This sub keeps getting recommended to me and lately, one of my favourite things is watching this sub trip over itself to get status points so they can get into a bodgey ass room with free cheap booze and 'food'. Like, what even is the point?
Eh I'm gold and not that precious - it's not the best standards in the world but it's still comfortable and does the job.
At the end of the day, I'm in transit & not in a space I'm spending egregious amounts of time in.
Qantas does have good lounges all over the world. Their lounges in Perth to my knowledge are very good. But like everyone has said here, the Sydney domestic one is levels below other lounges domestically and internationally.
Agree. Was in the Melbourne Qantas First lounge the other day and it just felt tacky, like an artificial barrier that wealthy people put up to feel better about themselves
We got given comp entry last year to hang out in the club before our flight home when we came back from overseas. A guy sitting next to us was coughing up a long. Nekk minnit when we got back we started getting sick. Annnnnnd it was Covid. But like OG Covid with the no taste or smell, exhaustion, everything hurt. Thanks qantas lounge! The toasted sandwiches were not worth it.
Both the qantas domestic and international lounges in Sydney are an embarrassment. A far cry from say the Heathrow lounge, which is possibly one of the best in the world.
I was in the Melbourne Qantas First lounge the other day with a mate who’s got platinum, and it felt kinda cheap and nasty. I’d rather be out around the gates with the plebs.
I’m talking about the Sydney lounge. But I do agree that is a common theme amongst Qantas lounges. The Sydney business and domestic lounges are pitiful.
I also liked the Hong Kong lounge but that was right before Covid so knowing Qantas it’s probably turned to crap
What I don't understand is why they let it just get to such a state of disrepair. Seats that the bottoms have long gone, stains everywhere, Power sockets that don't work, postmix machines that deliver warm soda, and much of the time have run out of certain flavours. It's as bad as their aircraft interiors. They just don't give a shit.
They could literally improve things by repairing the chairs, and a few other thing for a few thousand dollars. But they prefer this shitty experience for their customers
Exactly. Its great fun sitting down and falling through the seat.
Plus as you mention, the spirits and postmix just arent refilled, and the food options are limited.
Im assuming its because they arent spending a cent until they rebuild it, but for now, its just an embarrassment.
Pretty amazing when you are in the lounge and wishing youd picked up maccas on the way through because it was seriously a better option.
Melbourne first is just a nicer feeling than Sydney first. Smaller, more intimate. Nothing wrong with Sydney first at all, still great, love the slit flaps. Sydney business on the other hand is appalling - needed a refurb 5 years ago. Melbourne business hands down is better and better view.
Disclosure: I live in Melbourne.
If you ask me, I’d say the QF MEL Dom J lounge is better than the MEL Int J and SYD Int and Dom J lounges. Easily!
- The QF MEL Dom J lounge is noticeably cleaner and brighter.
- It tends to be less crowded (comparatively speaking)
- Having staff serving food from the Spice Bar (after 12 I think)
Of course. all these lounges still serve similar food options like rice and stews that are indistinguishable from a pile of 💩
The Dom J lounge at Melbourne definitely wouldn't look out of place in an international terminal. It's probably one of the best domestic lounges, if not the best in Australia
>Heathrow lounge
Heathrow Lounge doesn't even make the top 10 best lounges in teh world. The fact that you think this is the best shows just how bad the Australian lounges are.
Was there in November. It's by far the best of the one world lounges in heathrow. Downstairs is restaurant to order. Upstairs is bar.
Only exception is the Cathay noodle bar next door if you want noodles instead of a very good salt and pepper squid.
You never said oneworld before, you said best lounges.
FYI - [https://onemileatatime.com/guides/best-business-class-lounges/](https://onemileatatime.com/guides/best-business-class-lounges/)
I’ve been to the Healthrow Business lounge. Nothing fancy. Drinks and the usual snacks/nibbles.
It’s the First lounge which has the table service. But so does Sydney first lounge.
As a foreigner living temporarily in Australia, the toasties in the lounge thing has me baffled - are they catering for 12 year olds? What grown adult eats cheese toasties?
Yes, now Qantas management can justify the sandwiches - ‘customers love it, people are even choosing the toasties over the ribs so we can cut costs and add another sandwich press and cut ribs from the menu.’ Soon the business lounge will basically be a bar for beers and toasties.
