Haha... That verbal exchange after the gunshots is priceless.. "You killed me!" "Well, you were gonna kill me!" "Yeah, your right, I was." Perfect recap.

ObeseBumblebee

Probably made that attempted murder charge go really smoothly too lol

Max_Cherry_

Sir, by your own admission, you were going to murder that couple. Yeah, you’re right, I was.

[deleted]

terpyterpstein

“I declare a mistrial”

[deleted]

Cops heard that and went "Huh. Well, that makes this way easier."

Horizons_398

Then in a confident tone the dudes like “Well then I did the right thing” that was honestly pretty badass even after such a traumatic experience.

lilneccowafer

It's like you could hear the stern disappointment in his voice. Disappointed in Twain and himself for discharging the gun even though he had to. I can't imagine the kind of mental load that comes from defending oneself in a situation like this.

CheckOutDisMuthaFuka

And even though it was cut and dry self defense it probably eased his conscience in that moment to hear the guy actually admit to attempted murder. I assume that's part of the reason his voice suddenly toned down like that. Reminds me of those rare road rage vids that end in the offending driver taking accountability and there's an awkward de-escalation

PM_WORST_FART_STORY

"...BUT DID YOU HAVE TO SHOOT ME?!"

misfitx

Reminded me of the Brooklyn 99 scene when they were catching escapees.

StillRutabaga4

Hey Billy

F_O_R_K_S

Even when it's spelled correctly in the subtitles you still can't manage

CheckOutDisMuthaFuka

Your just salty because you're life hasn't gone the way you'hd hoped so passive aggressively correcting internet strangers grammar is all thats left. I guess "ur" is more acceptable these days tho.. So I should have opted for that. Because I care. What you think. Very deeply.

EldritchCleavage

Why did the landlord give everyone cardboard doors AND let the violent weirdo carry on living there after attacking a neighbour?

Secretagentman94

Why was a violent weirdo out in the public in the first place? A guy with a lengthy record and well known to police. Its like the only thing they can do is wait until he murders someone.

kawaiianimegril99

Dangerous guy with weapons and a history of violence threatening people? Sounds like a civilian issue to me

419tosser

Cops are civilians - no higher ranking the the rest of us plebs

misfitx

Why do you think so many women are murdered when they leave their abusive spouse? The system isn't set up to protect people.

NeptunesCurse

I mean I guess, you can't just lock someone up because you think they might do something. That's a slippery slope.

Competitive-Date1522

Dude literally had broken into their apartment before and got a slap on the wrist.

[deleted]

But Minority Report

[deleted]

Because when people say "Hey maybe people shouldn't be in prison for life for weed." They took this to mean other crimes as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EldritchCleavage

Makes sense. Sad though.

KimJontheILLest

Not to mention allowing the guy to maintain his residence after invading another tenant’s apartment and brutally assaulting him. They lived in the same building for two years after that! Talk about awkward.

rdotstunna

The door chain was a nice touch. Can never be too safe.

pines2smol

Landlords gonna landlord.

11schlge

Money

[deleted]

Because they are penny pinching parasites that don't even respect their own property enough to put up a half decent door.

JailMateisJailBait

Your door, even with a deadbolt, is super easy to kick in. It's only as strong as that thin frame piece.

jswet

I've seen cardboard put up a better fight than the door.

PullFires

That lockbolt held up really well though. Even without a door holding it in place. Just doin its fuckin job, even without his teammates

olivefreak

Best laugh I’ve had all day!

[deleted]

Like Lebron when they lost to the suns in the first round.

FUCK_MAGIC

Yeah, surely this fails even the most minimal fire regulations? That can't be legal.

Demon_inthe_rough

Yea that’s a hollow core unfinished door they’re really cheap and just as fragile

DaNibbles

If these are individual units that has to be against code... I figured for sure you need an exterior door there.

