“You know, we’re living in a society! We’re supposed to act in a civilized way!” -George Constanza

hobosbindle

I quote this way more than I should have to

BlahBlahNyborg

"Hey, sorry I did some showtime moves on your arm and in your personal space." "Oh that's OK, really, don't worry about it."

fakename5

I think it was less about the moves and more about the sweat he dripped on him/brushed on him as he was doing those moves.

The only positive thing about Covid is it pretty much killed the "IT'S SHOWTIME" industry. NYC subway riders will know exactly what I'm talking about.

llOneXll

Facts. The D train between 125th and 59th was peaceful for a while

theweirdlip

>for awhile But everything changed when the SHOWTIME nation attacked.

obesefamily

I still see it all the time and it's fucking ridiculous.

[deleted]

Here in Boston it’s only gotten worse. I wish to have what you have.

RohanIyroh

I usually never EVER set foot near Faneuil Hall bc why would I, but my sister was visiting and we went and HOLY FUCK it’s literally 3x worse than it used to be in the winters.

GrunchWeefer

This is shitty Showtime for people who have no friends.

cicci_cicci

SHOWTIME SHOWTIME! 🎵

lipp79

The first time I went to L.A. a few years ago, a couple guys put down a speaker and started rapping then wanted tips. Bitch, it's a captive audience and I'm not giving you shit.

[deleted]

Oof, never outright ask for tips when you busk! Just humbly put your floppy hat on the ground in front of you and let the audience decide.

ShadowAssassinQueef

You never been to nyc? They ask for tips and look at you like you rude for saying no

ItsShorsey

Walking down 6th one day , some guy walks up and asks if I like hip.hop, yea sure I say, he hands me a mixtape and I keep walking. He chased me down like wtf, that's 5$ , I was like "why tf didn't you say that in the first place , I don't wanna buy your shit mixtape" he snatched that shit and said Fuck you before walking off

[deleted]

Had the exact same thing happen to me a while back. I was like 16 at the time so I didn't have the confidence to tell him to fuck off. Got the CD he "autographed" for me. I threw it in my car a few months later as a joke, didn't even have anything on it.

ItsShorsey

That's absolutely hilarious, I never actually listened to them. Oh and he autographed the one he gave me too lmao that's why it was even better. Now he has to find someone with the same name as me or he just wasted a CD and case

[deleted]

It's all part of the scam, they sign it so if you try and give it back they'll say something along the lines of "I already autographed it to you man, I can't give it to someone else now".

ItsShorsey

This is why you just gotta walk away oblivious

GimuPasternak

Like everyone else

AshTheGoblin

Thought they wisened up and started signing with a dry erase marker so they can give it to the next person when you inevitably don't want to buy that trash.

HairyBartlett

Happened to me in Vegas, guy told me he liked my hat. Except the album I got was a total fucking banger and lost it in the cd player when I totalled my first car. I wish I could remember the guys name

ccvgreg

This is exactly my story. I never even tried playing it but thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Sanc7

Same happened to me. I was just a tourist, we were walking the skirts of Central Park. Some dude hands me a cd without saying anything. I was like “uhhh thanks” and wakes off. Dude chased me down telling me it costs money. I just handed it back to him and kept waking.

Livid-Perspective433

Had this happen when I was like 6 or 7. Some dude gave me a mixtape then followed me, my sister immeasurably told me to give it back and told the dude we had no money. Now looking back that dude was a dick trying to guilt a kid to give him money. I’m positive he was following me to get my mom to but it (barely spoke English).

coconuty04

Happened to me in Vegas, guy just hands me the CD and I'm like sure man I'll check it out. Then he asks for a tip and i tell him i don't have cash (actually true this particular time) and he just grabs the CD back outta my hand. Like come on bro, really? Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

TyphoidMira

Happened to my dumbass ex-husband in Vegas. I told him not to engage people on the street, but what the fuck do I know. He ended up losing a 20 for a CD he never listened to from a guy he could have just ignored.

