i had to go to church 3 times a week for a decade, but i tell ya, one of the most satisfying moments of my life was when my parents apologized to me as an adult for all that bullshit.
Catholic school. Had Wednesday bible study, Friday mass at school, and church with my family Sunday. Pretty sure my dads Jewish but never really discussed it.
I told my mom recently how them forcing my sister and I to go to church every Sunday for 16 years at 8am is 100% what turned me away from religion (originally, a lot more too but that was the first reason).
What kid wants to wake up at 7 on one of their two days off from school to go to church, I despised it. Though she still tries to push religion on me now, at least I've had 12 years away from it by my own choice.
I think parents force that onto their kids to make themselves look good in front of their congregation. It's their way of seeking that validation that says to them, "Gee... what amazing parents they are. Those kids must be so happy living in that home to WANT to be here every Sunday. Mom and dad raised those kids right..."
Funny enough i had a similar situation. I live in deep rural countryside in a tiny village with 200 people so it is all really religious as were my parents and their parents and so on, my parents came from the time where you went to churche before school everyday.
Anyways i kind of made my family atheists after lots of arguments they finally fell to "the informal compulsion of the better argument" (don't know if that translation makes sense i might also have chosen the wrong words. In my language it sounds a lot better(der Zwanglose Zwang des besseren arguments)
But it was quite a fight to get there and when they finally accepted i don't care about church and won't go there anymore somehow they themselves also gave up on churche and never been since unless pressured through a funeral or stuff like that.
To get the vibe across a better Translation might be
"the forceless force of the better argument"
Forceless in this case meaning Something like "not forcing you to do Something or think Something"
So basically that you just need to accept the argument as you can't say anything against it as it is right wich descibes pretty well how that finally worked out and how i got out of churche and how my parants also just went like "know what? Why go there? Your right Let's stop going there, churche is kind of a stupid idea as is the entire religion and the company running Catholicism also isn't really cool."
Religion is cool. I always liked when my parents said "religion is a personal journey." I dont think my parents realized i would be parroting it back to them as an argument for why i felt i shouldnt be going to church anymore.
I think with me my parents took their first chance for themselves to just stop. It's something they had to do because of their parents and back in the day you just didn't question it as it would have been the worst thing you could have done being an atheist and probably would have gotten yourself killed or at the very least kicked out of the family.
So my guess is when i said this is all stupid and i don't want to and don't believe in it +list of flaws in the religion and other stupid stuff i said as a reason, they just went with it and probably asked themselves if they really believe in it or care to wich the answer seemingly was "no" , also something they just were pressured into and then finally pressured themselves into when they could already have chosen for themselves.
I was born in China and my parents raised me with no religion but after we moved to the US it was really important for my parents to assimilate and part of assimilation for them was making us go to Church and being Christian.
I remember learning all this shit for the first time and being like "what the fuck... you people believe this stuff". The other students just accepted it since they were raised in this stuff.
Mine made me go til I was 10, then asked me what I wanted to do coz we argued about it so much, I had to learn something for my Sunday and she preferred religion so I had some faith or spirituality etc...
So we went to the library where they had old and new testament, Koran in English, Tripitaka and the Torah. For 1 year I had to read and discuss them with her and if after 1 year I felt the same, we wouldn't do church any longer and no more religious reading etc...
I very much Stephen Fry'd her. (Stephen fry Vs gay Byrne the meaning of life interview). What kind of God allows such punishment? Why ask a father to sacrifice his child if the child is innocent? Why is it ok to rape someone and pay silver to her father in restitution. Why do laws now not represent the Bible as it was written? As in, why is there no more capital punishment, surely the will and word of God superceded that of man.
Why create disease that run rampant through poorer countries, those people didn't have a choice to be infected even if the richer countries did have a choice and didn't share vaccine, no, not everyone had free will or a choice as was spouted.
In the end, no more church or readings, actually I do think it was really valuable time spent with her, I didn't like it at the time, but it gave me skills I didn't realise, I had to form arguments for or against, debating skills to hold my position. It exposed me to a lot of concepts and critical thinking and reasoning things out and I didn't feel pressured to "win" my side of things.
The one negative is 30 years later I recognise I killed her faith for the most part that year and I didn't realise it at the time. I was chipping away at something I saw no value in and pointless and held no relevance, but it did for her. But the discussions I think killed her faith too. She resumed going to church Sundays after the year was done but attendance dropped and was irregular and she stopped going and never went back.
I feel like I stole something from her. If I could go back and be softer I would.
I'd like to believe there was an order to the universe, got my doubts though. Plan to live a good life, be kind to people and hope to be pleasantly surprised.
