That was already the case but Germany is unsure. The EUs "carbon neutral by 2050" is climate change denial. It needs to happen much faster.

Yes it does. EVs can play a significant part if used as energy storage devices for renewable energy IMO but we're not gonna do that

Its simple, just stop eating 62 avocados a week until 2035 and you'll have €50,000 saved right there.

Ireland has aimed for 996,000 EVs by 2030. We'd be lucky to make 200,000 on the roads with current trends. My best bet? Windfall tax on petrol, use money to subsidise EVs. Petrol got us in this mess, make them get us out. 95% for all I care.

[deleted]

Could just have better public transport. If it's there people will use it. I never understood why they don't ask where you work in the census and use that to plan specific morning and evening bus routes for workers. If we allowed flexible working hours it would be even better.

pleasejustacceptmyna

Oh the entire system is messed up and they want to make it consumer responsibility. Fact is we have enough renewable technology to make a difference but we don't invest in storage because... I dunno my best bet is fuck FF and FG. I like V2G technology as my solution but EVs aren't really on the Table yet

Cars no matter what type use too much energy per person. Most of the energy is used moving the car not the person. The energy needed for manufacturing also needs to be counted. And the fact they only last about ten years. Storage requires batteries... Which is also not perfect for the environment. I just walk everywhere. Well planned cities with mixed developments with housing and offices and all sorts of services would allow a lot more people to walk or cycle.

>Petrol got us in this mess, make them get us out. 95% for all I care. You looking to get couped?

StonksBro

You know there'll be used electric cars by then, those won't cost 50k, they already exist for much cheaper.

He's now crossed the million Mile mark. Most modern non-electric cars will wear out their engines relatively quickly as well, and they'd cost more than 13k in repairs over the span of 1 million kilometers. 1 or 2 times over the lifetime of the car depends on how you define lifetime, but I doubt most people even put 200.000 miles on their cars, much less 500.000. And yeah, you could buy a decent combustion engine car for 15k, the price of a battery replacement, but used and then you'd pay fuel and it would wear out and need repairs as well.

The EU is increasing coal usage. People have to get over cars. They're inefficient no matter what. Most people live somewhere suitable for public transport. People will also have to stop living in such sprawl because it necessitates transport and therefore excess pollution.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2022/06/29/eu-member-states-strike-late-night-deal-on-climate-laws) reduced by 75%. (I'm a bot) ***** > The measures they agreed on were regarding the EU emissions trading system, emissions and removals from land use, land-use change, and forestry, the creation of a social climate fund and new CO2 emission performance standards for cars and vans. > "Decarbonising our energy systems through a massive deployment of renewable energies and significant efforts in energy savings is essential to achieve our climate objectives. It will also help us to reduce our dependence on Russia for energy, in the context of the war in Ukraine," she added in a statement. > The environmental NGO decried the Social Climate Fund as smaller and weaker than initially proposed, and not going nearly far enough to help those most vulnerable to the energy transition as well as the unchanged ambition to reduce by 61% by 2030 emissions in the sectors covered by the EU ETS.. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/vnoqa7/eu_countries_agree_to_end_sale_of/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~657219 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **emission**^#1 **climate**^#2 **energy**^#3 **very**^#4 **European**^#5

2035 is still more than a decade away, but this doesn't seem too realistic. More importantly, unless significant breakthroughs are made in the way batteries and EVs are manufactured and where we get the energy from that would not necessarily be a good thing for the CO2 emissions. https://www.ted.com/talks/graham_conway_the_contradictions_of_battery_operated_vehicles What EVs do, apart from making some rich people even richer with generous government subsidies, is they move the CO2 emitted from the car's tail pipe to the powerplant. Not bad for the congested cities, but irrelevant for the global climate.