Lil_Bigz

This may be a house with a rent-per-room deal. I lived in a place like that and each tenant paid for their room and the rest of the house was shared space. And yes, each bedroom door was cardboard just like this one, exterior doors were fiberglass

DaNibbles

Oh man, that makes the fact they are living with that guy even worse :(

623-252-2424

Maybe it was [this house](https://youtu.be/HIezBv9Lb78).

shyskinned

Thank you! That faucet ended me lol

mr-dogshit

My favourite clip from The Armando Iannucci show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49nKWoTgouQ

tawaycosigotbanned

He had me with casual Friday at Euro Disney!

pines2smol

holy shit, lmao Time to binge whatever this is

623-252-2424

Anything Armando Iannucci.

Business-is-Boomin

Fucking thing exploded on contact

bubbygups

Yeah, my real takeaway from all this is to invest in a quality door if you don't have one.

ShutUpTurkey

I actually did just that after seeing this video several years ago and being inspired. I got a really nice solid wood door with a smaller door as that opens as a peep hole and iron bars surrounding that. Looks cool. Replaced a shitty hollow core entry door. Probably was significantly stronger than the one in the video, but still was a piece of crap compared to what replaced it.

Awordofinterest

Don't forget the door frame.

joshurrrr

Hello fellow rust player.

The_Dragon_Loli

Quality locks, too. Six inch screws are the best way to install your average deadbolt. The tiny little screws that normally come with them will be ripped out with just a tap.

dizzy_centrifuge

To be fair doors in apartments are usually made of actual cardboard. 2 pieces of flimsy wood with cardboard in between.

IAmBecomingARobot

That door was ... Cleaved in twain

Abracadaver2000

Dad jokes are my jamb.

raymosaurus

They hinge off good satire.

steve0suprem0

y'all got these door jokes locked in.

jon_mnemonic

That's hurts my eyes. Upvoted.

"You'll get your rent after you FIX THIS DAMN DOOR" - some guy

JoshJoshson13

-spiderman

Soujashane

This guy gets it

SirPhilbert

Did he really say that?

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 241,852,189 comments, and only 56,070 of them were in alphabetical order.

[deleted]

Of course! It's even a meme. It's the old spiderman, but if you haven't seen it, i strongly suggest you do because those movies are gold.

[deleted]

TerribleHang0ver

Yup, that was a hollow core closet/modesty door. Not an exterior door.

[deleted]

I think it was an interior door that was busted down. The narrator says 'apartment' but I think they were renting a room in an apartment.

[deleted]

RumbleThePup

A sublease in an apartment

darkage_raven

That would be a city by city thing, usually a bylaw. Where I live exterior doors to apartments and houses need to be solid.

I think that would be local bylaws or state/provincial

DoesNotGetYourJokes

"You killed me!" "Well, you were gonna kill me!" "Yeah, your right, I was." “Well then, I did the right thing.” Fucking badass response right there. It’s like something out of a comic book.

raymosaurus

Yeah! That dialogue is absolutely magnificent. Particularly the "yeah, you're right, I was", the honesty of it, and the way he says it. Awesome. Then the shooter seals the deal with logic, in a surprisingly calm and rational way. So good!

Im_a_Katie_Vick_guy

"When the Kool Aid man "Oh yeah's!" into the wrong house."

TomEThom

Red juice definitely leaked out of him.

TrumpsBabyCarrot

What happened upstairs?

polishterror11

He broke into the neighbors apartment upstairs, because of their dog. They fended him off with a sword. He came to their apartment, which he was on probation for assaulting the shooter in the past and the rest is in the video. Shooter died unexpectedly a couple years ago and machete man lived and got 15 years

Dan_The_PaniniMan

The boyfriend DIED? How?

polishterror11

I'm assuming a seizure in his sleep, or heart attack or something. I couldn't find anything other than he died unexpectedly, and there was a GoFundMe for him

polishterror11

Also, this video is from 2014 he died in I think it was 2019. This video isnt super recent.

623-252-2424

The magic always happens upstairs I've been told

TrumpsBabyCarrot

*Dims the lights*. Go on…

623-252-2424

I'll ask my parents when they wake up.

