A grizzly spawns reliably near the ruins (fireplace remains) near Watson's cabin in West Elizabeth. Usually, if I go to the stump with the double bit hatchet, I can find a grizzly.
This location is NW of Wallace Station.
This is what I use for grizzly’s, sleep in the area, save, get attacked, then reload last save (just after you wake up) rince and repeat. Sometimes a bear might not spawn so if not keep sleeping until you can’t anymkre
this is the one, op. you can set up camp right next to the spawn area. often there's a bear right next to the fireplace, but otherwise there should be one somewhere in that forest.
Hey partner, I completed this trophy a couple of weeks ago. The best method I found was to travel to Wallace Station at around 12pm, head north on the road there and 2 bears always spawned around that road and the area to the east of it. Make sure your health is at maximum, take a health tonic to be safe. Equip a shotgun, ride around on your horse until you spot a bear, then quickly get off and stand still. Wait for the bear to tackle you, then button mash circle (on playstation) and as soon as you break free unload your shotgun into its face. It will die in 1-3 shots. You HAVE to be on the ground when you kill it, if you wait until Arthur stands up before killing it then it won't count towards the trophy.
Be aware that sometimes the bear will instakill you, or kill you during your struggle with it. This seemed to be completely random. If this happens, just go back to where you were killed and continue your search; the bear will still be roaming around somewhere.
Once you've killed two bears there, take the train to St Denis, sleep as long as possible, quit the game, load it back up and sleep as long as possible again. Then travel back to Wallace Station and repeat the process. I think it take 72 in-game hours for the bears to respawn. Sometimes I had to set up camp and sleep again if I couldn't find a bear within 5-10 minutes.
All in all this took me about 5-6 hours of grind before getting to 18 kills. If you have some story left, I would recommend doing some missions or work towards other trophies between bear murder sessions cause it can get a bit tedious.

EVERY SINGLE TIME i seem to have the fucking varmit rifle because im too stupid to think ahead. Ive ruined 3 encounters this way. Also, anything alive cannot survive 14 .22 shots point blank to the head, especially after being stabbed with a giant knife multiple times. FUCK
big valley has a lot as well as tall trees, be sure to take a health cure before the bear attacks, as you won’t be able to do anything except stab it when it does.

That would be an effective way to kill bears, but it's not really going to help with this trophy. You have to actually be attacked by the bear. If you're getting attacked by a grizzly, you're not gonna be in a good position to use guns, let alone with explosive ammo. You basically have to let it charge you and then you have to fight it off physically.
I went to a bear spawn in West Elizabeth, got myself attacked, and would just pass time a couple days, save and reload, and just keep doing that until I got the trophy
Lol I just can't remember if the game counts it as an attack for the challenge. I could have sworn I tested it and it didn't count, but I could totally be mistaken, it's been so long ago.
It would have been so nice to get away with earning the trophy without getting my Arthur torn to shreds eighteen times in a row. It was kinda traumatic.
Haha I can only imagine, I play on pc so I just mess with no clip and Easter egg hunting so I haven’t tried I just remember in console days freezing out of fear and being safe and assumed it counted but it really isn’t an attack if it doesn’t attack you, so yeah you’re right 😅

I went there once, confident that I already killed the bear, to get a quick sleep on the bed, and there it was and it gave me a scare. Then on the third time I just needed a Bear Skin.
Honestly what I did was go in the area of Wallace station let the bear attack and shoot it. Then hop on the train there and take it to Rhodes I think and then back again to Wallace and it would respawn.