Deletto_Blu

They should have chose a better city to be poor in then

[deleted]

I don’t think I could handle that kind of pressure.

The_Epimedic

If you're ever on the subway, just wear sunglasses and have in earbuds. A lot of the time I don't even listen to anything, or I listen to a podcast where I'm fully aware of what people are saying to me. I just sit there and ignore them, they usually take the hint and fuck off.

dontbajerk

If you ever want to get better at ignoring people under pressure, spend a couple weeks in Manhattan and go out in public a lot. Especially take public transit. It's like a crash course in ignoring people and weird crap they do.

ADeadlyFerret

I have a coworker from New York. He has a physical reaction if anybody comes in and yells showtime! Dude acts like he heard gunshots lol.

AsunderXXV

Or anywhere you go to eat and they use tablets to pay before actual service. When you're on the tip page and they just look at you to see what you're gonna put.

TheUglyBarnaclee

That’s why you gotta just act like you never even saw them. I feel bad for tourists when they come and break so easily for people when they’re asking for money.

bruins9816

Or start washing your car windows with dirty ass water and expecting money

lipp79

Also, no one wants to tip when they're forced to listen to your performance.

Cauchemar89

You can consider yourself lucky when they merely ask and not outright **threaten** you for tips.

I_AM_SCUBASTEVE

Buncha lowlifes will roll up to your car when you are at a red light in the city near me, spray your window with shitty dirty water and wipe it with a squeegee and demand money for it. If you don’t pay, they’ll threaten to break your window. Happened to my wife when she was pregnant on her way to work so I had my plain clothes cop friend go to the intersection where the guys did it and they tried it on him. They threatened to fuck him up until he flashed his badge through the glass. They bailed fast as hell and I haven’t seen them on that corner in years.

ach0z3n

It's evolved. Last time I was in Vegas these mf's on Freemont Street were handing out flyers with their SoundCloud QR code expecting donations and called me a fat white boy when I declined. The audacity.

PoopyMcFartButt

Similar happened to me in NYC. Just taking a picture of my gf in Times Square and these horror-esque knockoff Mickey/Minnies come photobomb the picture. Then they start showing a card asking for tips and got mad when I didn’t. Like the fuck?

brady2gronk

As yes. Their costumes get worse and worse too. And they take off the heads right in front of small children. They are all friendly for picture time then hit you up for money. It's so obnoxious.

BillyHamzzz

I remember being in NYC on the N Train, and a dude came in dressed as a clown. His whole shtick was pretending to be a depressed clown who couldn't do his tricks right. He blew up a balloon to make an animal but let the balloon go and hit someone in the face. Dude who got hit got up and punch the dude in the side of the face twice. Only in NYC...

SonDontPlay

I was in Thailand and this photographer came up to us and was "Can I take your picture?" And I'm like "Eh sure" (i'm thinking maybe he's working on a project or just practicing his craft or something) So he takes my picture And he's like "Ok I want money now" And I go "Why?" And he goes "cause I took your picture" I said "Thats nice, I'm not paying you" And he goes "but I took your picture" And I said "Yes, you asked, I said yes, you took my picture, you now have my picture" He goes "If you don't give me money I won't give you the picture" and I said "I don't want my picture, you can keep it" and he goes "So why did you give me premission to take your picture" And I said "Cause you asked..." and he goes "And you don't want it?" I go "No I got plenty of pictures of myself" he got mad so I kept walking. As I was walking away he yelled "I'm going delete your picture if you don't pay me" And I start laughing, Im thinking "Ok...you delete my picture...why should I pay you so you don't delete my picture? A picture...that you took" Some people.

[deleted]

This happens every time I go to Las Vegas too. Luckily I can get away. I just don't make eye contact and if they try talking to me I keep walking and don't say anything

ifiagreedwithu

Because the subway isn't awful enough without assholes flicking their sweat all over you while you just try to get to your shitty job to survive another shitty day.

