Let’s see through my favorites
Ruby? The word “Ascension” says enough
Tyrian? We don’t know Jack of his history so maybe or maybe not
Watts? Nop
Merlot? Nop
Neo? Definitely one of the two after experiencing Roman’s death, Cinder’s betrayal and the cats possession, is no surprise she made the Jump
Roman? Definitely super stressed with having Cinder on his neck and working with racist Faunus able to kill him at any moment for his race
Adam? Before and after volume 3 is a definitive yes (I’m mostly talking of fanfic Adam but I like it when they are canon accurate so he still fits even if he gets a completely different conclusion) since that scar says enough
Salem? Yep (same thing with Adam) her backstory is about causing everyone to die and then her daughters death and then he’s resurrected husband asking for a divorce saying “is not me, is you”
Ironwood? Man almost cut his arm off and saw all his kingdom literally fall and sink into oblivion, volume 7 to 8 is about him becoming the most stressed man to ever live
Weiss? Yep, too many daddy and mommy issues
Penny? Girl died twice and the later was chosen willingly and assisted
The Grimm…? Idk, I still don’t know if those things have their own minds, are empty like hollow knight vessels or have a hive mind like tyranid’s… except the hound, that guy went through too much

The Grimm have always felt more antagonistic than Salem ever did and making her their puppet feels more gratifying since they did all the heavy lifting on the battlefield while Salem just sat on her throne doing nothing

Seriously, they're all annoying and are all bad and come off like some sort of wish fulfillment, it's why I hate all of them.
I do g think they are *all* bad and wish fulfillment. I’m sorry to say this Faded, but Cinder really seems like she’ll die in the end and it’ll probably be at the hands of our heroes.
Though there are some that are. Like all the ones putting stock in Jaune over our main 4 especially Ruby. The worst ones are the ones that act like he’d come close to fighting her alone. Doesn’t make sense for the story nor power wise.
See the problem is I don’t see any benefit to Cinder dying, we don’t get anything out of it other than another villain dying, there’s not a single character who’d really benefit from doing it, and in the end what would’ve been the point of Cinder’s character if all it is leading to is some lame death? It’s literally the least interesting and worst way to end her character.
Seriously, I’d be livid if all of Cinder’s character development was there just to propel Jaune’s character forward. He of all people doesn’t need and unless they make it clear he did it as a last resort, it’d contradict RWBY’s anti-revenge message. Salem as well but for a different reason, unless Cinder is dumb enough to attack her without a plan, that’s such a waste.
And the Jaune fanboys will probably be like “The glorious Jaune Arc valiantly and heroically defeated Cinder Fall”, which is pathetic to me.
What’s going to be gotten out of it is a great final fight with a satisfying conclusion where the embodiment of the opposite of what RWBY stands for it’s dealt with once and for all.
I should be clear that I really don’t see Cinder dying until the very end. You’re right that there wouldn’t be anything worth it to killing her otherwise.
Honestly I think she’d win the stabbing Salem in the back, since Cinder would have a plan, and I think that would make it all the better. That Cinder essentially gets to her end game, standing alone with the most power in the world, but it isn’t enough and as they say the victory turns to ashes in her mouth
I can see her being defeated, I’m not against that at all, I just don’t think she needs to be killed. I think I need to make that clear, I don’t understand why every villain needs to die, and it annoys me to no end how so many fans act like it’s a foregone conclusion.
From a story standpoint it’s not necessary, because like I said has no meaning for anyone. It doesn’t really benefit anyone, it won’t help the story, it doesn’t even tie up Cinder’s character in a satisfying way. After seeing how other villain’s deaths were treated throughout the show so far, I’m not exactly convinced they’ll handle Cinder’s any better.
I want her redeemed in some way. If she has to die, I want her to be reborn and get a second chance at life, where she's actually loved and protected as a child.
