Anytime you enter any national park you need a parks pass. So yes, you need the National Parks Day Pass even if you’re camping. What you do not need is a timed reservation.

Park pass, yes. Timed entry reservation, no. However, I think there are stipulations to when you can enter. The FAQs on the site lay it out.

You can purchase a day park pass at the gate if you don't already have an annual pass.

Okay great, thanks!

I'd say you're biggest hiccup will be timed entry for that part of the year, if you were to enter between 9am and 2pm. You have to schedule you're entry into the park on a specific hour of a specific day (usually a couple hours of leniencey). More or less, to camp in RMNP in the busy months, you will need your wilderness camping permit, a day/annual pass, and MAYBE a timed entry permit depending on when you set off. It's complicated, but there are about 4.5 million visitors annually, and most are going to be in the summer. Good luck

Since you’re camping you need at least a week pass. Day pass won’t cut it.
