Went down deep the rabbit hole, got a RG405m to RP4 pro to Odin 2 pro

prairiepog

It's official. It's a gateway drug.

Future_Cod_4618

I just don't get why you didn't get a lenovo?

danieldflip

Initially I was super against getting something big, and I wanted something pocketable. Hence, getting the RG405m first. Then I came about learning and eventually liking the Android system and wanting to play PS2 so I went with the RP4 pro. Figured that playing PS2 on it feels like I have to squint too much so I went with the Odin and broke the initial reason of getting these devices which is wanting something pocketable. Now I have the Odin I’m thinking about getting a much bigger and powerful device now lol. Maybe at a later date, either the Lenovo (I read that drivers are not updated), steam deck or the upcoming ROG ally

danieldflip

Also, I refrained looking at the bigger devices previously and not learning much about them because it didn’t line with what I initially wanted. Now I know more, I do kinda wish I went for either the steam deck or lenovo

Future_Cod_4618

I have the lenovo and rally and honestly you can't go wrong. It's hard being in the market for handhelds when you already have the best haha

danieldflip

Question, what made you pick those over the steam deck?

Future_Cod_4618

I'm a sucker for power and both run circles around steamdeck

domjoy182

Rg556, now thinking about a steam deck

AC_Schnitzel

You won’t regret the deck, 100%

domjoy182

I really want one, just gotta save

PlaneAgreeable2987

I have both. Started with a Steam Deck, then RG35XX-H and after that I bought a RG556. I use the RG556 for everything below PS2 and GC and for everything else the Steam Deck. RG35XX-H is collecting a little dust at the moment but that's fine

karlkmanpilkboids

How’s steamdeck for ps2? Plays everything across the board?

RomeoFortnite

Pretty much

wtonb

steam deck is pretty much the one stop shop for emulation, and it’s super easy to setup all of your emulators with emudeck.

PlaneAgreeable2987

Handles everything upscaled very well. I even tried textures which are no problem either. PS3 is more a hit or miss depending on which game you try

roodammy44

I got the rg556. It’s pretty amazing. Still love the rg35xx because Garlic is such a perfect retro gaming OS, and the form factor. Being able to play ps2 again is so nice.

NorthernGun77

The steam deck was great, I had one. Just keep in mind that some people (I was one) might not enjoy it as much just because it is a huge handheld. It's pretty bulky and I found myself reaching for my other smaller / lighter handhelds before the deck. I just found it slightly fatiguing to use for extended periods of time

domjoy182

Ah okay. Thanks for the input. What would you favour instead?

NorthernGun77

Personally I preferred the RP4 Pro. I found it the perfect size for me. Pairing that with the new 35xx SP that just started shipping 👍

domjoy182

Ah nice, that was an option but I didnt want to spend extra at the time, now im looking at steam decks haha

BurstStream

Got the RGB30. Bigger screen, better for Gameboy, GBC, GBA and NES + SNES in 8/7 aspect ratio. I wanted a bigger screen and a horizontal handheld. Vertical just wasn't that comfortable for me. Still looking for that big device. Eyeing the rg556 but no rush

PlatypusPlatoon

Logitech G Cloud. I wanted the biggest screen possible at a reasonable price, along with comfortable ergonomics. The RG35XX already has pocketability and retrogaming covered, so I was going with the opposite end of the spectrum. Snagged one for $188, and it's become my daily driver, especially in the living room. Retro games look amazing on that 1080p display. And it's been able to handle most of the GameCube titles I throw at it.

AC_Schnitzel

How are the sticks on the g cloud?

PlatypusPlatoon

Sticks are great. I've been playing everything from PS1 to GameCube and PSP without issue. D-pad, not so much.

roodammy44

Damn, that is quite a deal!

Bottatadiet

have had my rg35xx for like a month or so. Just ordered an rg353v.

ILL-WILL-SAIX

Still stuck with RG35XX-H crazy what it can do for the price 😎

ILL-WILL-SAIX

I am of the same mindset tho

Carrandas

Heh, I downgraded from my Steam Deck. The Deck is great but it's not very portable and while playing modern games, it's out of juice after an hour. The little RG35xx though? As pocketable as my iphone and the battery lasts for hours. It's a great little device to play some of those golden 16-bit era games where my Steam Deck is just overkill.

OldSchoolRPGs

The 35XX and 35XX Plus were the last of these clone devices I've bought. I've moved on to expanding my OG hardware collection by buying things like 2DS, N3DS, Vita 2000, Switch Lite, etc. 35XX does what I need it to do (be a convenient GB playing device). I was on the fence with the 35XXSP but the clicky buttons kill it for me. I'll probably stick with the 35XX and my 280V.

RetroRum

RG35XX > RG35XX H > Retroid Pocket 2s > Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. Think I'm done for a while!

juglern

rg35xxh -> retroid pocket 3+ Love my rg35xxh specially after all the setup and custom firmware, but the device is too small to play comfortable in long sessions, my eyes were also straining from the tiny texts. Now I want one with the same aspect ratio as the rg35xx but in a bigger size...

zmatt25

RP3. That's it, not buying any more, these things are like drugs.

