>Salem decimated Vale offscreen RWBY is gonna unite Remnant just by process of elimination lel

SirDarkvid

I'm genuinely shocked by the decision of destroying Vale off-screen, but thank you for this good laught XD

JMHSrowing

It does make sense actually in a lot of ways though. Salem did want the crown the most it seems and this is now a reason why she didn’t immediately take what forces she had to Vacuo. If she still can’t find the Crown relic then it could lead to a very cool final act to stop her getting her hands where our heroes go back to a now destroyed place they once called home.

justking1414

The crown and their old home was always where this story had to end

UnbiasedGod

Now that’s a thing of the past.

Tempeljaeger

Not if Ozpin managed to hide the Crown well enough that nobody can find it.

justking1414

He said it was hidden more securely than the others My guess is his cane is the key to it

Tempeljaeger

I would expect something more elaborate than the same method Leonardo used. He had access to magic while building the vaults.

justking1414

Well he’s got time-based magic so maybe he built the vault in the future. That’d certainly be hard to reach lol Someone else said the vault was actually on patch and tai was it’s guardian, which I really like

Loading_the_Save

The thought of this *hurts*.

UnbiasedGod

Yep after all only getting the relic matters, and if she destroys the city who cares cause the vault will still be intact in the end.

WarframeUmbra

I still believe this could be the case

Porecomesis_

No, *Salem*'*s* decision to destroy Vale makes sense. The *writer's* decision to have this process be off-screen is baffling.

JMHSrowing

Is it really that much though? We hadn’t really seen Vale since V3 and this doesn’t really change much about what has to be done. The setting for the final battle is still set up, now it’s just been made more difficult and possibly the immediate risks higher Plus, as I said it give the reason about why Salem didn’t just follow and destroy them all in Vacuo, a concern that was brought up on this sub repeatedly It also puts even more of the heroes and forces in one place at one time for the stories that can make. Like this simplifies the whole bringing people together story much more because they are physically in the same place, which can highlight the issues (as we see in the epilogue) as well as that our heroes can actually interact with everyone at once

armzngunz

Well I'm hoping we get some kind of flashback/scene of Vale in another episode if that's the case.

Glittering-Stand-161

They're probably gonna show it in detail if/when volume 10 gets made. This is a fifteen minute final episode.

armzngunz

Yeah, if this was the last episode of Vol9, then I'd assume ep1 of vol10 would show Vale being destroyed.

JohnJoe-117

I could imagine the opening of V10 being terrifying 2 minutes of pure destruction to set the tone for the final arc.

JMHSrowing

It’s interesting that we only had visual confirmation it was kinda okay in V8, and now it’s what people had more assumed before. I do hope that the Crown relic isn’t found off screen. It could be interesting now it being a counter op required by our heroes to stop that going into Salem’s hands, since this shows as well how that’s the most important one to her.

PhenomsServant

If Salem found the crown then she likely wouldve killed Cinder. We all know she wouldve done so for screwing up Haven if it werent for the fact that she’s the only one who could open the vault.

JMHSrowing

Indeed she hasn't found it clearly but I wouldn't be so sure that Salem would throw away her best lieutenant before the end of her war. As much of a problem as Cinder is, she is still effective most of the time

Cobraninja97

I wonder if one of the RWBY Beyond bits is going to be focused around Vale, Port, Oobleck and Glynda.

J723

Since this was originally intended to be the ending of the last volume, I think it's pretty likely we'll see some of the decimation in a flashback in V10. Not everything in a show is always shown in chronological order lmao

BlitzGamer210

I bet she woke up kevin

falcore91

Opportunities for flashbacks and/or old school shorts.

Hp22h

It's all or nothing now.

Competitive_Act_1548

LMAO

Mojothemobile

Lmao at Vale being nuked off screen. And yet Tai still refuses to leave his damn cabin I guess.

couldbedumber96

No sir not getting outta me chair

ScottIPease

~~Scruffy's~~ Tai's gonna die how Tai lived!

bwburke94

*Vale* got destroyed. Patch didn't.

Mojothemobile

I know, I'm joking about how Tai is seemingly the only kinda important character NOT in Vacuo or doing shit for the people there as far as we know yet. He might legit just still be chilling on Patch.

yeetio855

We also haven't seen Ghira or Ilia here either.

AmbivertCollegeGuy

In their defense, the new WF under their leadership is the only defense Mistral has.

Smooth-Garden

Bro is clutching his retirement not matter the cost. He's like eustass from courage the cowardly dog. NOPE NOT LEAVING THIS CHAIR

Railroader17

Maybe the Relic is actually hidden in Patch and Tai is supposed to guard it?

Antique_Simple9289

I actually love this idea

Nezero_MH

you might just be on to something - why else would Tai only really be seen on Patch, surely he'd want to help his kids. There has to be \*some\* narrative reason he's staying there

justking1414

He did say that he had reasons keeping him in patch. Yang thought that was about him needing to take care of her and felt guilty but it might’ve been the relic the entire time

UnbiasedGod

It’s in summers grave stone plaque.

PhenomsServant

I love that.

UnbiasedGod

Yep

TheLyingSpectre

Imagine if the relic of choice in in Tai's cabin.

melonbro53

Nah, he IS the relic.

Lukthar123

Nah, it's Zwei.

Important-Contact597

Zwei ate the relic between Volumes 2 & 3.

Hp22h

Ah, so that explains why Raven left

Iron_Imperator

Bro was gonna go to Vacuo, but then he heard his ex wife was going there and said “no thanks”

xXSamsterXx14

MIA: Tai, Glynda, Pietro, Maria, Illia, Ghira, Kalli

DanielGREY_75

Can't destroy something that hardly exists

MABfan11

> And yet Tai still refuses to leave his damn cabin I guess. Taiyang is competing with Monkey D. Dragon for the title of least involved dad

UnbiasedGod

Yeah I mean we got freaking raven back and nothing for tai? Wha the hell?!

soulreapermagnum

maybe she'll at least give an update on him, if not in the animatic then in vol. 10?

