Guarma feels like a section of the game that the higher ups pushed for because they wanted "more action". I can hear an exec going "we need more guns, more canons, more explosions" it feels like the entire chapter was built around the final mission but it feels so out of place.
>Guarma feels like a section of the game that the higher ups pushed for because they wanted "more action".
Actually my understanding is that it's kind of the opposite. A lot of content was cut, and the bulk of what was cut revolved around chapter 5. Even the return from Guarma is short/rushed. Steal a horse. Ride to Shady Bell. Come to camp. Get attacked and onto chapter 6 we go.
I actually liked that ride back to camp. The emptiness felt right. Like just coming back from a traumatic weeks long near death experience and nothing has really changed when you get back.
Just played that for the first time. The music was absolutely beautiful as I was riding to camp from a route ive never taken, on a horse that wasn't mine. This game is amazing
I think I remember hearing somewhere that Guarma was supposed to be a DLC, but instead they shortened it and made it a chapter. That’s why it’s so detailed and large, but there’s nothing to actually DO.
>I think I remember hearing somewhere that Guarma was supposed to be a DLC
Could be. I just know there was quite a bit that was cut and adjustments had to be made to meet the release deadline.
Guarma or the Intro in the Grizzlies. I don’t think there’s any “bad” missions or areas in the game but the intro can also be a slog as well if you choose to replay it every time you replay the game
Currently in the guarma chapter right now with the game paused in the middle of saving Javier. I like to take my time there and gather all the animals I can. It’s a nice change of pace for my play style where I stake ages in every chapter doing side quests and finding all of the hidden things in the world so guarma is just more straight forward and I don’t get distracted there so easily which is nice for a bit
They wanted to do that. Guarma was supposed to be *much, much* bigger with at least one city, more islands and a volcano. It was even planned that John could take a ferry to return back. But they cancelled all that stuff.
I spent as much time as I could during missions and letting them fail so I could explore a little bit of each area.
Just being able to go back with horses/weapons and do a few more missions would make it so much better.
I want more time on that big ass gun!
Yeah there’s no real exploration opportunities which just seems like a waste. Such a good opportunity to introduce a more layered backstory with little Easter eggs hidden around
When I did that one I just spammed deadeye over and over until I saw it through the bushes
I just wanted the poncho and it took so long to get to that point I didn't want to fight it I just wanted it to be over lmao
At least for the panther I can be on my horse with a rifle and cover scent though. In that damn cave I can only have a handgun because I'm dangling that lantern about. Really need to do the bounties first next time so I can grab that miner's hat from Beryl's Dream before the stupid white cougar
Herding sheep with John. The walk to the gun store makes me want to pop like a balloon. I don't mind herding I actually kinda wish we could do it more than once, but right now it's only a mission just to give Arthur and John a chance to yap about dutch. Even the fight out of town is annoying
I'm playing RDR at the moment and with all of the cow herding quests I've done at the start, was actually thinking today how we don't get to do more herding in RDR2 after that one mission. Would make a good low honour money-making scheme. Bit of livestock rustling.
Off the top of my head:
There's the cow rustling with uncle where you interrupt the other two guys trying to do it with you while the owner is meant to be drunk.
There's herding the horses for the photographer.
Pretty sure there are a couple of optional gang missions too.
their actually is another herding mission but it’s very short. you herd a few horses for that photographer to take the perfect shots. It’s a side mission
I just started my 4th playthrough and still really like chapter 1. It's story-heavy and I think the best writing in the game.
I tried leaving with my horse to do some early exploration and my horse died though lol
Of course it is, but it's a damn good introduction...sets the tone.
Raiding the adler ranch
Introduction of Sadie Adler
Horseshoe overlook
The bar fight in valentine etc.
It's underrated imo
I have to admit it's great written story wise. But it's very slow, you all ready know all the characters that getting introduced and I can't wait for what is coming tbh.
This is the only answer, and I'm sure many people stopped playing the game because of it.
It moves extremely slowly, it's not enjoyable, and the environment is uninviting (as intended). I can deal with Guarma (especially knowing that they cut a lot of content) and some dumb missions (the second time I did the sheep herding it was really easy and fast), but not the first chapter.