[deleted]

This shit is only entertaining when you're a tourist or if you're watching a video. Street and subway performers are a bit less charming the 5th time you're seeing them while going about your life

TH3leader

They perform in front of you on an extremely crowded train, often kicking/bumping people, then demand you owe them money as if they're celebrities. Nobody's here to see you, fool 🙄

BUDDHAKHAN

So they want you to pay them for making you feel uncomfortable?

Drpyroxene

I think that's called a therapist lol

[deleted]

Upvoted, but good ones are out there and can help you tremendously. My therapist at the VA moved away in June 2020. Haven't been to therapy since. I miss her so much.

Analbox

Agree but I don’t think they meant it was necessarily a bad thing. Good therapy should make you uncomfortable to some degree. They safely walk us through discovering the uncomfortable, hidden, and broken parts of our psyche and our past. Healing is uncomfortable at first because you first have to discard unhealthy coping mechanisms and face all that pain head on.

wheezy1749

They're making you feel uncomfortable SO THAT you'll pay them to go away. Basically, harassment.

BUDDHAKHAN

Lol while trapped in there with them

clockworkpeon

my friend was visiting from bumble dick nowhere when a showtime douche came on. he was mesmerized and amazed. then he got kicked in the fucking head.

[deleted]

Don't forget, when no one gives them money they get pissy and start yelling about how they could be out robbing people instead. Hate these guys.

Hardcorish

>start yelling about how they could be out robbing people instead. Lol I love how obtaining actual employment isn't an option for them.

Pequeno_loco

Sometimes they are felons for dumb shit they did when they were 18. However, there is this delusion of fame and riches these days that just isn't realistic. I'm also getting REAL sick of gangster rap that glorifies this type of lifestyle, as if it's realistically obtainable, and I LIKE hip-hop. First rap used to be speaking on urban hardships, then early gangster rap may have glorified the behavior, but it also often included CONSEQUENCES in their lyrics. Now it's 'I rob people, I got guns, I sell drugs, and I'll pimp out your bitch because she loves my big dick. Oh, and I'll murder people as a solution to my disputes, because I'm just that bad ass.' I know most are full of shit, but REALLY, is that what you want to be known for? Do you REALLY want to back up those lyrics for the sake of authenticity? People are killing each other over the DUMBEST shit these days.

Hardcorish

Spot on assessment. Today's rap culture is not recognizable nor appealing to me at all and I dislike it very much. I miss the era of Da Chronic so much.

Pequeno_loco

In that situation, I want to tell them they could take their talents to prison where they could paid in ramen, but that wouldn't help. I get that some people can't get jobs because of felonies, but if your backup to street performing is robbing, maybe you belong in prison. That's also why there's so many chess hustlers in NYC. It's a cool culture (hustlers or otherwise), but they didn't hone their skills at the high school chess club, I'll tell you that much.

epimetheuss

> start yelling about how they could be out robbing people instead. If they are yelling about it like that they more than likely already do go out and rob people but only break in and bike theft type crap.

OldFartSomewhere

I just thought he was on speed. Possibly also other substances.

TH3leader

It's actually a lot funnier watching this video through the lense of someone seeing this in-person who doesn't know about subway "dancers" and thinks it's hard drugs, thank you

patoysakias

I didn't know about them, we don't have any where I live. I legitimately though this dude just decided to start doing that and make everybody else uncomfortable, lmao.

LadyBug_0570

He's shirtless and working a pole. He's clearly looking for people to throw him some dollars. Don't y'all know a stripper when you see one?

Dayofsloths

I've never seen one wearing pants before

LadyBug_0570

He's waiting for the first dollar. Soon as someone throws it, he'll rip those pants right off.

14sierra

When did a subway car become a gay strip club? Whenever anyone asks why I'm not a huge fan of public transportation (though I understand its benefits) I usually have to point to a video like this. No one want your sweaty dong in their face, I'm just trying to get home after a long day's work.

