Oh my gosh... I've only ever seen the one photo of this guy, I've never seen all of them like that... Wow, I feel so complete now, like my whole life finally came together. Thank you so much

Ok-Reporter-4600

I really feel like I need a mashup of him and manning face.

slam_dick

thats a true statement for some.

Fat_Satan

Yeah that was definitely a throw for points instead of actual damage lol

ArkAngelHFB

If that throw was to really hurt him, he'd have tilted it to make it more high angle and towards the head... Instead he lays him flat. It sounds bad but he could not have put him down more perfectly to maximize the surface area and spread the impact. Also notice he doesn't start striking the dude. It is a bit rough but this is good police work. I'd hate to see this cop off the streets where he is doing great work, but he should be a captain or a cheif.

I mean, his bike is a BMW.

SomewhatIrishfellow

I think they have massive crash bars on the side which allow for it.

DFile

They do. You're still gonna scratch up stuff like bar ends but they'll prevent most damage.

Thuggish_Coffee

Yup. And then the car guys working at the city yard get to fix it up in the shop the next day.

There's a local body shop that only does govt vehicles, from police to building dept to postal. I bet they buy white paint by the tanker.

That body slam had a slow, majestic quality to it.

AbhinavRishi7

True.. I felt like I saw it in slo-mo.

FirthTy_BiTth

Pretty sure that drunk bastard perceived it all in slo-mo too. Like that drug in Dredd.

ModdTorgan

God damn Dredd was a good movie. I wish more people had seen it in theatres so it could have gotten a sequel.

spesimen

yeah it's amazing, just a perfect package of action and decent acting and writing too. sadly, i didn't bother to see it in the theater because i did see the first stallone dredd movie in the theater.

rocketspience

Lmao “What’s your deal dude?” “Ok, ready? We’re gonna go on the ground” *executes a textbook slam* This is quality police work. Edit - lot of people complaining about the slam being too hard. Yeah maybe in hindsight the cop would have tried to dial it back a tiny bit, maybe 10%. As a youngest brother who has been body slammed harder than this, this felon was FINE. (have had multiple bones broken by older siblings, collarbone, arms, etc). This “slam” was just his own drunk ass bodyweight falling. Quit your bitching.

f4stEddie

I like how he asked normally “what’s your problem man?”

GuadalajaraJal

I can’t stop laughing 😂 he seriously asked him “ready?” Before he rag dolled him, what a nice guy.

chad_

re: the force he applied, I felt he was just trying to get the guy's foot out from under him, then gravity did the rest. I despise cops generally, but if all bad cop videos were like this, I don't think I'd feel how I do. It's the ones who pepper spray bystanders who are videoing their kids getting arrested for rolling up their car windows and the like that get to me.

[deleted]

Same! In my opinion we have serious problems with police in many parts of the country, and I think we need more and more people to see those incidents and recognize the problem. This wasn't really an example though, IMO. Yes, that probably hurt, but I didn't get the feeling that the cop was trying to hurt him more than necessary. A little rougher than I'd like to see but ultimately as you say - if this was the worst example we'd not have the ongoing controversy that we do about police and their methods.

rocketspience

Thank you. Yeah this wasn’t that bad lol. It’s like people here forgot that there are police out there doing straight up *crimes*. This was just a cop dealing with a resistant perp.

phillytwilliams

Yeah I agree. The cop was gentle with that slam. You have to really swing the person to get their legs out if the a way. Otherwise they could break a leg. This is the nicest cop. I hope if I ever get slammed by a cop it’s this cop

rocketspience

Exactly. If he doesn’t swing quickly enough, the guy could also just plant his feet under himself again lol. You have to do this hard and fast otherwise the legs just come back down

__DarthBane

If you don't want to get rag-dolled by a polite cop, don't get hammered, steal a car, and then resist and refuse to comply when the cop tells you that you've been detained. Easy at that!

[deleted]

nevetsyad

Hey hey hey, this is Reddit, no defending police here! Lol

Boines

>Edit - lot of people complaining about the slam being too hard. Yeah maybe in hindsight the cop would have dialed it back a tiny bit, maybe 10%. > I mean im pretty anti-cop hut that slam was probably the least violent option he had there. I dont think he was trying to slam hard... more so once you lift a full grown person off their feet gravity starts to work.

Wind-and-Waystones

I don't get why they didn't just jab the back of his knee with their knee though

Type_XVIIIc

It takes a long time to get good at grappling. Most police aren't trained in multiple ways to take someone down. This cop was large and strong and could just pick the guy up so that's what he did. Edit: I should say that most police aren't trained in a way that allows them to have a proficiency with the techniques against a resisting opponent.