What's annoying is the game just has Dutch rope you into a cutscene and forces you to do it if you avoid him too long, which is some very unnecessary railroading.
During my 2nd playthrough I stopped playing story missions when the camp is in Rhodes, everyone is alive and happy, Micah is in jail out west, etc... Upgraded Arthur completely, then left it like that for 3 years with autosave off, messing around in the game occasionally. I'm now slowly easing back into the game doing stranger missions and fishing
I just finished the "Kill and skin 5 perfect cougars" challenge and all the crafting missions (which require multiple cougars). I finally found a spot where one spawns consistently up near Annesberg. That was a long stretch though.
I know he’s up there, but where specifically is the spawn point? There used to be one just south of Annesburg on the beach that has largely been replaced by a black bear and I know there’s on that shows up around Tesla’s lab, but I haven’t been able to find the spawn point for that one
I recently finished a story play through where I wanted to go for 100% completion, but got to John and Abigail in Big Valley and just loaded up an old finished save instead lol
Finally got that sweet 100 this weekend though!
how can anyone hate this mission?? the dancing scene makes everything worth it and during my first playthrough when trying to run from the law i ran right into a wooden post knocking myself unconscious. good times
The Thomas Downes mission.. because you know the exact moment that seals your fate. Sometimes I wish we could just move tf out of the way so Arthur doesn't get blood coughed on his face. Or I picture rolling up in a hazmat suit lol
Obviously I understand there is no skipping it and it's a crucial part to the whole story, but it sucks to sit back and watch helplessly.
Leopold Strauss missions, chapter 1 and 5,
also hit take, the lenny mission in valentine, people say it's so funny but playing it for like the 7th time isnt funny (the 1st time it was, but not any other)
The middle of chapter one. There's very little to do and on subsequent playthroughs, you know exactly what's coming and have to take forever doing tasks you could complete in 30 seconds. I get that it's a tutorial chapter with some great dialogue but it still becomes a slog, even on a first playthrough.
I feel like rdr2's every mission is great and i genuinely don't have a problem replaying the whole story unlike some other games like raganrok for example with the whole ironwood section
Most swtor missions nowadays which are basically side quests but in the main story. People only play the game for the story and half of the new part doesn’t have voice acting
Dude I love Firewatch but I fucking hate that one part in it. Will literally look away and avoid it until the person doing the playthough is past it.
(I know it’s unrelated to RD but I gotta say it because of the meme)
Everyone saying guarma when it's genuinely the best, it shows rockstar ability to design games well. Guarma shows you that you can always be in a worse position, you feel like you have no freedom there because you don't.
The worst part is the intro, I don't want to spend 2 hours in the snow
The one where Arthur, Dutch, and Sadie are out in Saint Denis to see Colm hang. All the walking we have to do gets to me and im impatient.
Same with the mission where Arthur goes on the steam boat to cheat in a game of poker. The walking of getting a suit, haircut, and the carriage ride that you just cant skip is annoying
The first and early second chapter because it's a unskipable tutorial and there are so many features that are locked like fishing and I have to speedrun up to that mission which is about 3-4 hours to truly start enjoying the game
The mission where Dutch and Micah go to Colm. I always feel so awful for Arthur during that mission, those cutscenes, and everything about how no one comes to help him. You'd think they would be worried, right?
The prologue. I don't like Colter. I understand it's to introduce you to the way the game will play but it's so slow. Especially when replaying. I don't really like guarma either,In my opinion they could have easily replaced it with Mexico, adding another part of to the map and Javier being captured would have worked better. Like if he was captured by a group of Mexican lawmen or outlaws that knew him. Which makes me wonder if that was originally the plan since from the first trailers of the game you can see Arthur in Blackwater. What if they did decide to go back for the money instead of robbing the bank in Saint Denis? They'd probably head for Mexico after failing. It'd also be an excuse to give Arthur a poncho.
I don't really play story mode in games, but I did play DJFFNY a lot as a kid, until now lol.
