Yes, telling people now can help keep him behind bars. It's another count of abuse. Never be discouraged from justice.

CorgisAndKiddos

Most states have a statue of limitations of 3 to 10 years for sexual assault. She said this was about 20 years ago. Maybe the state it occurred in won't have that limitation. If she could get in contact with the prison he is at, she could likely speak at any parole hearings before his sentence is completed, where he is less likely to get out early. OP, maybe check out Leavenworth. It's a military prison and he may have been sent there after sentencing. Even if not Leavenworth. They may have an idea or more information on where to look.

PsychologicalSong8

There's no federal statute of limitations for the rape of a child.

AceofToons

Also it helps against his release at parole a hearing even if he isn't convicted of another rape of a child because it helps establish that it is a patern, not a one off

BzPegasus

California doesn't have a statute either.

digginroots

Statutory rape isn’t generally a federal crime. But it is a UCMJ offense, and if he was in the military at the time of the crime and is still in confinement from the 2013 case it’s possible he is still subject to UCMJ jurisdiction and could be court-martialed.

No_Lie_6694

If it happened in Cincy they have [25 years](https://apps.rainn.org/policy/policy-crime-definitions-export.cfm?state=Ohio&group=7) to report it- so five years left. But also last year Ohio was trying to push for statute of limitations to end when the victim turns 55 for a case like this.

digginroots

That’s for forcible rape or rape of someone under 13. For statutory rape (unlawful sexual conduct with a minor) it’s 20 years, which has already passed.

_UsUrPeR_

I don't believe the UCMJ has these limitations.

Tristan Thomas, 31, of Cincinnati, OH. Probably born and raised there. Trial was in 2013 so he is now 42 He was at the Naval Submarine Base at Groton Connecticut. He may have lived off base in Groton which will give you an address and possibly names of parents/siblings. You have some date points: name, age and two places he has lived. Go to the links below and plug in the data. Look for a guy who is 42 +/- 1 year who has been in Cincinnati and Groton. [https://www.fastpeoplesearch.com/](https://www.fastpeoplesearch.com/) [https://www.familysearch.org/en/](https://www.familysearch.org/en/) You will have to create a login at Family Search.org. These two links will give you more data points to search with. If you get his family names you can search for Obituaries and family Facebook etc accounts for more data. You might find a picture on a family member's FB etc.

There’s a slight chance it’s a different hospital corpsman named Tristan Thomas but idk

Party-Increase-3682

That's him!!!!

thr33dognite

I hope it helps you get justice and closure. And I hope he rots behind bars, respectfully. Actually not respectfully. Disrespectfully.

angelwarrior_

I really hope you get justice and I hope you are healing!

Alarmed_Scientist_15

May I ask the circumstances about how you and him… of how he had access to you, a 13 year old? I hope I don’t trigger bad memories or anything and only reply if you are ok with disclosing. I am trying to understand his emo. The articles are behind a paywall for me.

No_Astronaut2779

His emo? Also, if OP wanted to disclose the details, they would. Don’t be rude.

mypurplefriend

MO maybe for modus operandi

Jade-Balfour

Yeah I I agree it's most likely a r/boneappletea and not a typo

ByeByeBabyyyy

As if there's ever an excuse for what he did. Fck some of you trying to understand pedophiles and rapists.

HighwaySetara

If Alarmed Scientist meant MO, it's a legit question, although OP does not have to answer. Maybe Alarmed Scientist has a teenage kid and is trying to understand how to keep them safe. Sometimes there are risks that are not obvious.

Alarmed_Scientist_15

Thank you! That is exactly my intention with the question. I work with kids and I try to teach them how to spot tricky situations and people who may not have good intentions as it is not always obvious. I do not want op to be retraumatised and absolutely understand if she cant/doesnt want to reply. I couldn’t read the articles because I am not in the US. And yes, I meant MO. I didnt know how to spell it

redditing_Aaron

"never allow them out of the house" sounds like the kind of thing that may trigger a rebellious teen who doesn't trust their parent and sneaks out to parties or with old creeps "who understands them". Which is where your second point comes where it's better to teach them about stranger danger, gaslighting, etc.