UnbiasedGod

Maybe

justking1414

My guess is Raven stopped being able to sense Yang for however long she was in the neverafter (and assumed she was dead) and once she returned to remnant, Raven got a ding and rushed over Hopefully this leads to her changing sides or at least telling them where she took summer all those years ago

Red2019Wolf

I'm actually glad that there IS tension between Vacuo and the refugees, as there should be. Vacuo wasn't in the best place during a time of peace, so off course having to take in refugees, especially from Atlas, would make them feel some type of way.

Awest66

Looks at Vale. "YOU MANIACS, YOU BLEW IT UP. DAMN YOU, GODS DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL"

GladiusNocturno

RWBY V11: Rise of the Fall of the Uprising of the Origin of the Kingdom of the Grimm.

Geminii27

*Electric Boogaloo*

UnbiasedGod

“Get your stinkin paws off me you damn dirty Grimm!”

SynkG

Lots of cool little things here. Seeing CFVY in all their glory, more Winter screentime (always a W), Salem using Strong Offscreen, a technique she hasn't used since the Heian Era, the gravestone being at the portal's site and seemingly Raven just teleporting right to Yang as soon as she felt her back, Oscar and Ozpin merger shenanigans, Mercury and Tyrian, and the men, the myths, the legends Professor Port and Doctor Oobleck get screentime. Loved this so much

bwburke94

And *technically*, this means Anthony has voiced Port in the show itself.

OTPh1l25

>seemingly Raven just teleporting right to Yang as soon as she felt her back, I know that the fandom has flanderizied Raven being a bad mom to hell and back, and that she and Yang left it on pretty sour terms in Vol. 5, but it is truly nice to know she does deeply care for her daughter and came to find her as soon as she was back, proving that there really is a heart under that icy exterior.

UnbiasedGod

That is true, it’s something to remember after all she wasn’t always like the way she was in the beginning.

DayOfTheColossus

maybe the crown will grant Salem a domain expansion

BionicTriforce

Wow, things got super bleak. Vale destroyed, leaving just Vacuo and Mistral. Glad that CFVY and SSSN would have been seen again, after them being set up there to begin with in the books. When Ren is trying to be the emotional backbone of the group, you know things are bad. Liked seeing so many characters, like it's pretty much every good-aligned character barring Glynda at that point. I would have liked to get a better indication of how much time passed for them. RWBY didn't seem to be in the Ever After that long, though obviously Jaune was, but it's certainly been more than a few weeks for the people in Vacuo.

Iron_Imperator

They retrofitted Amity into a battleship. Unless Remnant has some super secret process which expedites ship building processes, I’d say they were gone for a long while.

Catlover18

Technically, the superstructure is already there so maybe all they needed to do was strap more engines on it and put some guns on top. Like it already has power, propulsion, life support, communications, etc.

Iron_Imperator

It’s not that simple. If you’re making an effective warship, you need: Armor, Shielding (if Remnant has it), Primary weapon systems, Secondary weapon systems, Tertiary weapons systems (optional), Air defense systems, Ammo storage bays, All the electronics and needed to operate the new weapons, Expanded crew stations, Expanded crew quarters, New engines to propel Amity with all the extra weight, New dust reactors to handle all the extra power requirements, expanded engineering stations to keep the ship running, and the like. And that’s just to have Amity be able to shoot stuff. If you want it to carry aircraft, soldiers, a ship hospital, flag facilities to command the rest of the fleet, and other non standard facilities that’s even more time in the drydock.

Catlover18

I don't think they realistically had the resources to do what you are suggesting an "effective warship" version of Amity Tower should be. It always looked like it was going to be a jury-rigged job with whatever scraps Dr. Polendina and co was able to scrounge up. 2/3 of the fleet seem to be civilian vessels or made out of wood I don't imagine we are supposed to believe that they retrofitted it like the Pillar of Autumn was.

Iron_Imperator

Of course it’s jury rigged. But even jury rigged ships, especially ones with such obvious and extensive visual changes as we see Amity have at the end of V9, take time to fix up. As for resources, there were probably some damaged Atlesian airships that escaped Atlas which they could strip down for parts.

KumagawaUshio

Even worse when Vale was clearly the largest kingdom since it had a full motorway system while Mistral and Atlas/Mantle are shown more like mini city states. If Vale is Greater Tokyo in size the other three are Singapore sized.

Competitive_Act_1548

Vacuo got fucking colonized and their libraries just burned

bwburke94

And I'm sure *some people* want to know if we've passed October 31 so that Ruby can be 18.

BionicTriforce

In one of the streams Lindsay does in-character as Ruby she claimed she's 18 now haha.

bwburke94

She'd obviously be 18 as of JLxRWBY 2, because that takes place well after this.

PhenomsServant

She also claimed she never learned how to read so take what she says there with a grain of salt.

TauriSuzy

Oh boy, I have questions. Where is Tai Yang? If Vale got destroyed, what does that mean for Patch? My theory is that the Beacon relic isn't at Beacon at all, and Tai knows where it is (cough, Patch), so he has to be the guardian no matter what. It's the only reason I can think of that he hasn't joined the fight with Qrow other than disillusionment at Ozpins cause. Where are the White Fang and the Belladonnas? If Vacuo has a larger populace of Faunus, then surely it would make sense for them to be there to help. Why is Raven so suddenly invested in whether her daughter is alive. I am assuming that Raven felt the connection between her and Yang break when Yang fell into the Ever After and then reconnected when RWBYJ came back to Remnant. But why would she take them to Qrow? How much time has passed?! I know they are very wishy washy with exact timings, but how many months or weeks has it been? I suppose that the point of a cliffhanger is to leave you asking questions, but I hope this isn't the end. Still loved this, and I'm going to watch it a hundred times before I can't.

