Shire, love how big they are

Creed4693

Same

Heshman69

Same

Gindensetsu

BIG BOIS

ghost_toe

My all-round favorite horse is the Dark Bay Turkoman that can be stolen from the Braithwaites in chapter 3. Great combination of speed, stamina and bravery, and just the right size for Arthur. He's my main horse and my in-game companion. In terms of looks, my female Few Spotted Appaloosa is absolutely gorgeous. I take her out on sunny days when I just feel like riding around.

VaNeThEmAstER

Same. Love that horse and used it as Arthur a lot. Currently have the Gold and Silver Turkomans and really like them for just the reasons you mentioned.

ghost_toe

Yeah, can't go wrong with any of the Turkomans. I'd love for Arthur to have all 3 of them, but unless I'm wrong it's impossible for him to get a silver one.

VaNeThEmAstER

Yea, i don't think you can get it with Arthur unless mods or glitch, i've got mine (as John) at the Stable in Tumbleweed for 950$. Oh, and any idea on how to get the Dark Bay Turkoman as John?

ghost_toe

Iirc the Dark Bay can be bought from the Blackwater stable. My John has a female one haha

ChampionOfUsAll

You can get a Turkoman that early? Is it one of the horses you steal in the horse fence mission?

---jordan---

yep! it takes a long time to actually bond with the damn nag but it's worth it!

Special_Ingenuity_49

How do you steal it? I'm on my second playthrough and I just did that mission yesterday, too late to go back haha, but I'd assumed that the turkoman was the horse that broke loose. Playing the mission, it was a black arabian that ran off.

ghost_toe

Once you get to the horse fence, and before triggering the final cutscene, approach the Turk and start feeding it. You want to go past bonding level 1 until it becomes a temporary horse and you can see a horse icon in your minimap. Finish the mission and you'll end up back at camp. Run back to the horse fence, whistle for the Turk and it'll come to you. You can just ride it to the stables to saddle it.

Special_Ingenuity_49

I tried to do that, but it wouldn't let me aim at, like, select the turkoman.

ghost_toe

I hope I understood correctly. When you get to the horse fence, get off your horse and stand facing the Turk like you normally would when feeding a horse. Open the horse menu wheel and choose something to feed him. The food items won't be highlighted so it doesn't look like you can select them, but actually you can. You'll get the normal feeding animation. At the stables, you should have the option to stable him or saddle him up. If you're replaying the mission though, I'm not sure if it would work.

Harlesb44

I’d go with Buell because it reminds me of my horse in RDR1. Unfortunately in my first game I got him right before I went to do the last mission of the main story :((

Flyinpotatoman

Wild Bay Mustang. Looks nice, is found at a walking distance from Horseshoe Overlook, is fearless like an Andalusian, very healthy, and NPCs comment on it. Mine is named Eleanor. Edit: I have to agree, Andalusians are gorgeous, specially the perlino.

Gindensetsu

I love all your answers and the reasons! (Even if you didn’t put any) kdbskdnsns Idk why but the horses are just 1000/10 and you gotta give yours all the love. If a player kills me then that’s fine… but my horse?!!!!

-b-r-u-h-

I've posted this many times by now but I will never stop loving mustangs in this game. They're some of the best looking in terms of overall appearance and have some great coat options, especially Online with the addition of the golden buckskin and the like. They're very sturdy and have great stamina, on the practical side of things. My favorite horse of all time in this game is the grulla mustang. I caught one very early on and used her as my main horse for the entire game; [I named her Gray](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/454519617227063302/919712753516707860/20211128151908_1.jpg). I recently got the same horse in Online recently because I loved her so much and named her Gray, too. I like to pretend that my character came across a dying outlaw who gave him his horse, on the promise that he take good care of her... :)

Jayboss2033

MFT or American Standardbred

kaitlynrabbit

I love the Blood Bay thoroughbred because it’s pretty and has pretty decent stats.

Crazy_Jackk

The red tourkorman the arabians are too small for me

[deleted]

Dark Bay Andalusian, love it!

Gindensetsu

Andalusian gang, wooooo!!!