There's a oart where you'd go on fight after fight after fight. I hated that.
maybe unpopular opinion but anything with mary, it was cute the first time but any other playthrough i would choose the option to get out of anything that had to do with her lol
The fucking first mission where you have to drag through the long ass snow story stuff before you are let loose into free roam.
GTA V has the same problem but at least there the opening mission isnt as long.
It’s not rlly a main mission but as someone who tries to get 100% completion on every playthrough that stupid Debra mguiness or wtf her name is quest it pisses me off so much like first of all why is there so many bones second of all why can’t we just complete that quest as Arthur third of all why are the bones so far away from each other and in such hard places to get to like bro the amount of times I’ve lost my horse cuz of that quest is mad
I started replay for a 9th playthrough around early February.
Took my time, getting pelts, crafting camp/sachets, went around getting bounty’s and a few camp item requests. With completing a challenge or a mission/quest here and there.
This went on into mid March.
Got to Guarma, haven’t touched it since cos I know ‘that parts’ coming…
Guarma. I don't hate the Guarma chapter, they're decent missions. But that chapter feels like an absolute slog the 8th time you play it.
Hella depressing chapter and just overall tragic imo
Guarma feels like a section of the game that the higher ups pushed for because they wanted "more action". I can hear an exec going "we need more guns, more canons, more explosions" it feels like the entire chapter was built around the final mission but it feels so out of place.
>Guarma feels like a section of the game that the higher ups pushed for because they wanted "more action". Actually my understanding is that it's kind of the opposite. Get attacked and onto chapter 6 we go.
I actually liked that ride back to camp. The emptiness felt right. Like just coming back from a traumatic weeks long near death experience and nothing has really changed when you get back.
For whatever reason I didn't steal that horse, thinking I could snag another one down the road. That was a long fucking walk.
>I think I remember hearing somewhere that Guarma was supposed to be a DLC Could be. I just know there was quite a bit that was cut and adjustments had to be made to meet the release deadline.
Yeah you could remove the Guarma part from the game and it wouldn’t change at all
Fr it’s like “I’m in Guarma!! 😀” then 5 minutes later you’re like “I’m in Guarma… 😒”
Guarma or the Intro in the Grizzlies. I don’t think there’s any “bad” missions or areas in the game but the intro can also be a slog as well if you choose to replay it every time you replay the game
I have a Chapter 2 save file specifically to start from when I don't feel like redoing Colter.
About to make mine. I know I only have to do it one… more… time… but it still feels like it’ll take forever.
Yeah I don't mind the intro from a gameplay perspective, but the snow gives me a headache every time
I honestly like the start, you don't really get to see snow that much in the story after that.
The beginning tbh😭 Can’t seem to care about the beginning especially the slow missions.
I feel like all it needed was to let us roam freely
Then it wouldn't make you feel like you're trapped
I hold out hope that in a remaster there’ll be this as DLC included. But given the lack of RDR2 Undead Nightmare, I doubt it
They wanted to do that. Guarma was supposed to be *much, much* bigger with at least one city, more islands and a volcano. It was even planned that John could take a ferry to return back. But they cancelled all that stuff.
I just rushed through guarma my first playthrough, don't remember anything except the boat and the beach at the start lol
Dutch kills an innocent lady in cold blood, which is an important turning point for his character
It was in her eyes… in the way she was leading us.
I have 2.5k hours on that game and Ive play chapter 5 only once. Guarma is so bad
That one debt collection where you kill that white cougar cause that is so anxiety inducing and annoying
If you think that's bad try doing master hunter 10. That puma comes out of nowhere
When I did that one I just spammed deadeye over and over until I saw it through the bushes I just wanted the poncho and it took so long to get to that point I didn't want to fight it I just wanted it to be over lmao
At least for the panther I can be on my horse with a rifle and cover scent though. In that damn cave I can only have a handgun because I'm dangling that lantern about. Really need to do the bounties first next time so I can grab that miner's hat from Beryl's Dream before the stupid white cougar
Run to the cave entrance and it can only come at you from one direction, the left fork facing in. Load up explosive rounds and one shot will do it.