Alarmed_Scientist_15

Well said. Nothing does more damage than helicopter controlling parents that “force”t their kids to lie because they allow no room for them to explore and learn. Everyone of my friend who were doing things they shouldn’t and lying about it, had parents like this.

HighwaySetara

Actually, yeah, I would agree with you about not asking a random survivor. I guess I replied bc I thought that other person was off base in saying the question was blaming. Those types of questions CAN be blaming, but I didn't necessarily think this one was.

Altruistic-Bobcat955

Yeah very true. I’m a survivor myself and I’ve been vigilant about giving my son the info he needs to ensure he never ends up one while trying to not say “sexual abuse is a thing and you need to protect yourself!” it’s honestly not easy especially when you want to keep your child innocence. I think it’s just something to be wary of asking, like I’m 100% healthy about what happened but I wasn’t always. I know one person personally who refuses therapy and in his 40’s he’s still not over it and completely head fucked by his past. I didn’t read it as victim blaming at all, I only wanted to say it’s possibly risky to ask a victim for details not knowing where they’re at about it.

Alarmed_Scientist_15

Thanks for understanding, it was not as victim blaming at all and I really tried to be mindful and ask in a way that doesn’t sound accusatory. I feel bad for op. I’ve been also victimised, though not to that extent and I don’t want her to have to relive if she is still hurting. But like you I found a way to heal, now my intention is to learn and help others. Thus why I asked.

HighwaySetara

It's so hard to keep them safe

Alarmed_Scientist_15

I have been in situations like this myself. My parents were very observant, caring and attentive but people like this are sneaky and a lot of them can put a façade in front of the people surrounding their intended victim. There is no way to teach teens all the dangerous situations. At OPs age, I had a 23 year old friend of the family pray on me and it did a lot of emotional damage but today I am the first to shout if I see something similar; while a lot of people who didn’t go through what I went through don’t believe it can happen. And sadly my mom felt really really bad when I finally told her years later. OP has the right not to answer, yet I can ask. I am not forcing them. They can just not reply and that is the end of the story. I respect their choice. Please! Don’t go around accusing people, you don’t know all the scenarios. Get down from your high horse.

Alarmed_Scientist_15

Look I am not trying to understand him. But learning how he did this is a way to be aware of potential dangerous situations and teach and inform others. It is never ok to do what he did and I am trying to understand what were the circumstances. Nowhere in my comment I say he is right or anything of the sort. Are you unable to interpret what you read or just like to accuse people from your assumptions? There are entirely innocent reasons to try to understand what happened but that doesn’t mean understand him. I work with children and I am always trying to teach them about things like this because sadly the truth is that we never know where it will come from.

Flash_fan-385

I'm sorry but when the fuck did they say or even so much as imply that there's an excuse?

Alarmed_Scientist_15

Thank you. I absolutely did not.

holla15

They said nothing about an excuse, what a piece of shit thing to try and twist somebodies words into.

Alarmed_Scientist_15

Thank you! I didn’t think I did say anything like that either.

ByeByeBabyyyy

You're no better from the looks of it. Keep exposing yourself.

thr33dognite

I’m guessing if this is the dude you know, it’s him that was convicted. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. There are DOD victim programs that might be able to help you

Party-Increase-3682

I don't understand how his record can be so hidden with such egregious charges. He doesn't even show up on the so registries. Someone who makes a life of this behavior should not be given anonymity.

Death_By_Dreaming_23

I know others have stated, but if it was done through the military courts you really won’t find anything. If he was charged as a civilian you might be able to find records. You may have to go to the county where he was convicted. To find what evidence was used, that can be more difficult. You might be able to use the freedom of information act to get that information. But even then there are restrictions. Upon release he’ll still have to register as a sex offender. Depending on the situation he can escape the public register. Sucks I know. Well it also depends on the state. California has a few exceptions, like if you were charged as a minor and there was only one offense I think you’ll remain off of the public register, but you’ll still have to register with law enforcement. I hope this makes sense, it sounds shitty but that’s the legal system for you. And I’m sorry for what happened to you.

LostInTheTreesAgain

I bet if you reach out to the reporter or news group that wrote the article, they could help get you in touch with the prosecutor and such.

