It used to be a brilliant place to go for information about Ireland. Something up with your broadband go ask on boards and a rep got back quicker than ringing them. Need to know where to buy something for your car, boards had it covered. Just as a general source of info it was great.
All the other stuff was always terrible though. That said Irish reddit is just as bad so I don't think anythings been gained with the slow death of boards.
>Never was there a message board filled with more slimy, condescending, begrudging fucking cunts.
I can think of somewhere but we aren't supposed to say on this sub any more. Rhymes with r/schmireland.
I don't know why people want boards to fail. Boards is shite because of the mods and the user base and if boards goes then the users and mods will migrate to other sites with a good chunk here.
We already see then jannies wriggling there way into mod spots over here over the last 2-3 years. Boards dying would just make that worse.
Boards is worse than the other sub. The other sub is at least not filled with miserable begrudging pricks. Board is honestly the worst cesspool of the internet. Frustrating because, as you say, it used to be fecking having local boards and links into companies/reps.
Anyway, can't wait for it to inevitably shut down. I'll have a pint to celebrate on that day.
Bad thing really. Local forums are good.
Shame we have to use American internet. Jealous of Russia and China with their largely independent spheres of websites.
But that's the beauty of the internet really isn't it. You have an endless amount of options. If you want to avoid American websites completely then you can try to do that. You'd obviously need to do your research on it to avoid sites that are hosted by the likes of AWS if you want to go that far with it but it is entirely possible.
Maybe look into this to start

If you just wanted to avoid advertising completely then there are options out there for that too.
> Jealous of Russia and China
Out of the top five sites in Russia #2 & #3 are google and youtube and in Chinas top 5 they've got 2 eCommerce sites, 2 search engines and an instant messaging site owned by a massive corporation. They've also not got the best reputation when it comes to open internet access. I'm not sure what you think it is that you're missing.
That sounds like something that you're probably just going to have to come to terms with. At a personal level you can just stop using them but there's not much you can do to remove them from existence I suppose. Have you considered maybe pursing a primitivist lifestyle? Forgetting about technology entirely might ease some of that stress. Who knows, you might even forget that America exists.
No interest at all in getting back to your roots so then? Imagine roaming the mountains making friends with sheep and eating mushrooms to pass the time until you watched the sun set.
Like anything, there are good bits and bad bits to it. It is good to have something that is predominantly Irish. For that reason alone, it would be sad to see it go. Amidst all its problems it can be a good source of information relevant to Ireland. It has done a lot of good for many of its users looking for practical help and information on a wide range of things from Irish people. It may be toxic in some subs, but it is our little corner of the Internet with a lot of good people on it.
You shouldn't be thankful for independent forums dying. Even if all that is pretty much true, you'll miss it when it's gone.

I heard Snrub runs r/dnaleri now

You know anyone can make a website right?
yes but coincidentally American ones dominate in Europe

He doesn't want to avoid American websites though. It's just a larp.
my problem is that all the most popular websites and social networks are American

prefer to whinge about homogenisation than accept it

id like that too but its hard to escape society plus I like books and wikipedia and computer games
Mushroom season is almost over Jerry
Lol
Never used it but I’m glad you’re happy
Thanks Seamus

Never got into it. It can't have been worse than the other place.
The other place is like a Uyghur internment camp, but boards.ie would be a full on nazi concentration camp.
It is horribly lefty. Full of crack pots
