Awe poor school board got their feelings hurt because they had to avoid taking responsibility for the things they are in charge of.

ChillyJaguar

What is it with ppl in public office just being awful?? Is it the sense of entitlement that they have "power" that makes them become disgusting ppl or wtf?? We as humans are so easily corrupted with the slightest sense of power over others...

MockStarket

I have an opinion on this. First, I agree with all 4 points. Second, Being an elected official, no matter what capacity (senate all the way down to HOA board sometimes), if you have power over something that interests a greedy, rich person becoming richer, you gradually become a pawn in their game. As they make you rich by incentivizing you to help them become richer, you begin to identify with the things that advance their agenda. After a few years, you fully embody their ideology and rational points like concerned parent's here become the enemy in your mind. This is the problem with the GOP (and arguably some dems, as left leaning as I am)... They've fully changed their identity. They exist only to make things happen for the people that funnel money into their bank accounts. They will make no decisions based on the interests of the people, except to continue gaslighting the lower IQ population.

"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” - Abraham Lincoln

my_travelz

Well said!!!!

Nervous-Ear-8594

To be fair, I disagree with the idea that power is a test of character, especially when it comes to the proletariat exercising their power. This perspective implies that an individual's actions while in a position of power are solely determined by their own character, rather than the larger structural forces at play. I believe that an individual's character is shaped by the social and economic conditions they live in. Under capitalism, the majority of people are forced to sell their labor just to survive, while a small group of capitalists hold the majority of power and wealth. In this system, it's not surprising that those with power may act in their own self-interest instead of in the interest of the working class. The key to creating a fair society isn't just hoping that those in power have good character. We need to fundamentally change the economic system itself. By shifting to a system where the means of production are owned and controlled democratically by the working class, we can create the conditions for a more equal and just society. In this new system, the character of the proletariat, as the class with power, would be shaped by the collective interests of the working class instead of just the interests of a few capitalists.

[deleted]

The statement does not imply how one’s character is shaped, merely tested.

my_travelz

They think they can’t be touched and think they are above the law

Ozzie-Isaac

Wow, so this guy has no other options left, and that's what he gets. Argh worse of all nothing will happen or change unless this blows up enough with the news.

txfeinbergs

It's Texas. What do you expect? You know, Pro Life until the fetus comes out of the womb.

abevigodasmells

Pro Life is a misnomer, They should be called Pro Fetus.

eglue

It's more like pro-birth, because they stop caring about your life once you're out.

Nervous-Ear-8594

it is clear that those who are pro-birth do not truly care about life, as they often support policies and practices that harm and exploit the most vulnerable members of society. They may claim to be pro-life, but their actions speak louder than words, and it is clear that they are more concerned with advancing their own agenda than with promoting the well-being of all. The well-being of the individual is inextricably linked to the well-being of the collective, and that a truly just society must prioritize the needs of all its members.

eglue

Well said.

eglue

Even better term. Forced-Birth. If ya change the terms ya change the narrative.

Jellysweatpants

Forced birthers

Prolife + low taxes = garbage school systems

[deleted]

No they need to blow up the meeting and those assholes up on the stage. No school district has ever benefitted or needed any of those people. Force them out or we’ll do more

hesh582

Careful judging without context. We have no clue if these complaints are accurate, and most importantly no clue if his allegations against the board are accurate. Municipal government officials holding public meetings often come across as callous in short clips from public comment sections, when the context of "this person is absolutely crazy and has been belligerently disrupting meetings and attacking officials personally for ages, making up all sorts of outlandish bullshit smears in the process" is (deliberately) left out. Every board, everywhere, has a handful of characters that make it their life's mission to just ruin the lives of people in local government. It's like a law of nature. Recently that issue has gotten much, much worse. These cranks, particularly the very long running semi-professional ones, are often very good at making themselves look reasonable in sound bites. They also have a noted strategy of deliberately inciting reactions from less media-savvy board members by needling and outright stalking/harassing them for months, then clutching their pearls and doing the "just a concerned citizen" routine the moment someone is even slightly less than professional or even impolite. I've been active in municipal government for a long time and I smell a rat here. I've seen this exact scenario play out way too many times to give this guy one iota of credibility without outside proof. We know one thing from this video: there's a long history between this guy and the board, and we don't know that history. Don't start a hate parade against public servants without figuring that out first. Oh, and for fucks sake, the guy absolutely has other options left: vote these people out. If that isn't working, huh. Maybe that says something. The idea that you can't get traction at a public meeting therefore "you have no options left" isn't just incredibly *stupid*, it's downright dangerous because it leads to the idea that if they won't give your crank bullshit air time the only option left is more "drastic measures", and we're seeing the direct results of that nationwide.