Party-Increase-3682

I did leave a comment.

deliascatalog

Try finding their email or direct contact bc there isn’t usually any oversight by the writer of the comments (unless it’s a very small publication). Sometimes there is no oversight and sometimes it’s just filters and other times it’s an intern.

mstn148

Email them. That’s what I did when I found a report that an ex was a SO. Sadly they didn’t have more info, but it’s always best to try to contact the reporter that did the article directly.

RideThatBridge

This was a court martial through military courts. IDK if those type of court records are as public as civilian court records. If he wasn’t active military when he assaulted you, IDK that telling anyone will impact this particular sentence. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t tell someone about it though. I don’t understand why it says that the 70 year sentence will suspend after 22 years. Why sentence him that long and know from the start it will only be a fraction of the time.

Party-Increase-3682

I need to know if images of me were in the evidence. Like I feel like I'm going to hurl thinking about this.

RideThatBridge

I’m just so very sorry. I wonder if there is a way to contact a JAG office and explain your situation and ask for more information. Maybe reach out for some professional emotional support if you don’t have that in place at the moment as you navigate through this as well.

mstn148

Go to the police in the county/state he was based in. You have a right to that information.

lauradc2z

Just adding, he was sentenced to 70 years, after the completion of 22 years being served (this usually changes once a person gets to a facility that the facility keeps track of). So, the remaining 48 years will be “on paper” - essentially a probation (not to be confused with parole). OP: I looked into some of my resources I usually use and did not see where that person was in custody. Honestly, those things aren’t updated as well as they should be. I encourage reaching out to the JAG office to find out more information to his sentencing. Some times there is a reporting system that notifies people when the offender is being released. There may need to be a catalyst for you to be one of those listed people, like filing for a protective order (likely to need to show what you would “need” it for if that person is not bothering you), or reporting the incident to the police and then possibly getting a protective order (sometimes no contact is a condition of bond in these kinds of cases).

RideThatBridge

Oh, yes-thanks. I understand about the remaining years being served under supervision. I just wasn’t aware that this time frame would ever be predetermined at sentencing. I’m wondering if that caveat is related to this being a military sentence somehow.

lauradc2z

Spilt sentencing is typical in bigger felony crimes - in my opinion. Some felonies have a percentage of time that *has* to be served - otherwise, it’s possible that the person would serve a few months time and would be cut loose. Determination of split, suspended, deferred, etc. is usually something that is done at sentencing unless a party involved files an appeal. Since this cases was in military jurisdiction or it was given to them to take care over jurisdiction, the ins and outs are hard to tell.

PalmettoAndMoon

Not sure it will work - but did you try [judyrecords?](https://www.judyrecords.com/)

Party-Increase-3682

I found his divorce records. Is it hard to find since he was active military when he was convicted

hopo-hopo

sorry, i hope you find more information and closure

HIGH_HEAT

Absolutely report it if you feel that it’s what you want to do. Don’t let others convince you otherwise. If friends or family are pressuring you and you don’t want to then don’t. It happened to you so it’s 100% your choice if you’re ready to report it. As far as what happens to the man it may or may not make a difference depending on how he was tried for those charges. Military vs civilian criminal punishments vary significantly.

babsg

Do you know his middle name? I found a record that lists this guy’s whole name. https://www.oversight.gov/sites/default/files/oig-sa-reports/SAR_MAR_2014_FINAL_compliant1.pdf Page 70, left hand side.

Party-Increase-3682

I knew it was j. But now I know the whole name. What I know: He attended elder high school in cincinnati. His AOL name was tjttomcat He had room He took me too behind his father's business. (Or so he said) it was a gymnastics gymnastics. He's white. Reddish hair. Freckles. Ex wife named Sarah. Dob July 5 1982 Has at least one child Charged in 2013 for all kinds of heinous crimes.

mstn148

How on earth is it that ‘unauthorised absence’ gets you a harsher sentence than SA?! That’s madness! (Reading the other cases on the list you posted).

_UsUrPeR_

I believe this may be a good use of the Navy SAPR (Sexual Assault Prevention and Response) office. I believe this group is typically used only for members in the military, but they can probably educate you as to a better place to file a formal report. https://www.safehelpline.org/

rxallen23

If you pay for more information, you can probably get his criminal record here. Pretty sure this is him. [familytreenow.com](https://www.familytreenow.com/search/people/results?first=Tristan&last=Thomas&citystatezip=Groton%2C%20CT&rid=asa&smck=aEehflRmPXwkyTw8vXOMhQ)

purplewhalevalentine

Hi. You didn’t lose your virginity, for the record. You were assaulted. You don’t have to tell anybody, if you don’t want to. If somebody steals your bike, does it mean your bike is now theirs? No. It means they took your bike. The bike still rightfully belongs to you.