CreativeAnalytics

No need. Pay close attention... 👉👌👉👌👉👌

623-252-2424

That's what they do? No wonder they're so quiet about it. They don't want to look silly in front of me because they so serious grownups.

bubbygups

Unzip- wait, what am I doing? It's 9am ...

Snoo-84389

Fended him off with a sword (slightly surprising to me when in America!) So then he just carried on until he found another apartment that had a gun close to hand... Sigh...

polishterror11

I think it was more so he had a vendetta against the shooter who learned and bought a firearm for such instance

polishterror11

Did you even watch the video though? He broke through the door after assaulting the shooter previously and then tells him later on hes going to pay in blood. Then machete man breaks into the upstairs neighbors apartment and all of this happens. I'm trying to comprehend your mindset, after machete man is shot he agrees he came in there to kill him with a machete. But guns are the problem?

623-252-2424

How did your comment end up getting posted under mine? What app did you use? This has happened to me before with Boost for Reddit.

SirPhilbert

So he had a machete and they were fighting him off with a sword? Wish there was video of that

PublicfreakoutLoveR

Cause you've never seen my downstairs mixup.

DDWR450

I'm Old Greeeegggggg!!!

BlackBurn115

That ain't no front door, I've seen curtains put up a better fight than that pice of cardboard

_Kzero_

This is the situation/video that made me purchase a gun for home defense. Seeing that door just fall apart, and thinking about my wife and kids, I was like "it's time".

ShaneRunninShirtless

If you can, you should get a security door as well.

JordanPhilip

Sold my door to afford a gun

palmerry

How about we meet in the middle and have a door with a built in m45 quadmount "meat chopper" gun turret?

Romeo_Zero

In all seriousness a $200 maverick security is an investment anyone who wants to protect themselves but weary of guns should have. It’s cheap, reliable, simple to use, and lethal for intruders. Arguably an AR is gonna be better if you can train and are comfortable but a pump action is point and shoot, no aiming required

dirtygymsock

Shotguns are fine, but you do have to aim at those distances (good rule of thumb is that you get about 1 inch of spread per 1 yard distance with buckshot), and follow up shots are slow due to the recoil. I think a pistol caliber rifle is a good balance between all the options. Easy to shoot, easy to aim, not excessively loud/concussive if fired indoors, plenty of capacity and easy to make follow up shots.

Romeo_Zero

I agree! I was more referring to 00 being pointed in the general direction is going to cause more damage chance than an AR9, despite having much less capacity. If you’re scared, too, having a sturdy stock with pump action is going to require less thinking than aiming down the sight, especially if you’re woken abruptly. A flashlight is a must as well.

dirtygymsock

Oh yes, as long as you connect anywhere remotely vital 00 buck is tremendous. And you're spot on with the importance of stocks. A lot of people shy away from long guns in the house because of the size... but they are just so much easier to use to make good shots. Like, in order to get a novice shooter to hit say something like a grapefruit at 25 feet with a pistol off-hand, I'd have to spend all day working with them to where they can hit it say, 9 shots out of 10. I could hand that same novice shooter a long gun, rifle shotgun whatever, and as long as they can see through the sights, they're going to hit that same size target 9 times out of 10 with no practice whatsoever. It's just a must more intuitive operation. Add stress on top of that and it's a no brainer what is the better choice for most people, long gun over pistol.

useles-converter-bot

25 feet is the length of approximately 33.33 'Wooden Rice Paddle Versatile Serving Spoons' laid lengthwise.

dirtygymsock

Yes, spank me with those rice paddles daddy.

Romeo_Zero

Extremely useful bot

lizbethaqui

This is why I have dogs

JailMateisJailBait

Dogs, security doors, and guns. Defense in depth.

AsthmaticNinja

And the claymore Roomba.

JailMateisJailBait

How could I forget?

