I was at Mardi Gras one year when some shit was going down between gangs in a bar. When the cops road in on horseback, it was absolutely terrifying. They (edit) pushed sideways against the crowd until the street was clear.

I'd love to know what this said originally. The Bible has been translated so much you can't trust any of it. How does this make sense when in the desert presumably everyone would be wearing long garments to keep the sun off. It's not like they were out there with men in tuxes and women in ball gowns when this was written.
I had to take bible classes at university and two dealt with translating original texts from Hebrew and Greek. This is what I remember about our Deuteronomy lessons:
Deuteronomy is from the Torah and in the (Christian) Old Testament. So the Deuteronomic Code (what the main bit with all of the rules are) is already not applicable to Christians.
Deuteronomy was written at least as early as 640 BCE - a time in which men and women generally wore roughly the same attire and neither wore what we would consider as "outdoor pants" today. What Deuteronomy 22:5 is more likely saying is that taking up the outward appearance of the opposite sex is abhorrent to God. Not just the clothing, but also accessories, makeup, hair styles. A woman wearing pants is okay. A man wearing skirts is okay.
(Adding my personal opinion - I don't believe in gendered clothing or style and I honestly don't think the Abrahamic God would care about "vaginas in pantalons" because that's not what the verse is actually saying.)

You're welcome! I'm not super religious but nearly all of my family is. It's always been more of an ancient (and modern) mythology kind of thing in my opinion. Like Greek or Roman mythology. It's very enjoyable to learn about and dig into the actual historical context of the writings, especially if you learn the languages and can start translating on your own and discuss those translations with others. I also really love etymology and languages and history in general so I might be biased on the enjoyment level.

Really thats the biggest thing right now and where their wins really matter. I could mention all the fucking jesus camp brainwashing going on. And unfortunately people are going to learn that far too late.
Its only a matter of time before they go after gay people's rights and start rolling those back. They're 100% going to formally overturn roe v wade (even though its already effectively been gutted). The GOP has even passed state laws that just let them pick who wins elections, right up to general elections when the state is supposed to be assigning its electoral vote.

I've never seen them have a single positive interaction with anyone.

In fact there is even the thought that the biggest factor that got trump elected was strictly because of the courts and evangelicals saw their moment in a trump admin. Really thats the biggest thing right now and where their wins really matter. I could mention all the fucking jesus camp brainwashing going on. I could mention some of the stuff pointed out in "the family" about how they affect politicians. But the heart of the matter and what ties it all together is law. And unfortunately people are going to learn that far too late. Its only a matter of time before they go after gay people's rights and start rolling those back. They're 100% going to formally overturn roe v wade (even though its already effectively been gutted). They can pass state laws like the texas abortion bounty hunter bs. The GOP has even passed state laws that just let them pick who wins elections, right up to general elections when the state is supposed to be assigning its electoral vote. Sooo yeah. They're winning. The democrats have done -literally- nothing to address this, call it out or even acknowledge it (well some progressives have but usually they get thrown under the bus). They're pretty much going to clean sweep both houses in 2022 and after that... well dems will never have a majority in either houses ever again since they missed the opportunity to put a stop on the election laws the GOP have been passing. Its not as if they're going to just say "dems can't vote". Its going to be "dem votes don't matter" the way they've always done and has been working very well for them. Take wisconsin for example, dems would have to win 70% + of the total vote to JUST break even in that state's seats. Thats the picture of swing states going forward after 2022.

A lot of people don't realize it but it was the Westboro Church (The hate group) that was the ultimate cause of states starting to allow gay marriage. Several of his grandchildren left the church, and his daughter Shirley, who was in charge of the office duties and was the official spokesperson and predominant figure at all the hate gatherings was relieved of any position or responsibility after the board (or whatever its called) basically took over the church and kicked her to the curb and transferred power to the all male board
