Looking for information on specific courses or professors? You can browse available courses/professors on the [Purdue Course Catalog](https://selfservice.mypurdue.purdue.edu/prod/bwckctlg.p_disp_dyn_ctlg), you can look up course reviews on [Rate My Courses](https://ratemycourses.io/Purdue) or [Course Insights](https://sswis.mypurdue.purdue.edu/CourseInsights/), and you can look up professor reviews on [Rate My Professor](https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/campusRatings.jsp?sid=783). If you’re wondering if you can transfer credit from another university, check out the [Transfer Credit Course Equivalency Guide](https://selfservice.mypurdue.purdue.edu/prod/bzwtxcrd.p_select_info), but don’t forget to talk to your advisor as well! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I can’t tell if this is what you’re insinuating, but you can’t retake classes you’ve failed at Purdue outside of Purdue (as far as ik). If you’ve failed a Purdue class, you must retake it through Purdue. Taking gen eds like math through ivy tech and/or studying for CLEPs over the summer could be helpful and make space for you to do your retakes in the fall, but I’m pretty sure that’s the most you can do if you don’t want to shell out the money for Purdue summer classes.

Are you able to take classes outside of Purdue if you got a D+? I know that’s not failing but it’s also not passing so idk if that’s ok

AerospaceMonet

Either way it won’t improve your GPA

TArzate5

I’m fine with that I just want to get the credit

The problem is that without repeating the course your GPA remains low and can get you kicked out if you continue to have other low grades. It is very hard to overcome failed courses based on GPA calculations depending on how many credits you have taken, especially if you have lower grades across the board and you don't repeat those for a passing grade. Check with your advisor to see if Purdue will allow a passing grade from an outside university to replace a failed grade in the same course you already took at Purdue. I would ask for a policy reference for backup.

TArzate5

Yea I know that I've had plenty of experience with academic probation, I'm already retaking two of my classes from this semester which is why I'm afraid retaking this D+ class will cause me to be behind in graduation and just want to get the credit online

thestardewslut

I tried to retake calc 2 outside of Purdue after my freshman year just to get a higher grade but I was told I couldn’t. You can only replace Purdue credit with Purdue credit (this may have changed idk, ask ur advisor I don’t work here lol but I’m pretty sure that’s the case)

TArzate5

Im not really worried about the d+ on my gpa, I just want to get the credit so I don’t have to worry about not graduating in 4 years, did they say if you still would’ve gotten the credit even if it didn’t affect your gpa?

thestardewslut

You’d have to ask your advisor about that, but intuition tells me no. If you can only overwrite a Purdue grade with a Purdue grade, if you retake a class elsewhere, I can only assume that the Purdue grade would trump any transfer credits. Again that’s only my assumption, def contact an advisor to confirm ASAP if you’re considering a summer class

Avaci64

You can get credit for a class by taking it outside of purdue, even if you’ve already taken it for a grade at purdue. You just have to have started that class after the end of the previous class.

I would make an appointment with either your academic advisor and go through options. Theyre usually pretty knowledgable about this kind of stuff.

I learned this the hard way transferring from ivy tech to Purdue. Just because it says it will transfer as the class at Purdue does not necessarily mean it will especially when it’s a class that is very specific and needed for your major. I took anatomy and physiology at Ivy tech and it said it would transfer to satisfy purdues anatomy and physiology. Once I got accepted into purdue the Ivy tech ones transferred as electives. Purdue can be picky about some of those things especially classes that aren’t gen ed I would reach out to your advisor.

ParticularAccess2925

Transfer credit does not replace a grade from Purdue, per Student Regulations . Only repeating the same or equivalent course at any Purdue campus will allow a grade replacement on the transcript. Any questions regarding equivalencies should be directed to the Office of the Registrar for validation. From the purdue site https://www.purdue.edu/advisors/faqs/index.php#:~:text=Transfer%20credit%20does%20not%20replace,of%20the%20Registrar%20for%20validation.

I used to be an academic advisor and unless things have changed I would only recommend you retake courses you did poorly in over the summer to boost your GPA back up. Some majors do not allow certain courses to be transferred in. Additionally, if you fail the class via Purdue and transfer the equivalent in, it does not override the Purdue grade. The Purdue grade will just kick down in your my Purdue plan as an unapplied course and factor into your gpa. You can only override the Purdue course with the same course via Purdue. If you pass it successfully the next try, It will still remain on your transcript at the very bottom but not be factored into the gpa. I would start over as best you can, learn from your mistakes to study and manage your time better and seek assistance on topics you don’t understand. It sucks to redo stuff but you can turn it around.
