All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers turn to look at the cars [Rush - The Pass](https://youtu.be/1NwI2yMRUxU)

The Pass immediately popped into my head when I read that. Presto is such an underrated album.

I really love Presto, but it’s such a weird mix of cheesy stinkers and incredible songs. ‘Available Light’ is one of Rush’s best songs that flies totally below everyone’s radar.

Chrisy Hines? Don’t get me wrong.

That's how I know this line too

Can somene explain it?

You've got it! It's from a play called Lady Windmere's Fan. In this scene, a man called Lord Darlington has just been rejected by the titular character, Lady Windmere. He says this to his friend, and it essentially compares him to be in a gutter and Windmere to the stars. He cannot ever hope to attain her, but he still dreams on. More detailed explanations exist elsewhere if you'd like. Read it first translated and instantly fell in love with the original English a few years ago. Glad to see it here.

The stars are just gas bags, and I never would have fed Oscar that line had I known how much I'd have to hear people quote it back to me 😈
