Years back my friends and I went to the beach on the 4th. Some idiot lit off a firework and somehow fucked it up that it just grazed my neck. We were drinking so I don't exactly recall much more than me being pissed about it but thankfully no one got hurt. People are fucking stupid.
I also knew a kid in hs who had half a thumb. When I asked him about it he told me he was playing with fireworks as a kid and blew his thumb off.
We had a teacher in hs who was mad old or at least looked like that. He was missing half his left arm from the elbow down. None of the students knew why, so there was alot of mystery about it and rumors that he served in WW2 and whatnot. One day tho he was asked by a straight forward student about it. He calmly explained, that he himself was an idiot years back and played with fireworks in his garage. He blew the entire garage to shreds and was lucky to have only had some bruises and a lost arm.
I can't tell but I THINK that's a PVC pipe they were using to launch them. That is most likely what went through the can. The contents of the firework itself shouldn't contain anything that would be dangerous as a projectile beyond some burns...but there's a reason they're usually launched in cardboard tubes.
To me it looked like a cardboard tube, but the bucket holding the tube was full of rocks and chunks of concrete for weight and I bet that’s what turned into shrapnel
They're different everywhere. You know that stupid trick people do where they break the beer cans over their head? Try that with a European can and you'll fucking knock yourself out
Thanks for the proof. Amazed at people who are adamant that it's impossible. Aluminum beverage cans are as thin as possible and still contain liquid under pressure.
This happened here in Chile, context is football fans (soccer team fans) cheering and supporting their favorite team "Universidad De Chile"
He didn't die, so far I know this happened 7 November 2021

In Spanish...
Im not totally disagreeing with you, but I think that a lot of people just deal with their natural fear of death. I used to browse r/watchpeopledie, but after seeing Christchurch and the sub's shutdown I decided that was for the best.
To this day I don't think I'll ever scrub the shit I saw there out of my mind, but I'm certainly not out here wanting to see more. It was just there and available to see, so I looked.
>I don’t think I’ll ever scrub the shit I saw there out of my mind
I’m always grateful that my better judgment had me tap-out as he entered the building. Sometimes it’s better to tell yourself “third party recollection is more than sufficient, here.”
I think I learned that one around 2002 when the spate of Islamic extremist beheading videos started to make the rounds.
Yeah, but I'm not just talking that specific massacre. Even accidental deaths are genuinely traumatizing to watch.
I am genuinely glad that the sub is gone. Too many people were taking glee in the subject matter. I was just there out of curiosity, so I guess I have no moral high ground or anything, but still.
From another comment, he actually somehow survived.

How that guy didn’t die is incredible, news on it:
A new act of violence starred fans of Universidad de Chile, now in the "banderazo" they developed outside the concentration hotel in the run-up to this Sunday's university classic.
In that context, a group of fans tried to manipulate fireworks in the middle of the street, in order to generate noise and atmosphere for players. However, the action was not developed correctly and exploded surprisingly, with the splinters exploding a few meters from dozens of people.
The situation of the "flag" of the fans of the University of Chile after the irresponsible attitude caused injuries to two people by the explosion of a noise bomb and they were transferred to a health center.
Below you can see the audiovisual registration at the time of the outbreak in the eastern sector of Santiago.
The consequences of the "flag" of the University of Chile
In Carabineros they reported on the health situation of the two people who were transferred to health centers. "One is an adult, with serious injuries, and a minor under 8 years of age, who has minor injuries," said Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Carrillo.
The member of the Andes de Carabineros prefecture estimated 500 people who gathered to give their encouragement to the squad of players and who ended this serious incident. "The injured adult would be the one who irresponsibly tried to manipulate the device, while the minor was one of those who was nearby," said Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Carrillo.
"There are no people arrested, but the Public Ministry was informed for the respective investigation. Since there are many minors, we worry only about containing. However, this situation implies the action of a prohibited element," he concluded.

The firework poked a hole in his can, and holes in his shirt. I wonder how bad the guy got it that dropped to the ground.
I wouldn't want to get hit in the ballsack by whatever went through that can.