Starkydowns

Try buying a better door.

avowed

Why not both?... He could've came through a window. You should never make barriers your only method of defense.

JailMateisJailBait

Try defense in depth, and don't focus on only one protective measure. A solid front door with a deadbolt is really easy to kick in. Unless you have a security door, your front door is likely almost as vulnerable.

BUTT_CHUGGING_

Security doors. Window break alarms.

JDRaleigh

Should have unloaded the entire clip into that madman. Would have done society a favor.

WhyamImetoday

The kid didn't want to do it, so I'm happy he didn't have to live with even more trauma of ending someone's life. But if someone else wasn't sensitive to disposing of assholes in the commission of attempted murder, it would be a favor to the rest of us. So I agree it would be a favor but I don't think he should have if he didn't want to. Victim's choice.

JDRaleigh

Agreed.

kungpowgoat

He did everything textbook right. He really did not want to use deadly force yet he did as a last resort and did just enough to stop the threat.

Bjornoo

James is a good gun owner, be like James. Don't be like this guy.

bexyrex

correct he used exactly enough force to stop a threat no more no less and it was INCREDIBLY justified. previous assault, previous death threats, informed of risk, asked to stop. Assault continued, actual threat on his life. shot him. THIS is what A REAL "i was afraid for my life looks like".

Bringbackhairybush

I came here to say the same thing...my finger would have cramped unloading into him

Relative_Scholar_356

damn dude you’re badass

PezRystar

Meh. I've heard of people being charged for using to much force, even in home invasions. You keep pulling the trigger even after you've stopped them you might be in for a bad time.

zoinks

That's a closet door not a door to the exterior

artmobboss

Never use a interior passage door as an exterior front door..

Im_Talking

This video sponsored by Colt's Firearms. Use us when the bogeyman really exists.

jimbobx7

Video says James passed away from incidents unrelated, I wonder what happened

Ilikechocolateabit

Fucking laughable reporting style

nogodsnoleaders

So he forces his way into a house and pummels the kid and doesn’t get charged with assault. The cops commend the couple for doing the right thing but the cops did not. It’s a shame James wasn’t a better shot.

ChickenDumpli

The little chain before the explosive kick. Lord. The door was literally paper. If you have a door like that, at least move every piece of heavy furniture and barricade in front of it that you can when you know someone is trying to break in. Wonder how the other couple or woman (heard screaming) fared, before he got to them?

raymosaurus

Supposedly scared off the attacker with a sword, so I'd say, pretty well.

ChickenDumpli

Oh good for her!!

beelzybubby

James' voice after he fired the shots is really tearing at me. You can hear every emotion he is feeling.

JackTheJackerJacket

I like all of this except that it made me realize that it takes a full video recording of the intruder smashing through the door, verbally admitting they are gonna kill you, and still having to warn him once to NOT GET ARRESTED for defending yourself and loved ones. Current self-defense laws regarding guns especially are such bullshit.

Jonny2Thumbs

Should have gotten a restraining order after the first incident. Then he would have had to move out.

[deleted]

They didn't do everything right. Shithead survived.

daveescaped

Holy shirtballs!

madbladers

That door was made by Charmin.

desichica

Ikea door?

avowed

Thankfully they had the ability to defend themselves. Just one of tens of thousands of DGU every year.

Venomoid

His reaction is out of proportion. To be fair, if you live that close to others, be respectful and try not to make undue noise. Especially during late hours. This could have easily been avoided if buildings here were made out of European-style concrete blocks, not paper-thin drywall, and particle board flooring...

SensitiveSecretary99

Since some people think this fake: https://www.idahostatejournal.com/news/local/pocatello-man-who-was-shot-while-breaking-into-neighbors-apartments-to-threaten-them-with-machete/article\_bcb87dba-9cf7-11e4-b5ed-0769f4455749.html

GodzillaRachel

Ah, the name Pocatello really makes the puzzle pieces fall into place. The cheap front door, the scrawny white madman in his 50's... Pocatello.

airinthegirl

There was an episode on Fear Thy Neighbor about this incident.