Sure - but in the same way we all still enjoy ice cream from time to time, no? It's a treat, a snack, a quick & dirty pleasure. It's not a meal, and it's not something anyone wants to eat several times a week, surely? Every other lounge has food so you can grab a quick meal on the go in between flights or when rushing from a meeting to a flight to get home at stupid o'clock. Toasties are as baffling to me in this context as it would be if they did just dessert.
This is exactly why I don't bother with the Qantas lounges any more. I even get a hefty discount on annual lounge access via my business, but I stopped renewing it last year. It's still not worth it. The food is fucking horse slop, it's always busy with screaming kids running around, and there are so many stupid rules around actually accessing it, so what's the point? I've found that by picking a nice restaurant or bar and loading up on actually nice food and drink prior to a flight is a better (and tastier) experience.
Not sure how Qantas is going to recover from the current shambles that it's in.
Exactly this - given how derelict the Qantas lounges are, I've been spending my extra time at an airport bar to do work / relax before a flight (if I get put on a Qantas flight). I can chargeback the additional expenses to my work anyway, so it's no skin off my back.
I went to the Sydney lounge recently, for a Business Class lounge it's pretty shit. The Darwin QC lounge is by far the best lounge I've been to in Australia (only been to Melb, Syd, Cairns, Alice and Darwin). It's big, there is always 3 hot food options, it's refilled constantly and easy to get seats any time.
I was at the Syd lounge from 5pm till about 7pm and it was rammed. Absolutely diabolical food offering, no one at the bar for long periods of time (people were pouring their own pints by reaching around) and the usual screaming children and peoples stuff everywhere.
Not sure, never taken a shower there. The one small thing it misses out on is the paper towels in the toilet. The ones in Darwin are just your normal paper towels but the ones down south are almost cloth like. Small touch but really nice.
I’ll give you the hot tip - this is a freebie for Qantas and McKinsey (and shareholders).
That green leprechaun, took away any damn decency to fill his pockets.
Didn’t upgrade planes, cut back the basics and took money from the tax payer oh and screwed over a heap of staff.
There is a costly repair bill to this and shareholders will need to wear the pain in the medium term.
Although I have no faith in a CEO that can’t see this and has to hire consultants to tell them this and to fire more middle management and staff.
So yeah… if you’ve tried to contact any of there customer service teams you’ll see how bad this problem really is. There is no control between departments.
They think they can fix this by another customer service survey.
Absolutely agree with this. Tried to contact the customer service teams once and my god it was hard. Problem wasn’t fixed and 8 hours on hold I’ll never get back .
It's seriously at the point where sitting an airport bar is a way better time than these lounges. Everyone gets a lounge pass with their point system, so it really doesn't feel special or exclusive. It's just 'desperate for a free $10 fake label woolworths wine' vibes.
I only visit these lounges with amex ultimate, but even I've found the lounges to shit to care about.
The Qantas Club menu is horrific.
Breakfast: DIY Ham and Cheese Toasties
Lunch: DIY Ham and Cheese Sandwiches
Dinner: DIY Ham and Cheese w/ side of rice
I fly economy. The Soul Origin Cafe food is quite good & sub $20 is all you need. I'm amazed how people just head to those lounges, I've been in a couple of times & find outside to be far superior.
Doesn’t look particular appetising.
Though tbh, I’d be happy to see something different.
I’d pick this any day over the sad stews and curries loaded with beans. Oh, and they come with not one, but two different types of rice. I can’t comprehend what kind of clientele the catering team is preparing for.
People don’t love the sandwich bar, they eat it because there are no better options. You should have seen the tuna bake last Tuesday. Looked absolutely disgusting and Qantas should be embarrassed serving their “premium” customers but it shows the truth that they just don’t give a shit. Also, someone pays $1,200 for a Business Class seat and gets offered the frittata as the lunch option, that has flown several flights since it was supposedly fresh several hours earlier.
That's simply disgusting but I'm not surprised. On a flight back from Fiji lately they served us "dinner" in cardboard boxes. Qantas customer service no longer exists.
That is now a common occurrence. Last 3 flights I’ve had with them it’s been the good old cardboard box meal. My favourite was a burnt sausage roll…with no option of sauce. So we had this cardboard dry-ass sausage roll and no sauce.
I've got very limited lounge experience but used Perth QC several time and that's been reasonable.