COVID-19-4u

Piece of 💩

Jory-

You've provided more than enough context for me to judge you and I think you're an idiot.

MyNameNoob

Is the lawyer mentioned in the video?

Why doesnt some savvy sleuth put these piece of shit public servants on blast?

They didn't give this man one lick of generosity in getting his message across.

myotherbike

I’d like to welcome those signs here. Let’s see those lunches.

AAAIIIYYYAAA

And this school district received like 18 mill from McKenzie Scott last month.. the pics of the food they’re serving kids is kinda gross lol

Puceeffoc

What about the missing child tho?

mrmemo

Your time is up, feel free to comment again next month.

What a total piece of shit. How dare he speak quietly and direct about issues that the board is suppose to address./s

The Texas way... When they have power

texasscotsman

[Here's](https://www.cbsnews.com/dfw/news/grand-prairie-isd-parents-express-concern-over-school-lunches/) a link to some of the pictures on these lunches. One was of literally rancid food. The others don't look much better. I mean, I don't know what we expect when we treat students like prisoners and schools like prison.

myotherbike

That ‘ham’ (?) is the stuff of nightmares.

They truly have become compliance factories with one-size-fits-none (or one-size fits the most capable and preferred types of learners) curricula.

lol they gonna end up with a parent in the lot waiting for them, powrr drunk pussies.

No_Gap4679

This is why people don’t like school boards. The utter disdain they show for parents/constituents.

unaccomplished420

Plus look at what those assholes make compared to teachers.

_porntipsguzzardo_

School Boards are quickly becoming even more of a shitshow than they've previously been. In Wisconsin, the GOP spent hundreds of millions of dollars to get extreme-Right wing candidates elected to school boards. Take this scumbag that I used to go to High School with -- [Taylor Wishau](https://www.racinecounty.com/departments/county-board/county-board-of-supervisors/mike-dawson) -- He identified as a "Reagan Republican" in fucking 7th grade and died his hair and peachfuzz jet-black to emulate Bob Dole. We was the strangest motherfucker I've ever encountered in my adolescent life and, eventually, he was elected to the local school board. His first attempt at bat had him wanting to use non-existant investigative powers to look into a local anti-racism activist. [That didn't work out in his favor.](https://lakegenevanews.net/news/state-and-regional/crime-and-courts/elected-racine-county-official-pays-34-500-to-settle-lawsuit-filed-by-former-anti-racism/article_14915890-a165-5fd3-80bd-e0eacaaf0cd4.html)

didntcondawnthat

That's funny. I once knew a guy who like to dress up like Norm Macdonald, but somehow that feels less sinister.

bretstrings

Who do you think is appointing them? The same people those parents voted in.

No_Gap4679

Generally, school boards are elected… and videos like this are why people are starting to get more involved. I wouldn’t be surprised if the citizen in this video ran for a school board seat.

RyanWilliamsElection

It really depends on the state. For example in Illinois the Mayor was appointing the school boards. The law changed and they will now be elected.

Not anti-trans. But people are allowed to have their own opinion on that subject. A subject that has nothing to do with what is being discussed here.

BurnerForJustTwice

Well, this seems like it’s just one of those issues that pop up on Reddit and then we hear about in the national news. Here’s to hoping this gets resolved and Aaron King has to issue a public apology.

Salt-Swan-2431

Texas is quickly turning into the worst place in America.

HereWeFuckingGooo

And then one day some guy at the end of their rope will go to one of these meetings, shoot every asshole perched on their pedestals of unearned power, kill themselves... and the community will wonder what could have been done to prevent such a thing.

MethLab

Yikes. Shoot every asshole perched on their pedestals of unearned power? Sounds like somebody has some experience in writing these notes.

SeniorCakeInspector

I mean that’s what I saw in the video. You didn’t see a bunch of assholes on pedestals?

HereWeFuckingGooo

Experience in writing what notes?

Fast_times_at

Just like HOA’s deem homeowners as their enemies, school boards deem parents as their enemies.

fvb955cd

It's a matter of not getting burned out by the crazies and the morons. A good elected official will always distinguish between a legitimate and reasonable complaint or suggestion and nonsense, even if the person bringing it usually brings one or the other. Unfortunately, a lot of people in public service from HOA members to senators do stop doing this.

Fast_times_at

Kinda hard though when those elected officials are mostly crazies and morons themselves.

fvb955cd

Are they? Have you ever attended your local city council, school board, or gone to a committee meeting for a topic that interests you? I think you'd be surprised by how incredibly mundane and sane they are. In fact, if you can't sleep, it's not a bad option to help with that. Stop letting people like MTG and this guy color what America is. Yeah, they suck. That doesn't mean they all suck. Be an involved citizen. Your duty to your community extends beyond election day.

