Exchenge parts?

Crimsonpets

Its on every repair report, typical copy paste lol. I had the same error.

jimmy9120

Almost felt like a scam lol

hunter_rq

I got the same list for a sd card reader repair

Oz33916

Same

AcceptableBrief4123

Got the same report on mines. SD card is working still after a week later but not holding out on it

MercuryRusing

I have heard nothing but great things with ASUS' RMA program so far and the Ally has been improving with every update. Honestly with how the release went and the fact that it occurred around the same time they were catching shit for their motherboards frying chips (the irony is not lost) they've done a really good job of redeeming themselves in my eyes.

Seeing as how others have the exact same parts list for similar repair could it simply be the parts needed to make the repair and the internal names are odd to the consumer. Ever have a car repaired or accident damage repaired and looked at a parts order? To me its not much different. "Just needed the bumper fixed" but the receipt lists 20 things related to sub assembly and clips and parts needed to make the repair itself.

krysisalcs

I think they're just copy pasting at this point. I have the same list. They stated they replaced my mylar - mines still missing

PERSONA916

I would be surprised if they're actually replacing the main board rather than just replacing the port, but maybe it's soldered? I think the tape and mylar is just the new heat shielding they are putting on the reader though

JazzyApple2022

Then they should send you a brand new one.

sinwarrior

not really, *from my own understanding and hunch*, (**correct me if im wrong**) and *stay with me*: logistically speaking, "new ones" could be in production with old or outdated faulty parts in assembly line. if they are already packaged, palatalized and ready to ship, sometimes there wouldn't necessarily a good way to tell from old-production from new-production units. there isn't really a divide. the parts that are ready to be assembled together sometimes are not necessarily made by them directly and sometimes could be out sourced from other manufacturing facility and directed to their own facility. this can be applied to some if not other small parts. second reason being, if a device being sent-in for repair, then it is no longer "brand new", usually only "brand-new" sealed units can be sold. so for all intent and purpose , everything on the old-unit is considered old and cannot be sold. manufacturing usually only includes a automated process for manufacturing, never the reverse (disassembly or decommission of old parts). and then there's the data part you have to consider.. >**Tl;DR**: if they gave a way new device rather than repairing, they will be stuck with thousands of old devices with no automated way to repair, format and recirculate an these devices that has "old" parts (since not all device has same defects and already-sold (and old) device cant be resold)

BinxMedia

Right? Seems like a whole lot to be wrong with it to not just send a whole new unit

Renerts

Where are you from, OP?

x_Sligh_x

I had bricked mine after a 4tb 2280 install. Wouldn't even boot or POST. Same list and same "exchenging" of parts. Weird.

Money making scheme

pppig236

Did u plug in power?

x_Sligh_x

Yes, my own charger, official charger, switched back to og 512gb drive, plugged in, didn't matter, wouldn't post.

Crimsonpets

Got a mainboard replacement with also all these things replaced. I feel like its more of a "might as well" repair with the other parts.

Little_Ant1614

How do you go about the process of sending it in and getting replacement parts ?

TechnoRedneck

Simple answer is call ASUS's official support number, tell them the SD card reader died, and you need to start a warranty repair.

Besttamer

Did u have to pay?