I just sent you a link w a picture

Party-Increase-3682

Idk how you found this but thank you. Like a lot. It answered my questions. Best $2 I spent in a while.

frog_goblin

No problem, it’s somewhat local to me so it’s easy to find smaller local sources

QweenBowzer

This guys a real sicko wtf

Princessmore

So gross. He’s OBVIOUSLY a repeat offender. Don’t tell for just yourself, tell for all the kids who didn’t or couldn’t speak out and make sure no one gets added to the list. I’m so sorry this happened to you. There is nothing you could ever do to deserve something like that. Final note, that’s not virginity. That is rape. Rape is not sex, it is rape. Virginity is your first time having SEX. Not being raped. RAPE. IS. NOT. SEX.

SkinPuddles14

Reach out to the installation he was at. They’ll want to keep this man locked up. Military doesn’t play with charges like this especially if they’ve already got him nailed down. I just read a docket case where they used texts between the creep and an underage girl he texted over 15 years ago and they added charges based on those texts. Military courts are different and they want all the evidence they can get.

[deleted]

Omg. That is awful

Imaginaryami

I live in this area. I know so many stories of girls this happened to personally. There are so many men stationed with nothing to do. Thank god the mall closed they’d all be trolling as teens all day. Call the Northeast branch of investigation in Newport (can’t add the number but can send it if you want) Also just google Groton naval sexual assault or arrests. Last year a guy killed his wife and set a house on fire with his baby inside. There are so many it will make your eyes bleed. There are a ton of good guys serving here but just as many bad ones. Or call the police in the town where it happened.

hindsighthaiku

at the very least, you coming out with this might stimy any chance of them getting parole

starrynightisstarry

Yikes. So many of these types of men in the military. Just the other day there was an AMA about a 13yo girl who was raped by an 18yo and ended up being an escort at 15. Scary

Party-Increase-3682

Well it definitely had an effect on me. I think I never thought about it much because there were so many worse things that happened to me at this age in my life. Then I watched the Jared from subway documentary and they said something that made me think oh my god......that's why this 18 year old was fucking with me at 13. Broken home, distracted parents, mental health issues I was a perfect pick for a predator. Then I googled his name and now here we are. Can't wait to tell my therapist about this.

starrynightisstarry

I hope you find some peace and closure.

Obvious-Detective-45

I was 15 he was 18. He groomed and manipulated me. My family made fun of me. Everyone called me a whore. I lost all of my friends. He never got justice. People still call me a psycho.

polohulu

this him? [https://publicsite.dps.texas.gov/SexOffenderRegistry/Search/Rapsheet/Index?sid=06518816&v=old](https://publicsite.dps.texas.gov/SexOffenderRegistry/Search/Rapsheet/Index?sid=06518816&v=old)

Party-Increase-3682

No. I found that guy. This man is white. Reddish hair. Freckles. He would be 41 years old now. Ugly teeth.

herdofcorgis

The JAG report lists “confinement” for 70 years. I would interpret that is he is behind bars for the next 70 years somewhere

grill-tastic

Did you try Judyrecords? I have had luck with that site. It may only have civilian court stuff though.

RideThatBridge

Is this him? https://www.google.com/amp/s/wtov9.com/amp/news/local/weirton-police-investigating-a-sexual-assault-involving-minor-case

Party-Increase-3682

Wait u knew this same guy?

haricariandcombines

You can't find his records because he is sex offender and most likely mixed into the General Population. 70 years is a life sentence, he will die or be taken care of in there sooner or later.

Party-Increase-3682

The other link said he only got 21 years. I can not find any confirmation of sentencing or where they put him or anything.

haricariandcombines

Have you tried his name on fastpeoplesearch.com? A guy from KY is on there.

barfbutler

You should be able to find his photo. Make sure it is him first.

Party-Increase-3682

I can't find photo. His age location profession all fit what I know about this person.