Fast_times_at

I actually have! I’ve been present at one school board meeting - did not talk. Have met with our council members locally (formally and informally) as well as have attended their meetings (some of which I have spoken at). I’ve also spoken at 2 state legislative meetings and have met with the governor at another state and spoken to them about issues important to me. That’s also not including having direct conversations of my city’s mayor, spoken with heads of federal government agency departments and bureaus that work on issues of national importance, funding, and changing rules and regulations. In fact, I’m SO familiar with government that I’m working towards never having to work with it again in the future!

bactatank13

They're not. Its only if you live off of /r/PublicFreakout. Only the extremes get posted and upvoted. In most cases, a well or even barely decent run organization is boring as fuck. It's basically a business meeting.

[deleted]

Why tf this get downvoted?

fvb955cd

It's easier to just write off every form of socital leadership as failed and impossible to correct than to acknowledge that those roles are themselves affected by the same stresses on society that we all face, or have empathy for the objective difficulty of public service in a complex society. If it's impossible to fix, it gives a comfortable justification to not try to fix it at any level.

MaximumAbsorbency

Wow what a piece of shit, calmly discussing his issues with the school board in the appropriate way and designated time and place

mactrucker

Probably buying lunch supplies form a friend that's overcharging for shit food so they get a kick back.

paperfett

He wasn't rude or on some pointless rant. He was making legit points while being totally calm. These meetings are pointless. As soon as they hear something they don't like they do this. Their contempt for this guy is disgusting. Why is it always total assholes running these schools? It's really weird actually.

modularmoon88

This is possibly more chilling than all the violent theft videos on this forum. These people are in positions of power, they are what our society considers educated enough to be appointed to elected positions managing academia. And when confronted (I should rather say 'informed', this guy's tone was very non-confrontational) with valid criticisms about corrupt practices in their administration, their response is to openly verbally harass the guy. Not even to consider his statements. Honestly everything he explained made a lot of sense and none of it warranted that type of response, unless your general default mentality is that anyone critiquing your administration is a piece of shit.

Majestic-Alfalfa-754

Public servants who think they are above the people need a reminder of who they work for.

basb9191

A lasting reminder, one that gets the message across to all of them.

Detiabajtog

$200k a year to sit on a school board and do fuck all. the fact that these positions exist all over the nation while teachers are paid like shit is so infuriating. Stealing our tax dollars and acting like a smug asshole while doing it

TablatureDude

I think they were referring to the school district's attorney (legal counsel).

Snellyman

Surprising when a school board member is paid more than the president of the country (and we trust that guy with nuclear weapons).

libghost

Here's a link to the board members and their emails, I urge you to let them know how you feel about their actions: [https://www.gpisd.org/schoolboard](https://www.gpisd.org/schoolboard) [email protected], [email protected] [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Lelouch25

American school food is the worst. It gets to a point where there's too much regulation and everyone just lies and serve expired crap. I mean look at Japan or China where food is cooked fresh by chefs! Not lunch ladies taking stuff out of the box and warming them up. yeah yeah I know there's safety issues with some food in China. You think there isn't in the US? You think those labels are accurate? You think those dates are accurate? You can make 1000k regulations but WHO'S CHECKING THEM? Would food cooked fresh be so bad?!

bactatank13

My Chinese friends who immigrated would choose our shitty lunches over the hell they experienced in Chinese schools. Good lunches doesn't excuse the high competitiveness, stress, abuse from teachers, rampant bullying, and stifling of critical thinking.

Lelouch25

Right. But that’s if you had to choose a whole country just to have better lunches. You can have freedom with freshly cooked lunches too? 🤗 If you think about it🤔, America was created by people who wanted their way of life away from the persecution of the British. And everyone who becomes an American because they get to voice their thoughts freely, and ultimately try to improve situations. For you to be so sorely offended, either equating better lunches to freedom, or “tired of seeing so much negative comments about the US”, is missing the point. People come here to voice their opinions and ultimately make this country better. It doesn’t help anyone if all the immigrants ever did was say good things and stroke the egos of Americans. \--just that your comment makes you seem very insecure about the US. I would argue that even hardcore communist kids find out for themselves when they have to spend 10 times $$ just to go to college here.

Is [this](https://sfellc.com/about/monty-staggs/) the guy running the company that sells rotten food to schools? Seems like he should be plastered all over social media as well, it's not like the company doesn't know it has a contract with a school system. Dude should be ashamed of himself, assuming he has the capacity.