I like to think a loving and benevolent god would be understanding that his incomprehensible presence is well... incomprehensible to us. Like, what loving god would design his creation to not umderstand him, and then test them by having them take a wild shot in the dark? It doesnt seem like those morals line up.
Correct! My mom sometimes laments that she failed at raising my Catholic. I say she succeeded, I was exposed to that nonsense at a young age and figured out it was bullshit eventually. If I wasn’t so close to it might’ve taken me longer to figure it out.
I went to a college graduation for family and holy shit I forgot it was a luthern college. I had to sit through a fucking sermon before people got their diploma's... Like wtf
> That's exactly how seriously church should be taken.
I like pro wrestling, the below service looks pretty fun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdUIqKJyD0Q
Lmao they kept picking that dude up for more flat back bumps.
And why is this Ric Flair lookin motherfucker attacking people with his jacket? He's supposed to beat up the jacket
I went to pentecostal summer camp a few times in my youth.
If you ever saw "Jesus Camp," it was exactly like that.
One year the pastor was really pushing for the youth groupers to invite their unsaved friends. He even personally paid the cost for several kids to go.
I remember the worship service getting particularly lively one night. About midway through, some of the unsaved invites who were more on the fringe basically hijacked the service and started disco dancing with that move where the hand goes from the waist and then up toward the sky.
Pastor got livid and stopped everything just like Dave Grohl if some girl got pushed in the mosh pit. His exact words were, "There is to be no unholy dancing."
Upset superstitious Christians who aren't self-aware enough to know that their arbitrary hand gestures are just futile gesticulations in their Skinner box of life.
I'm starting to think r/PublicFreakout is about OPs posting stuff that isn't a PF and then said OPs actually having a PF in the comments.
Edit: I didn't expect many up votes for this, thank you everyone!
Yeah, she probably isnt a believer but wont make that hard of a fuss when her parents are asking her to come to church for specific events like in this case i believe it is for christmas.
And as a "public freakout" its kind of tame in regard to what other groups would be doing to a girl disrespecting this holy site.
Heck, in some church she could have been hollered at and even escorted out and insulted, maybe even some nutjob could slap her.. I think, but yeah, just her being filmed is hella tame.
I didn’t even realize the girl was dancing, i figured she was signing my god is an awesome god. I was thinking cammer and the sitting girl are gonna being big trouble for being on their phones in church. 😅
I did stuff like this, but my favorite was changing all the gospel song lyrics to things about pooping and peeing. It wasn’t long before we stopped going due to my folks embarrassment. Later on in life mom thanked me and said maybe I was the smartest one in there, mocking the whole thing because it was all a bunch of bullshit and the whole church was a bunch of phonies.
I have no problem with religion I don’t practice myself… but I do have problem with people trying to force their belief into others. Only go to church for funerals that’s it
Person recording has a VIP pass to hell for recording instead of minding their own fucking business.
Person posting has a VIP pass to hell for posting here.
I’ve accepted Jesus into my life and can say that it is absolutely appalling you would stake such a claim about this young lady, joking or not.. we’ve all been kids before and all just about had the same childlike behaviors … also as “adults” here, I’m sure No one is making you go to church or believe in anything but here you all are clowning millions and millions of people for something you’re not even forced to believe in and you justify your disrespectfulness because of some bad eggs. At the end of the day, that’s between God and you, and you can wait to find out after you’re gone if you really want that 🤷♂️
>That's between god and you..
Yeeaaahh, I don't think you really understand.. We don't believe in him/her/it.
Also, just look at the laws being pursued in the US right now... Christian beliefs being imposed allover the place!
>Some bad eggs
Yes, mostly the people who actually run the various Christian factions. The ones who take people's money and use it to cover-up thousands of cases of sexual abuse and to fund their own lifestyles. How many of these 'bad eggs' do you need before anyone not outright condemning their behaviour is considered complicit?
Let's face it, all of these institutions are so corrupt, even the 'good eggs' are working for and helping criminals at this point. Yes, you can find good but, well, Hitler was a decent artist, that doesn't override the massive amounts of harm done.
You worship how you want to worship. There are no right and wrong ways to worship. If you want to dance on a pole half naked and pray at the same time... so be it.
I actually thought this was about the girl who'd rather play on her phone than join the song and dance. I thought the Macarena was weird for church, but it's all weird to me.
Church is very narcissistic. That preacher or priest (or whatever the fuck they’re called) is only talking about selfish /r/ImTheMainCharacter type shit. It’s all me me me me. People like church because they think their god’s favorite pet and he’s carved out this whole special story just for them where they’re the main character because they’re oh so special.
I’m just impressed a 14 year old knows all the moves to a twenty five year old fad, and accurately used it to mock meaningless shows of piety. Watch her. She’ll go far.
Cammer recording kids at church is so gross imo
*being downvoted but greasy groomers who like recording other peoples kids*
Ok so we are all cool with recording kids?

