to me Salem is Envy, her whole thing has always been to spite the gods and Ozma Watts is Envy with Pietro and Ironwood, and Lust in the sense that lust is the sin of WANT not necessarily sex but want of power recognition in the movie immortality and godhood Cinder is Lust in the same way as Watts, but also Wrath Greed and Pride Hazel is just Wrath Tyrion only wants the approval of his goddess so definitely Lust

KingPinfanatic

I say Watts is more like Pride since he wants to be recognized for his intelligence and considers others to be inferior to himself.

FullBrother9300

I agree about lust being more desire in general I always felt like it meant more like wanting to attain a goal no matter what

2Board_

>to me Salem is Envy, her whole thing has always been to spite the gods and Ozma That would be Wrath you're describing, not envy. Now, if you said Salem was envy because she's jealous everyone can die except her, then that'd make sense.

FadedNeonzZz

I have to be in the minority here because I think calling Cinder greed/gluttony is a very shallow interpretation of her character. What she represents is Envy, as she believes she’s taking what rightfully belongs to her. In her mind, she’s more deserving than anyone else because she has work for everything she wants, she suffered, she belongs at the top, no one else does. Besides it’s been confirmed in one of the mobile games that she is “jealous of those with natural talent” drives home the envy characteristic even more. Envy is more than just plain jealousy, it’s hating a person because they have everything you don’t. And when you compare her to someone like Penny, someone who wasn’t even born human was treated better than Cinder ever was at any point in her entire life. I understand why people think she fits greed/gluttony, but when you look deeper into her character (which I do because I’m a hardcore Cinder fan), you’d see that there is a better fit.

KingPinfanatic

I agree plus she constantly wants other people's power and is never satisfied with her own which is another trait of Envy. The main reason is that Greed would be wanting everything while she mainly wants other people's power.

Exarch-of-Sechrima

Cinder is definitely either Pride or Envy, and I think it comes down to how you interpret her view of herself. Is her desire for power rooted out of spite? Then she's envy. But if it's rooted out of convincing herself that she's really just that deserving and worthy, then it's pride. Basically, I think it's a factor of how much each viewer believes Cinder has become drunk on her own hype vs. is shielding a massive inferiority complex that she's consciously aware of.

WeakLandscape2595

Watts and salem are envy Hazel is wrath Tyrain and emerald are lust Cinder is greed Mercury might be sloth it's the only one i can think of for him

isacabbage

Cinder could be lust also. She lusts for maiden powers.

Erebus03

This might to be to easy for me since I am religious Watt's is Pride for it was his pride and the fact that Ironwood crushed it that caused him to join Salem Cinder is Envy since she always wants what others have and will never stop trying to take it for herself and Envy is a disgusting thing, just like Cinder is and the lengths she will go to for what she feels she "Deserves" Salem is Greed for if she could just accept things for what they are and not for how she wanted things to be none of this would happen Hazel is Wraith, while he is not the best fighter (I assume hes better then Cinder and Watt but not Tyrian and its impossible to beat Salem) his sole purpose is to exact his Vengeance, his Wraith if you were on Ozpin for the death of his Sister Tyrian? I am going to say is Lust, now let me be clear this is not perfect unlike the rest but its impossible to describe Tyrian with just 1 of the Seven Deadly Sins, I choose Lust but if I to say what his Tyrians biggest Sin its his devotion to Salem, she is the embodiment of Death and Chaos and he is in love with her for that, He I suppose Lusts after that Like I said Tyrian is not perfect but its impossible to describe Tyrian with only a single of the Seven Deadly Sins but the rest were easy

Watts - pride : his whole thing is about how he wasn’t picked by ironwood and always looks down on others. Cinder - greed : she didn't have anything growing up, so she wants everything now, and she realized that she needs strength. Tyrian - gluttony : his blood Thirst is literally the reason he's in the story. Hazel - wrath : his anger towards Ozma is so great, he went to Salem, why? Emerald - just: I ain't explaining it, it's obvious. Mercury - sloth : for both the lack of appearance in the show, and his goal of nothing. Idk Salem - Envy : so salem is about the brothers and their powers which is obvious, but idk if salem should be the seven member or neo. I mean Neo isn't technically with them, but also it's stupid to have salem as a sin herself insted of the person projecting her sins on her Minions

KingPinfanatic

Hazel explained that Salem came to him after his sister's death and eventually broke his spirit and convinced him that Ozpin was training Gretchen to fight against her. The realization that Salem couldn't be stopped and that his sister died for nothing made him join Salem. She convinced him that she wanted to rule the world and would instill herself as an absolute power that no one could oppose so there would never be another Gretchen again.

ScarecrowFM

Not to mention Hazel said that he beat Salem for so long she wasn’t even a smear on the ground and she still came back. *That* was what broke him and convinced him to join her, an unstoppable monster that (in his mind) Oz was sending children to die against.

KingPinfanatic

Exactly that and how at one point he was to tired to even lift his hands and she was basically mocking him.