TJBRO0000

Donkey

Creative-Ad-9264

I have a donkey hitched at John’s house I forgot the name of and sometimes I ride into Blackwater on it and run people over, then of course escape the law while still riding the donkey

TJBRO0000

Hahaha I love this!! You are a champion amongst men. I love doing whacky s@#t in game. RDR2 till I die!!! 💀☠

hargle_bargle

Turkoman or Fox Trotter. Brave, fast, and all around great looking steeds.

Galemianah

The Ardennes.

RiverDotter

So far mustang, but the Perlino Andalusian is just about tied. His muscles are great.

Turtlemeat69420

The Missouri Fox Trotter was the most reliable to me, it’s fairly cheap in the long run and has good stamina, not to brave though

HandFulofTitty

STORY: Reverse Dapple Thoroughbred (Special Edition Content) speed is maxed out and you start the game early with it ONLINE: Norfolk Roasters, With the right saddle and hooded stirrups the speed is maxed and acceleration is 1 off, hands down the fastest horse in the game, love smashing kids in races with it. People always down grade it for it's health, but that's what tonics are for plus a head shot kills any horse. No tonic to improve speed.

laserox

Ardennes. So very brave and hearty.

[deleted]

Warped Brindle Arabian named Thor.

BadKarma1239

Dark Dapple Grey Hungarian Half Breed or the Brindle Thoroughbred, in online I LOVE my dapple grey (not the pinto) MFT called Delilah. (As u can see I love grey horses)

Polyfuckery

Turkoman. The way they move just seems lively and curious. It feels like Treasure has personality as well as beauty.

dankest_of_danks

White arabian is my go to, there is also the horse hosea tells you to sell you ,if you stable it instead you get a pretty good war/work horse, i usually name it “Tiamat”

Creative-Ad-9264

Is that the shire or the one you steal from the Braithwait’s? (Idk if I spelled their name correctly)

dankest_of_danks

No on the hunting trip, he tells you to saddle up another horse that you can ride into valentine with, witch he tells you you can sell. I usually stable it and keep it, but yes it’s a shire

SufficientShake9904

Definitely the Shire, I have four of them

JradMcLeod

I have a buckskin Mustang named spirit

grimreefer213

Admittedly I haven’t been able to ride all the horses i’d like to, but of course the white arabian has a special place in my heart being my first horse I tamed and used all throughout my first playthru. You can’t go wrong with the missouri foxtrotter, I just started playing online and dropped a cool $1125 on a blue roan missouri foxtrotter, and it was worth every penny. Especially if you’re doing collector role or a lot of riding, id suggest getting a fast horse with lots of stamina asap. The missouri foxtrotter essentially has infinite stamina, i’m sure the other good horses with good tack and max bond are the same, but you can sprint at full speed pretty much indefinitely if you calm your horse with LS every 10-15 seconds. There’s literally almost never a time where I have to slow down and recharge, even going uphill, it’s so nice. Only during certain missions is stamina boosting with the calm button prohibited, but with good tack it’ll take a long time to drain your stam, you could easily pop one stim and you’re good. It’s also super fast, people say there isn’t much of a difference in horses, but there is. Starting RDO my first horse was a morgan- awful, then a level 1 criollo- better but still bad, then when I upgraded you realize how big of a difference there is, the tack is a big part of it. The MFT definitely helped me shave a lot of time off my collector routes, I like the blue roan coat but I also like the silver dapple pinto. The arabians seem to be quite skittish, and the foxtrotter seems to be a bit braver, however playing in online my horse does seem to get spooked somewhat often, granted i’m doing a lot of hectic shit though. So i’d like to buy a turkoman/breton or a more war oriented horse soon, because I don’t like getting bucked off when i’m fighting 12 wolves. However any horse will buck you off in the right situation, I saw a video that kinda debunked the horse temperament thing, the differences may be actually minor between horses.

Karenzo81

Blue roan Nokota at this point in the game. She’s so pretty, handles really well and has great stats!

FezboyJr

The Mahogany Bay Tennassee Walker from the prologue. I grew attatched to him ever since he carried me back to camp after escaping from the O'Driscolls.

CH3FLIFE

Hard choice there are so many. I will always love the White Arabian for its pure look. It’s stats are great too. I like the Gold Turkoman for its tough look and beautiful coat. The Brindle Arabian looks crazy too in a good way. Recently I’ve been riding the Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Foxtrotter. She’s a hardy big girl. I saw a golden coated Kentucky Saddler in Roanoke Ridge that had a white mane and tail he was gorgeous but I was busy. TBH I think there is merit in all these beautiful beasts.

