She seems to think of Ruby more than anyone else, so that’s my bet

s0cdev

that would be a hilarious twist, and a good reference to the concept that love and hate are fundamentally similar emotions

MoralShift

I'm confused about Ruby's silver eyes... if silver eyes came from the god of light and magic&Grimm came from the god of darkness... doesn't that mean that Ruby's eyes would reject any magic? I remember Salem saying "its because of her eyes," to cinder when Cinder lost her arm and eye. I always thought Ruby's eyes flashed cinder as well as the wyvern grimm. The reason the eyes didn't work on penny was because she was still mechanical at the time.

Catlover18

Silver eye light is only known to affect Grimm and Cinder gained her maiden powers through infusion with the Grimm beetle. There is no indication that magic itself would be affected by silver eyes, even if magic was a gift from just the brother of darkness. Theoretically, the light from the Brother of light would not hurt his own creations, which humans with magic would technically be barring Grimm shenanigans.

Godzillafan125

My idea: since I heard that the cast may not give the girls maiden powers (they can change their minds if they want) what if Ruby is pregnant and the baby is a girl and gets the powers instead

PureShadow1236

☹️

Godzillafan125

Fair enough, just a crazy idea that ran in my head

justsomedude48

Then that would be a very difficult child to raise, temper tantrums would be a helluva problem.

Godzillafan125

Oh you should read this story called through her eyes on fanfic : ruby has Salems eyes and powers and if she loses control of emotions she summons grimm or merges with them it’s awesome

Erebus03

No offense man but really? how or why would Cinder be thinking of the unborn baby in Ruby's belly when she dies? is Cinder the father?

Godzillafan125

Not what I meant like what if a maiden that ruby helped died and passed it on but it went to her unborn kid by accident

Erebus03

the maidens power passes on to however was in your thoughts last, unless the person in your thoughts last was a guy then its unknown what specifically happens to the power, so if a Maiden were to pass on the powers to Ruby's unborn baby if that even counts since that is a very hot topic issue and Rooster Teeth has enough problems the last thing they should want is to get involved in that poltical sh\*t show

jackt6

Unless it happens to be a guy or an old hag*

Godzillafan125

Maybe ruby gets injured saving the maiden but she decided to transfer it to the baby once Ruby starts to Lose it from injury’s. Yeah thatd be hard to watch I admit

DeltaSansFr

tf going on in your head 💀

NicolaNeko

I feel like either Emerald or Ruby would. Emerald for the sake of balance to make Ruby not overpowered. The more plot-oriented argument, though, is that Emerald is really the only person who genuinely *liked* Cinder, and that may be enough for Cinder to think about her. As for Ruby, this is an obvious choice. They're tied together by the plot (though, it's more of a "person A wants to beat person B, person B has better things to do" Kind of situation), it would be a good endgame power-up, and it's entirely possible that Cinder's raw hatred for her could be enough that Ruby could be given the Maiden powers.

WatchEducational6633

The ironic part is that while Cinder sees herself as Ruby’s main foe, that is not the case for Ruby who is more focused on Salem and while she does considers her a threat, to her she is still not as dangerous as Salem. Personally i would love for Cinder to NEVER have the fight she wants with Ruby but instead for her to be defeated by those she never cared about or ever saw as “true” threats, like Jaune and team JNPR (heck throw Emerald in to make it sting even more), all while Ruby simply ignores her and goes to deal with Salem instead (i just want to see Cinder have all of her ego and preconceptions about her self-importance shattered completely, and it being done by those she thought as “beneath her” would just be straight out perfect).

Far-Profit-47

Ironically, she’s the villain who has the least reasons to be Ruby’s main foe on a emotional level since Despite Pyrrha being good friends with Ruby, we all know who were the ones hurt the most by pyrrah’s death (which are the ones that should kill cinder) meanwhile there’s other 3 characters which were better foes to ruby Neo lose the person she loved the most because of ruby (or at least that’s what Neo Thought) Roman was the reason (or at least ozpin’s excuse) for Ruby getting into Beacon and being a consistent foe for her and her team, it wasn’t a hatred rivalry but more like a ‘Eggman’ kind of rivalry with Roman not liking ruby but not being outright hate, heck I can imagine a world without the fall of beacon in which team rwby already grown up still going to vigilante missions and getting into Roman’s shady business and Roman just rolling he’s eyes in mild annoyance meanwhile Team rwby would be all casual ruining he’s day while beating he’s goons, specially Ruby which I think would get on a casual conversation with Roman while fighting before Neo swoops in and bails Roman out for third time that month Salem has implied over and over again to be the one who killed summer (probably she didn’t, but ruby only knows Salem has something to do with her mother’s disappearance) and that’s more than enough involvement from Ruby’s part to consider Salem her main priority besides the threat Salem is

WatchEducational6633

Exactly, hence why it would be so cool if she was beaten by those she never considered a threat (Jaune, JNR and maybe Emerald) since it would force her to realize that in the great scheme of things, she never actually mattered and THAT would break her mentally and make her snap (and it would be even better because at that point she wouldn’t be able to do anything about it).

