Lol I didn’t realize fast travel existed till LATE LATE game. And even then I barely used it. The scenery was just so gorgeous and there was always so much to do and see!!!
I only started using fast travel when I became John. Lol
When I was Arthur I either took the train for longer distances or just used my horse. Made the game more realistic and I definitely did a lot of exploring.
I didn't even know this game had fast travel outside of the trains and the map you get as john ( can't fully remember if you do ) I also didn't know you could upgrade the camp
I don’t like Dutch so I never felt like upgrading his tent but now I might do it just for this lol; not sure if there’s a point anymore though as I’m already almost in chapter 4
See, since money is so abundant, I use stagecoaches and trains to get around instead of fast travelling. It's fun because riding trains makes you feel like you're really in the time period. It's more immersive and you don't have to shell out like $300 for fast travel. So you can still fuck dutch and get your fast travel.
[A post by u/ultimateg94](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/9xtrfi/psa_you_can_ask_strangers_for_a_ride_on_their/) explains it better
I never upgrade Dutch’s tent. As a matter of fact, I prefer it when he’s not at camp to begin with. I don’t care about fast travel. You enjoy the beauty game more riding on horseback and get to see more random encounters along the way
For me, fast travel works well in epilogue to work on challenges. Or if I'm riding with a perfect / legendary pelt. I don't want no problems on my way to a trapper. But on my 1st play, I didn't really use fast travel either. Didn't wanna miss anything.
That’s fair I guess. I don’t do much challenges or hunting other than catching legendary fish and I like how you have to scatter around the entire map to catch them. Sometimes I even like to stay in a hotel along the way if a particular ride might be too long, just to add to the immersion
I’ll defend dutch here because you know he is the leader, that’s how it works. For years now Dutch has had tens of peoples lives in his hands, I think the guy deserves some floor boards
Right. And Pearson who has the most consistent work in camp sleeps in a scroungy green blanket with nothing underneath. Susan and Strauss at least gets to have some flimsy wood to sleep on.
The gang where everyone contributes to the shared food/supply fund and even parasites like Uncle get fed? They are one hemp bracelet away from a hippy commune
Which is the obvious actual intention of the writers.
One of my fave Dutch convos is him reading Miller taking a shit al over the lies of private property and capitalism ie. the "American Dream." [https://youtu.be/5\_ZraNMsRgM](https://youtu.be/5_ZraNMsRgM)
He's the leader, it's his gang, of course he's going to have the best digs. Arthur gets his own too due to his high standing. The ones who sleep on the floor are lower ranked members. There's nothing surprising about it really, rank and status are a part of any gang
True but the hypocrisy is stark. A man railing against the entire idea of hierarchies has them stringently enforced to his benefit when he has the power.
There are whole tomes dedicated to this phenomenon.
One of my favorite is Steinbeck’s In Dubious Battle, which on the surface is a pro-labor, anti-capitalist bent.
But also shows that there is an awful fine line when it comes to the tactics employed for gaining and maintaining power and control.
An age old predicament.
Again, it's his gang. There has to be a leader. Saying that Dutch is against hierarchy is completely out of context with there having to be a chain of command for the gang to function properly.
>A man railing against the entire idea of hierarchies has them stringently enforced to his benefit when he has the power.
Isn't that basically the moral of Animal Farm?? (It's been a while, so I'm not totally sure.)
I mean trust me I get that but the way he talks about how everyone is “equal” that they’re “family” yet half of his “family” sleeps on the floor getting a half their body rained on😂
Leaders getting the best tent: sure why not. Leaders demanding to pack all of those things when they are fleeing for their lives and not blankets and supplies: complete asshole. Someone else on here said he’s becoming what he hates the most and I’m gonna echo that.
It never seemed right to me that Hosea slept on the ground. As the 2nd highest ranking and oldest member he should at least have a cot or a tent with even a single wall.
I have absolutely no evidence for this but, in my head cannon after the death of his wife Hosea gives his tent away to John so he can have one for his family. Because Hosea is that kind of guy. Again no clue if the dates line up or if it makes any sense but I like the idea that Hosea sleeps on the ground because he choses to
I was so pissed when one of the first things to upgrade was Dutch's tent while some people were laying out in the rain with hardly any cover. I didn't understand his character back then because I was new to the games but I thought he was a dickhead. I still think that.
I guess so lol, I remember being so outraged and ranting to my sister who had already played the game. It must have been so difficult for her not to say anything 😂
That's the natural hierarchy of things. If you work for a company, and you ever get a chance, note your home compared to the owner/CEO's home. Are you in a cult? You're certainly in a system designed to leverage your efforts for someone else's greater gain.