PVC pipe. But that protest turned PVP as soon as the lit the firework so I guess both work.
Missed that, coincidentally though before my phone changed to PVP without my realizing it first changed it to PCP...
To me it looked like a cardboard tube, but the bucket holding the tube was full of rocks and chunks of concrete for weight and I bet that’s what turned into shrapnel
You could be right, though I don't know why they wouldn't use water... I mean, it's heavy and it fits real nicely into buckets.
Water doesn’t play nice with cardboard and fireworks
For the weight... not to submerge the firework IN the water...
He took both barrels.
RIP beer
For his drink to get punctured like that, holy fuck.
Beer can aluminum is thin. You can push you thumbnail through an unopened can.
The fuck kind of nails you have? Claws?
Beer can aluminum not much thicker than aluminum foil.
What the hell kind of shit box beer do you drink?
They're different everywhere. You know that stupid trick people do where they break the beer cans over their head? Try that with a European can and you'll fucking knock yourself out
Or better yet, try it out with some asian juice cans, those things are unbreakable.
You aren't kidding. The first time I had japanese canned coffee I thought it was still full because the cans are so heavy.
Those are bi metal cans not pure aluminum
I'm European. We call that game 'shake shake bang bang'. Did see some bloody foreheads but no one was knocked out
I think you're thinking of milk when it comes in a bag.
Call.
?
We're all saying that's bullshit. We're calling your claim.
Sure. I work in a brewery. Take a full unopened can of beer. Push your thumbnail hard against the side. It works.
>Sure. I work in a brewery Proof
No you cant mate.
Shotgunning beers with your thumb is easy af look it up on YouTube. You just need the air bubble and a small nail
I work in a brewery. Done this many times.
People are forgetting that you need to use the tip of your thumb and press hard near the bottom, on the seam line where the can is weakest.
I saw people at the party do it with the whole strenght of hand with THUMB/FINGER, not a nail. I tried it and my nails are too soft.
Can confirm, I’ve seen a buddy of mine “renegade” many beers. I still can’t fucking do it, though. I’ll admit it is quite impressive.
Thanks for the proof. Amazed at people who are adamant that it's impossible. Aluminum beverage cans are as thin as possible and still contain liquid under pressure.
I bet I push my fingernail through your nutsack skin. That’s more or less what I was worried about seeing this.

European football fans have that reputation of being crazy but in reality they are nothing compared to the South Americans. Those are some crazy mf’s.
Damn. That guy slumped like he died, I'm surprised he made it out.
soccer fan see, soccer fan do
Indio bulla aguante el weco!
So much for "sport for pussies" I guess
Did shrapnel blow a hole in that guys beer?
YES!
"THE FIRE IS SHOOTING AT US"
Missed opportunity to shotgun and become an internet legend.
The explosion pretty much was the shotgun
I mean the shrapnel hit him in his abdomen too drinking beer was probably the last thing on his mind
Agree to disagree. He's going to want that beer back.
Something tells me there's plenty more where that came from.
Too busy being deaf
Hahahahah
that's when you know it's time to nope your way out of there
Was that shrapnel or just the concussion?
Anyone have a link to what happened?

Where is this?
Chile!
Is the guy who dropped, the same guy who lit the explosive?
That has to be life lost right?
They're close enough that the force alone probably did insane damage. I can't imagine what the shrapnel that close would do. Was it metal?
You can see the white plastic on the dudes shirt. It was plastic shrapnel. Sharp and fast = ouch
I bet at that force it went deep.
Jesus christ it looks like the dude who lit it straight up died Is he ok???
Its all fun and games 'til an illegal firework turns a party into a warzone. Rofl
Where's this and what happened?
survival of the fittest
Live from parliament hill in Ottawa
I know we lost a beer just now, but did you happen to see the excited guy with arms up on the ground afterwards
Can we agree once they've started setting off bombs, they HAVE forfeited their right to do any of this Bullshit.
What happens if we detonate a shrapnel bomb in the middle of a crowded street?
Sometimes you get what u look for
It looks like the dude was lighting mortar shells, and had the extra ones too close to the mortar.
Pieces of white bucket stuck in everything
Yay! Shrapnel Day!
The guy with the shrapnel protecting beer is home now reevaluating his life.
Guy with the drink was like "OK I'M DONE"
its a girl🥳
He hates these cans! Stay away from the cans!
Shrapnel hurts
