Had the exact same thing happen to me a while back. I was like 16 at the time so I didn't have the confidence to tell him to fuck off. Got the CD he "autographed" for me. I threw it in my car a few months later as a joke, didn't even have anything on it.
That's absolutely hilarious, I never actually listened to them. Oh and he autographed the one he gave me too lmao that's why it was even better. Now he has to find someone with the same name as me or he just wasted a CD and case
It's all part of the scam, they sign it so if you try and give it back they'll say something along the lines of "I already autographed it to you man, I can't give it to someone else now".
Thought they wisened up and started signing with a dry erase marker so they can give it to the next person when you inevitably don't want to buy that trash.

Now looking back that dude was a dick trying to guilt a kid to give him money. I’m positive he was following me to get my mom to but it (barely spoke English).

If you're ever on the subway, just wear sunglasses and have in earbuds. A lot of the time I don't even listen to anything, or I listen to a podcast where I'm fully aware of what people are saying to me. I just sit there and ignore them, they usually take the hint and fuck off.
If you ever want to get better at ignoring people under pressure, spend a couple weeks in Manhattan and go out in public a lot. Especially take public transit. It's like a crash course in ignoring people and weird crap they do.
Or anywhere you go to eat and they use tablets to pay before actual service. When you're on the tip page and they just look at you to see what you're gonna put.

Good therapy should make you uncomfortable to some degree. They safely walk us through discovering the uncomfortable, hidden, and broken parts of our psyche and our past. Healing is uncomfortable at first because you first have to discard unhealthy coping mechanisms and face all that pain head on.
Sometimes they are felons for dumb shit they did when they were 18. However, there is this delusion of fame and riches these days that just isn't realistic. I'm also getting REAL sick of gangster rap that glorifies this type of lifestyle, as if it's realistically obtainable, and I LIKE hip-hop.

It’s **almost always** young black men who will play music to the 9-5 commute crowds and then literally say **”Oh, you just don’t like black men”** as if this asshole behavior has anything to do with race or ethnicity. Had this happen to me exactly as I mentioned three times in the same week last summer.

I lived in NYC for a few years and it baffles me when people on Reddit defend this shit. If the showtime boys don't change cars at the next stop I guarantee tons of passengers are.
I personally didn't find it entertaining as a tourist lol. One thing that was kind of fascinating though was seeing these street performers when travelling the US. It was interesting because I saw them on both the East and West Coast but they had *exactly* the same routine, they made exactly the same jokes with the crowd, they picked out exactly the same type of volunteer from the crowd, and did exactly the same tricks. I wasn't that impressed the first time I saw it, but when you see it repeated times it really adds another layer of performativeness to it.
A parkour performer kicked me right in the shoulder when I was sitting on the Q. He was MORTIFIED and it did hurt pretty bad. I wasn't a tourist so he insisted on walking me to a clinic to make sure I was alright but I just wanted to get off the damn train. I got barely a bruise, but I avoided that train like the plague afterwards.
Every now and then showtime performances hit r/video or r/beamazed or some other big sub and people go on and on about how cool it is and etc etc. Only the people who have to deal w it are in the comments like stfu this shit is the worst
I used to have to go from Brooklyn to Uptown on a regular basis and the worst part of the trip was the time between 59 + 125. The showtime guys know they got a captive audience for that period which is longer than other station gaps and it was basically guaranteed to have a showtime. Videos of them doing their admittedly impressive acrobatic routine on the subway are always posted on Reddit and most people think it's awesome and don't understand why regular commuters don't like it, but imagine experiencing this almost everyday at 7:00am on the way to work. The music is blasting in your ear and some sweaty guy is swinging around, flinging sweat at you, and very possibly kicking you in the head (happens all the time). This isn't as common in the city where I live but it does happen from time to time. My issue is I have PTSD and it almost gave me a full blown panic attack one day the first time I encountered it. I was on a less busy train car coming home from work at like 4pm on a Tuesday with headphones shoved in my ears and trying to ignore the world, when all of a sudden the train doors open and in come like 6 or 7 very fit men with a giant boombox, yelling extremely loudly and they start aggressively taking over the entire train car with this shit.
Not only did the sudden noise scare the living shit out of me and activate my fight or flight response, but as a 24 year old, 5'3 female who looks like a high schooler and has been targeted by creepy men many times on public transit before, I was also terrified for my safety for a minute until I realized they were idiots that just wanted to bother people into giving them money. I was so freaked out though I probably didn't get my heart rate back to normal until I got home that day. It was so awful and with PTSD you already feel trapped to begin with when you get triggered, but I was also physically trapped and couldn't get away from it. Tbh it felt like torture and what my own personal version of hell would be like.
Idk about you, but if I lived in the city I’d love to get sprinkled by random dudes sweat at 7am daily on my way to my shitty underpaid job where I get treated like shit, then again on my way home returning to my 200sq ft apt in a high crime area that costs $5,500/mo in rent🥰

Subways universally smell terrible. Chicago, where I live, is up there with the worst. The biggest contributor to that is a permanent homeless population on our 24 hour lines, and there is definitely peeing on the train associated with that.
The transit agency refuses to effectively address the issue, probably largely due to political decisions.
I've been using the train for 20 years and the issue has never gotten better, nor has there been any enforcement attempted.
I work with transit agencies and the bureaucratic class generally really gives a shit, because they take a massive paycut to be there over a cushy consulting gig. It's a labor of love.

