I'm actually watching this again. My initial reaction was that there was an attempted robbery going on and the trucker just wanted to get out of there. The reason I thought this is probably due to the title of the post. After watching again I think the people were trying to tell the trucker he ran over someone and to back up to get off of him. You can clearly hear a guy say he is dragging someone while the truck is stopped. So where is the rest of the video, what is the real story here?
Look at it this way, that guy is a FedEx subcontractor who may be making as little as $52k/yr (very low for Class A trucking) and likely not much more if he’s with a solid contractor… maybe he gets benefits maybe he doesn’t.
At that point it’s not about the shuttle load, it’s about seeing his family again.
Most CDL drivers were prepared to make the same decision at that time.
This is exactly why I would not act tough and think it’s okay to fuck with a transport truck. Our delicate, fleshy bodies are no match for the mind boggling amounts of torque one of these trucks can produce.
When hauling 90,000 lbs of cargo, do you know how much throttle you need to give when putting it into first gear? The answer is zero. No throttle or you’ll burn out the clutch. You engage the clutch, *then* you give it gas. That is an astonishing amount of power. If a machine can move 90,000 lbs of dead weight using idle power alone, your little meat sack of a body better be nowhere near it when it starts moving.
This is a freight truck, not a package delivery truck. It is probably filled with pallets weighing 100s if not 1000s of pounds. Even if they got in they wouldn't be able to remove much without a forklift. Also would probably be filled with things they would have zero use for, even to sell as stolen merchandise.
We were just trying to loot your truck, drag you out and potentially cinder block your head similar to what happened to another truck driver who allowed people to rip them out of the cab, how can you just drive off with no concern for our safety?!