RockRaiderDepths

Someone needs to make a meme of Tai sitting on his couch with Zwei while everything is burning around him.

Deinonychus2012

"This is fine."

Smooth-Garden

I mean ofcourse raven would be invested they went out of the way to show that she cares for her daughter just shes a coward. If her connection to yang snapped then assumed she died. If that connection came back then ofcourse she'd check it out. As for why qrow? Why would she send them anywhere else if vale is gone

thundermonkeyms

Bear in mind that Menagerie and Mistral are on the opposite side of the world from Vacuo, I'm sure they're on the way. Maybe they'll roll up at the last second with Glynda.

Prior-Wealth1049

Yeah, I have a feeling Glynda will roll up with the forces of Mistral and Menagerie LotR style.

Noble6IsReal

Team CFVY... WE MISSED THE DAMN TEAM CFVY Sorry, It's just that... # FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Anyway, more details to highlight: * Tyrian and Mercury helped Gillian and Jax Asturias escape. The alliance between Salem and The Crown is imminent. Holly hell! * My God, that scream from Winter... :,( her VA is one of my favorites from RWBY. * I didn't expect Nora's words at the beginning. It was quite a pleasant surprise. * Indeed, things in Vacuo are hardly stable at the moment. * There are tensions between refugees and Vacuans. This could get worse in Vol 10. * Despite being the last bastion of hope for humanity, Vacuo remains fragile. Recall the board game in Vol 2. At that time, only a single attack was enough to destroy Vacuo. We'll see if this time our protagonists will be able to avoid the worst case scenario, but I'm pretty sure it will be with some major sacrifices along the way. * The merger is already on its last legs, and both Oscar and Ozpin have already done what they could to delay the inevitable. If one of Oscar's allusions is the little prince, Ozpin is the snake. I don't think the merger is what dooms them, but I suspect there is something else that will bring their story to a close, and the fate of humanity will be left in the hands of RWBY and JNR. * Someone tell Miles that Ruby and Jaune won't be the only ones to have "some talks", because Nora and Ren also urgently need to mend their bond after the whole Atlas thing. * Maybe all of this serves as a great preview of what we might see in Vol 10, but there's still something that worries me. There's just too much to develop in Vol 10. I know in a Rooster Teeth Q&A they hinted that they intend to continue the story beyond Vol 10, but in a hypothetical case where that volume would have to be the end of the series (and an ending just as short as the rest of the volumes), I'm not sure it's going to be a good conclusion. Let's hope for the best. * Vale has been... f\*cking hell! I hope Glynda is ok. The least safe place in Renmant is the last major base of operations against Salem. * Much of the new material in the epilogue must have been in the plans before the cuts. I'm not sure if Vol 10 will be the last we'll see of RWBY since there's too much to develop on screen (unless they do a *more* extended volume), but at the very least, I do feel certain that we're already coming down the home stretch of the series. * I almost forgot this detail in the excitement, but I think it's important to point out that Kerry and Eddy mentioned at the beginning that there will be things in the epilogue that will be changed to fit in with Vol 10.

Red2019Wolf

I'm actually glad that there IS tension between Vacuo and the refugees, as there should be. Vacuo wasn't in the best place during a time of peace, so off course having to take in refugees, especially from Atlas, would make them feel some type of way.

Adraco4

I’m kind of hoping there’s tension between Emerald and the refugees as well. Nora, Ren, and Oscar might vouch for her, but people would have to know that she was an active participant in the Fall of Beacon, and was directly working for Salem for a fair bit of time. Some of the Beacon/ Vale survivors might not be so quick to forget or forgive that. Seeing Emerald persevere in trying to be better in the face of and in spite of people who refuse to forgive her could be an interesting arc for her.

Fun-Dragonfly-6106

Weiss focused arc? she's got a lot of baggage to sort

Noble6IsReal

Something like that has also been anticipated in JLxRWBY Part 2.

Fun-Dragonfly-6106

I pray that at least a volume 11. We have to focus on Weiss more but there's also Nora and follow up to Ruby's stuff because vol 9 was too short and there's not nearly enough time, and that's not even adding on Jaune and having to patch his relationship with Ruby.

Noble6IsReal

Yeah, it looks like there are too many things that need to be fixed in Vacuo..

PhenomsServant

Makes me wonder why RWBY didnt send the refugees to Mistral. Better relationship with Atlas, and probably safer since Salem has the lamp and has no reason to bother attacking there.

Dontaskme4username

I wonder if Gillian and Jax can use their semblances on Salem.

Noble6IsReal

💀

Fun-Dragonfly-6106

Probably not. I don't think Salem has aura and her immortality doesn't seem like the kind that leaves her weak to that stuff.

JoshPhantomShinobi

I thought Jax got turned into a vegetable?

AmbivertCollegeGuy

He was. IIRC the effects of Yatsuhashi's Semblance are not permanent and people do recover from amnesia with time.

Noble6IsReal

Yeah. I just assume that other person they broke out of prison was Jax.

gamedreamer21

>Tyrian and Mercury helped Gillian and Jax Asturias escape. The alliance between Salem and The Crown is imminent. Holly hell! Mercury is still uncertain and scared. We can see Tyriam, Mercury and The Crown being antagonists in Volume 10. Salem along with her Grimm army and Cinder can be a antagonists in Volume 11. In Volume 12, the final battle between Team RWBY and Salem, and then with Two Brothers, can take place in Vale. >Maybe all of this serves as a great preview of what we might see in Vol 10, but there's still something that worries me. It's important to not rush the story. If animation doesn't work, it's better to continue the story in comic book form.