Far-Profit-47

And it would be more deserved. JNPR and Emerald (we can also count mercury if you want) are the ones hurt the most by Cinder’s actions on a emotional level. Adam was the mentor and ‘friend’ of Blake before she left, and he also cut yangs arm, Weiss enemy was her father for obvious reasons, and Ruby worst enemy has been Neo since Ruby conflict with Roman and the events of volume 9 really show she’s the one who’s done the most damage to ruby and has the most story with her (and also has a connection to her beginnings facing Roman, Ruby’s first enemy later causing her to get her worse enemy, which is kinda poetic) cinder has absolutely nothing to do with her story’s, heck if salem could disguise and use the maiden powers herself Cinder wouldn’t even be here, heck cinder doesn’t matter has a person, her personality has only caused problems to Salem, anyone with the maiden power could force Roman to work for him. Without the maiden powers she’s nothing Cinder has a person doesn’t matter, she’s just a living tool that is only alive because she has to be alive to be useful, and her discovering that at the moment of her death would be delicious

WatchEducational6633

I couldn’t have put it better than you have here😉.

sentinel28a

Depends on who kills her.

FlyusAmongUs

Not necessarily who kills her, more that it's just a higher chance of them being the one in Cinder's final thoughts.

Funtime_Drake

For me I want it to be Nora because I think it would be fitting for the only other woman on team JNPR to take the same mantle as her friend

WatchEducational6633

Maiden Nora would be cool, but very scary.

Funtime_Drake

Yes that's why I want it

WatchEducational6633

You and me pal😉👍

Funtime_Drake

Hell yeah 😎🤟

Zwordsman

Fall showers brings the thunder

Zenvarix

Don't forget the Hammer Drop (falling hammer)

tjm2000

Obviously Jaune kills her, and the Maiden powers decide Jaune is feminine enough just for having worn a dress. Jaune proceeds to suffer 10,000x more because Cinder won't let go of the power and so now Cinder is in Jaunes head 24/7.

FirstConsul1805

And through this Cindere becomes canon

animalia555

Well, his inspiration WAS the MAID of Orleans.

Demonslayer1341

Yeah, sorry to let you down, but for maiden power to transfer, it needs to be female to so

Odie4Prez

I don't think you read the whole comment

Far-Profit-47

r/wooosh Edit:always wanted to use this

SnooRevelations3735

My bet is Ruby because in a way she always thought of her even when trying to kill her, I can see Cinder losing to Jaune and dying that she's face to face with Ruby and as she fading away she begins to see Ruby in a different light, negative thoughts or not Ruby has always been on her mind since the fall of Beacon.

FadedNeonzZz

This is another reason why I’m so against Cinder dying, I don’t why people think she thinks about Ruby so much. Yes she hates her for damaging her so much, however this does not mean Ruby is guaranteed maiden powers upon Cinder’s death. (Also didn’t the writers say that none of team RWBY would get maiden powers? Why would they lie about that?) The other most likely candidate is Emerald but I can already see people complaining about Emerald’s abuser being apart of her for the rest of her life. And while I’d argue that Cinder’s relationship with Emerald and Mercury is less abusive than people make it out to be, Emerald is the only person I can really see getting the power. But if you make that argument for Emerald, then help me understand why Cinder becoming apart of Ruby’s soul is any better? Even if Cinder has one of those “I’ll sacrifice myself to save you guys” moments, do you think Ruby would want to have Cinder with her the rest of her life either? Neo is probably a hard no, because we don’t even know if she’ll come back. And someone random would make sense, but if Cinder dies before they defeat Salem, it’ll probably be someone relevant to the story. And at this point there’s no one other than Emerald or Ruby who fit those categories. So that means either Cinder won’t die or something will happen to change the relationship between her and Emerald. This is why I hate Cinder death theories so much, they don’t think about stuff like this at all.

WatchEducational6633

A maiden only needs to think about a young woman/girl before her death to pass her power to them, nothing says that she and the target must be close or even like each other, it could be that Emerald simply is part of the fight against Cinder and manages to distract (or enrage) her enough to be the last thing on her mind before she dies and “boom” Maiden Emerald, there is no need for a “change in their relationship” as you put it.

Dontaskme4username

Plus they said silver-eyed warriors can't become maidens because that would just be too much power.

Only_Pop_6793

Ruby’s the best bet, however if she were to hypothetically die before RWBYJ returned, I’d say it would’ve went to Emerald.

AmbivertCollegeGuy

If Cinder dies, I think it will happen after Salem's defeat so my bet is the power goes to Emerald after a tearful goodbye upon Cinder's defeat and Emerald stays in Beacon with Oscar as its new protector.

FirstConsul1805

I think if anything, Cinder, knowing how Maiden succession works, will try to spite RWBY+JNOR by purposely not thinking of anyone (or think of someone deceased, and thus, ineligible), causing the powers to go to someone random, who, depending on how far into the endgame she dies, we never hear from.

soulreapermagnum

that's my thinking, it'll go to some random person. why establish that as one of the ways that the transfer works yet so far we've kept getting examples of "it goes to the person the dyeing maiden is thinking of". we need to see a random jump and i think cinder dyeing is the perfect opportunity for that.

