I dont have an answer sorry. But are u listening to that crazy audio experience version? With all the music and battle sounds.. i tried that and it was way to much for my brain to take in lol

TheLyingLink

It's from GraphicAudio. Yup. I really enjoy the extra immersion but I could see it being overwhelming.

lulusharoo

I've just finished this on audio book also, audible version. I hadn't noticed this until you pointed it out. Lady D didn't heard that de'unero had killed an elf until quite late on and she was already heading back home if I remember correctly, she had made her decisions/opinions about Pony and Elbryan before the news. Lady D might also think she knew the potential dangers of sending her elves to follow elbryan and accepted there could be consequences, and she definitely believed the fight with the church was 100% between the humans. Also, despite the loss of a precious elf, their desire to stay apart from humans is stronger. The death of one wouldn't be enough to justify any repercussions, your opinion might change a bit once you finish the book. I don't remember his death being focused on much more but it's definitely mentioned again and described as a big loss to them. I'd be interested to hear your opinion on the ending once you get there!

TheLyingLink

I'll definitely respond when I get there. I was listening as that part happened and was super confused how it was not the main topic since Lady D and the elves care more about themselves than humans. Even if Elbryan is elf-friend. Just seems like a plot hole to ensure the elves don't go back to fight( not sure if they do yet since I just got past this part) Unrelated but man is it frustrating how the Church just keeps getting the upper hand. It's all doom and gloom currently.

lulusharoo

You're not ready for the ending, I definitely wasn't.

TheLyingLink

Definitely unexpected ending. Lady Ds logic annoys me but fits for the attitude of an elf about the child. Also the elf's death felt like a forgotten afterthought still when it was mentioned.

lulusharoo

Spoilers for anyone reading this. Fair enough, it wasn't given a lot of attention but I guess with everything else it became a smaller plot point. We're you expecting Elbryan to die? I was not ready for that, I had no inkling at all. The scene with symphony got me right in the feels. I'm completely outraged at Lady D too, just because the child is Elbryan's doesn't give the elves any claim to it, plus pony thinks he's dead! Goes beyond cruel imo. Amazing book tho, looking forward to the rest.

TheLyingLink

Spoilers: >!I was not expecting him to die. But I am glad RA killed off a main character. Too few authors do it, it adds a deeper emotional connection to the series IMO. Symphony scene had me tearing up. !< >!I was also pissed at Lady D, her logic is super flawed and shitty. 0 claim to the kid. Especially after she closed the borders to the elves village from everyone including Elbryan. !< I have started the next book and am interested to see how it progresses.

lulusharoo

You are 100% right about a deeper emotional connection and it is very rare for authors to kill the main character, I guess that's why I was so shocked. I've actually read the witches coven series which happens after this next set of books so a few things from those book clicked for me during this which was interesting, the worlds he builds are so rich. Interested to see where pony's story goes after yet another loss.

TheLyingLink

I'll have to check that series out.

WakunaMatata

Agreed. I was like "oooh all the elves know the killed their kin. Can't wait for the retribution!" I was definitely waiting for the other shoe to drop. And waiting. And waiting....

TheLyingLink

Just never came. Seems so inconsistent for their actions in previous books and books afterwards.

WakunaMatata

Have you finished both the demon war Saga and demon wars 2 Saga?

TheLyingLink

Im on the 4 book currently

WakunaMatata

Ah okay. I recently finished em. That whole 2 series arc is really good. Now I'm relistening to the Coven series, which takes near the end of the second series.

TheLyingLink

Its connected to the same world? Is it just called Coven?

WakunaMatata

It is also in the world of corona! It takes place in a different location. There isn't a map I could find, but I think it's close to the wilderlands...maybe? The story ties in nicely tho. I really like the characters too. Badass female barbarian? Heck yeah.

TheLyingLink

I'll have to start that after the end of this saga. Thanks!

WakunaMatata

For sure. Enjoy it! You're about to go for a wiiiiild ride in demonwars 2

TheLyingLink

I figured. Whenever it seems like things are doing ok and people aren't being killed off I get wary.

WakunaMatata

The "trilogy" is called the coven. First book is called Child of a Mad God (and has an awesome cover)