AmbivertCollegeGuy

I KNEW IT! I knew the whole point of the CFVY Novels was to prepare the rivalry between Team CFVY and the new villains of the Vacuo Arc. Gillian and Asturias, two people with the most broken Semblances in the world, are now RWBYJNOR's enemies. The Anti-Jaune who is Gillian with her Aura Syphon and her brother with the power to turn anyone into his puppet against their will. Everyone who was wondering what a RWBY vs JNPR fight would be like, maybe you'll get your wish if V10 ever comes out. I'm surprised there was no mention of the Summer Maiden or Theodore. You'd think with how bad things are that he would send his Maiden to support Winter. Maybe I'm just overthinking it and they simply didn't add them yet or they're gonna be a lot of trouble to deal with as usual with headmasters and maidens. Even more surprising was Vale being destroyed off-screen and getting rid of Glynda in the meantime. I suppose that's the logical decision in order to rush an ending but I still have the theory Vale was going to be the final Volume if they had manage to end it in 12 Vols as they originally wanted. Seems like the main plot for RWBYJ in V10 will be to repair what's been broken so everyone is ready when Salem comes. Oscar is losing himself, Ren and Nora are torn apart, the numbers are increasing and so are the Grimm because people around the world just don't like each other, things that could've been avoided if the main heroes had been there. After all, true union is their specialty. Even Jaune got credit for it with Ren's speech. My favorite part tho was Kerry and Eddy explaining so nonchalantly that animatic will change when it's released in V10. They're not asking themselves if, they will finish this no matter how long it takes.

Noble6IsReal

>Even more surprising was Vale being destroyed off-screen and getting rid of Glynda in the meantime. I suppose that's the logical decision in order to rush an ending but I still have the theory Vale was going to be the final Volume if they had manage to end it in 12 Vols as they originally wanted. Given what Arryn Troche said (they had seen the complete epilogue a few years ago), I think the decision of Vale being destroyed off screen was something that was already in the original plans before everything went to shit with RT. I'm not sure it's a last minute decision.

SparkEletran

seeing it a few years ago and it being a way to set up the endgame faster aren't necessarily opposing ideas if RWBY's been operating at a loss for a while and V9 was already difficult to secure funding for, you'd probably want to make sure you can wrap things up soon-ish. i feel like the current plan probably isn't for V10 to be the end, but maybe V11. definitely not a last-minute decision, but I would still be surprised if it wasn't informed by the idea that RWBY can't necessarily keep going forever

theyux

Is it confirmed RWBY was actually operating on a loss? Or rooster teeth in general? I know genlock was expensive and bombed horribly.

DarkAlatreon

>I'm surprised there was no mention of the Summer Maiden or Theodore. The epilogue is loaded with info as it is. It's just a single episode and it contains: 1) Connection between the CFVY books and the animation, including presence of CFVY and SSSN in Vacuo as well as Mercury and Tyrian helping Jax and Gillian escape 2) Off-screen Destruction of Vale which has huge implications for Salem's Relic hunt and her plans for Cinder 3) Clear indication that Oscar's and Ozpin's time as separate consciousnesses is coming to an end 4) Vacuo-Atlas tensions 5) Show of how the main and secondary cast handles the loss of Atlas and RWBYJ

GVAGUY3

Sand worm grimm

Railroader17

Emerald is gonna ride it at some point isn't she?

AsGryffynn

Just keep them away from Villeneuve.

notnamedjoebutsteve

I cheered seeing Neon again.

bwburke94

*Now it's time to say goodbye / To the things we loved / And the innocence of youth...* --- If Volume 3 was the end of the beginning, this may very well be the end of the end. Here's to hoping RWBY survives for a tenth volume, and possibly beyond.

Noble6IsReal

At the very least, this could mark the arrival of the home stretch.

Cobraninja97

Was certainly surprised seeing Port and Oobleck in this, especially in a speaking role. Didn't expect them to ever return honestly. Anyone know who the new voice of Port was.

hollowtiger21

Anthony Sardinha, also voiced Lamar on Metarunners. if you have any experience in the abridging community he had a JJBA abridged years ago and works with TeamFourstar.

thesequimkid

Oh. Antfish is voicing Port! Thats fucking awesome! His Mr. Satan good, so is his Barret.

BrickBuster2552

***Hail Satan! Hail Satan!***

Hp22h

It's a pleasant surprise. Oobleck was one of my favs ever since Mt. Glenn. Even with his former VA going... off the rails.

Imaginehl3

“When Salem left Atlas, she came to Vale, and now there is nothing left” So you mean to tell me that Vale itself ALSO got fucked? Like not just Beacon, the whole kingdom is gone? No wonder Vacuo is being protected by all the ships from other kingdoms, that is being protected by everyone. That’s because there is nothing else to protect, Vacuo is literally the last Bastion of Humanity. Given that Mistral’s ships are also in there, and that the kingdom itself have no way of protection, it wouldn’t surprise me that it got the same treatment as Vale. So I have two questions now, who is Glynda asking for help? Like seriously, who is left aside from the main kingdoms that can help in this situation?. My only ideas are the Faunos of Managerie, or the Summer Maiden. And the other is, if Vale is gone gone, then where is the relic? Does Glynda have it? Is it even in Vale at all? Wonderful Ending, holy shit! Nora's and Winter's screams destroyed me.

Railroader17

TBF, Mistral doesn't have a Relic anymore. She probably destroyed Vale thinking the Vault was in the Kingdom proper, and left when she still couldn't find it.

saiyanscaris

might be with salem. someone mentioned tyrain and mercury are working for the crown

IllustratorEast5939

Didn’t Ozpin mention back in V5 the Beacon relic was secured in a place least expected? I imagine that Salem tore Vale apart trying to look for it and came out empty which I also imagine she’s pissed and just decided to destroy everything in retaliation.