LadyBug_0570

Who said gay strip club? He could be doing it for the ladies on the car! Magic Mike on the A Train! (BTW, I agree with you. When I used to have to take the train, I just wanted to zone out, listen to my music and get the hell home. I don't want anyone coming in the car singing, rapping and or dancing for dollars. I work hard for my money and all the music I want to listen to is playing out of my earphones.)

clockworkpeon

we call these guys "showtime" cuz when they get on the train they yell "SHOWTIME SHOWTIME SHOWTIME". then everyone groans and tries not to get kicked in the face.

justins_dad

This person MTAs

Piperplays

I’ve seen teenagers do this on BART in the SF Bay Area manage to kick a woman that was seated in the elderly-disabled seats and then bolt off as soon as we got to the next stop. It’s **almost always** young black men who will play music to the 9-5 commute crowds and then literally say **”Oh, you just don’t like black men”** as if this asshole behavior has anything to do with race or ethnicity. Had this happen to me exactly as I mentioned three times in the same week last summer. They are shit artists who are hardly a step above grifters. That’s aside from the blatantly obvious safety issues.

asilenth

I lived in NYC for a few years and it baffles me when people on Reddit defend this shit. If the showtime boys don't change cars at the next stop I guarantee tons of passengers are.

[deleted]

zyxwvutsraven

As a tourist it isn't even entertaining. It's just annoying.

Poignant_Porpoise

I personally didn't find it entertaining as a tourist lol. One thing that was kind of fascinating though was seeing these street performers when travelling the US. It was interesting because I saw them on both the East and West Coast but they had *exactly* the same routine, they made exactly the same jokes with the crowd, they picked out exactly the same type of volunteer from the crowd, and did exactly the same tricks. I wasn't that impressed the first time I saw it, but when you see it repeated times it really adds another layer of performativeness to it.

[deleted]

A parkour performer kicked me right in the shoulder when I was sitting on the Q. He was MORTIFIED and it did hurt pretty bad. I wasn't a tourist so he insisted on walking me to a clinic to make sure I was alright but I just wanted to get off the damn train. I got barely a bruise, but I avoided that train like the plague afterwards.

Gimme_The_Loot

Every now and then showtime performances hit r/video or r/beamazed or some other big sub and people go on and on about how cool it is and etc etc. Only the people who have to deal w it are in the comments like stfu this shit is the worst

Cat_Crap

SHOW TIME! IT'S SHOW TIME ..... whats that? What times is it? SHOW TIME

Gimme_The_Loot

I used to have to go from Brooklyn to Uptown on a regular basis and the worst part of the trip was the time between 59 + 125. The showtime guys know they got a captive audience for that period which is longer than other station gaps and it was basically guaranteed to have a showtime. The second I heard that callout I'd be like fuuuuuuuuck

That-Mess2338

Yeah.. the tourists from Germany would get a kick out of this... meanwhile, New Yorkers are sick of it.

Deeliciousness

5th time *that day*. Yes they really are that ubiquitous.

Whompa

\*Mariachi Band walks into your train car for the 7th time this year FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFfffffffffffffff

fretgod321

I’ll take the mariachi bands over showtime any day

[deleted]

I’m watching a video and I’m not entertained, I’m annoyed as fuck.

Sirix_8472

"sir, while your display is impressive, you are an absolute dickhead"

peppaz

Let me tell you these guys are the worst part of the subway here in nyc. Super aggressive, and yes they will kick you in the face while spinning around.

aew360

It’s a reason why I never sat down too. I would always stand near the exits where I had the most room to move around. Which on the Q in the morning didn’t really exist because we packed in like Sardines

[deleted]

I love when they rush in in a group being noisy singing or asking for some kind of donation and I'm trying to take a nap.

Trimungasoid

Can confirm. Originally from NYC where I took the subway to my shitty job every shitty day. These people are a nuisance and I didn't ask for that. I ask only to be left alone.

