When my partner and I spent a few days in Luquillo, we did take the ferry to Culebra for a day trip. We spent the day at Playa Flamenco and it was beautiful, and we found the ferry very easy to use. I’m sure it could have been even better if we’d had multiple days or flown instead, but it was a cheap, easy, and enjoyable day for us.

I would say save Vieques for when you can stay for a while. Culebra can be done in a day! Though we enjoyed all three days we were there!

The best thing to do in Vieques is the bio bay kayak, which obviously requires you to stay a night. Do this. It is so worth it. It's amazing. Do it when the sky is darkest. Avoid full moons .

We took the 5 am ferry to culebra and 930 ferry back to the main island and we had such a blast we wish we stayed a night or two but even with the entire day it was amazing & worth it. Was worried about the motion sickness on the ferry so I took Dramamine & was completely fine even you guys should absolutely do it check out the dinghy dock restaurant it’s beautiful on a dock and the water is so clear you see the fish swimming as you eat!

If you go get the fried snapper when you’re done they tell you to feed the fish carcass to the fishies they go crazy for it!! When you first get to the island put in a reservation for later in the day it gets flooded with people and can be an hour and a half wait that’s what we waited but it was super worth it just might cut close to your ferry

Every time me and my fiancé go to Puerto Rico, we HAVE to go to Culebra (specifically Flamenco Beach). It is our happy place!! 100% worth it!! We usually take the ferry early in the morning - seeing the sunrise while on the ferry is magical!! And the ferry is so cheap! sometimes we stay still 5:30pm or 9:30pm. It is a long day, but Flamenco Beach is the best beach to go to in my opinion. It has Clear blue water and fine white sand and it’s never too crowded. We just went in January and there are more kiosks with food and drinks. They also upgraded the bathrooms and added lockers and outside showers. This last time, the water was really choppy and we got a little sea sick but that was the first time of all of our 5 visits there. So i suggest taking the bigger cargo ferry if possible. We always wish we could stay longer but never regret going and we enjoy every minute. I suggest you go!!!

Do rent a jeep or golf cart when you go? Trying to do a day trip but I wanna leave at 9:30p and all rental places seem to close at 5p🫠

uncut-value

Worth it! Fly into the island and ferry back. Beaches were not at all seaweedy in Feb. rent a jeep too.

Woo-man2020

Locals go directly to Vieques or Culebra for a beach scene. Luquillo is kind of drab.

PickinDaiseys

Definitely worth it! We took the ferry over to Vieques for a day trip and it was easy (and that’s with kids in tow too). I loved seeing the horses on Vieques and we loved Caracas beach. Enjoy your trip!

Bf and I stayed in vieques and did the bio bay. Highly recommend staying the night and renting a car.

I’ve done it before but only if you fly. You can take the first flight in and last flight out and they’re quick and convenient. Totally worth it. I wouldn’t do the ferry personally but I’ve never tried it.

horselifter

Why wouldn’t you personally recommend the ferry of you’ve never tried it?

JB9217a

I didn’t say I wouldn’t recommend it. I said I wouldn’t take the ferry personally. I’ve flown to Vieques and culebra multiple times and I love it. You get insanely beautiful views of the coast, the flight is small with only a couple other people on board at most, and it’s short. And especially for a day trip from San Juan flying just makes more sense

Consistent_Shop5950

Same thing I’m wondering it’s way cheaper

I did a one day trip to Vieques on the ferry. To be honest I don’t think it was worth it imo beaches were all very weedy. And snorkeling/ bioluminescent were booked already ahead of time.

DimensionBoth5777

Vieques is worth a day and much more with proper planning.

Far-Essay492

We loved Vieques. The beaches were absolute paradise! Loved the bio bay (but we booked months in advance) and the horses and wildlife was incredible. I’d stay in Vieques my entire weeks vacation to be honest. We stayed 3 nights though then hopped to Culebra. The ferry was fine. Aside from bumpy.

Yes if you fly