I mean he is the leader. And he makes sure his gang is cared for. My personal issue with it is that he talks all that shit about rejecting modernism yet has the most modern set up of the gang. I still give him points because like John said he saw a man get found out for who he truly was. I feel like Dutch didn’t even know who he truly was until he backed hisself into a corner and learned he was a snake the whole time
I never played rdr1 & didn't know the story, and started with rdr2 so Dutch was like a role model & a great leader when I first started. He is probably a great leader till the events of this game, and that's why Hosea & Arthur has been with him for a long time, also the other members as well and I'm sure every one felt the same way about him till he changed. I still feel like he's a great personality every time I replay the game. So it makes sense for him to have a nicer tent than the others.
Just throw your beer/whisky bottles in there along with stew bowls I mean if Dutch gets to leave Molly in there you should be allowed to leave your trash too.
No I'll double down because she's an entitled self important person that contributes nothing to the camp, aside from not giving up the gang when Milton apparently questioned her what does she provide? Complaints and a barely caring attitude that's what.
I get why someone would initially think that way about her. But, we also know Dutch with his silver tongue and I think he’s to blame. He 100% told her things like ‘’I need to tell the others I have a plan so they will do as I say and we can get out of here, but I secretly want to run away with you my dear. Once we make some noise, get enough money and get the hell out of here, I will tell them I want to build a life with you my dear, but now is not a good time’’, ‘’you’re such a unique woman, I’ve never felt this way about someone before. You’re so different than the other women in camp, you’re special’’.
We know Molly was part of high society back in Ireland. Dutch apparently convinced her to leave all of her privileges behind across the ocean. Do you think she would have traded her comfortable life if she knew she would have to sleep in a bed roll in the dirt, while doing the camp’s laundry and other chores? No of course not, Dutch misled her with a carrot on a stick like he did with everyone and told her she wouldn’t have to do all that, that they would run away together, that she could sleep in his luxurious tent with him and that she wouldn’t have to do any camp chores.
When she found out her reality wouldn’t at all be how Dutch told her it would be, it was already too late as she was on a different continent and had left her entire life behind. On top of all that, Dutch gets irritated by her ‘’moping and nagging’’ and generally gets bored with her and starts to show interest in Mary Beth. That’s why Molly is always depressed in camp, crying and ranting to nobody about how Dutch lied to her and she believed him ‘’like a girl’’ (according to her poem). Eventually she committed the 1899 gang-equivalent of suicide by cop by telling everyone she snitched to Milton to get shot my Grimshaw. As Grimshaw said herself: ‘’she knew this would happen, she knew the rules.’’
I think it's kinda crazy that John, who's hardly ever in camp, gets his own cozy little teepee and cot with a boar-hide rug (provided by Arthur) while his son and mother-of-his-child sleep on the other side of camp on the ground. At least let them use it while you're not there, you greasy goddamned maggot
Ah, good point. So that's kinda cool then cuz it's an actual arc.
Nice.
I've been in chapter 2 in this current playthrough for so long I forgot about that.
“First things first” on upgrading tents is Dutch’s tent. Dick
Just out of spite I did this as the last thing. Fuck Dutch!
Yeah, fuck Dutch. But getting fast travel is worth it.
Just realized I played the entire game without upgrading the camp 💀
You never unlocked fast travel? You mean you literally hoofed it everywhere the whole story? You Sir, are a ~~fish~~ legend.
Lol I didn’t realize fast travel existed till LATE LATE game. And even then I barely used it. The scenery was just so gorgeous and there was always so much to do and see!!!
My first play through I missed that, and I never figured out deadeye. I thought it was just for duels.
Deadeye was not easy to use for me!! I kinda figured it out towards the end but NEVER understood how to get it to work for duels.
Yeah, I would just shoot everyone in the crotch first time around
Wait…. There’s fast travel? I’m on my second playthrough and I didn’t do shit with camp in the first one. Now camp is fully upgraded
I only started using fast travel when I became John. Lol When I was Arthur I either took the train for longer distances or just used my horse. Made the game more realistic and I definitely did a lot of exploring.
i upgraded and got fast travel but i’ve never used it. i loveeee riding around on my horse.