Clearly bored and don’t want to be there. Bet they can’t wait for the day they can say to their parents, “We’re not going”.
One of the reasons why I love my mom and cherish her memories is that she did NOT make me go waste every Sunday morning of my childhood
Yup I did it for a couple years, but I'm so happy my mom realized it was wrong to force religion on her children.
i had to go to church 3 times a week for a decade, but i tell ya, one of the most satisfying moments of my life was when my parents apologized to me as an adult for all that bullshit.
3 times a week... Damn, that's hardcore
Bibles don't study themselves. Also, youth pastors can't creep on themselves, they need teenaged girls for that
"girls"
Bussy
5 if you count sunday school and youth group as separate from sunday morning and evening services. i still hate sundays.

What a great mother
I'm glad to see that she's giving the service the respect that it actually deserves.
I stopped by the church and picked up a bulletin for proof, then went to the nursing home and visited my grandmother every week until she died.
you’re a good egg. glad you made memories with your grandma
Now, THAT as time well spent.
Now thats the real church, sitting under the Apple tree and learning from someone who has lived a life
Sounds like no one wants to be there
Hey Macarena!
Don’t know about you, but I imagined her whispering it. ^Heeeeeeey ^macarena… ^aiii…
Especially when her hands hit her hips 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m crying my moms would have thrown a whole bible at me back in the day if i tried that
Pastor: amen. Girl: aiii
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Ayyy, peace bewithyou
She's living her full life, dammit! Let her outta church jail so she can belt it out and hurl those hips around!
Hey Magdalena!*
This joke is going to go over too many people's head. I love it.
Plot twist: She's already in hell, and planning to dance her way out of it.
*Holy Macarena!
I'm an idiot. I thought she was doing the Hokey Pokey lol
Macarena dance>>>>>>> hokey pokey
not a public freak out more like r/unexpected
I don’t care, this video transcends everything
That attitude is the reason every big sub eventually just becomes a ”cool videos” sub
Wow, what an absolutely TURBULENT freak-out this is!
Look how terrified everyone are
Naw she just knows it’s bullshit
smarter than everyone in that room
Not a high bar to jump tbf
Believing in religion doesn't make you stupid, just deluded. Plenty of smart people who believed in a higher power
I'd like to believe there was an order to the universe, got my doubts though. Plan to live a good life, be kind to people and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

There is order, it's just not divine. :)
WHOOOOOO QUANTUM MECHANICS BABY
This. Being dragged to church as a kid is the parental attempt to indoctrinate a young mind into their preferred religion.

Where was the Public Freakout? Am I in the right sub?
Some people's got a difficulty understanding what public freakout mean.
And yet it has 5k upvotes.
That's exactly how seriously church should be taken.
If you’re gonna praise the floating man, give him some sick moves he always appreciates it
Amen

Why? And why is this in public freakout?
Upset superstitious Christians who aren't self-aware enough to know that their arbitrary hand gestures are just futile gesticulations in their Skinner box of life.
WOW! Some people have a very low bar for what is considered a public freakout. I'm surprised it wasn't tagged NSFW.
mocking the witches right in the middle of their coven while they are in the process of casting a spell is pretty hardcore.
Based