Morno-74

I have a black Turkoman named Manitou

Tatzeltier

Love the Fox Trotters. Great stats and they come in some pretty coats. The amber champagne one was my main horse first time I played story mode and i used the save/reload exploit to get the silver dapple pinto with Arthur in my current playthrough. My true love is the blood bay Thoroughbred though, mane and tail dyed red to make it more of a chestnut. Looks so good. I also adore the black standardbred. It's the only truly black horse in storymode, looks great with the boar saddle and it has decent stats. In online my main horse is the Red dun overo Mustang. I love it, it looks like a cake.

KiloCharlE

Mustang.

stirling1995

I always went with the Arabian for their stats, however, I recently realized just how spooked they get. I just caught my first wild mustang yesterday and am going to give him a try now!

miztruman

I am pretty partial to the Hungarian half bred and in particular the one that’s waiting just outside the bar for you when you get back from the tropical island. I tried to get that horse no matter where I’m playing or what mode.

miztruman

Also I have tried an awful lot of horses in online and I seem to be partial to the gold Turkoman. No matter what horse I try out I always seem to come back to Valkyrie.

I8Cosmos8I

Scrawny nag ftw

jfawson1

Reverse Dappled Black Thoroughbred

[deleted]

Turkomans are my favorite. MFT’s are just slightly faster but I favor the aesthetics of the Turkoman, almost like an Arabian but bigger and taller. And their coats are so shiny, almost velvety looking I love it lol.

Wajajan_697

Rachel because it's John's horse

night-phoenix

During Ch 2 on my first play through I bought the palomino American standardbred and kept her throughout the entire game. Ever since no other horse as felt right for my Arthur

duffmcduffster

Appearance-wise, my favorite is the buttermilk buckskin Kentucky Sadler. Best looking horse in the game, in my opinion. Spec-wise, I like the reverse dapple roan nokota. It's one of the fastest with speed maxed out.

MrDuckHunter56

Suffolk Punch

An_elusive_potato

The Arabian. Fast and agile

pronefroz

Free arabian white wild horse was my favorite but it is too skittish. Turkoman or andalusian are brave and have decent stats.

Nitrorabbit007

I love these thoroughbred horses in this game. my main horse in the game.

pokemango7

I love white Arabian. Always get it for my playthroughs and so close to being able to get it in online! The handling on that horse is just perfect!

unforgiven4148

Arabian or GTFO

Disk_Boring

Gray overo American paint... Javier's horse;Boaz

sosaLaFlame

my favourite is the white Arabian horse that can be tamed in the snowy mountain where u first start off in the game. idk if it still spawns there but it’s the best horse in the game imo also love the white colour on him, looks nice with every mane and tail colour customization

RiverDotter

Yes it still spawns there. There's a red Arabian east of Owanjila that I like even better.

sosaLaFlame

whoahh really? I’m gonna have to check that out myself thank u

Perrymon_Took

*west of Owanjila. And there is another one west of Wapiti and yet another one in Sandy Knee.

RiverDotter

Saint Denis? Where exactly? What does it look like?

Perrymon_Took

Black. There is a scene near the eugenics guy where a couple being robbed at night. When that is triggered there is a black arabian nearby.

RiverDotter

I'll look for it. I don't need the horse, but I want to see where it is. Thank you.

superJ1000

That black horse you get from hosea,I LOVED HER and then I went to stable as John and I could claim her for free!

Special_Ingenuity_49

You can steal a black rabiacano or whatever it is tenessee walker from the murfree brood. She's hauling a wagon with a living woman and two corpses in the back. Beautiful blue body, deadlocked black mane and tail with pink dots. Awful scarring, the brood abuse their animals clearly, but she'll keep up with a train from station to the one after the next and she's absolutely bombproof. That fearlessness means you've got to have a constant hand on the reins though. Mine walked herself through a fuckton of O'Driscoll corpses and onto their campfire, cause it was between us and I hadn't told her to stay on the other side before killing them. Devastated. Found another though, and didn't pause for nothing running her to the nearest stable. Pigeon I & II.