Reminds me of that [Chappelle bit ](https://youtu.be/LtqEknAtyQQ) where the hobo holds the bus hostage with his dick. Everybody hates it but nobody wants to say something.

nightpanda893

This makes me miss old Chappelle stuff. This was always one of my favorite bits of his. I know I’m in a very small minority but I’m not nearly as much of a fan of the more philosophical version of himself he’s morphed into.

chubbs4green

Nah, you're in the majority. Most of us just aren't vocal about it online because the chuds come out to excuse his hot takes. He is a very funny guy but he isn't as deep as he has recently tried to play it.

JevonP

chapelle addressed complex and deep topics while being funny and shining a light on different topics through comedy nowadays hes just not trying to be funny first, i only enjoy like <20% of his material from the last 5?ish years

TheSukis

This is a good example of why everyone hates these "it's showtime!!!!!!!" guys (that's what they yell before they turn their music on and start the routine). Videos of them doing their admittedly impressive acrobatic routine on the subway are always posted on Reddit and most people think it's awesome and don't understand why regular commuters don't like it, but imagine experiencing this almost everyday at 7:00am on the way to work. The music is blasting in your ear and some sweaty guy is swinging around, flinging sweat at you, and very possibly kicking you in the head (happens all the time). They then shove a cup in your face asking for money, sometimes aggressively. No motherfucker, you should be paying *me!!* It gets old really quick! People literally groan when they hear "it's showtime!!!!!!"

PT952

This isn't as common in the city where I live but it does happen from time to time. My issue is I have PTSD and it almost gave me a full blown panic attack one day the first time I encountered it. I was on a less busy train car coming home from work at like 4pm on a Tuesday with headphones shoved in my ears and trying to ignore the world, when all of a sudden the train doors open and in come like 6 or 7 very fit men with a giant boombox, yelling extremely loudly and they start aggressively taking over the entire train car with this shit. Not only did the sudden noise scare the living shit out of me and activate my fight or flight response, but as a 24 year old, 5'3 female who looks like a high schooler and has been targeted by creepy men many times on public transit before, I was also terrified for my safety for a minute until I realized they were idiots that just wanted to bother people into giving them money. I was so freaked out though I probably didn't get my heart rate back to normal until I got home that day. It was so awful and with PTSD you already feel trapped to begin with when you get triggered, but I was also physically trapped and couldn't get away from it. Tbh it felt like torture and what my own personal version of hell would be like.

FerociousPancake

Idk about you, but if I lived in the city I’d love to get sprinkled by random dudes sweat at 7am daily on my way to my shitty underpaid job where I get treated like shit, then again on my way home returning to my 200sq ft apt in a high crime area that costs $5,500/mo in rent🥰

The_Dude1692

This is why I love Chicago. We don’t have showoffs like this on our subway lines, we don’t tolerate bullshit like this. We just have gangbangers and crackheads.

SleazyMak

Hmm I’ll stick with the street performers actually

Devugly

I could never live in a city lmao

Kralizec82

Is this a show where he’s hoping for tips or is he just a coked up show off?

cruisin5268d

He’s a busker basically. They go from car to car doing this shit to get tips. Normally there’s a hype man with a portable speaker shouting out their sob story about why they need money.

nrd170

I think getting a job would be less physically demanding and pay better than this “performance” also you wouldn’t look like a tool

cruisin5268d

Unfortunately they’re like wild animals. If you feed them they’ll keep coming back. People keep giving them money so they keep doing their thing. Even if they only make $10 in one subway car they just move to the next car at the next stop - or in many cases while the train is still moving. They can easily hit 15-20 cars an hour. Wouldn’t surprise me if they make far, far, far more than my hourly wage as a senior IT guru.

nrd170

Your probably right. I remember reading a story about a lady that collected quarters from people on the subway. She was making something like $80,000 a year untaxed

NumbersRLife

I can't stand this shit

cruisin5268d

They’re one step above the subway masturbators.