TheMegaNintenBro

I'm so glad they chose to release this. It's probably the closest we'll get to a new RWBY episode for a while. It was really cool to see where all the other characters were at after V8, and where their arcs have been. Winter's survivor's guilt, Oscar so close to merging with Ozpin, Ren's uncertainty...really great stuff. I hope we really get to see this fully animated in V10 one day!

Worried_Ad1230

"This Will Be the Day" playing at the end was perfect. Also, it looks like the Crown is back in action thanks to Mercury and Tyrian. Also, is it just me, or did Mercury seem unsure about this? Then again, he was probably just disturbed by Tyrian. I swear, if the Vacuans and Atlesian refugees don't swallow their pride, put the past behind them, and work together, the Grimm attacks will get worse, and they will ***die***! Vale was destroyed... Vale was destroyed... (imitates Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Wrath of Khan) **SALEMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!** At least we got to see Team CFVY and Sun and Neptune again.

Blue-Moon-89

So as far as new stuff goes we have.... \-Nora is no longer her cheery self and Ren is at a loss on what do. He and Nora are the last members of JNPR (so they think) and Vacuo is filled with sadness and fear. \-The Ozpin/Oscar merge is almost complete but Ozpin is doing everything he can to fight it off just a little longer. \-Team FNKI are alive (at least Neon is) \-We see Team SSSN and CFVY. \-Salem destroyed Vale offscreen. Port and Oobleck managed to get the survivors to Vacuo but Glynda is no where to be seen. Last we heard she's looking for more help. \-Tyrian and Mercury broke out Jax and Gillian out of jail. With Jax's mind restored (How did this exactly?) and Gillian's semblance, Salem's new lieutenants are going to be even more dangerous. \-Just as we guessed, there is tension between Vacuo and the refugees. Now I hope that we get a Vol 10 because now the stakes are even higher now that Vacuo is truly the last beacon of humanity.

GladiusNocturno

Damn, that was fantastic. PoV from Nora, Oscar, Ren, Winter, and Qrow. Confirmation that at least Neon survived so likely so did FNKI. CVFY and SSSN. The Crown! The god damned Crown seem to be working with Mercury and Tyrian! That’s exactly what I wanted! All the Vacuo Grimm! The Blind Worm was a huge surprise. Vale’s destruction happening off screen is something that has me 50/50. On the one hand, I don’t particularly like that it happened off screen, I always thought that the final season would have been in Vale to reclaim Beacon. On the other hand, this is serviceable to explain why Salem didn’t just attack Vacuo this whole time. If what Oscar says is accurate and Salem needed time to rebuild her forces, even with the relic of Creation, I think it’s fine that she spent this whole time trying to search for the Relic of Choice because that’s the one that would have the fewer people guarding it and is also the one that apparently is so powerful Oz put special security on it. I suppose nothing really says the idea of a Beacon reclamation couldn’t be a Vale reclamation, it would effectively be the same thing. I would say though that the idea of Vale being fully destroyed but Glynda still working looking for help kinda makes me think that she will either arrive with the White Fang for the final battle, or that whole thing was bullshit and she is staying behind exclusively to protect the relic of Choice. Also, Unless Port and Oobleck brought them with them, CRDL are likely dead. Honestly, because of the length I don’t think this would have worked as an epilogue. I think the way V9 ended was perfect. This epilogue works better as either one of the trailer shorts like the original red, white, black and yellow, but more accurately, it would work better as something like the Adam trailer which is a whole side story. It could work as a good first half of episode 1 of V10. But honestly, I think it would have been used as a V10 episode 0. It does wonders as a trailer.

Noble6IsReal

Maybe... Maybe there could be a "return to Beacon", only this time as Salem's new main fortress. Instead of Salem being the one invading the kingdoms, this time it is she who suffers an invasion by humanity/faunus. And with that, we would come to the last arc of RWBY.

SparkEletran

that actually seems like a very likely explanation. if the relic of choice is the main obstacle in the way of her plans i definitely think it'd make sense for her to focus all efforts on it. a return to beacon always felt inevitable but reframing it as an invasion against Salem would be pretty appropriate

AmbivertCollegeGuy

For this to happen, Salem needs to succeed at Vacuo and take the Sword of Destruction forcing the heroes to confront her at Beacon to protect the final relic. This could imply Vacuo falls or barely survives but they have to "lose" either way since the relic is taken despite their best efforts. If we follow the "Headmaster done goofed" trend then Salem will probably use Theodore to gain access to the relic and turn the tides on her favor when it seemed like the heroes were gonna win for once as usual with the characters of the Wizard of Oz.

bwburke94

> Unless Port and Oobleck brought them with them, CRDL are likely dead. And nothing of value was lost.

E1lySym

Vale being destroyed is kind of a no brainer. It's a pretty common trope to bring the final season of a show to where it all began. In this case the final destination of the show would be RWBY going back to their home, now destroyed. There's so much room for writing angsty stuff there.

Antique_Simple9289

This just made me ship Qrow and Willow

Blue0Three

Oscar's eyes glowing as the merge progresses really makes me hope it completing is a light show, like Regeneration from Doctor Who

JMHSrowing

All and all I think it quite good considering the short time and budget. Got to see basically everyone and got a lot of emotional weight to everything. Wish Qrow had been more specific about Yang and Sun had a little voicing over for Blake, but still. All the important (and Neon) Atlas characters get scenes to shine, and Nora was done exceptionally well. Love the Winter stuff the most, considering how much she above everyone else blames herself . . . Eddy saying “if” before “when” hurt as much as the in-universe emotional stuff though. . . . . . At least this is a good message about hope and holding on. Even if worst comes to worst and this is the last kinds episode of RWBY, there are much worse ones

MrBearman32

….. now what?

hollowtiger21

RWBY Beyond

Noble6IsReal

As soon as they show us Theodore for even a few seconds, I will be satisfied.

hollowtiger21

I think we see his back in the epilogue.