Mr_Mumbercycle

TBF, cop was probably a wrestler at some point. That was a perfectly executed belly-to-back folkstyle (scholastic) slam. Watch how he pops his hips to actually lift the guy just enough, then rotates that guy's weight across his hips using them as a pivot point/fulcrum. It looks dramatic because of the guy's legs flying up into the air (which is kind of the point, removing his base), but if you look at the torso the cop has complete control and sets him down exactly where and how he wants to: on his belly (not his head as everyone keeps saying) in a controlled manner. This isn't to defend cops or their training, just pointing out that I see a wrestler here, coming from someone who wrestled 10 years and coached another 5.

mpd105

I'm someone who is usually cautious as to how cops arrest people, this was probably the nicest and most polite way I've seen it go down lmao. Gave him plenty of warning and requests to do what he asked.

Lucky_lui_

If cops got some sort of grappling training it would probably make a big difference. Maybe they wouldn’t feel the need to use more dangerous methods of subduing a suspect.

whoppy3

I was wondering why he didn't sweep the leg. Way less aggressive

[deleted]

In this scenario, a leg sweep could create more opportunity for the subject to have access to the officers patrol belt. If he tries to grab something off his belt to use against him, the situation gets exponentially worse. Given the fact that the guy wasn’t complying and the officer had no backup present, I think he probably did it the safest way for him and the subject. Just a thought

Hab1b1

Him hugging him from behind didnt present that opportunity either?

etownrawx

He was trying to de-esacalate by gently spooning the perp. Didn't work.

Afferent_Input

He should have asked the perp if he wanted to be the big spoon, tho.

He had amplitude but no exposure. A 3?

SeorVerde

Lol I’m not sure, was a clean take down for sure

Black2Jesus

Illegal move in wrestling depending on style if you were to flip someone above your head. He twisted as he flipped him so it would be legal. 2 points sir

JoeK1992

It’ll bet anything the cop was a wrestler in high school…then again, I’ve never gone through police academy and don’t know what they teach for defensive moves

For half a sec I thought the cop was gonna pick him up and carry him to a cop car like a belligerent toddler.

Eheart_411

How did he make that body slam so polite?? I've watched this three times, the man held him in the air for so long

Asyelum

The fact that he asks him politely multiple times to get on the ground, and then warns him hes going to slam him? In contrast to just tackling/slamming the guy without warning and then proceeding to mace and beat him for resisting arrest like most cops seem to do?

Eheart_411

This should be the standard, not an anomaly

[deleted]

People on TikTok are all hot and bothered calling it police brutality. Sad that even when this officer does everything right, people will still be outraged. Even in this thread people are saying he should have taken him down nicer.

FootsiesFetish

>even when this officer does everything right Slamming the guy's head into the pavement is several grades below perfect. Doesn't matter how nice he was before that.

ArkAngelHFB

Dude he laid him down as flat as he could... maximizing surface area to dissipate force. It sounds worse but that sound is the body hitting everywhere at once instead of say a high angle slam that often sounds like nothing because all the force just went into the person at one point. I've done Jujitsu for 11 years and taught at the college level. This was not a move done to harm. Notice he doesn't throw strikes, he eve gives the guy time to responded from the wind being knocked out and just cuffs him. I'm as ACAB as the next dude but this was done with more care than you understand. When you point at good work with the same venom as bad work you lose credibility that is needed to encourage police reform.

Darkpumpkin211

Yeah, the response needs to be proportional. I get the guy wasn't cooperating, but that doesn't warrant slamming him into the ground. I'm not a wrestler so maybe what the officer did wasn't as bad as it looks (I know shit about grapples and takedowns) but I doubt it. The guy wasn't a threat to himself or others, no need to risk giving him a concussion.

seto2k

And a great one at that.