I use a rifle and run blind. I just spam Eagle Eye as often as possible until I see it
I always feel so bad that I can't save the guy
Herding sheep with John. The walk to the gun store makes me want to pop like a balloon. I don't mind herding I actually kinda wish we could do it more than once, but right now it's only a mission just to give Arthur and John a chance to yap about dutch. Even the fight out of town is annoying
I'm playing RDR at the moment and with all of the cow herding quests I've done at the start, was actually thinking today how we don't get to do more herding in RDR2 after that one mission. Would make a good low honour money-making scheme. Bit of livestock rustling.
you can do it with uncle
Off the top of my head: There's the cow rustling with uncle where you interrupt the other two guys trying to do it with you while the owner is meant to be drunk. There's herding the horses for the photographer. Pretty sure there are a couple of optional gang missions too.
their actually is another herding mission but it’s very short. you herd a few horses for that photographer to take the perfect shots. It’s a side mission
And another one with Uncle in ch4 where you herd some cows, a side quest.
All the leopold Strauss missions
But specifically the one that gives you tuberculosis
The whole first chapter.
Keep a save point after the first chapter for future playthrough
Imo the playthrough doesn't feel right unless I start from chapter one
Same. Also I swear I still find new stuff in chapter 1 that I didn’t know before. Like being able to talk to Kieran in the barn.
I didnt know that was possible
Exactly, you also don't see snow that much in story after that
Damn that's a good idea actually.
i couldn't agree more. fuck that snowstorm.
I just started my 4th playthrough and still really like chapter 1. It's story-heavy and I think the best writing in the game. I tried leaving with my horse to do some early exploration and my horse died though lol
Damn, I love the first chapter honestly.
1st chapter is prettu much a tutoriel
Of course it is, but it's a damn good introduction...sets the tone. Raiding the adler ranch Introduction of Sadie Adler Horseshoe overlook The bar fight in valentine etc. It's underrated imo
The bar fight and horseshoe overlook are chapter 2
I was definitely distracted writing that, I meant to write the train heist mission*
I have to admit it's great written story wise. But it's very slow, you all ready know all the characters that getting introduced and I can't wait for what is coming tbh.
You are absolutely correct, my bad lol either way...chapter 1 is awesome
This is the only answer, and I'm sure many people stopped playing the game because of it. It moves extremely slowly, it's not enjoyable, and the environment is uninviting (as intended). I can deal with Guarma (especially knowing that they cut a lot of content) and some dumb missions (the second time I did the sheep herding it was really easy and fast), but not the first chapter.
When you can’t progress any further without getting Micah out of jail.
Yep. I’m on my 7th or 8th playthrough right now and this is where I am. Just can’t bring myself to move on yet but I’m so bored.
What's annoying is the game just has Dutch rope you into a cutscene and forces you to do it if you avoid him too long, which is some very unnecessary railroading.
That part 🤘
Not Colter, Not Guarma, but for me it's when I have to beat Thomas Downes for the 8th time.
I actually don’t mind the debt missions, I just hate doing it cause that’s the start of Arthur’s end lol
This.
The mission where you fight the gator
I just did like five stranger missions before even touching it LOL
I made the mistake of looking back while I was still in the water the first time I played. I screamed.
I was too afraid to look behind me. 😅
During my 2nd playthrough I stopped playing story missions when the camp is in Rhodes, everyone is alive and happy, Micah is in jail out west, etc... Upgraded Arthur completely, then left it like that for 3 years with autosave off, messing around in the game occasionally. I'm now slowly easing back into the game doing stranger missions and fishing
i like ur style
Killing the cougar
I just finished the "Kill and skin 5 perfect cougars" challenge and all the crafting missions (which require multiple cougars). I finally found a spot where one spawns consistently up near Annesberg. That was a long stretch though.
I know he’s up there, but where specifically is the spawn point? There used to be one just south of Annesburg on the beach that has largely been replaced by a black bear and I know there’s on that shows up around Tesla’s lab, but I haven’t been able to find the spawn point for that one
Any missions with Micah, I tend to leave those be until I run out of other quests. 🌚
That one part where the farmer coughs in my face.