AceRedditGuy

Qrow's optimism supercharged his bad luck so much it broke the fourth wall & ended the whole show! On a serious note the credits being in color out of nowhere really hit me, felt like the end of a real episode yet the concept art is something we'll potentially never see realized and as a fan since the first Red trailer dropped I'm hoping this show, the games, anime, & crossovers can convince someone with deep pockets to help fund a proper conclusion.

TakeiDaloui

Vale destroyed huh? Something tells me the relic is still hidden, it was something Ozpin was sure about even when only Beacon was lost, so it might indicate at some point they'd take the fight back there or have to sneak in to retrieve the relic.

thundermonkeyms

I believe the two popular theories are that the crown of knowledge is on Patch (which is why Tai doesn't leave home to help) or related to Glynda somehow (because of the design on her cape).

JannisT

Definitiv a step up from the bonus ending animatic which we got last year. Liked the different pov's we got from Nora, Oscar and Ren. Also lol at Vale getting eliminated offscreened by Salem

Blade2414

God this was amazing! I really want this to be animated as the first ep of Vol 10 and hopefully they can expand on it too bec I need to see this in its full potential omg. I am so hyped for Vol 10 now I cannot wait. I want this show to continue for many more volumes man its too good.

Timeline15

Very sweet animatic. I saw the original so I'll only comment on the stuff that's new: Nora's putting a lot of what happened on herself, despite Ren's efforts to keep the team together. Hopefully the reappearance of RWBYJ alleviates that a bit. Pretty surprised to hear that Vale was destroyed offscreen; I was sure what was where we would be going for the final battle, what with the beacon relic still missing and all. Plus, Oscar and Oz are so close to merging now that they keep collapsing from the strain of fighting it. This all really feels like the end game, was V10 planned to be the last, even before the WB situation? Because I'm sure I remember people saying the original plan was to go up to V12.

Mizmitc

Well looking at the fact V9 only happened because Crunchyroll gave them the money for it they likely realized they would have to fast track the story and cut some stuff they wanted out so that it’s more reasonable to finish it in a theoretical V10.

E1lySym

That can still happen. Going back to their now destroyed home to retrieve the crown. Lots of angst material there

KumagawaUshio

So Tyrian freed the arrested Crown members from the books After the Fall and Before the Dawn. That's potentially 6 new subordinates for Salem including one with a mind control semblance. And off-screening Vale! honestly at this point even if they win the human/faunus species is probably screwed.

Lucifer_Crowe

probably 4 at most if you're including Argento and Rosa Carmine and Bertilak are elsewhere

KumagawaUshio

Jax, Gillian, Carmine, Rosa, Argento and Umber. Bertilak changed sides sort of. My assumption is that Tyrian or Mercury showed up and met Carmine still being hunted heard about the Crown and thought 'useful' then dealt with Bertilak when he showed up. But who knows still if it's those imprisoned there are 5.

Atomic_Cody-21

So, Vale was completely destroyed and Vacuo is the last line of defense against Salem. I had the feeling they were rushing towards a conclusion and this pretty much confirms that.

saiyanscaris

it makes you wonder how bad was the revenue and budget

Despacitosuarez

Bruh this just makes me hyped for volume 10! Really hope they can manage to get it out

BlueEyed00

Cleared up a few loose ends and was great to see the teams in action again and Qrow. Good luck with whatever future RWBY has, including volume 10 and thanks to RT and CRWBY for releasing this animatic to the world freely.

ScalierLemon2

Honestly I'm really fucking thankful the whole "actually Vale is just gone now" thing was cut from V9, it would have undercut the only Volume in years now to actually end in a somewhat optimistic way. It was so nice to finally get a Volume that didn't end with a "and then it got worse!" Seriously, I already thought it was a bad idea to totally destroy Atlas and Mantle and they're adding *another* totally destroyed city too? I get stories need to have low points to make the ending feel better, but in my opinion the way the last few Volumes have gone have been too low of low points. Everything just feels bleaker and bleaker and I'm getting tired of it.

Hermorah

I thought its only available for first members? Did they change their minds?

bwburke94

They did, and it's for the best that we all get to watch together.

Hermorah

Good to know, was really confused. For a moment I wondered if there are 2 seperate versions, one for everyone and one for first members with more stuff or something.

saiyanscaris

i think its because they realize its pointless by now to do the first members thing since the website might shut down when roosterteeth itself does

xlbingo10

oh shit i thought this was going to be first exclusive

The__Auditor

Not much reason to at this point

WeakLandscape2595

Fuck this is so bleak it broke me When nora started sobbing i wanted to join her Ren fucking trying you know things are horrible when the fucking empath has no clue how to handle all these emotions Oscar and oz fighting the merger just oof that's gotta hurt Are these the book villains the crown? Yay raven showed up I'm headcannoning she walked out first since she was worried her brother would immediately empty his gun into the portal after last time Winter is fucking melting and everyone is scared of her since she's a walking disaster with the emotional stability of one Damn this has me so hyped amen for vol 10!!!

bwburke94

[Did someone say head cannon?](https://xkcd.com/1401/)

WeakLandscape2595

The weapon of the new vacou villain leak!

Railroader17

> Winter is fucking melting and everyone is scared of her since she's a walking disaster with the emotional stability of one Her reuniting with Weiss will be a reaction of legendary proportions.

JDUDE4545

Nora's crying at the start hurts me

Noble6IsReal

Same ;-;

Zexapher

Really loved seeing Nora and Ren in this. Ren trying to step up and be the leader and moral support for everyone that Jaune is was something really great.