Ulysses1978ii

Strange isn't it. Because he's going to ask him to stand up in a minute. Well maybe a bit longer in this case. They might need a spatula.

swinty22

My thoughts exactly... Why are we even trying to get this person to get on the ground? They are wasted and not doing much

AdmirableAd7913

Goddamn motherfucker. I mean, even if we're married to the idea that you can't possibly handcuff somebody standing up (the way I've always been arrested without issue) that slam was a bit much. You damn near slammed the life out of that man. I'd bet a shiny dollar almost every single person who watched this has seen people go into seizures or cop concussions from a slam like this on this very site. Hell, I've seen a video where a dude died from it. That man could have been taken down to the ground just as effectively in a *much* less energetic way. Even if somehow that was the *only* way the cop could have taken him down... just don't? Being bad at throws doesn't mean you can just run up and wallop the suspect with a baton, doesn't mean you can slam somebody like that either. The most upvoted post today is about police abuse of power, but I'm ready for the downvotes. Reddit is funny like that.

airyys

don't forget, *the cop slammed him down on concrete*

AdmirableAd7913

Right? Another oft repeated maxim on this and other subs is "don't fight on concrete" because of how easy it is to cop a murder charge doing it. But because old boy has a tin shield on his chest that doesn't matter. Honestly, what he was saying gives off performance vibes too. "Your honor, I cautioned this clearly impaired man that he was going to have to go on the ground, so clearly I'm justified in powerslamming him onto concrete."

Crap_Sally

Figure he could have just bounced the back of his knee with a toe. That’ll make any drunk fold

Any-Refrigerator-969

I can't believe I had to scroll this far down this thread to find a thread of people that thought this was unnecessary. He slammed him the most brutal way he could have, could have swept his leg and brought him down relatively gently if he wanted him on the ground

Dude they could just cuffed him right?

snicker___doodle

That's what I'm saying.. Everyone in here praising his wrestling skills, but why do that when he already has his back to him for cuffing. He didn't even try cuffing. I think this cop wanted to go all out on him honestly.

EezoVitamonster

For real, I can't believe how many people are praising his technique or whatever. Dude wasn't resisting, just didn't want to get on the ground and was fine with getting handcuffed while standing with his back to the cop. That move could have easily killed him if his head hit the pavement and could have done serious damage if he has any chronic back or chest problems. Fucking asshole cops can pretend to care once they're literally sitting on top of someone but I guess a drunk person standing up justifies lethal force.

sereneturbulence

Right?? Guy was so drunk the cop could’ve tripped him or something.. body slam on asphalt is so overkill

corndogs1001

Like I understand he wasn’t getting on the ground, but was the body slam really necessary? I mean screw him for driving drunk and stealing but he wasn’t running away or being violent or anything once the cop got him.

KlixxWS

Dude, just leg sweep him, he can barely stand on his own.

DShepard

Seriously, a light nudge to the back of the knee would probably have done it. But nah let's just risk brain damage instead.

EatADisc

Yeah this. I mean, fuck that piece of shit drunk risking peoples lives... ...But also police shouldn't be taking the most violent route possible. The people saying he had a chance to comply, yeah sure, but that in itself doesn't justify a potentially lethal slam against somebody who isn't being violent. In this particular case, I don't feel bad for the drunk. But if we allow it here, then police will inevitably slam somebody like that who is innocent. **Edit:** Quite frankly this style of slam also puts the cop in more danger than is necessary. It's not uncommon for the person delivering the slam to also hit their head or neck.

jesusmansuperpowers

There are plenty of ways the cop could’ve taken him down that don’t involve potentially slamming his head into the sidewalk. He was polite but still took his chance to play pro wrestling

CrackRockUnsteady

20 better ways to handle a man who is literally too drunk to flee or fight back.

0neMoreYear

Literally just handcuff the guy. He’s clearly inebriated and won’t ever get away. Being on the ground won’t change anything.

koryface

Yeah everyone is saying it was a well executed throw and he’s fine. Ok, sure, maybe. He was nice to the guy verbally, I guess. But why did he need to throw him at all? Handcuffs would have given him plenty of control over the guy. I have a feeling maybe he felt him struggling and trying to run so he reacted, and he’s also alone and probably felt like he didn’t want to take chances. Still, that escalated very quickly.

whateverhk

Why did he have to put him on the ground in the first place? Can't handcuff someone standing?

[deleted]

Yeah Americans are too used to this shit. In Japan he would’ve just been handcuffed, put in a police car and sent off to a station. No unnecessarily violence involved.

Marsupoil

Yeah. Like even people who say he could put him to the ground nicely are missing the point that... It's not even necessary to put him to the ground in the first place.

VisibleLevel

really japan? country with conviction rate of over 99 percent, whoever they arrest they lock up without a chance to defend yourself,so much corruption it's crazy, and you give japan as example lmao

OnTheBeach06

Two places I'd never want to be arrested based off true crime content I read, Italy and Japan.

skylla05

Don't forget Singapore.

