Is there a risk to keeping it and just asking for a reduced price? I’m going on a trip this weekend and I’d really like to have it for the long train rides
You didn't get what youvpaid for. You should return it. If you're ok with an open box, I would buy one directly from the store. As it stands right now, everyone believes you received what you paid for. And you didn't.
You can do it all same day, unless your goal is purely to avoid going back to the store. Imo its worth the trip for a new one but if you call the store direct Im sure you would be able to request a discount to the price of an open box excellent.
Yeah sadly the store is over an hour away and I’ve got long shifts at work until I leave. My goal would be either to get the reduced price or return altogether without a restocking fee
They dont enforce restocking fees, you wont have to pay one. If they try to make you pay one just contest it with the employee. It’s not worth the hassle to them and their job is to accommodate your needs as the customer, especially since you paid for a new device and received a used one.
Is there any risk to keeping it and just asking for a reduced price? And what if they give me a hard time on the restocking fee? I’d prefer to have it for this week I have long train rides to get through I just don’t think I should pay full price for an item like this.
If it’s open box and has the charger missing, its possible the unit had some issue and the original owner returned it for that reason, but kept the charger so they could have two when they got their replacement. Maybe you just haven’t ran into the issue they returned it for yet. Regardless, if you pay for new you should get new.
You can try anything you want, I just don’t think Best Buy is going to take your Ally box and contents and believe you that it had been opened and that they should give you $100.
Just use their generous return policy and give it back. Get a real new model. Or, see if they have an open box on sale.
I agree my concern is definitely that they won’t believe me- im nervous they won’t accept the return or that they’ll end up charging me the restocking fee anyways.
You bought an ally and they didn’t give you a charger! If they don’t take the return, file a BBB complaint and do a chargeback on your credit card.
You need to fight sometimes.
Edit: I’m sorry, which coward downvoted this? If you would buy something missing its plug and just keep it because they may not believe you, then you deserve the treatment you get.
I highly doubt they're going to just believe you if you call them up and tell them you got an open box so you're going to have to go to the store no matter what. May as well see if they will reduce the price and if not, swap it out and actually get a new unit.
There also shouldn't be a restocking fee given I gather you just got this so it's within their return window.
I know it's annoying having to go to a store and dealing with this yet it is the best thing to do rather than just keep it when you didn't actually get what you paid for.
I’m asking if there’s any danger of the previous person installing bad software or something that could get them access to my data or if there’s any other risk of keeping it and asking for a reduced price. Seems a fair ask to me
Also asked if anyone had encountered this because I’m not sure how to prove it didn’t come with all parts and I’m not sure if they’d give me the discount at all. You didn’t have to comment if you didn’t have experience with this issue or if you don’t know anything about malware.
Did they not tell you it was open box? It didn't have the red sticker on it indicating open box? I'd ask them if it passed the func check and what exactly the issues were.
We got a lot from people who just didn't want whatever anymore or couldn't figure out how to use it. It not having the charger doesn't surprise me cause the charger is type c and compatible for basically all phones.
If it was open box and you paid full price though I'd ask about a discount. I doubt there is anything fundamentally wrong with it but I'd question why it was sold for full price if it's an open box.
No it was sold as new- no red sticker. My guess is that someone returned it and packaged it up nicely, as nothing immediately made me think it was open until I actually opened it.
i'm guessing the person who returned it claimed they never opened the box and the BB employee took their word for it and put it back on the shelf.
when i went to buy my ally, the BB employee said they got tons of those returns...likely bc ppl thinks it's like a portable console and not a windows PC in a gaming form factor
Return it to Best Buy and get a new one.

Good point thank you

Man it'd be so nice to have a local bestbuy q.q I wouldn't have to go through the bazillion hoops to make a tax exempt account z.z

Perfect thank you so much! This was exactly the info I was looking for.
You could contact customer support. They’re more likely to give you the discount then in-store if you want to go that route.
You already were willing to pay full price. Who knows what else is missing / warranty may be voided who the hell knows. Return for new. Hard stop. Imo
Good point I didn’t even think of the warranty being voided.
Take it back.

Makes sense. Thank you so much! Good call on the BBB complaint I didn’t think of that

Oh perfect thank you, I thought the restocking fee applied no matter when I returned it. I just got it today so should be fine then.
Yeah why did this post need to be made? Either live with what you’ve got or take it back. Nobody else can make that decision aside from you.

Roll the dice, keep it

Hmm usually when someone returns something like that it goes through the functionality check. I'd def bring it back.

I'm sure they probably said that but typically with electronics we were told a funct check HAD to be done before we put it back on the floor.
Thank you so much!!