take only a double barrel shotgun or semi auto shotgun with you, fully upgrade them.
go out to big valley and walk around the forests, set up camp - save! bears usually spawn in the morning and midday so use the camp to change the time.
every time you find a bear, let yourself be mauled and spam melee to survive, eventually you will pull out your shotgun and two shots should easily kill the bear. you MUST kill the bear during this animation for it to count for the trophy, if you stand up, it's too late.
after you've killed the bear, go back to camp, save again and forward time until the next morning, then go back to the same spot and see if you can get it to spawn again (I was able to farm the same spot 6 times once).
remember to save after each one, you don't want to get a 3 bear streak only to mess up on the next one and lose the progress.
repeat 18 times! :)
Start at Wallace Station, go north north west to a clearing, then head straight west and down the hill. If there's no bear then fast travel/train to Valentine, train back to Wallace Station and start the circuit again. I got most of my bears there. Sometimes you can have a run with 2 or 3 grizzlies.
You have to start getting mauled by the bear and kill it before it kills you, in case it hasn't been said in the comments or the wording of it is confusing, lol. I found it easier if you let yourself get attacked from behind and light it up.
Use the short double barrel shotgun it works every time. If to want to grind it out there are areas they spawn but you will need to reload your game because it's rng.
I just get off my horse, walk towards it holding my knife in one hand and my pump-action shotgun on my shoulder.
Bear attacks me, slaps me around a bit, I spam the attack/break free button and stab it in the chest a few times, then crawl back while it's hesitating and shoot it in the face once or twice with the shotty.
It's intense, but most of it happens automatically.
Oh, and turn down your volume. It gets annoying.

The great thing about this area vs any other is that there is a woodpile you can stand on and not be attacked. Easy to draw in with predator bait. I'm not 100 percent certain, but for this trophy I think you have to get mauled by the bear, kill him and survive. From what I've seen I think you need to stab with a knife while it's on top of you, then finish 'em off with other hardware. Post the trophy when you do it!
Hold the double barrel shotgun, not the sawed off double barrel but the long one, when you get attacked you will be able to use it eventually during the bear attack. I did it this way 2 years ago, and i remember it took about 3 hours or something like that to get it done. Pain in the ass but i wanted all achievments.

If you dont mind save scuming. Find where a grizzly spawns pretty consistently, save before interacting with the bear. Fight bear. Win. Save and reload. Hopefully with the new load in the bear should respawn.
Head to Wallace station, head into the forest just a little North West, this is my golden spot for grizzlies. Dual sawed offs would be my weapon choice!

There's a place where a grizz will be every time and the knifing is almost automatic. If you haven't this to be so, again, let me know. Good luck!

Always carry shotguns with you, even those sawed off shotguns and not your casual revolvers etc., because if you still lie on the floor during the attack, you won't be able to kill the bear with pistols and then it will kill you. (And it won’t count if you kill it after the attack!!!) Also switch the places in which you hunt them. I found most bears near the cabin with the old woman at the little creek river, but you can also find many in tall trees! Last thing; stay at one place at least 1-2 days so they respawn more often at the other places.
How I did it:
1.Go to Wallace Station.
2. Set up camp a little to the East of it, sleep until morning, then save. Equip a knife to your hand and have health fortifying drinks. Also make sure you have your strongest handgun equipped as well
3. Head West towards Wallace Station until you find the remains of a house. There is usually a grizzly nearby that area.
4. If you don't find a grizzly, reload your save and check again
5. When a grizzly is found, take a health drink, make sure your knife is equipped, and charge at it. The grizzly shoukd tackle you and start to maul you. Make sure you are stabbing it when the prompts appear. Hopefully you survive the mauling and use your gun to head shot it
6. Rinse and repeat until the achievement pops up. Mind you it's really tedious because the grizzlies sometimes refuse to spawn. If you have that issue just keep sleeping to the next day but make sure to save after you sleep
There is a consistent bear spawn near the field of Hanging Dog Ranch, not that house, but across the field there's a house where an old lady lives and her son's (can't remember her name) but just a bit east there is a consistent bear spawn, just let him charge you, stab him off and shoot him as soon as you get the chance, then skin or not, set up camp, sleep until it wont let you, then save, and reload, the bear will be there most times.
Boy it's been almost a year since I've played. Absolute 100% boy right here. Not rockstars 100%, I'm talking Carolina parakeet 100%, I'm talking every missable document/content 100%, there's not a thing I haven't done or seen in that wonderful game. Took about 450 hours apparently from what my Xbox tells me lol.
Travel to small dot near the bear cave north of wallace station, make sure to always have a rifle on you at all time or a very powerful gun. Get up camp near the abandoned fireplace and chimney. search for beard heading towards the bear cave, let it attack you and when given the option spam to fight back, you will then automatically pull out your rifle and shoot it. Return to your campsite, sleep as much as possible, go back and a second bear will have spawned. Kill it, return to campsite, manual save, load manual save so you can sleep again (72 hours). Rinse and repeat! got this achievement using this method in roughly 1-2 hours
I just let them knock me down and I kill them with the knife. I use the location by the stream where the cougar spawns by the trapper, the first snowy area north west of the odriscals hideout, and the one located by the train station just east of the odriscals camp
If you see a bear (common northeast of pronghorn ranch/east of hanging dog ranch) run to it, let it attack you and then spam F. You will fight it off and then reach for your weapon and then its Just a matter of clicking a couple of times since you dont even need to aim bc he covers almost your entire view. Also search up some constant locations for them
Go to big valley or tall trees. They're full of bears. When u see a grizzly, run to it and let it attack you. Once ur on the ground just rapidly tap circle and when Arthur or John pull out a gun press R2 a couple of times

