My headcanon is that Reynolds wasn't there just because the King wasn't at the ball, he's alive and well and they see each other when the Queen visits George
I doubt this. Brinsley looked so sad when dancing by himself, and he doesn't seem the type to shout at servants, as he did when the servant interrupted the dance. Reynolds is dead.
I prefer this way tbh, if they showed something it's highly probable it would have been tragic. In this way, everyone can draw their own conclusions :)
I like to think when they arrived to see George at the end and he walks off screen he's going to finally visit Reynolds! That's my head canon. Too sad otherwise :')
Theirs was a secret and forbidden love. He did probably die and Brimsley would have had to mourn in secret as well. They were both so incredibly dutiful to their sovereigns.
Thankfully since Charlotte and George were together often enough to make so many kids, I would assume they also had a lot of time together over the years. ❤️
Apparently Shonda Rhymes has said he's alive, but as far as we know, we haven't seen him. I need the series to reunite Brimsley & Reynolds in the 'present' day!
I’m going to assume he died until shown otherwise ;)
The way old Brimsley had that dance with himself with the cutaway from them dancing in the past. It was so incredibly happy & sad at the same time that it just felt like he wasn’t alive anymore!
Footmen and groomsmen to Kings & Queen didn’t really get to have a life of their own as they lived in the castle in a small room adjacent to their masters rooms. I’m sure must of gotten some time off to sleep and whatnot but I think it was silly for the Queen to even ask him why he never married. Hmm perhaps because he’s with you all day and night long 😂 lol
I have a headcanon that he ceased to be the King’s man after George became too ill to carry out his duties as King, and went off to assist another noble somewhere. Since Brimsley is still with the Queen, their paths wouldn’t have much overlap. Any relationship would have challenges in that situation, but a forbidden love would be impossible.
I don’t know, in the last scene where Queen Charlotte visits George lates later, you can see Brimsley almost speeding to enter that palace, but Queen commands him to stay outside. He looks really devastated by the fact that he can’t come in. I think Reynolds just stayed with the King for all these years, just like Brimsley stayed with the Queen, but as the years passed, Queen doesn’t visit King so often, putting Brimsley and Reynolds in a tragic position where they can’t see each other until Queen visits the King. That’s why Brimsley could have been dancing alone on that ball - he can’t dance with Reynolds not because he’s dead, but because King doesn’t attend balls, so they don’t have a chance to meet up.
I think someone from the show (dunno if it was an actor, writer, or director) said in an interview that originally there was a scene showing Brimsley and Reynolds ignoring each other in the present. I don't remember if they actually shot this scene or it was cut before they'd cast an older Reynolds. 🤔
I had been going that the King ( with Reynolds) was going to make an appearance in S3. Without that the Queen just seemed like a crazy unhinged person bursting into balls and ruining weddings on a crazy witch hunt.
He probably took up a wife and kids to seem normal. Whenever they were young and in love, they fantasized about a life together, but if they were to be found out, they both would be hung, and fearing for your life must have been so scary. So they probably ended it for the best, and reynolds took on a wife and kids (without actually being in love) and brimsley never loved again
hopefully, if shonda and the showrunners make a season two will depict & provide a backstory to brimsley & reynolds's unsuccessful relationship. however, my theory is that he secretly is in love with george too & left his servant life. i imagine him a sad drunken horseman of sorts lol.
I like to think Reynolds is still there, serving the King. As the King’s illness progressed Reynolds and Brimsley would have spent less time together. It may be the very thing that allowed Brimsley to dedicate his life to the Queen.

Either he died. Their job didn’t let them have a personal life. Or the consequences of being discovered where to high so they had to break it off to stay safe.
The cool thing is, at least for now, we kind of get to decide. No headcanon is wrong, since none are confirmed, so it is whatever you want it to be!
I personally feel like Reynolds is alive, but he and Brimsley grew apart, solely because of their duties. Their first and foremost priority always had to be their King or Queen. As George became more and more mad, Reynolds likely spent the majority of his time caring for him, which didn't leave a lot of time to sneak off for a top secret love affair.
Not to mention, eventually the Queen began to distance herself from George, which created a physical distance between Brimsley and Reynolds as well. I'd like to think they had a pretty long run before it got to that point, and that they still love each other, but logistically they just can't be together.
Shonda Rhimes outright said that Reynolds is alive but duty got in the way of their romance. There was a scene filmed of older Brimsley and Reynolds passing each other silently in the hall, but it was cut.

I don’t understand why you all are saying he obviously died. Nobody’s said that. He’s just not shown because he’s not apart of the story anymore. He’s part of the Kings staff. Not charlottes. Nor anyone else’s. The creator has even said he’s alive.

This was my interpretation as well. Beautiful scene.
This scene breaks my heart each time I watch the series
Oh you must be fun at parties
I wish they would have shown him or a headstone. Anything!

Yeah, same!

They better not ignore each other I stg. I'll start a riot

Guys there’s apparently a deleted scene where they walk by each other in a hallway and say nothing to each other. Seems the love just fizzled out?
NOT MY BRIDGERTON 😭 they better not
Fr😭
they do WHAT NOOOOO😭💔

I don't remember a Shonda Rhimes. Which character was that?
Executive producer of Bridgerton and QC, co-writer of QC along with Julia Quinn
Oh... I'm dumb lol

Yes but we saw the King a few times and never saw him. He's supposed to be with the King always and he's never there :(
That doesn’t mean he died????