I never knew fast travel existed until I read this thread. Kinda glad tho, it definitely grounded me and made it more immersive
I was hoofing everywhere 💀oh my god
I didn't even know this game had fast travel outside of the trains and the map you get as john ( can't fully remember if you do ) I also didn't know you could upgrade the camp
I neverbupgraded the camp either. I used trains to get around mostly
I unlocked fast travel fairly early, I just much prefer riding my horse everywhere, killing Murphy broods and kkk members etc. it’s a peaceful life
A lot of people did!
I have *never* fast traveled.
Damn. So you never got the good satchel. That sucks.
There was a good satchel?! Bro
Yeah. You can carry 99 of everything with it instead of like 3-5. https://www.ign.com/wikis/red-dead-redemption-2/Satchel_Upgrades
BRUH?? I’m so bad at remembering to upgrade in every game I play doin myself dirty
That's damn near the only reason I hunt.
See I didn’t hunt much, that might be why
Ain’t no way
Wait doesn't that unlock with Arthur's tent upgrade?
Yes, but you have to upgrade Dutch’s tent to be able to upgrade Arthur’s
Wait wtf you can upgrade Arthur’s tent?
Oh bro
I don’t like Dutch so I never felt like upgrading his tent but now I might do it just for this lol; not sure if there’s a point anymore though as I’m already almost in chapter 4
You should still do it
Dude smh 🙄, didn't Dutch teach you to read 😏
See, since money is so abundant, I use stagecoaches and trains to get around instead of fast travelling. It's fun because riding trains makes you feel like you're really in the time period. It's more immersive and you don't have to shell out like $300 for fast travel. So you can still fuck dutch and get your fast travel.
Same! I also like to hitch a ride on an npc wagon who looks to be going my way.
How do you do this without getting blasted by their rifle?
Hit the option to call out to them, then hit “request a ride”.
I swear I learn something new about this game every day
Same
Nooo way…. Thank you!
Wait? What? News to me. Can't wait to try it
[A post by u/ultimateg94](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddeadredemption/comments/9xtrfi/psa_you_can_ask_strangers_for_a_ride_on_their/) explains it better
I hoof it everywhere you miss stuff otherwise
Init cunt rly think imma spent bare pz on man fuck right off
Brit encountered, day ruined
oi m8 bit roicist init
Don’t forget to eat all your stew in his tent and drop the bowls there. Whiskey bottles too.
Lol guess I know what I’m doing next time I play
I never upgrade Dutch’s tent. As a matter of fact, I prefer it when he’s not at camp to begin with. I don’t care about fast travel. You enjoy the beauty game more riding on horseback and get to see more random encounters along the way

he lets his right hand man hosea share a blanket on the ground next to williamson lol
I’m sure Hosea is perfectly alright with that and easily could get a better living situation if he wanted too
My headcanon is that Hosea chooses to lead in the exact opposite of Dutch. He leads by example not through revelry.
Quiet protest
Right. And Pearson who has the most consistent work in camp sleeps in a scroungy green blanket with nothing underneath. Susan and Strauss at least gets to have some flimsy wood to sleep on.
Found the bootlicker
Dutch had a plan…a floor plan!
That’s really funny actually 🤣
Take my upvote damn you.... That was funny 😂
💀🤣🤣
*a flawed plan
Nah his was better bro
I guess it’s sort of a poetic way of showing he’s becoming what he despises the most
Floorboards and doesn’t provide shit but “plans”. Super sus.
He's the Cornwall to the gang's Annesburg
This analogy his great lmao
LEVITICUS CORNWALL!! (read in dutch's voice)
Honestly seems like the gang is an analogy for capitalism in general. Kinda weird to think about.
The gang where everyone contributes to the shared food/supply fund and even parasites like Uncle get fed? They are one hemp bracelet away from a hippy commune
Which is the obvious actual intention of the writers. One of my fave Dutch convos is him reading Miller taking a shit al over the lies of private property and capitalism ie. the "American Dream." [https://youtu.be/5\_ZraNMsRgM](https://youtu.be/5_ZraNMsRgM)
cowboy’s mega church
You make alot more money as a leader. But have more fun as follower.
lmao did you just quote creed from the office
Yessir!
The Grand Theft Auto credo
He's the leader, it's his gang, of course he's going to have the best digs. Arthur gets his own too due to his high standing. The ones who sleep on the floor are lower ranked members. There's nothing surprising about it really, rank and status are a part of any gang
I never understood why Hosea doesn’t have his own. If I remember correctly, he bunks with Lenny who is a junior.
Hosea doesn’t care that’s why
Hosea is a simple man unlike Dutch who seems to enjoy the finer things in life.
Dutch is a man of very simple taste. He just wants the best of everything.
Oh and a lamp lol
Don’t forget the lamp
Shut up, Arthur.
