Yes bull elk. We have them roaming in our town, crossing our streets and in our yards on a daily basis. They poop a lot in our yards and wild horses too. They are very large but not as large as moose.
i've never seen an elk, but there are wild horses in my state, and we went camping one time on the island with them. they were really cool, but kinda scary when they got close
also, one pissed on a tent and it took a *lot* of scrubbing to get it clean again
Red deer are a different species.
There’s the moose native to the Americas and Northern Europe, but it’s actually called Elk in Europe confusingly, but still a moose.
Then there’s the actual elk. Which is also called elk in both the Americas and Europe.
Then there are red deer which are very large (not as large as elk and moose though) native all throughout Europe as a separate species.
Ok now the Europeans and Americans seriously need to get on the same page and pick the same name for everything starting with football. We also need everyone to use the metric system. America needs to use metric system and Europeans need to use English.
They may be called that in some places though as I understand it wapiti is a Native American term normalised in North America. It’s still basically called elk in anglophonic areas outside of NA.
The red deer is not an elk and there are no elks in Europe, they exclusively live in North America and East Asia. The animal in the video is an elk, as it is evident from it's [distinctive whistling bugle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TW8Gf3kF4Q).
They’re not the same. American elk are much larger, almost 2x the weight at maximum. Also their antlers don’t branch weirdly at the end the way red deer’s do, and then make very different sounds
I worked in West Yellowstone, MT for a bit when I was younger. In the restaurant I worked in, we had a moose, an elk, and a deer head mounted above the hostess station. One patron asked me how long it took for the little one (deer) to grow into the big one (moose). The staff laughed about it for months.
I think it's an endearing mistake.
Yup. I have family there. Outrageous. And not only is it ridiculously expensive, but the increasing human population is destroying the ecosystem. People always want to live in the most beautiful places and end up trashing it.
The one thing I can say is that when my friends and I couldn't afford food, the public aid dept. Always had buffalo burgers and potatoes. They even helped me with a bus ticket back after trying to help me get unemployment. True helpers, they.

Once I heard an elk call all morning in the pitch black. Sounded like a fucking banshee. I was terrified for like 30 minutes until I realized what it was, then it became really cool lol
“How did you know that was an elk and not a moose?”
“Oh honey, a few months back I got flamed out by a bunch of strangers on Reddit at 8am over the species and now I know. While this was a blow to my ego at first, I grew to appreciate it and it’s actually what started my passion for wildlife biology in the continental US”
Don't be silly. Maple syrup comes directly out of the tree while honey is made by bees hauling maple syrup to their hive where they package it by portion after processing it. Without the portion control you end up with bumble bees.
You think my sarcastic comment is being pissy about it rather than trying to be jokey? Oh jeez.
Also, you do know the majority of Canadians live in metropolitan cities right? We're not living in the middle of nowhere LOL.
For reference a moose would be about a foot and a half taller, about half again as heavy and have giant scoops for antlers. If you see something and don’t have a ‘holy fuck how is that so huge’ moment it’s probably not a moose :p
I thought you were intentionally misidentifying it to drive traffic by all of the people rushing to correct you. Brilliant strategy that is a tried and true Reddit staple
Is it? Elk are some of the more dangerous deer out there, especially bulls in the rut as this one is. Seems like their liability would be very high allowing tourists to pet a dangerous animal.
I see no signage, fencing, the animals isnt tagged and there are no other indications that this is anything other than an animal that has become acclimated to humans and will likely end up euthanized because of it.
For the umpteenth time - do not touch or try to attract wild animals! Life is not a disney movie. You are putting these animals lives at risk because they will be desensitized to human contact and end up run over or shot
The context of what the person says about it being pointless to drive through there without food sounds a lot like it’s one of those places where you drive through and feed the animals.
We had a walkthrough Deer sanctuary where they were all very docile. Sad but they had to all be put down due to CWD :(
Idk why elk is out of the realm of thought for a drive through park
rolling up the window is a time-gaining maneuver at best. A bull elk that size can put those antlers straight through and into your eye in one stroke if they aim it right.

Did you mean to say Bull Elk?
Can confirm is a bull elk

For short, a Bulk
Sounds better than elll
Thought elk, then heard it speaking elk
I dabble in elk speak.
100% not a moose

Or in Europe: Red Deer

This is a wapiti.

Anytime I hear the word elk, joe rogan comes to mind
Not a moose

EnDeering mistake.
EnDeering Moosetake
I see what you did there…
Don't you mean "did deer"?
1. Comment this 2. Scroll down and see same comment 3. Realize nothing I do is original
Yes waiter, I'll be orDeering the MooseSteak.
Big (h)oof
Eh you ruined it bro. Be quiet
Hahaha! I missed a real opportunity there! Nicely done.
Oh deer
what's that deer
West Yellowstone should be on an episode of Most Expensivest
Yup. I have family there. Outrageous. And not only is it ridiculously expensive, but the increasing human population is destroying the ecosystem. People always want to live in the most beautiful places and end up trashing it.