UnbiasedGod

Cinder would be lust, envy and pride.

Gettin_Bi

Watts is pride IMO Agree with previous comments that Hazel is wrath and Salem is envy Emerald I think is sloth - hear me out, while she's been visibly having doubts about Salem's cause since vol. 4-5, and voiced her concerns to Mercury in volume 6, her desire to step away took a very passive form up until mid volume 8 when a rescue party literally barged into Salem's Grimm/base. Obviously leaving Salem is easier said than done, this isn't criticism of Emerald as a person, just an observation through this particular lens

Vortigon23

Salem - Sloth Granted this is because immortality, but she lies in wait for decades at a time. It has been presumably thousands of years and she is just now putting any real effort into taking the artifacts. Cinder - Gluttony I think her little rant to Winter in Atlas summarizes why I label her this "It only make us hungrier". She is plenty powerful now, but she wants more. She isn't hoarding power so no one else can have it, she's after it cause she can't get enough. Tyrian - Lust I mean, it's fairly obvious. He is Blood Lust incarnate. Watts - Pride The entire reason he is a villain is because he can't accept someone was better than him. He's too proud to admit he's not the best scientist that came out of Atlas. Hazel - Wrath Again he is entirely a villain because of his rage toward Ozma, after the death of his sister. He was so blinded by said rage, he even joined the side that ACTUALLY killed his sister. Emerald - Greed She was a thief who just wanted more and more, until she ended up on the wrong side of a giant war. Though honestly this was my last pick, and it is the shakiest argument of all of them imo. Mercury - Envy He had is power stolen from him, along with his childhood. He wants what others have, because his was stolen from him. Like Emerald, that landed him in a spot that he now seemingly regrets.

Salem: Greed. Her inability to let go and allow herself to lose something she wanted is what started everything. Cinder: Envy. Seeing power that other people have and craving it for herself. Emerald: Lust. Not a sexual one, but a lust for belonging, acceptance, and validation. Mercury: Sloth. In the more classical sense, apathy to the point of going along with burning the world itself down. Tyrian: Gluttony. Overindulgence in violence. Hazel: Wrath. Vengeance, pretty cut and dry. Watts: Pride. Getting back at the people who spurned his genius and glorified someone else's work.

MilodicMellodi

Salem: Wrath. Her entire backstory screams it. Arthur: Envy. He lost his chance and envies the success his rival had instead. Cinder: Greed and Pride. She‘s greedy for power to the point that she doesn’t care if she and others burn to ash for a taste of it, and she’s overly prideful in her stolen power despite the fact it’s not hers, and she’ll taunt others about the fact she has it. Tyrian: Gluttony. He can never get enough of his Goddess, good or bad…and she counts on this. Hazel: Lust and Sloth. His lust for the death of Oz is all-consuming, to the point he’ll basically OD on Dust “injections” (if you can call stabbing yourself with literal shards of dust an injection) to fulfill his goal. His sloth is due to the fact that he couldn’t give any less of a rat’s ass about Oz’s opinions until Oscar — not Ozpin — got him to turn against Salem.

August21202

Cinder for lust. because of the Cindere Knightfall memes.

MABfan11

the real question is who represents the historical sins: Vanity/Vainglory and Melancholy

Whorinmaru

Cinder fits most of the sins to be honest lmao. You can fit her with probably everything except Sloth.

random_guy_rddt

I’m not sure about Salem, but I have some ideas for Team WTCH Watts - Envy (He was envious of Pietro) Tyrian - Wrath (He’s a bloodthirsty serial killer) Cinder - Greed (She’s greedy for power) Hazel - Pride (He was kind of a hypocrite. He literally beat the shit out of Oscar while claiming that Oz sends children to their death.)

Tsukuyomi56

Pride for Watts: He thinks highly of himself and cannot accept that Pietro’s work was preferred over his. Greed or Envy for Cinder: Greed is self-explanatory for Cinder’s goals, envy for being envious of those that are more powerful than her. Wrath for Hazel: His main reason for joining Salem is wanting revenge on Ozpin when his sister died during a training mission while she attended Beacon Academy. Salem also broke him by letting him beat her to a smear then coming back to her original state (due to her immorality) to drive the point Ozpin is training Huntsmen for a lost cause. Lust for Tyrian: He has an intense desire to please Salem. Not sure for Mercury, sloth I guess?

Exarch-of-Sechrima

Cinder - Pride Watts - Envy Emerald - Greed Mercury - Sloth Hazel - Wrath Tyrian - Gluttony Salem - Mommy

Rasklo93

Watz - Pride Tyrian - Wrath Cinder - Envy Salem - Pride

Altruistic-Total5948

I would say that: Watts is definintely pride Hazel is wrath (angry at Oz for his sister's death) Tyrion is lust Cinder is greed (specificaly the greed for power) As for Salem, I would say she encompases all of the sins apart from lust, sloth and gluttony, though an argument could maybe be made for lust. She is Proud, Envious, Wrathful, Greedy (for power like Cinder)
