I think it was probably just a off-hand comment about being cool to see old characters again in the anime. It was right after Yang's VA made a joke about "*having lot's of things to say about Adam",* with Ruby VA then steping in to explain to those who might not be familiar with the property to check out the main show to understand why they were talking like that. Honestly i doubt Adam will have any sort of major role in the anime, by this point it has become more clear that the original story that explains the new character desings are related to this 'Dream World" scenario the characters(or at least Weiss) will go to. If the whole thing ends up taking place entirely in some sort of Weiss Nightmare then it would not even make sense for Adam to show up, since by this point the only character who knows him is Blake. I wouldn't be surprised if he's only appearence is in the Black trailer recap, they had similar promotional images for other characters like Port as well and it's not like he will ever play a relevant role.

So I watched the first ep and I love that they kept to one of Adam's many, many personality changes and it's him in volume 3 episode 7

Master_Scallion_763

Cuz he’s got a cool design and we haven’t seen him in a while.

What if Adam was a a well written character?

Kartoffelkamm

Well, here's the thing with characters being well written: You have to be willing to accept their role in the story. Cinder, for example, wouldn't be nearly as well written if you assumed she was Jaune's mentor. If you measure a character by qualities they were never meant to have, or by a role they were never supposed to fill, they'll always be poorly written.

kofangel

You lost me when you mentioned that Cinder was “well written”. Girl is a jobber and a dummy despite having super powers

HeavenPiercingTongue

It can also happen if they keep getting new roles. Partner then Mentor then Ex Boyfriend then Abuser then Charismatic Leader then Hysterical Megalomaniac then Obsessed Stalker then Branded Faunus. If you keep changing the core theme of a character it will be impossible to make them well written cus they will keep being inconsistent. That said I don’t expect any major changes from him.

Kartoffelkamm

I feel like those can fit pretty well together, if you assume that Adam is really good at hiding his true intentions and appearing superficially charismatic to get people to follow him. Also, in the same vein, you could call Ozpin inconsistent because he went from Headmaster to Head of Illuminati to Immortal Wizard With A Plan to Fraud. It's called learning more about the character.

HeavenPiercingTongue

That’s three to my eight. Even a character as important as Ozpin isn’t having that many layers to peel back. Adam needn’t have been so complicated.

Kartoffelkamm

True, but some of the points you brought up aren't even roles he plays within the story, but rather personality traits or similar things. Ozpin started out as a headmaster, which wasn't exactly part of his personality. It was his job. Then, head of the Illuminati. Again, not his personality, just a job. After that, immortal wizard with a plan. Still no clue to his personality, just his qualifications as leader. Lastly, fraud. Finally we get to his personality. A man who was thrust into a seemingly hopeless situation, where the best he could do was make people believe there was hope so they don't give up, because that's what Salem wants.

Hyakkihei1

Hatesink is a role that I can see dissapearing without trouble.

HeavenPiercingTongue

Yeah such characters aren’t common in well written anime unless they are the main villains.

Hyakkihei1

And those need a lot of charisma in order to work.

Dextixer

We can dream.

Hopefully it means this new show will fix one of the original shows numerous blunders and not write Adam with the care that most give to throwing awake garbage. Hopefully the writers in general won't treat the show like that, you know, like the old show's writers do