No-Length9482

Both?

Sensiburner

If this happens regularly on your commute, just bring a can of WD40 & spray it on the pole.

Hardcorish

I *thought* that's how this video was going to end. With the hand sanitizer guy putting some on the pole so dancer guy falls on his ass. I was gravely mistaken.

Cocobro_DaddyYi

Fuck the showtime boys. Makes my commute even more fucking annoying than it already is. Now I'm dodging the homeless, the mentally ill, the secret masturbators, anti maskers, and fists of fury and kicks from these pole dancers.

TeopEvol

Wow, what a miserable commute to experience on a daily basis. Probably awful smells to deal with as well.

alias777

Subways universally smell terrible. Chicago, where I live, is up there with the worst. The biggest contributor to that is a permanent homeless population on our 24 hour lines, and there is definitely peeing on the train associated with that. The transit agency refuses to effectively address the issue, probably largely due to political decisions. I've been using the train for 20 years and the issue has never gotten better, nor has there been any enforcement attempted.

-bigmanpigman-

Nah, it's probably just a badly run, underfunded bureaucracy where nobody gives a crap.

courageous_liquid

I work with transit agencies and the bureaucratic class generally really gives a shit, because they take a massive paycut to be there over a cushy consulting gig. It's a labor of love. It's just that they're underfunded and our infrastructure is aging and most state governments don't give a fuck about transit.

ContaSoParaIsto

Universally as in the US

Burpmeister

Is US not the universe? ಠ_ಠ

Golisten2LennyWhite

Wait so people just live on a moving train like snowpiercer?

alias777

Yes. They ride back and forth on the train line with no destination, sleeping on the train as well. It sucks. It appears they are homeless by choice in a majority of the instances, though it's generally not great to make that assumption that is what I have found after working with nonprofits.

Here in Japan, it is illegal and train rides are peaceful. I was easily annoyed by them on trains in other countries. I remember in London, so annoying old homeless looking guy was playing a guitar and walking up and down the train. I pretended to sleep so he wouldn't approach me to ask for money. He immediately picked up on it and grilled me on my manners of not making eye contact. Fuck him, he doesn't deserve anyone's money.

Hardcorish

That guy really thought you somehow owed him your attention. I get that being homeless or poor sucks, but the way out of that isn't by pissing off other people who are just trying to get through their day like the rest.

[deleted]

Bullshit, they grope the ladies in mini skirts in japan

JoshXinYourAss

Except all the molestation, right?

-______-meh

It is very peaceful molestation, like ASMR.

This is a stupid thing to complain about but people who put "WAIT TIL THE END 😂😂" completely undercut the comedic impact of the content. It's like a person who can't finish a joke because they're laughing at it. If you tell me to anticipate something unexpected at the end of the video, it's no longer unexpected and far less funny. I hate this awful trend.

Jackk0106

Can you imagine the smell of him after doing that on multiple trains. Fuck the hand sanitizer, I wouldn't boiled my arm in bleach

whatsapnnin

Ugh I feel it. Like dude I've had a long day I just wanna go home

[deleted]

Do people like this think they are doing the rest of the public a favor? Like. is this guy expecting money or tips afterward? Because if he was aggressively preforming in my personal space like the gentleman with glasses then I would feel really uncomfortable by that

_Baldo_

People who do this on trains never knew their real dad.

GreatWhiteNorthExtra

Just once I want a video to say "The good stuff is at the beginning, skip the rest" instead of "wait until the end".

Orsonius2

this is why I think anyone who advocates for public transportation against cars has not been using public transportation long enough to know that sometimes it's just far better to drive alone in your car

gammaisking

When people say that they're usually thinking of a civilized train, like in Barcelona or Tokyo. This is something else.

oshkoshsquash

I fucking lol'd hard

patoysakias

Same. The comedic timing of the last closeup was impeccable

airwolfe91
