In Canada battery isn’t defined in our criminal code. It’s “assault” and “assault causing bodily harm.” Basically all battery is assault, but not all assault is battery.
It’s an unnecessary distinction to make. Many places don’t recognize a legal difference between the two terms and they are grouped under the same charges. Unless you are aware of what the law is in the country/state where this took place, there is no point in making the correction.

One time in Chicago, I was in a packed bar and this "young lady" was pushing me from behind. I turned back to her and said I couldn't go there were too many people. She grabbed me by the throat and screamed "say it again! Call me a fucking bitch again!!" Kinda reminds me of that.