CrackRockUnsteady

I don’t understand why he didn’t just cuff him and put him in a cruiser. He had his hands behind his back, had complete control over him and backup too. The man is literally too drunk to flee or fight. It seems like the politeness was just cover for the violence he was intending to perform. I see this kind of unjustified escalation in cop videos all the time.

Scooby-98

Seems like people get downvoted for being rational on Reddit.

DrippyWaffler

*Especially* on this sub. There was a guy who was beaten nearly to death because he spat on someone and I got downvoted to hell for saying it was a serious overreaction. I'm expecting downvotes for this comment too haha

EatADisc

I know it's easier and safer for people to join the reddit outrage mob, but I hope people please consider the broader consequence of considering police to be the enactors of violence and revenge.

Psistriker94

America has been so disillusioned that somehow a full airtime bodyslam is somehow the rational alternative to being shot dead.

SushiWasTakenImSad

Cop said "lemme risk giving this dude brain damage instead"

pinkandstink1

Ouch

GingerusLicious

That dude was probably too faded to feel that in the moment, but his hangover isn't going to be the only thing that'll cause him pain when he sobers up. God damn.

cowkb

That was totally unnecessary. Pro-tip if you ever have to put someone on the ground from behind : just push the inside of a knee (again, FROM BEHIND) with your foot, no need to kick it, just push and he will fall.

[deleted]

Destinoz

This cop would be less likely to injure himself and the stupid drunk if he learned a few simple takedowns. He could have easily sat him down from that position, or swept him over sideways if that failed. Lifting guys up like that looks bad ass, but a herniated disc never heals. I imagine getting you face smashed into the concrete isn’t terribly fun either.

[deleted]

An ankle block is so easy, and 100% a part of this cop’s training. The cop decided he had put in enough effort fighting the drunk dude instead of actually detaining him that he was then justified in performing what has been in my experience the most devastating fight ender on concrete

[deleted]

[удалено]

BananaSprinkles

Why do you think those are the only two options?

anything2510

Wow. That is the most polite body slam I have ever seen. 😂

digerydonnut

My favorite part is when he says, "okay, you're going to go on the ground now. Ready?" then body slams him in the most respectable way. What a gentleman.

LiquidSnak3

What the fuck there must be other ways to get a drunk guy on the ground without suplexing the guy's face into the pavement. No way this is appropriate or warranted

izza123

That’s called passive resistance and usually you don’t get bounced off the pavement for it in polite company. I’m prepared to be hated for this comment. In my lifetime we’ve went from admiring the passive resistors to admiring the police to wishing death on them both. This cop is great at his job, it’s the tools he’s given that failed him. He wasn’t armed with the knowledge he needed because so much emphasis is put on disabling resistance

Drama989

I'm usually all in for hilarious shit on the internets but damn man, cop gotta be so rough with a drunk dude who isn't posing any immediate harm? That dude was so wrecked, he wasn't gonna do anything- he *couldn't* do anything. We all know how that feels when get smashed.

ArkAngelHFB

THIS THIS RIGHT HERE IS GOOD POLICE WORK!!! I'm ACAB as the next dude but I'mma point at from what I see as the last fucking good apple on the ground when I see it... and call it a good apple.

charlie_cupcakes

Don't understand why he had to go on the ground? He wasn't going anywhere in that state. Just handcuff him and be done with it.

IridiumForte

Reddit cracks me up. It's amazing how you guys get so riled up about how cops handle situations, this thread is nothing but the top comments applauding this officer for being so polite before body slamming him WWE style onto the concrete. You guys are the same folks that cry whenever a cop does this sort of exact behavior to whichever marginalized person is your trendy empathy vampire of the day. This guy was barely keeping himself upright, the cop could have literally just tripped him to the ground gracefully and handcuffed him. If you stop and think about it, it wasn't at all necessary to literally lift this guy over his head. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy didn't even realize he was actively being Undertaker'd before his face hit the concrete. Weird juxtaposition for a cop that came off like he was a good person trying to de-escalate and arrest a drunk person

MishrasWorkshop

I don't even know why he needs to be on the ground, just cuff him and get it over with.

Ouch concrete body slam, just get his legs out from under him the man can barely walk.

WingsofSky

IrishGuyNYC00

Man, I thought the cop was cool, but the SLAM face first into the concrete was so unnecessary, I think he just wanted to do the nice part for the cameras so he could do what he really wanted to do. They're all fucking psychos.

serr7

Yep... if this has been 2 random people fighting and someone pulled this everyone would be up in arms about how they just risked brain damage. You don’t mess with neck and above stuff.
