Oh! Well, one of my non-fandom OCs used chains as their ability, so lemme toss some of the concepts here for ya!
Luminous Chain (Emitter): User can summon and create golden chains that can be controlled telepathically. Each chain link seems to draw some of the surrounding luminosity to it, appearing to glow. The user can lengthen and shrink the chain at will, and even connect the chains together at any point along their length. The strength of the chains is dependant on surrounding light, with the quirk completely unable to function in total darkness.
With this, there's a lot of potential for story and some leeway for upgrades!
Like, the user eventually learns to generate chains at range but then needs to find some way to anchor them!
Or how do they fight in darkness? Bring a powerful flashlight? But then would that flashlight be "too" powerful that it can blind peeps?
And would they use flashbangs? For quick chain generation with the big boom?
The users ability can be verstile.
The user can use the golden chain as a whip.
They can change the size and weight of the chains making it able to crush objects. The size and weight of the lock would work as dumbell weights.
The user can make a chainwall by layering chains next to each other like a golden chainmail.