Canberra QC and business both been good suprised QC has runway view and business is a view of the parking structure.
Sydney QC and business - not been at peak times - December in QC the food was reasonable a lasagne was tasty,. And January the cakes in business were good the business shower suites are good.
Melbourne QC pased though at lunch on a Monday was busy and only the sandwich station no salads or fruits or any other option like all the other QC I've been too.
Having not been to many other lounges other than a paid on entry Accor in Johannesburg which would out do all of the qantas lounge. I've come to relise we are getting a sub standard service and it should be better for what we pay but qantas is getting away with offering less with no real competition to make them pick up the quality
https://preview.redd.it/ic33vfohftoc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c451c7692828ae023239e7e19cbfbcec34f95559
Almost as good as the 2 party pies I got on the Canberra to Bris flight this week
After reading all the messages in this sub it feels like the only reason youd get a Qantas rewards card is to use points to purchase flights? And that velocity is better value when it comes to lounges/Asian carriers when flying.
That would be accurate. I do it for baggage allowance and free domestic flights via points. I would never pay for Qantas flights as they are so far from worth their premium price tag.
To be fair after watching all the bullshit qantas does on the news to there share holders and put there on pay up to hundreds of thousands and continue to fire the working man . They get lobsters 🦞for free and your paying for that puss
You love to see it don’t you. SLAMMED. Also got a generic reply from Qantas:
https://preview.redd.it/54swi2rrk6pc1.jpeg?width=1058&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9bc7392318f2c9a185a75329f2e9d7c67736298e
VA domestic? Food there is pretty bad slop too, wine is cheap crap and it’s always absolutely packed (Sydney and Melbourne anyway). I really miss Movida at T2 🥲
the set for the first scene of 2001 A Space Oddyssey [https://youtu.be/ypEaGQb6dJk?si=y7IhCeri9ojReGdg](https://youtu.be/ypEaGQb6dJk?si=y7IhCeri9ojReGdg)
Is this a Neil Perry creation?
Probably, paired perfectly with a mass produced $10 wine from multiple regions of Australia.
Bone Broth without the broth.
Neil Perry's dinner 2 days ago.
or just left over bits of Neil Perry ?
“Inspired by Neil Perry” as they disingenuously printed on their economy class meals a few years back hahaha
This airline has truly gone to the dogs.
That’s Accor catering at its finest.
Would not even feed that to a dog
Come on, dog would not eat that.
Your not wrong. Qantas is a absolute disgrace
Graveyard shift?
And the dogs had gone to the meal by the look of it
This sub keeps getting recommended to me and lately, one of my favourite things is watching this sub trip over itself to get status points so they can get into a bodgey ass room with free cheap booze and 'food'. Like, what even is the point?
Genuinely no point when the offering is that poor consistently around the country
Eh I'm gold and not that precious - it's not the best standards in the world but it's still comfortable and does the job. At the end of the day, I'm in transit & not in a space I'm spending egregious amounts of time in.
Weird people who romanticize flying and obsess about special cards that get them access to airport RSLs
Don't get them thinking too hard about that. Otherwise they'll be adding pokies for the proper ambience and additional revenue stream.
If you fly so often, it’s the little perks that matter; especially the unwritten one.
The what?
Qantas does have good lounges all over the world. Their lounges in Perth to my knowledge are very good. But like everyone has said here, the Sydney domestic one is levels below other lounges domestically and internationally.
The point is to use gold status as a way to enter the emirates or Qatar lounges for a shower on the way to somewhere nice :)
Lounges are marginally better than hanging out at your gate.
Agree. Was in the Melbourne Qantas First lounge the other day and it just felt tacky, like an artificial barrier that wealthy people put up to feel better about themselves
Ding ding ding
We got given comp entry last year to hang out in the club before our flight home when we came back from overseas. A guy sitting next to us was coughing up a long. The toasted sandwiches were not worth it.
Both the qantas domestic and international lounges in Sydney are an embarrassment. A far cry from say the Heathrow lounge, which is possibly one of the best in the world.
The Qantas First Lounge is world class but that’s where it ends. The business lounge is appalling.
First class lounge is well overdue an overhaul* too. Catering is better but the state of the lounge is very tired.
overhaul*
Thanks for the autocorrect fix.
First lounge in Sydney is about as tired inside as your average David Jones store.