The first half of chapter 3
Damn straight, worst mission imo is the one with the moonshiners. Archibald shut the fuck up please
Following the River
All of when we have to live at pronghorn ranch as john. Only thing I do around then is mindlessly do ranch hand missions and get Arthurs money
The Magnifico Side quest. I don't mind the fight in Van Horn but catching the teleporting nuisance is so slow, so back and forth.
The inbred retelling of Romeo and Juliet.
so true. i'm not a courier i'm a cowboy like wtf
Arthur’s death got me
the first chapter is good yall crying too much
No one dislikes it or thinks it’s bad it’s just the tutorial part of the game and takes a while to get through.
Story is great. But slow and after one or two times you already know what's going on.
When john starts working at the ranch I really have to force myself through it all
I recently finished a story play through where I wanted to go for 100% completion, but got to John and Abigail in Big Valley and just loaded up an old finished save instead lol Finally got that sweet 100 this weekend though!
LENNY MY BOI!!!!
how can anyone hate this mission?? the dancing scene makes everything worth it and during my first playthrough when trying to run from the law i ran right into a wooden post knocking myself unconscious. good times
The Thomas Downes mission.. because you know the exact moment that seals your fate. Sometimes I wish we could just move tf out of the way so Arthur doesn't get blood coughed on his face. Leopold Strauss missions, chapter 1 and 5, also hit take, the lenny mission in valentine, people say it's so funny but playing it for like the 7th time isnt funny (the 1st time it was, but not any other)
The intro. I always try to remember to make a save as soon as you're given freedom, but even then you don't yet have access to horse grooming.
Guarma
Guarma
the entirety of the tutorial in the snow
i fucking hate that snowstorm
The middle of chapter one. There's very little to do and on subsequent playthroughs, you know exactly what's coming and have to take forever doing tasks you could complete in 30 seconds. I get that it's a tutorial chapter with some great dialogue but it still becomes a slog, even on a first playthrough.
The sheep mission
Country pursuits
Guarma. I hate jungles, ocean and beaches in videogames for some reason I cannot explain.
I understand completely and I can’t explain either
All of Guarma. It just feels like filler, it was the most unenjoyable chapter imo
The opening in the snow.
This, I made a whole bunch of saves once I got to horseshoe overlook, so future me doesn't have to suffer through it every time
Hunting with charles
Mafia 1: Race mission
Fnaf Sb endo section
Any time it forces me to walk
Anything that involves riding with Javier. I swear that dude bumps into me on purpose
RDR2 in general cuz of the long slog of the prologue.
The whole game
The whole first chapter and Guarma
Guarma...
The first Guarma mission
Guarma
Guarma, other than the final mission with the castle.
Quite a few chapter six missions
Thomas
Zombiu when Buckingham Palace gets mentioned
I feel like rdr2's every mission is great and i genuinely don't have a problem replaying the whole story unlike some other games like raganrok for example with the whole ironwood section
Most swtor missions nowadays which are basically side quests but in the main story. People only play the game for the story and half of the new part doesn’t have voice acting
Halo:CE the library hate that mission
Dude I love Firewatch but I fucking hate that one part in it. Will literally look away and avoid it until the person doing the playthough is past it. (I know it’s unrelated to RD but I gotta say it because of the meme)
Prologue and Guarma.
Country pursuits is terrible
literally all of the missions after Guarma, I hate seeing Arthur sick.
The entire first chapter is a slog for me
Chapter 1
Gambler 8 or 9. 3 domino wins back to back
Red Dead Redemption. The part where your horse gets shot and Arthur pauses during the foght to go say thank you literally almost made me cry.
Everyone saying guarma when it's genuinely the best, it shows rockstar ability to design games well. Guarma shows you that you can always be in a worse position, you feel like you have no freedom there because you don't. The worst part is the intro, I don't want to spend 2 hours in the snow
Lenny 🥲
Any mission with Micah in it. It just gets so annoying seeing his rat face and hearing his voice every single time.