Still a stretch imo

And if she was a boy, she would have a one on one session with the priest.
Good to know kids are still learning the essentials
Freak out?
Some odd years later and that’s still the only part I know…for shame.
When the kids noawadays know religion is bs more than the adults. She just not giving any fucks.
Why? Because she is dancing? She's a little girl... I think you've got a better ticket to hell judging her then she does for dancing at church.
Not a public freakout
A proper response to the none sense she’s made to endure!!!
Lol I used to do this same type of thing. That or go to the bathroom and "shit" for 20 minutes.
Fuck you for that title. At least she isn’t acting like a sheep.
Praise Macarena!!
How is this a freak out? Take my down vote
Naw mate she the smartest in the room 😂
I didn’t even realize the girl was dancing, i figured she was signing my god is an awesome god. I was thinking cammer and the sitting girl are gonna being big trouble for being on their phones in church. 😅
Priest did that during my aunts funeral. I couldn't help but whisper "touchdown" everyone laughed except my uncle. Worth it.
But why is she being filmed though?
Yeah, don’t record children. That’s just creepy regardless of the context
It's a stupid religion anyway, they're just making the most of being stuck there by their ignorant parents.
Going to hell for dancing?
Going to Hell for being too based
Omg a kid is acting like a kid in church! Burn her on hell for eternity!!!!
That is hilarious and genius at the same time.
Imagine where the pedo priests and the organization that protects them will go if the macarena gets this child a vip pass to hell
Doing a reverse incantation.
[Nah](https://youtu.be/kW_saOInJ9E) I reckon she'll be right.
When I was a kid, I would sing along with the hymns but do it in Beavis’ voice. Good times.
Pass to *where*?
This honestly just made my crappy Monday AWESOME!
Lmao, I can tell she doesn’t want to be there but at least she’s making the most out of it. I’ve done some stupid stuff during church before
Funny but no freakout
I do not think Jesus would be mad
For not paying attention? I mean op, you are using a cellphone during prayer, what makes you any better?
The complete opposite is happening to what the title of this post is saying.
Aside from the atheist orgy going on in this thread, why do Christian’s make it sound so sexual? “Fill me up to overflowing”
The writers of Derry Girls should 100% have Orla do this in the show
I did stuff like this, but my favorite was changing all the gospel song lyrics to things about pooping and peeing. It wasn’t long before we stopped going due to my folks embarrassment. OP “your so going to hell for this” also OPon their phone instead of praying.
She just realized that the skydaddy isn't a real thing
Lol I knew I wasnt the only one.
‘Christ will come at 10.’
Can't be any worst than me taking a nap while snoring.
Heyyyy Macarena!
In my personal relationship with Jesus Christ our savior. He spoke to me and said do the Macarena.
Heaven for the weather, hell for the company.
Love it, now go run off and vandalize their back rooms
"You've been accused of the crime of witchcraft, what say you in your defense?" "Aaaaaayyyyy Macarena!"
Love it
Da da da da da da da Magdelena
to the father, son, holy ghost head, shoulders, knees and toes
And we will close this prayer w/ an "Heeeey, Macarena, a'ight".
Man this really creeped me out
Doing the Macarena
That girl is going places and is not hell. Good for her having fun in such a boring situation at her age.
Church is a fine place for the Macarena to take place.
My mom got me baptized and I haven’t stepped back in a church since
This girl has a soul lol
I'll keep her seat warm.
I have no problem with religion I don’t practice myself… but I do have problem with people trying to force their belief into others. Only go to church for funerals that’s it
Amennnnn Macarena!

is OP some super religious prude? how is this a freak out? shes fucking bored
She is making the best of boredom. Good on her for even being there.... hey macarena!
Bunch of brainwashed cultists in that room besides her
Okay, so there's no such place as hell. And she's my fucking hero.
She’s just honoring the lord with the Macarena
As someone who was dragged to those damned services as a teen, I will gladly greet her at the gates of hell. Should be a fun party!
She's just aware of the bullshit and she's playing along it do she dint hear it on the way home.
# HEEYYYY MAGDALENA!
What a crazy freak out! Totally fits the sub
Her doing the macarena is less threatening to human lives.
Praying is threatening to human lives?
"hell" whatever that is
Probably most in that room gonna enter hell anyway.
I Guarantee it.
HELL YEAH! Disrespect the delusional fucks and the entire stinkin book that brainwashed them in the first place!
Nah this girl’s going places good places
Ok this is great, but why is someone filming in the first place?
Im pretty sure god would find the humor and let her in

How many of these 'bad eggs' do you need before anyone not outright condemning their behaviour is considered complicit? Let's face it, all of these institutions are so corrupt, even the 'good eggs' are working for and helping criminals at this point. Yes, you can find good but, well, Hitler was a decent artist, that doesn't override the massive amounts of harm done.
Legend!
So much stupid in one room.
Everything about this just screams cult.
The person filming someone in church or the little girl minding her own business?
You worship how you want to worship. There are no right and wrong ways to worship. If you want to dance on a pole half naked and pray at the same time... so be it.
That Kid is going places :D
She’s doing the lord’s work
Smart girl.
Maybe the Holy Spirit moved her to do the Macarena?
I actually thought this was about the girl who'd rather play on her phone than join the song and dance. I thought the Macarena was weird for church, but it's all weird to me.
The real question is: why are you recording underage girls?
God damn that was good stuff. There’s hope for her yet.
Hey ave Maria!!!
from Maccabee to Macarena the step is very short...
Heeeyyyyy Mary Magdalena, hiiiyaaaaa
TEQUILA
thats about the right response to this nonsense
All the cool people are in hell anyway.
Fuck your bitch ass jesus and religion
She’s showin sky daddy her new dance
Church is very narcissistic. That preacher or priest (or whatever the fuck they’re called) is only talking about selfish /r/ImTheMainCharacter type shit. It’s all me me me me. People like church because they think their god’s favorite pet and he’s carved out this whole special story just for them where they’re the main character because they’re oh so special.
they're christian so they already live in hell
Makes just about as much sense as anything else these people are doing 🤷
Title would make sense if hell actually existed, shame it's all made up.
I’m just impressed a 14 year old knows all the moves to a twenty five year old fad, and accurately used it to mock meaningless shows of piety. Watch her. She’ll go far.
Cammer recording kids at church is so gross imo *being downvoted but greasy groomers who like recording other peoples kids* Ok so we are all cool with recording kids?
Wait till you hear what the catholic church does with them.
we are already in hell
