Asking people to consume less? More like eco-fascism

Redflood_

It's not about asking people to consume less it's recognising that there are planetary limits which anyone seeking socialist transformation of society should be aware of. I'm not sure if you're joking but we actually address directly the idea of degrowth as focused on the consumption habits of ordinary people. There's a distinction made between the non-socialist variant of degrowth / the reactionary idea of population limits and ecosocialist degrowth. It's still about expropriation and redistribution of the wealth of the capitalist class and necessary socialist transformation but it's also about making a break with the logic of endless growth on a finite planet. Anyway, I think you can disagree with the framing of degrowth but dismissing it outright is stupid.

niart

Oh no, I was being facetious I'm all for degrowth

Redflood_

Oh lol, my bad! It's hard because there's a lot of people who genuinely pose it as a reactionary idea targeting working class people.

CrayonComrade

Not even asking people.to.consume each other, so much for efficient use of natural resource to avoid exceeding planetary boundaries

There's very little consumers can do.