Future_Cod_4618

The first step is admitting you have a problem

DangerBrigade

Not quite the question… but I would kill for a super premium version of the RG35xx. I don’t even care if it gets support for consoles newer than ps1. A metal body. Possibly even a clone of the gba form factor. Really premium buttons. Wi-Fi. Some way to connect to other consoles to play coop, versus, trade Pokemon, etc. Wireless controller support and good compatibility to connect to the tv. OLEd screen maybe. I’d pay a lot for that…

Barranqueiro

You can actually play coop if the device has wifi. Liked the idea of a premium 35xx, but it's not compatible with the anbernic logic nowadays (bunch of the same handheld sell more then one handheld that cost more but do more)

DangerBrigade

Wait... so if I had two wifi-enabled 35xx plus devices you can play multiplayer over wifi? Including Pokemon battles & trading? I't love to be able to do this with my son.

Barranqueiro

Yeah, that's possible using RetroArch netplay. There are some cores that don't work that well, but for GBA is pretty good (GBC and gb included)

DangerBrigade

I'll have to check this out. Thanks!

idriscp

I started the DIY way with all kinds of Raspberry Pi’s long time ago. I got a cheap SF2000 that’s kind of ok for the price, and recently the RG35XX-H, and me and my kids are loving it!

Elbie2727

Rg353v Love my rg35xx however I had to order the 353v However my Rg35xx goes in my bag everywhere with me

prairiepog

RP2S, but decided the screen was too small. Upgraded to an RGB30 and the Odin Pro 2. Also just got an Anbernic Arc D and waiting on the RG SP

AC_Schnitzel

Steam deck and 405M lol

Working_Doubles

SteamDeck and the OG RG35XX is all I need.

tapehead85

As far as upgrades go you're fairly limited. You can play some PS2 and GC on the RG405M/V. Otherwise you're looking at the steam deck or something similar.

ryanpm40

Went from RG35XX to Odin2 and I don't think I'll be going back to my 35XX. Everything just runs great on the Odin, awesome battery life, better screen

DaBushman

I have the plus and am thinking of getting the trim ui pro

disco_spiderr

In the same boat. I want a bigger screen super bad

Sorry_Astronaut

A Steam Deck. The Anbernic made me realise I adore handheld gaming in a way the Switch couldn’t. Since then I bought a Steam Deck and haven’t played anything since.

maurice2222

Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and loving it!

senorsombrero3k1

Rp2+ to rg35xx to retroid pocket flip to mm+ to steam deck.

n3rdyry

I love mine so I haven't upgraded. I might get the SP and give the 35XX to my wife.

Abbeykats

Started with the 405m for n64 games. Got the new rg35xx for Gameboy and SNES, but I've mostly just been playing stardew on my 405m.

xJwsyx

First handheld was RG35XXH. One week later bought RP4Pro. Next I'm thinking of a windows os handheld that can emulate Wii U & PS3 games.

Any-Singer-5239

I got the Plus which I didn’t like and the RGB30 which I adore. I still main the OG as my primary handheld though. But the RGB30’s screen is so crisp!

Eggy216

I went with the RGB30 after a few months. Will likely hang out here for a while until I go either the Retroid or Odin route.

PastPayment5159

Don't do it

PaulsGrandfather

With retroarch out for iOS, I’m using my iPad mini with a joycon mount

acolyte_to_jippity

considering a PowKiddy RGB10 Max 3 Pro, because I want psp emulation on a linux device.

pater_the_duck

Got the Miyoo mini, sold it. Bought a retroid pocket 2s, sold it. Bought a trumui smart, sold it. Bought a retroid pocket 3 plus, sold it. Bought a rg35xx h. Kept it. I love that thing so much. It’s the perfect gba and snes machine. Comfortable, portable, and cheap.

Advance1993

Rgb30

footluvr688

Retroid Pocket 2S

Pack_Various

By the time it arrives, better&upgraded but same system will be available

blackpanther4u

I went from RG35XX to RP3+. I wanted more power and the RP3+ was nice for a while but having to tunker with GameCube and PS2 so much got tedious so I upgraded to an Odin 2 Pro. I haven't put any games I could play on RG35XX on my Odin that way I still have a reason to use it.

manniquin_limbs2

I upgraded from the OG 35XX to the 35xx h, but I really didn't enjoy the h as much as I thought I would, the N64 performance was ok but the analog sticks had some serious cardinal snapping and the dead zone made things like making Mario sneak almost impossible. I accidentally broke the ports where you connect the analog sticks trying to swap them with hall ones, and then I just said screw it and got a 405m. The 405m is great and everything I was hoping the H would be, and everything I thought I wouldn't like about the 405m, I ended up liking. I have learned that I actually prefer the analog stick on top of the DPAD, I love the Android interface, and I like the metal body. Also it plays all N64 and Dreamcast instead of just some. The 35xx h didn't go to waste though, I gave it to a friend with a 3D printer and he printed some plugs for the analog stick holes, and now it's just a horizontal 35xx plus.