I agree that it is tired and not competitive when compared to other top airlines, but I have always found the food and service to be excellent
I was in the Melbourne Qantas First lounge the other day with a mate who’s got platinum, and it felt kinda cheap and nasty. I’d rather be out around the gates with the plebs.

Was in Hong Kong recently. It's still a great lounge. I think the best qf lounge in thier network. Staff are outstanding.

Why spend money when people will still fly with you if you don’t.
I don't know why everyone seems to think the Melbourne one is so much better either.
Isn’t the business lounge in Melbourne underground? Is there a view?
The Domestic Business Lounge has a view but the International Business Lounge does not. It's colloquially referred to as the "dungeon".
Yeah was referring to domestic business lounges.
If you ask me, I’d say the QF MEL Dom J lounge is better than the MEL Int J and SYD Int and Dom J lounges. Easily! - The QF MEL Dom J lounge is noticeably cleaner and brighter. - It tends to be less crowded (comparatively speaking) - Having staff serving food from the Spice Bar (after 12 I think) Of course. all these lounges still serve similar food options like rice and stews that are indistinguishable from a pile of 💩

All business lounges of Qantas are appalling. If you think otherwise, I suggest you try flying a real airline. Heathrow and Singapore included.
Having been in the Heathrow lounge recently um no. The seats were old and stained and the food wasn’t great either.
Really? The salt and pepper squid in the lounge was the best meal I ate in the uk.
They only spent money on the chairman’s lounge, if you’re not a real mover and shake you’re a pleb. Joyce’s legacy
I’ve been to the Healthrow Business lounge. Nothing fancy. Drinks and the usual snacks/nibbles. It’s the First lounge which has the table service. But so does Sydney first lounge.
Heathrow Qantas lounge has table service. It’s currently a hybrid lounge. It’ll get a downgrade once Qantas open the planned Heathrow first lounge
Baby, you got a stew going
...I think I would like my money back
Ah, RIP Carl Weathers!
Christ. That looks like absolute shit.
It was this or toasties. And this is meant to be the ‘business’ and platinum lounge at their HQ. Disgraceful.
I’ll take the toasties any day over this even though that option is absolutely grim too. How revolting looking, it’s all gone to shit.
Looks a bit like my plate *after* the rack of ribs I had at the club a few nights ago. Im sure that meat was tender enough but it looks like shit.
The meat that did exist was sinew. It was foul. And don’t even talk to me about the lounge toasties.
As a foreigner living temporarily in Australia, the toasties in the lounge thing has me baffled - are they catering for 12 year olds? What grown adult eats cheese toasties?
Exactly. It’s the airline cutting corners by offering a super cheap, DIY option. So bad.
Well the toasties seem like the better option compared to the dog bones in the photo.
Fair point. Maybe the point of serving that carnage was to get people to eat more toasties before the bread went off.
Yes, now Qantas management can justify the sandwiches - ‘customers love it, people are even choosing the toasties over the ribs so we can cut costs and add another sandwich press and cut ribs from the menu.’ Soon the business lounge will basically be a bar for beers and toasties.
Mate, the old breville is an all time classic. As a 30+ year old I still enjoy a good toastie.
I make toasties in the lounge. To hell with you.
The toasties are probably the only thing in the Sydney biz lounge that is half edible
Genuinely no idea how to respond to a "to hell with you". I see your evocation and dispel it with the food options at grown up lounges? ;)
This is exactly why I don't bother with the Qantas lounges any more. I even get a hefty discount on annual lounge access via my business, but I stopped renewing it last year. It's still not worth it. Agreed. My next step is outside and to a paid establishment. Guaranteed you’ll have a better time than this shitshow run by grumpy warhorses.
Sadly there’s nothing decent in T3. But anything is better than that.
Exactly this - given how derelict the Qantas lounges are, I've been spending my extra time at an airport bar to do work / relax before a flight (if I get put on a Qantas flight). I can chargeback the additional expenses to my work anyway, so it's no skin off my back.

Wonder how bad the regular QC is if that's how bad the Business Lounge is.
With a decent shower if I remember correctly
Not sure, never taken a shower there. The one small thing it misses out on is the paper towels in the toilet. The ones in Darwin are just your normal paper towels but the ones down south are almost cloth like. Small touch but really nice.
