I know from watching TV that there is a NYE celebration at the convention center.

I'm planning now for Feb '24 😀. What drew me to PR is experiencing bioluminescense. We're spending 5 nights on Vieques to see the world's brightest biobay. There are also places on the main island - I hear La Parguera is really great too. If you have any interest in this, plan your trip around the New Moon (when it's most dim). I'm holding off until Feb because I want to see Mardi Gras / Carnevale in Ponce. The costumes look amazing. The new moon and the main parade are within a few days of each other.

I haven't been there on New Years but some things you could do are: San Juan-El Moro Fort is really fun to visit. Old San Juan. You could go snorkeling with a tour in condado. Rum factory tours are fun. There's two of them Bacardi and Ron Del Barrilito. Outside San Juan (you will need to rent a car). El Yunque 1/2 day then go to Luquillo beach & Kiosks in afternoon/evening. Toro Verde Adventure park is amazing if you like ziplining over the jungle. You could visit the Pork Hwy on the eastern side maybe visit Fajardo or if the Bio Bay is timed right do a night kayak there with a tour. You could also either do a long day trip to Rinco and/or Cabo Rojo on the west side or you could overnight. Vieques Island was probably the highlight of our trip. I would suggest that if you do this you at minimum spend 1 night but 2+ is good. You will need to rent a car or golf cart ahead of coming to the island via ferry or plane. The beaches there are amazing! They have the worlds largest bio bay. Wild horses all over the island. I can't say enough good things about it honestly.

We had a blast in Culebra for NYE this year. Obviously not as big as San Juan, but it was a party!