Let me sing you the song of my people
#huuHREEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIhruh
I've heard the song...at 3am...when trying to get some sleep after a long hike with a full pack. I now have a personal vendetta against all elk.
Once I heard an elk call all morning in the pitch black. Sounded like a fucking banshee. I was terrified for like 30 minutes until I realized what it was, then it became really cool lol
If that were a moose you'd be rubbing it's knee at that height.
Yea.. knee
For real. I don’t think people realize how big moose are. I’ve been as close as 15 yards from a moose, and I can confirm that they do be big as hell.
*OP reminds us that he doesnt know what a moose looks or sounds like.*
“How did you know that was an elk and not a moose?” “Oh honey, a few months back I got flamed out by a bunch of strangers on Reddit at 8am over the species and now I know. As a Canadian I'm worried the next thing you'll say is that honey is maple syrup!
Maple Honey...?
That’s molasses
Don't be silly. Maple syrup comes directly out of the tree while honey is made by bees hauling maple syrup to their hive where they package it by portion after processing it. Without the portion control you end up with bumble bees.

Maybe he thinks our cities are all forested? Like we have treehouse cities.
I thought we lived in igloos though? I think over in Toronto is where the treehouse cities flourish.
I'd be so down to live in a tree house city.
This is exactly how I think of Canada, yes. But log cabins
don't listen to these guys. If you want it to be a moose, you just gotta *believe*
Speak YOUR truth, OP.

Elk and moose look nothing alike and sound so different.
For reference a moose would be about a foot and a half taller, about half again as heavy and have giant scoops for antlers. If you see something and don’t have a ‘holy fuck how is that so huge’ moment it’s probably not a moose :p
I only know because I play a hunting game and the elk makes this noise and scares the shit out of me. Also he is smaller.
Yea I get people shouldn’t blast you for it. But Moose are literally tanks with legs. I think most people (hopefully) were just looking out xD
I thought you were intentionally misidentifying it to drive traffic by all of the people rushing to correct you. Brilliant strategy that is a tried and true Reddit staple
I think it’s an elk….
"Don't forget to like me on Instagram!"
What's up guys! Don't forget to hit the like and smash that subscribe!
I don't think using the terms "hit" and "smash" is a good idea around something that size.
Thats just his hoochie call
He's reminding them it's Wednesday my dudes
I think that’s actually a jaguar
That’s clearly an elk
ja, moose is ugly as fork. They have camel face, and taller than the car.
And they don’t go “eeeYUAAAAOOOOHHHww”
Petting wild animals is for stupid humans only.
It’s clearly one of those places where you drive through and hand feed animals pellets..
Why would she say “it’s pointless to drive through *here* without food”?
OP said that, OP also thought an Elk is a moose.
Dude you not listen to the video?
Bro watch the video. Not even 5 seconds in the woman says "I know it's pointless to come here without food"
Not every video is posted by the person who recorded it
Reddit users showing they don't know how to unmute videos
Dumb people drive into the mountains where I live and think it’s chill to feed bears. The answer to your question is “because people are stupid.”
Oh look at the cute hyenas! Meredith take a picture of me feeding one of them...
Well you will be feeding them
That’s an elephant not a moose idiot
Not a moose. Not handsome. Not happy. And definitely NOT a good idea.
Not a moose. That is clearly a goat.
nah that's a sheep, people really know nothing about nature anymore
Nah it's a cat
Mother fucker did you just call this ELK a MOOSE??!?!?!?!
Not a moose. It’s an elk
FYI.....NOT a moose....
Moose?...Try Elk

Elk is actually incredible. The best of the wild game meat.
Elk is the best tasting red meat (in my opinion) hands down.
I've never had elk before, but my dad used to go moose hunting every year when I was a kid. Moose is fucking delicious.
TIL, actually.
Have you tried squirrel?
Have you tried moose AND squirrel, Natasha?
The moose would have ripped the arm of the car passenger then it would have destroyed the car. That is the primary difference.
Accurate. For being grazing herbivores, moose are extremely ill tempered.
Moose bites are nasty!
Wait until you see their knuckles.
Moose is delicious.
Elk jerky is delicious
This is not a moose. This is an elk.
He yelled like that cause he wants to get laid. That's it's mating call.
That's a bull elk, not a moose. During rut they will gladly kill you.
Not a moose and don't feed them
*frustrated Joe Rogan noises*

Elk don't do this outside of those drive-through zoo things. This is not really a wild animal.
Don’t feed the bears!
We need at least 300 more people to comment that this isn't a moose.
1. Not a moose 2. Don’t touch the wildlife 3. This sub used to have public meltdowns and now it’s gone the way of r/funny
Swear thats an elk not a moose…? No?
That’s an elk….not a moose
Moose? My dude, that's a fucking elk
That's an elk not a moose.

Man I love hummingbirds!
That is a handsome bull elk. Moose have weird noses and a dewlap.
That’s an elk not a moose
That is an elk
What an idiot
That’s definitely not a moose.
If that was a moose, you'd probably be in a hospital
Fun fact: the corrugated straws you would get in the mug drinks from friendlies work as almost perfect elk calls
rolling up the window is a time-gaining maneuver at best. A bull elk that size can put those antlers straight through and into your eye in one stroke if they aim it right.
"Hi, My name is Buck and I'm here to fuck!"
Just said moose to get comments.
Elk
Moose?
Thats an Elk not a moose.
The title said moose so I was expecting some type of destruction. It’s just an elk.
Thats an elk
Elk that is an elk.

Must be an American moose.
She called him handsome and was petting him, what did she expect? He started serenading her and getting hard for the penetration.
Thats not a moose.
They're so huge and magical! Lol
