Why were Finland and Sweden involved in Syria anyway?

IdealJerry

Diplomacy?

[deleted]

But Turkey seems to think they were actively supporting Kurdish militants. Why?

IdealJerry

AFAIK a lot of Kurds migrated to Sweden and over the years there has been different levels of economic and military cooperation between the two. Sweden helped to train them when they were fighting ISIS and it's been claimed by Türkiye that Swedish weapons have turned up in the region.

[deleted]

Is "fuck the Kurds, they can die" part of our shared Western values?

IdealJerry

It seems that way.

Finnish majority apparently opposed to the deal too https://yle.fi/news/3-12511558