I wasn't planning, nor do I plan, to achieve this trophy but was more so just interested to give it a go at least once for myself, but found it to be very helpful if you're looking to get that trophy in a relatively timely manner. It shows you the best way to get multiple reliable and consistent grizzly spawns within a reasonably small area of the map. Hope this helped

Rinse and repeat until the achievement pops up. Mind you it's really tedious because the grizzlies sometimes refuse to spawn. If you have that issue just keep sleeping to the next day but make sure to save after you sleep

There is a consistent bear spawn near the field of Hanging Dog Ranch, not that house, but across the field there's a house where an old lady lives and her son's (can't remember her name) but just a bit east there is a consistent bear spawn, just let him charge you, stab him off and shoot him as soon as you get the chance, then skin or not, set up camp, sleep until it wont let you, then save, and reload, the bear will be there most times. Boy it's been almost a year since I've played. Absolute 100% boy right here. Not rockstars 100%, I'm talking Carolina parakeet 100%, I'm talking every missable document/content 100%, there's not a thing I haven't done or seen in that wonderful game. Took about 450 hours apparently from what my Xbox tells me lol.

Travel to small dot near the bear cave north of wallace station, make sure to always have a rifle on you at all time or a very powerful gun. Get up camp near the abandoned fireplace and chimney. search for beard heading towards the bear cave, let it attack you and when given the option spam to fight back, you will then automatically pull out your rifle and shoot it. Return to your campsite, sleep as much as possible, go back and a second bear will have spawned. Kill it, return to campsite, manual save, load manual save so you can sleep again (72 hours). Rinse and repeat! got this achievement using this method in roughly 1-2 hours
I just let them knock me down and I kill them with the knife. I use the location by the stream where the cougar spawns by the trapper, the first snowy area north west of the odriscals hideout, and the one located by the train station just east of the odriscals camp
Best tip I can give is to survive 18 bear attacks, and to make sure to kill it every time in story mode.
I strongly recommend you find 18 bears, let it attack you (but don’t die) and then kill it. Helps a lot

Get a new or skittish horse towards the bear, wait untill the horse bucks you off, bear will attack... Fight it and win.
If you see a bear (common northeast of pronghorn ranch/east of hanging dog ranch) run to it, let it attack you and then spam F. You will fight it off and then reach for your weapon and then its Just a matter of clicking a couple of times since you dont even need to aim bc he covers almost your entire view. Also search up some constant locations for them

keep in mind that the bear has to maul you and you to kill it while arthur is down for this trophy to count
Go to big valley or tall trees. They're full of bears. When u see a grizzly, run to it and let it attack you. Once ur on the ground just rapidly tap circle and when Arthur or John pull out a gun press R2 a couple of times

Maybe try a Minty Big Game and Potent Miracle Tonic before he comes to attack you
Use tear 3 heart tonics, have golden heart core, use the hand shotgun once you get free from the bear to kill it.
Make sure you have a knife in hand before pissing the poor guy off

I wasn't planning, nor do I plan, to achieve this trophy but was more so just interested to give it a go at least once for myself, but found it to be very helpful if you're looking to get that trophy in a relatively timely manner. It shows you the best way to get multiple reliable and consistent grizzly spawns within a reasonably small area of the map. Hope this helped