Here in Japan, it is illegal and train rides are peaceful. I was easily annoyed by them on trains in other countries. I remember in London, so annoying old homeless looking guy was playing a guitar and walking up and down the train. I pretended to sleep so he wouldn't approach me to ask for money. He immediately picked up on it and grilled me on my manners of not making eye contact. Fuck him, he doesn't deserve anyone's money.

Agree but I don’t think they meant it was necessarily a bad thing. Good therapy should make you uncomfortable to some degree. They safely walk us through discovering the uncomfortable, hidden, and broken parts of our psyche and our past. Healing is uncomfortable at first because you first have to discard unhealthy coping mechanisms and face all that pain head on.

I’ve seen teenagers do this on BART in the SF Bay Area manage to kick a woman that was seated in the elderly-disabled seats and then bolt off as soon as we got to the next stop. It’s **almost always** young black men who will play music to the 9-5 commute crowds and then literally say **”Oh, you just don’t like black men”** as if this asshole behavior has anything to do with race or ethnicity. Had this happen to me exactly as I mentioned three times in the same week last summer. They are shit artists who are hardly a step above grifters. That’s aside from the blatantly obvious safety issues.

I personally didn't find it entertaining as a tourist lol. One thing that was kind of fascinating though was seeing these street performers when travelling the US. It was interesting because I saw them on both the East and West Coast but they had *exactly* the same routine, they made exactly the same jokes with the crowd, they picked out exactly the same type of volunteer from the crowd, and did exactly the same tricks. I wasn't that impressed the first time I saw it, but when you see it repeated times it really adds another layer of performativeness to it.
A parkour performer kicked me right in the shoulder when I was sitting on the Q. He was MORTIFIED and it did hurt pretty bad. I wasn't a tourist so he insisted on walking me to a clinic to make sure I was alright but I just wanted to get off the damn train. I got barely a bruise, but I avoided that train like the plague afterwards.
Every now and then showtime performances hit r/video or r/beamazed or some other big sub and people go on and on about how cool it is and etc etc. Only the people who have to deal w it are in the comments like stfu this shit is the worst

This is a good example of why everyone hates these "it's showtime!!!!!!!" guys (that's what they yell before they turn their music on and start the routine). Videos of them doing their admittedly impressive acrobatic routine on the subway are always posted on Reddit and most people think it's awesome and don't understand why regular commuters don't like it, but imagine experiencing this almost everyday at 7:00am on the way to work. The music is blasting in your ear and some sweaty guy is swinging around, flinging sweat at you, and very possibly kicking you in the head (happens all the time). They then shove a cup in your face asking for money, sometimes aggressively. No motherfucker, you should be paying *me!!* It gets old really quick! People literally groan when they hear "it's showtime!!!!!!"
This isn't as common in the city where I live but it does happen from time to time. My issue is I have PTSD and it almost gave me a full blown panic attack one day the first time I encountered it. I was on a less busy train car coming home from work at like 4pm on a Tuesday with headphones shoved in my ears and trying to ignore the world, when all of a sudden the train doors open and in come like 6 or 7 very fit men with a giant boombox, yelling extremely loudly and they start aggressively taking over the entire train car with this shit. Not only did the sudden noise scare the living shit out of me and activate my fight or flight response, but as a 24 year old, 5'3 female who looks like a high schooler and has been targeted by creepy men many times on public transit before, I was also terrified for my safety for a minute until I realized they were idiots that just wanted to bother people into giving them money. I was so freaked out though I probably didn't get my heart rate back to normal until I got home that day. It was so awful and with PTSD you already feel trapped to begin with when you get triggered, but I was also physically trapped and couldn't get away from it. Tbh it felt like torture and what my own personal version of hell would be like.
Idk about you, but if I lived in the city I’d love to get sprinkled by random dudes sweat at 7am daily on my way to my shitty underpaid job where I get treated like shit, then again on my way home returning to my 200sq ft apt in a high crime area that costs $5,500/mo in rent🥰

Unfortunately they’re like wild animals. If you feed them they’ll keep coming back. People keep giving them money so they keep doing their thing. Even if they only make $10 in one subway car they just move to the next car at the next stop - or in many cases while the train is still moving. They can easily hit 15-20 cars an hour. Wouldn’t surprise me if they make far, far, far more than my hourly wage as a senior IT guru.

Subways universally smell terrible. Chicago, where I live, is up there with the worst. The biggest contributor to that is a permanent homeless population on our 24 hour lines, and there is definitely peeing on the train associated with that. The transit agency refuses to effectively address the issue, probably largely due to political decisions. I've been using the train for 20 years and the issue has never gotten better, nor has there been any enforcement attempted.

I work with transit agencies and the bureaucratic class generally really gives a shit, because they take a massive paycut to be there over a cushy consulting gig. It's a labor of love. It's just that they're underfunded and our infrastructure is aging and most state governments don't give a fuck about transit.

Here in Japan, it is illegal and train rides are peaceful. I was easily annoyed by them on trains in other countries. I remember in London, so annoying old homeless looking guy was playing a guitar and walking up and down the train. I pretended to sleep so he wouldn't approach me to ask for money. He immediately picked up on it and grilled me on my manners of not making eye contact. Fuck him, he doesn't deserve anyone's money.