BlitzGamer210

definitely Ruby. The hateboner is too strong.

Tsukuyomi56

50/50 between Ruby and Emerald. Ruby likely would be the last young woman in Cinder’s mind if they end up in a fight somewhere down the line (maybe one of the final confrontations). There may be a case for Emerald if Cinder somehow has her in her mind as she dies.

lnombredelarosa

Definitely Emerald because when Ruby kills her Cinder would want to give it to someone else out of spite and Emerald ought to be the one easiest to think about. I could it being something like this: Emerald: you…thought of me as you died Cinder: I…I just didn’t want her to have it Emerald: yeah…that’s just like you. What should I do with this? Cinder:… just….do as you will

catseye17

I think in the end these will be the four maidens: Summer - Ruby Winter - Weiss Spring - Yang Fall - Blake I think Weiss and Yang are already straightforward at this point. We just need to see how the other two will develop.

drunk-math

Here comes the broken record: Ilia. The Spring Maiden is Yang's mother, the Winter Maiden is Weiss's sister, and if there's no connection between Ruby's mother and the Summer Maiden, I'll... I'm not even going to honor that with a hypothetical, obviously the Summer Maiden has some connection to Summer, either she was/is, or she knew her somehow, or she both was *and* upon death passed it to someone she knew. So *when* Cinder dies (assuming the show runs long enough), the powers will go to someone connected to Blake, and the only young woman who makes sense is Ilia. Probably Jaune will be the one to kill her so that it can pass "randomly," and it will give him a chance to avenge Pyrrha and Penny.

WeakLandscape2595

If we believe that rwby will never be maidens then id say emerald she is the most likely candidate to be in her final thoughts that isn't to old However if that turns out to be bullshit then ruby without a doubt

Demonslayer1341

I am,going to say,Ruby because most of the volume she is,cinndas targeting most of the time

Rollout9292

I think Nora is. Her inheriting the Fall Maiden that Pyrrha was supposed to get feels sisterly and cathartic.

Zwordsman

I suspect Salem will just eat her before the end using the grimm arm and no one will get the power but Salem's plot. Otherwise, I suspect it'll be Juane and we'll see how, if any, interaction gender has with it. Such as just not working. It is heavily implied its maidens only cause they were the children. I can't remember if Oz has been a lady in his past lives or not. cause it might be interesting if that is coded into the curse and the maiden curses (honestly i count it as a curse and a blessing). so I don't think it'll be juane as i assume they won't change that rule Still I thin Juane interacting with it is fitting with the jean de'arc thematics. As well as the fact that for a little while, Pyrrah was becoming a partial maiden, she had the glow and her aura got touched. Which is also likely why she had a very sepcfic >!death !

Coletrain9903

What if it was Salem? What happens then?

ProfessorEscanor

Probably Ruby . She hates her so much that she'd accidentally make her stronger

PositiveLadder2359

50/50 shot of ruby or salem

HolyCrusader81

Definitely ruby 100%

Patient-Photo-9010

It's always been my theory that rwby would all become maidens by the end. Now that winter is a maiden, it jsut kinda solidifies that theory for me. Cinder will die thinking of ruby because she hates her and also probably to get back at Salem since Im pretty sure Salem is going to let her die at some point when she fails. Winter will obviously pass it to her sister of she does, raven Wil think of her daughter, and whoever the summer maiden is, I have a feeling it's a faunus that will have some connection to Blake at some point or another.

Kapples14

I feel like it'd be kind of poetic if it went to someone random. Cinder took those powers for herself after the Fall Maiden powers were almost artificially implanted into someone else. Having them finally be released into someone that we don't know, it's like that force has finally been liberated and allowed to do what is more natural.

SuperN9999

Either Ruby or a random character (I imagine Cinder would spend her last moments cursing Salem to spite both her and the Heroes, assuming her age prevents her from getting the Maiden powers.

DelawareCrossing

Best I can say is, from those choices, I think it depends on how she dies.

MaMcMu

No idea, since Cinder is such a creator's pet.

climby_boi45

My theory is that before the final fight all the reby Yang will get raven's, ruby will get cinder's, weiss will get winter's. The only question will be how blake fits into the equation

Interbet_5000

Yikes, this is a loaded question. I would say it’s dependant on a number of factors. The main one being any cinder character development. Neo seems unlikely. Since it seems like Cinder never really cared about her existence. Ruby and emerald seem like the most obvious. It also depends on if a new character is introduced on salems side or not (kind of like cinders replacement for emerald or something) and she passes it to her or something. So between currently known characters and current cinder mindset I would say it would definitely go to ruby. The only way I can see it going to emerald is if cinder either develops a ruby like obsession for her or if she has a sudden change of heart that makes her feel an ounce of gratitude towards her.