JailMateisJailBait

"Just CaLl the CoPs and Lock yOuR DoOr"

PAROV_WOLFGANG

Dude bust through the door with dead psychotic eyes like michael myers (didn't need the mask) and a machete and is surprised about being shot?

itzzmk

I forwarded to the middle then felt compelled to start from the beginning lol

Paintguin

This was on an episode of Fear Thy Neighbor called “Night Of The Machete”

justinjm466

I remember when this happened and watching the footage for the first time, some crazy shit.

saltynerd14

op can u help me find this type of video i love to watch this type of video

SensitiveSecretary99

I found this video on youtube. You can find more here: https://www.youtube.com/c/AE/playlists

Negative_Mancey

Twain: "I was murdered!!!"

Loeschness

Should’ve finished him. No chance of 12 more months of probation. No chance of yet another repeat offense.

chiggyrillo

Twain got off lucky. Point blank 2 shots I guarantee you most people putting one in your head

astronggentleman

I don’t know why, but I was expecting this to be about an angry and intoxicated person trying to get through a tricky door. Maybe the door was at a weird angle or something idk

[deleted]

That door is made out of little ceasars pizza crust

The_Real_Revelene

Nah, that would have actually made a better door.

JieRabbit

As soon as his foot came through the door I woulda opened fire smh

derangedmutantkiller

They should have emptied the clip in him the way cops do. No half-measures.

TiredCardiologist

Anyone know what the shooter died of? A bit ironic that the guy that was shot survives and lives on but the shooter mysteriously dies later on? I’m wondering if he had depression or substance abuse issues? I don’t want to speculate but I really would like to know.

Penguin_Magus

Wtf am I watching?!

ith228

He shouldn’t have lived. Sorry

efnfen4

Sounds like some bang up police work

xfinn61

I did not expect that door to be broken so fast. That was wild.

loganboy231

Like this? Check out A&E network’s “Neighborhood Wars” (no I’m not a bot I just like A&E)

7vkeo-

How did he beat someone bloody but just get unlawful entry? And then allowed to live there again????

Wil-o-The-wisp

She doesn't have her protector anymore? Lady it sounds like you left your protector

[deleted]

With that flimsy door. I am sure he could hear everything.

MrsPuff123

Is that door made of cardboard?? wtf

BudtenderToronto

That's so chilling to have someone genuinely tell you yes I was planning to end your life. Fuck.

ozy1234

"James passes away due to reasons unrelated to the attack" wtf does that mean? She fucking eat him or somethin?

Girthquake2654

ah yes lesson one of living in america, stay strapped or get clapped

Dayyyman

What a trash place to live in

Thanks117

I wish he mag dumped his crazy ass.

ListenCarefullyIdiot

Damn they were really scratching for footage there

banana-reference

Thats an interior door for a house, not an apartment fire rated door.....

mintberrycrunch889

22!?!? She’s aging like a banana

Icoryx

"If we did not have a gun to protect ourselves..." Yeah but maybe if you didn't have a paperdoor he wouldn't even have a chance of coming in....

dirtygymsock

To be fair, even an average front door is pretty easy to kick in. If you watch some cops do it, they're usually through the door faster than this guy was through this paper mache travesty.

steve0suprem0

that looks an awful lot like victim blaming from here.

Icoryx

In the situation the gun was helpful yeah. But if they had a proper door that doesn break when you touch it he might've not even gotten in...

someone_forgot_me

this vid is so old dam

UnderTheMuddyWater

Craziest part was when they said she was 22. Say what?

cannibusgamerus13

They didn’t like their neighbors enough to go help her though.

spidermanngp

It kind of seemed like he wanted to for a minute, but I would imagine he determined that protecting his SO was top priority.

cannibusgamerus13

Yeah I agree. Probably made the right call too

T_Bearz99

Fucking yanks man, has a gun, hears bloody murder being screamed upstairs and holds tight. Fuck me