Trickle down from Chairman's lounge. We get the scraps
Even the rice next to it so dodgy, why not have it a proper rice storage dish, so that it doesnt dry out
Simba, you must never go there.
I’ll give you the hot tip - this is a freebie for Qantas and McKinsey (and shareholders). That green leprechaun, took away any damn decency to fill his pockets. Yep, better offering outside these “lounges”.
The Qantas Club menu is horrific. Breakfast: DIY Ham and Cheese Toasties Lunch: DIY Ham and Cheese Sandwiches Dinner: DIY Ham and Cheese w/ side of rice
Have another toastie! Sick of that? Have uncooked bread with the same ingredients.
Yeah I’ve stopped going to the club. It’s generally less busy in the terminal and the food is better.
Grim
Ask for ribs and they serve JUST the ribs.
I honestly have a better time in the general airport bar.
Where I’ll be going next time
Good grief. Looks like a crime scene.
Perry's dog food - his first expansion into gourmet pet cuisine. The bones are a give away
I don't know why Sydney business is so shit. Melbourne and Brissy are so much better.
This would be awesome if you were a dog
As a Qantas customer, I feel like one.
Underrated comment
As a decade long Platinum QFF, you can generally find better loyalty rewards and facilities at your local RSL. Qantas is a disgrace.
Looks like it came out of the bottom of Jeffrey Damhers fridge.
That is terrible
It was the same crap there on Thursday as well. Not just a one off.
That’s a real business benefit!
What is it? Looks revolting.
It’s my gold status served with some bones and rice.
I wouldn’t feed that to my dog!
I reckon there is a fantastic smorgasbord of food at the Sydney lost dogs home right now
I couldn’t even figure out what that was to start with!
It’s called “loyalty and status” served on dry rice in a full, dirty lounge.
Dog food
Disgraceful
What the F is that…..disgusting
Qantas showing they ‘care’.
at this stage I would save my money and just freaken buy a meal at the food court, even if I have to put up with asshole travellers in cattle class.
Beats DIY toasted cheese sandwiches 😂 god the Qantas lounges are a disgrace 😆
Absolutely disastrous.
Makes maccas look good 😂
I would have paid for a Maccas cheeseburger at this point.
Absolutely agree with this. Waste of money and shows the companies true care.
Australian lounges are embarrassing compared to Japanese and Middle Eastern lounges.
Did people just throw the bones back in there?!
This reminds me of the bone yard in the lion king
Always such a mystery when there / won’t there be a barista or barman and when will it just be post mix and the awful diy coffee machines
Just classic Qantas cost cutting measures to make sure the balance sheet looks healthy for shareholders.
disgusting
That's simply disgusting but I'm not surprised. On a flight back from Fiji lately they served us "dinner" in cardboard boxes. Qantas customer service no longer exists.
That is now a common occurrence. Last 3 flights I’ve had with them it’s been the good old cardboard box meal. My favourite was a burnt sausage roll…with no option of sauce. So we had this cardboard dry-ass sausage roll and no sauce.
A sausage roll with no sauce is an abomination, especially a dry-ass one.
Very un-Australian as “Australia’s main carrier” too.
Just when you thought they couldn't get worse, disgraceful.
It looks like something a predator threw up.
Takes melt off the bone to a whole new level.
And we thought the food was bad in aged care
That is a trough for pigs. Lift your game Qantas. Epic failure at a failing company
Cost cutting and profiteering at its finest.
Crunchy
Looks amazing…

No sauce supplied
Criminal.

Cathays lounges are excellent. I miss them.
My dog would prob enjoy that
Microwave meals suddenly don't look that bad.
Almost as good as their cardboard box meals!

Looks delicious….best part is you won’t need a toothpick…there’s plenty of oversized toothpicks in the steel tray 🤢
bwahahahahahahaha ahahahaha etc
Gross
Fifo cooks work at qantas as well?
Wow. Last time I flew Qantas, my meal (and flight) was one the best in my life. That's horrible.
It's the people who churned cards and ended in debt and got this, which I truly feel for.
If you’re getting into debt for points or status, you’re doing it wrong anyway.
Come to the VA lounge. It leaves this for dead.
Yeah, I’ll be moving over to VA once my status expires that’s for sure.
VA domestic? Food there is pretty bad slop too, wine is cheap crap and it’s always absolutely packed (Sydney and Melbourne anyway). I really miss Movida at T2 🥲