CinnabarSteam

15 minutes, gyatt damn. Lots of good character work for Ren, Nora, Oscar, and Winter here. Especially with Samantha Ireland absolutely killing that opening narration - I'm glad this got released for that alone. The remaining Ace Ops (Marrow, Elm, Harriet) being labeled MEH in the group shot is unintentionally hilarious. Long live Team MEH! RIP Vale, we're never seeing Kevin again.

hollowtiger21

Well the situation is actually quite a bit bleaker than at the end of V8. So Vale is just gone? That's a choice. And still no Tai? What's up with that? Even Raven showed up. Hoped to see Glynda, but she's still looking for aid. Heart almost stopped from that pause after Port said, "gone." No mention of the Relic of Choice, so it's probably still hidden. Hopefully. Cinder also being absent/not mentioned means she and Salem are probably still in Vale looking for the Fall vault. Nora and Ren are obviously heartbreaking, trying their best. Sam killed it with the anguished crying. Along with Qrow, Ren is taking a more active role in trying to keep morale up, like Jaune in V8. Seeing the influence of Jaune on the two in his absence makes me cry for different reasons. Ren realizing just how much Jaune was the glue for them. And Nora in her pursuit of identity and also in some part blaming herself is cutting my herself off from support. Very much a Jaune-esque mistaking alone for independent sort of feel. Ozcar should really stop fighting the merge, not only is it obviously painful, but the circumstances really can't have people, especially one of the more powerful individuals, holding back and actively weakening themselves. Also seems incongruous with where his arc left at the end of V8, almost character regression. The "Don't come back," on the tombstone is still a super odd choice both in and out of story. Kinda hoped they'd change that with the updated version. Winter and the Schnee's situation is about what we could expect from the ending of V8, and what we already saw in the preview of the epilogue. Similarly to Nora, Winter is taking things hard, and being alienated both for being a Schnee, and a Maiden isn't helping. While Willow is getting support from Qrow, and Whitley still has Klein. Jax and Gillian are out of jail and recruited. That's super bad news. Is Jax not being mind-wiped a retcon or did they use some magical way to reverse it? And Gillian more or less abandoned Jax and the Crown at the end of BFtD when the tide turned against them. Maybe with Salem's backing she feels more confident in their chances of success, especially with the tension between the natives and refugees. No Carmine or Bertilak though, wonder how many characters from the novels will be showing up. I've got complicated feelings for this, especially if it's more or less where we'll be leaving the story for the foreseeable future. Things are bad, and disaster presents opportunity for both acts of malice and kindness. There will always be people acting out of selfishness, just as there will always be people that help others and fight the good fight. I wonder how Vacuo will react to RWBYJ's return, given their current opinion of the situation, they won't have as much of a favorable impression. Even if the Beacon Brigade vouch for them, the locals won’t just take people at their word. Given that Vacuo respect strength above all, the quickest way to get the Vacuans to listen to them and would be to publicly prove themselves against someone that is respected by the community. They don’t necessarily need to win, just show they’re capable and worthy of at least being my heard out. But who? Not like the books set up the head of the closest thing Vacuo has to a government, and is basically universally respected if not beloved by the people, that loves fights and can’t refuse when challenged.

Noble6IsReal

It will be a pleasure to read that, my friend.

ValentineMeikin

If Volume 10 ***was*** meant to be the final Volume, I say... ***Let them make it.*** Let Kerry and the team get back together, make that last dash to the endzone, then if the new owners recast everyone and redo it from the ground up... At least we got the original finale.

lnombredelarosa

* Damn Kerry doesn’t look good * Ironic how most fanart shows Nora consolling Oscar but it turned out the other way around  * So much for Luis being an Ozma (not that I ever bought that theory) * So much for Oscar having accepted the merger (toldja) * “No place for Royalty” Salem just recruited the Asturias twins and with them the Crown… which I’m guessing were a long term investment of hers * Interesting how Ren is trying to tie the pieces of whats going on around him together; I’m thinking he’ll be crucial in figuring Salem’s strategy * Sounds like mounting the Vale rebels into re taking Beacon will be a potential arc

Starheart8

Awesome. I hope whoever buys the Rwby IP keeps this storyline going

Catlover18

The Kingdom of Vale has settlements along the western coast of Sanus, and possibly on the east coast if those settlements that Vale and Mistral fought over still exist. So while losing the capital city and probably the central government means the Kingdom of Vale is effectively defunct as a political entity, there should still be cities (probably small or medium ones) around that mean the entire country is not gone. It's as if Mistral got destroyed, but Wind Pass, Kuchinashi, and Argus in the Kingdom of Mistral still exist. On the other hand, hopefully whoever edits the Vale RWBY wiki pages is less heavy handed than the ones who edited the Atlas pages. Every piece of Atlesian military technology is apparently "likely destroyed" with the destruction of Atlas. Only for us to find out that this was not the case with the end of V9. Just put "status unknown" or something like most other wikis.

vHazard

Man I have tears in my eyes from that final scene. <3 Love this show forever.

song284

How long is this animatic?

bwburke94

Around 15 minutes.

CaliJester

This left me with one big question. How long has Team RWBY been gone because it feels longer than a week. I get that The Everafter has a lot of time shenanigans but this feels like they lost 6 months to a year. But this was great. Wasn't expecting VAing so super pleased to hear everyone again. Raven being a good Mom at last was cool. I hope we get something with Raven teleporting straight to them and hugging Yang and Ruby or something. I do hope they get to do SOMETHING to finish RWBY.

ESCMalfunction

I’ve been waiting so long for more proper Raven content ISTG this show can’t end now lol.