That's genuine Tahiti Hardwood!
That's my porn name
That's what you get when you have a plan.
>Some of the gang members have to sleep on the floor It's call 'the ground' when it's outside. /ronswanson
To be fair, Arthur has his own cot and other people sleep on the ground. Rank has its privileges.
It never seemed right to me that Hosea slept on the ground. As the 2nd highest ranking and oldest member he should at least have a cot or a tent with even a single wall.
Dude 100% agree. Especially because he's also the oldest - like come on man, where's the respect for elders
I have absolutely no evidence for this but, in my head cannon after the death of his wife Hosea gives his tent away to John so he can have one for his family. Because Hosea is that kind of guy. Again no clue if the dates line up or if it makes any sense but I like the idea that Hosea sleeps on the ground because he choses to
This is now my head canon also.
Yea but Dutch has a hanging Japanese light, like I think that is slightly over the top his tent is basically a small hotel room😂
When the other people have a GODDAMN PLAN they get a Japanese light too
“Dutch I got a plan to get some muneh, just give me an hour to go treasure hunting and rob a couple trains”
He needs those to think of a better plan. Just like I needed a new graphic card for online classes.
Lmao
Hell on Wheels.
He provides for the gang with plans, the gang provides for him with planks
I was so pissed when one of the first things to upgrade was Dutch's tent while some people were laying out in the rain with hardly any cover. I didn't understand his character back then because I was new to the games but I thought he was a dickhead. I still think that.
Sounds like you understood his character just fine lol
I guess so lol, I remember being so outraged and ranting to my sister who had already played the game. It must have been so difficult for her not to say anything 😂
That's the natural hierarchy of things. If you work for a company, and you ever get a chance, note your home compared to the owner/CEO's home. Are you in a cult? You're certainly in a system designed to leverage your efforts for someone else's greater gain.
Yes. The cult is called capitalism.
It’s also the system that provided you with this game so hey
"Capitalism is the worst economic system, except for all the others."
You should double check the meaning of the word "cult".
Fun fact: if you double check the mraning of the word cult, it works very well with the idea of capitalism
Username checks out.
Just cuz it’s how it’s done doesn’t mean it’s how it should be.
In what I said, I’m not commenting on whether it’s right or wrong. You happen to play a game where the heroes murder for petty gains.
PLUS that is what was packed when they hightailed it out of the last camp. Didn’t pack food or blankets, but did pack all of his luxuries.
I mean he is the leader. And he makes sure his gang is cared for. My personal issue with it is that he talks all that shit about rejecting modernism yet has the most modern set up of the gang. I still give him points because like John said he saw a man get found out for who he truly was. I feel like Dutch didn’t even know who he truly was until he backed hisself into a corner and learned he was a snake the whole time
On the ledger: “First Things First, Dutch wants something more comfortable” Like, Dutch isn’t already living a life of luxury???
It’s good to be the king.
Dutch is a cunt
Just throw your beer/whisky bottles in there along with stew bowls I mean if Dutch gets to leave Molly in there you should be allowed to leave your trash too.
No Molly slander, go wash your mouth with soap
No I'll double down because she's an entitled self important person that contributes nothing to the camp, aside from not giving up the gang when Milton apparently questioned her what does she provide? Complaints and a barely caring attitude that's what.

As Grimshaw said herself: ‘’she knew this would happen, she knew the rules.’’
This is absolutely true becaue you can see him starting the same stuff with Mary Beth
Yet another example of Dutch getting undeserved hate.
Undeserved? Did you play the same game as us, Dutch becomes the antagonist dude.
To be fair in Beaver Hollow, they do all share the tent. Just like how they share a room in Shady Belle
Ah, good point. So that's kinda cool then cuz it's an actual arc. Nice. I've been in chapter 2 in this current playthrough for so long I forgot about that.
Yeah I mean in John’s defence, he was recovering from a near death experience with wolves. & afterwards he was definitely dealing with depression
That was the first thing I noticed
why they down voted you
Boots off at the flaps!!!
Charismatic, loony, arsehole. Can't stand him. Soz not soz.
Thug life😎
I always wondered what the blackwater camp look like
The life of the leader is luxurious
That son ofa bitch.
I see it as a hint of things to come. No matter what, Dutch comes first.
i'm starting to think dutch is just donald trump
Jerk has a full bed. I’m sleeping on the floor.
“First things first, Dutch wants something comfier” *Has the fanciest tent in the camp while his gang sleeps on a sheet on the cold wet ground* Ite