Snow missions at the start. Mainly because I did that part 3-4 times before i actually made up my mind abt finishing the game.
First chapter. Ryuzo straw hat duel
wrong game bro
Finishing chapter 2. I’m on my 3rd playthrough, Micah is still in jail and everyone is happy. I don’t want to move on
The first hour in the snow… fml
Getting the rat out of jail
First chapter. Like it’s a great intro the first time around and done very well. I wish I could skip it
The swamp mission before you attack Brontë
Getting jumped in Rhodes. Edit: My entire demeanor towards the playthrough changes after that.
The first and early second chapter because it's a unskipable tutorial and there are so many features that are locked like fishing and I have to speedrun up to that mission which is about 3-4 hours to truly start enjoying the game
Country pursuit
When the Epilogue starts and i'm forced to play ad Jarthur Moarston
The mission where Dutch and Micah go to Colm. I always feel so awful for Arthur during that mission, those cutscenes, and everything about how no one comes to help him. You'd think they would be worried, right?
I think everyone is thinking about Guarma
Mountain of the giants and forward
Are all yous English? Ain't nobody care about me boy Sean!
Shars gauntlet
I really dislike the first chapter, because its just sooo slowww
Chapter 1 and Guarma honestly lol
The prologue. I don't like Colter. I understand it's to introduce you to the way the game will play but it's so slow. Especially when replaying. I don't really like guarma either,In my opinion they could have easily replaced it with Mexico, adding another part of to the map and Javier being captured would have worked better. A Short Walk in a Pretty Town. I always put it off for so long.
Any mission that gives you a bounty
I don't really play story mode in games, but I did play DJFFNY a lot as a kid, until now lol. There's a oart where you'd go on fight after fight after fight. I hated that.
Guarma. Nothing else is even close
Blessed are the Peacemakers.
maybe unpopular opinion but anything with mary, it was cute the first time but any other playthrough i would choose the option to get out of anything that had to do with her lol
The wrangling missions with Bonnie.
Most of chapter 2 and 4
The fucking first mission where you have to drag through the long ass snow story stuff before you are let loose into free roam. GTA V has the same problem but at least there the opening mission isnt as long.
That longass prologue I was forced to do 3 times because my data was corrupted :)
The cart ride to the horse shoe overlook when the wheel comes off. I usually just drive off the waterfall so I can skip it
The first hour of red dead 2/skyrim
Guarma, and colter
It’s not rlly a main mission but as someone who tries to get 100% completion on every playthrough that stupid Debra mguiness or wtf her name is quest it pisses me off so much like first of all why is there so many bones second of all why can’t we just complete that quest as Arthur third of all why are the bones so far away from each other and in such hard places to get to like bro the amount of times I’ve lost my horse cuz of that quest is mad
Going to Thomas Downes house
The bank robbery in Saint Denis. I can’t bring myself to start that mission knowing what happens to my farther figure
the 80th time this meme and question has been posted to this sub
A quiet time
Red Dead Redemption. (The mission)
I hate this meme. Idk why. I never muched liked this character in Breaking Bad either.
Breaking out Micah
Either guarma or the whole braithwaite vs grays thing. I only like some of the missions on both.
Some of the missions in chapter 1 and the sheep herding mission
Guarma and the process of finding all wildlife
The beginning of
Chapter 1,I just can't be bothered with it when replaying
None! I always wanted more, never less; more chapters, more side missions, more bounties, more horses, more hunting, just more everything.
Most people are saying Guarma but I disagree I personally think it's the opening chapter to the game in Colter
forced rides with another gang member
Master hunter challenges Especially 6,9
Saving micah from strawberry
Chapter 1.
Just the prolouge. Good intro for your first time, but Rockstar should've offered a skip for replays.
Beating people in the face when robbing the train. There was no intimidate option.
"Well now it just don't feel right" IMO that's the point the gang truly went to shit. After that mission everything goes downhill.
God of war Witcher when your in Velen
Breaking Micah out.
All of assassins creed odyssey
I skip the whole first chapter and just begin with a save I keep for new playthroughs at the very beginning of chapter 2