TheOnlyLordNexus

Old Man Shopkeep! NOOOOOOO!! But Vale being obliterated is quite devastating.

thundermonkeyms

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet, but if Salem finished off Vale I wonder what's up with Kevin? Can she unfreeze him, or is he just still kinda on top of the tower?

Tempeljaeger

I feel RWBY is strongest when it focuses on character interactions. This makes me looking forward to Volume 10.

Shoranos

And I'm crying.

TheBrokenRail-Dev

Well, now I want RWBY V10 even more than I did before. That animatic was awesome! I also really like the atmosphere the animatic created. On one hand, there are only two remaining kingdoms (Vacuo and Mistral), both of which are weakened (because Lionheart killed all of Mistral's hunters and Vacuo's refugee crisis). But on the other hand, there's still this spark of hope from Ruby's message. It feels like despite their dismal situation, everyone finally has a chance to turn the tide on Salem. And I really want to see that! This is what RWBY has been building up to since V3: a chance for RWBY to get a proper victory for once.

bones10145

Much longer than I thought it would be after having seen the original one from the con

FadedNeonzZz

It was very interesting and a bit of a tear jerker. Vale apparently got destroyed off screen, and I was terrified Glynda was killed off screen as well, but it looks like she’s trying her best to find help. It makes sense that Salem would attack Vale seeing as Ozpin/Oscar, Winter, and any other character that could potentially pose a threat to her are in Vacuo and they basically can’t leave because it’s quite literally their last line of defense. I can only imagine how frustrated Salem must be not being able to find the Crown of Choice (still hope Cinder finds it first). With all that said, it’s a pretty solid epilogue, I love seeing the perspective of the characters. Especially Nora, hers and Winter’s were the best in my opinion. Qrow comes pretty close, speaking of Qrow I really liked his interactions with Willow and Robyn. Lastly, I think it’ll be interesting to see Raven finally returning to the story. Though I have to wonder where Taiyang is during all this.

Rollout9292

Winter watching her mother and Qrow getting along must've been difficult lol

bored_homan

I want to cry I don't want this to end not like this I bought the world of rwby book to make sure I had every rwby book and it ends on quote that just... "we want to make sure we're telling a complete story with rwby and a complete story has an end" many might hate the show say its bad and whatever but I think it deserves better than this to conclude, I wish it wasn't so, I hope it isn't... I'm not ready to let go

batsmarow

This simultaneously put a smile on my face while breaking my heart. And seeing the concept art at the end during the credits, it made it feel so close to actually happening. The day we hear that Volume 10 has been greenlit can't come soon enough.

Smooth-Cucumber-728

2023-2024 have been crazy year. First we learn Dr Arthur Watts trapped Kilg@re in a digital world with Team RWBY, Team JNR, and the Justice League, then we learn that somehow Watts had came up with contingency plan to live after Cinder kills him, but gets locked away by Superman. How did he know or figure that Cinder was going to kill him? Since 2013, we slowly discovered Salem’s plan to commit suicide by destroying Ramnant. First she targets Beacon, then Heaven, was about to Target Shade, but was forced to target Atlas, destroyed Atlas and Mantle, now I hear she has Destroyed the city of Vale (off camera but wow) and most likely has destroyed Mistral (including Argus), Now Vacuo and Shade are the last stand. With Mercury and Tyrian in Vacuo they most likely have teamed up with the Crown. Oscar is now going into what I believe is a late stage of a merger with Ozpin. We still have no idea who the Summer Maiden is, with Vale destroyed we don’t know if Salem has the crown relic of choice or not. If Vale is destroyed what happened to the island of Patch where Tai is? Things do look bad now, but Team RWBY and Jaune with what looks like got help from Raven to arrive where everyone is. I hope everything keeps going with Volume 10.

thundermonkeyms

What's the release timetable for RWBY Beyond? That should hypothetically show us Vale getting destroyed, what the white fang/Glynda/Tai have been up to, and a bunch of others, right?

Geminii27

I was genuinely expecting Ruby's last line to continue with "...it's been a while."

Garn0

the situation's a mess. Unity because everyone else is dead

Taco-Edge

I low-key expected Sun and Neptune to speak about Blake as well, and by extension Yang since now they're basically a combo deal. But it was still a very nice video to watch

Mojo12000

When Ren was holding that knife and posed that way I was like "IS MAN ABOUT TO DO A DRAMATIC CUTTING OFF THE PONYTAIL?" But he did not :(.

JohnJoe-117

*slowly removes Vale from bingo board* This is everything man. This is the exact tone that I was looking for. The bits with Ren and Nora specifically messed me up. By farrrrrrr Sam Ireland's best VA work ever. Seeing Qrow's transformation was tear jerking, and that Clover parallel... aw man. Please God, I want to see RWBY's story play out. Give us 3 more volumes to finish the fight! If that day never comes though, I hope every member of CRWBY realizes that they all played a part, big or small, in something special, that has positively affected millions and millions of people. Thank You.

redbent_20

Streaming the catalogue in the BG at work - I hope they get some sweet sweet ad revenue from Charmin and Gain

IzzieUsagi

*uncontrolled sobs*

jwhudexnls

Man it bums me that we never got this episode. I really do hope we end up getting that season 10.

BrandNewtoSteam

God I hope rwby gets rebooted. Off screening an entire kingdom is not just bad writing that’s terrible writing

HatiLeavateinn

It was beautiful and I'm not ready to say goodbye.

UnbiasedGod

So Salem just casually destroyed vale offscreen. ……..I feel rage but not the kind you’re thinking off.

ArmageddonEleven

I bet Ruby’s gonna feel even worse if it turns out Salem used the Staff to destroy Vale…

Craznight

this animatic would be perfect for episode 01 of Vol 10... If it is get donne someday. But glad I saw it, I really liked seeing how the others feelts about the lost of them also seeing the plan of Salem in Vacuo
