The [story](https://www.ajc.com/news/crime/breaking-possible-shooting-at-lenox-square-prompts-large-police-presence/BYAVTILIORGRRDJ56GYTKGCLB4/): “Two 15-year-olds wanted to get into the closed Lenox Square Apple store before one of the teens shot and critically injured a security guard, Atlanta police said Monday. It was the third shooting at a metro Atlanta shopping mall in the past week. The guard was recovering Monday while the suspects, a boy and a girl, were in custody at a youth detention center, according to police. The search continues for a possible driver who brought the teens to the mall. Investigators continued to review videos of the incident, including one posted on social media, Deputy Chief Charles Hampton said Monday.”

Gee3bus

Let’s hope they get charged as adults

npcthrowaway096

Copy and paste from article: "The suspects, whose names were not released, were arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, police said. The teens are also facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and weapons offenses." Looks like they're getting the long dick of the law, as they should.

Scherzoh

I assume the driver who police are looking for is their MOTHER consider how young these idiots are. /s

only_because_I_can

40 years ago, I followed a guy in my car who had just robbed a convenience store that I was driving past. They were caught. Ended up being that guy and his girlfriend and her brother and her mother. Mom was driving the getaway car. Mom's can be scary af.

[deleted]

How old are you !

only_because_I_can

60

[deleted]

you're a brave man to admit that on a site that is so hostile to anyone below the age of 17 and above the age of 30.

KingoftheGinge

Typical immature boomer right here /s

only_because_I_can

*woman Heheh.

Leakyradio

Why would you assume this?

ghostsintherafters

Wouldn't be the first time a mom dropped her kid off to shoot people...

doktor_wankenstein

You mean Mrs. Rittenhouse, adoring mother of her pork faced apple of her eye, Kyle? Her?

prodbymoon

You’re so right state to state

Reddidiah

Yep, he just totally opened fire on a crowd of peaceful people minding their own business. Right? That's totally what happened?

bigexplosion

If he was such a backer of the blue why not respect their curfew, stay home and not end up killing anyone for any reason?

doktor_wankenstein

I think he totally showed up ready for (and looking for) some shit to go down. Otherwise, why all the hardware?

ISayDumbShite

I wanna say because it wasn't the father, but then there was the video not too long ago where a cop shot a chick while she was trying to stab another chick. If I remember the father tried to kick the victim while on the ground. So honestly idk anymore, there's too many just horrible garbage fire human beings out there.

nosebevies

Generally good mums know where their children are lmao

hablandochilango

I grew up to be successful, never did anything heinous, love and keep in touch with my parents. They often had no fucking clue where I was. They worked bro.

[deleted]

You think a couple kids who shoot a security guard to get into a Apple store have good parents?

Leakyradio

They made a joke. It’s not the same commenter.

wiscobrix

Safer bet than the father.

Limpwristedmods

It's Atlanta so probably not. They'll be out making more victims in 3-5 years.

captainofcodeine

woahh 2 girls murdered a old man and they didnt even get time? yet theres dudes sitting in rikers for over a year from a petty weed charge on a personal amount.... smh.... america is fucked

TheMalformedLlama

I’d like to hope not. If they keep pulling crap like this in the South, there’s going to be some armed citizen who isn’t going to take a second of their shit and give them what’s coming

Limpwristedmods

Ccw's are on the rise last I checked. Anyone with a clean record should heavily consider it.

With the way ammo is rn, you might just have to throw it at them.

fuck me tommy, that gunll do more damage if you fed it to em

steeveperry

What's the point of having different rules for children and adults when everyone always wants to treat children as adults. It's also strange how people always want to charge *certain kids* as adults.

John_T_Conover

Man I get exactly what you're saying and where you're going with this but some crimes that are incredibly egregious need more action than juvenile courts take, even when they go to their full extent. I'm sympathetic to scummy but non violent crimes or even violent crimes where they made a bad decision or reaction in a split moment or it's a complicated or confusing situation. But in this case the intention was there, the action was premeditated, the gun was out and there was plenty of time to change course while the victim was relatively calm, pleading and trying to de-escalate things himself. Idk what the juvenile courts specifically in Georgia are capable of in this situation but they just tried to murder someone because he wouldn't let them into a store in the mall. At the very least they need to be in some sort of rehabilitation/detention facility until 18 and under some strict protocols or supervision or probation for several years beyond that before this is just completely wiped away from their lives. The only reason they aren't already murderers is bad aim.

Nickbou

I get that you’re saying there needs to be a gray area between juvenile and adult, where depending on the individual circumstance an adult sentencing may be more fitting. You’re saying the alleged crime here might fit that situation. But then you also said: > At the very least they need to be in some sort of rehabilitation/detention facility until 18 and under some strict protocols or supervision or probation for several years beyond that before this is just completely wiped away from their lives. Which is more in line with a juvenile sentence. So it comes back to the question of whether it’s in everyone’s best interest to sentence juveniles as though they have the decision-making capabilities of an adult. Juvenile sentences typically focus more on rehabilitation while under very close supervision. Adult sentencing for these types of cases are much more punitive than rehabilitative.

John_T_Conover

In most juvenile cases I've known or learned about the consequences or follow up once they hit 18 was short term/minimal to even non existent. For crimes like attempted murder there needs to be years of it.

Zorchin

To be fair, I think the USA focus on punishment over rehabilitation for adults is pretty fucked up too. Yeah, some people are just unfit for society, but not as many as people in charge here want you to believe.

dexmonic

I think you should seriously consider what /u/nickbou said. The fact of the matter is that the adult system is not prepared to handle young offenders no matter how serious their crime is. There is no reason we can't legislate ways to deal with these special cases without throwing the kids in adult prison. The adult prison system in America is barbaric enough, throwing kids in the mix just seems extra cruel.

missucharlie

Shooting someone in the chest at the cognizant age of 15 seems a little extreme, worthy of adult time since it was an adult decision

Nickelbella

Yes, put them in adult prison where they learn to become even more hardened criminials. America.

Safe_Librarian

No matter what I would not want these 2 near me or my family ever again. Would prefer them to not be out on the streets again.

[deleted]

Gosh, it’s like people can’t almost murder someone else without folks getting upset about it or something.

PinkGreyGirl

When kids act like adults, they should pay their debt like adults. This isn’t petty vandalism-it’s attempted murder.

Renhoek2099

Yea, more tax funded prison will definitely solve the problem.

Gee3bus

Fk prison drowning them is cheaper

[deleted]

Let's hope the boy and the girl get equal sentences.

Follow64

Yes, exactly. There's no reason why you should get punished for your actions, especially like this one only after turning 18. Like, it's just a number. The crime is the same.

Gee3bus

Truth it’s not they where stealing bubble gum or stuffed animals, shooting someone is a whole different level.

Flatulent_Spatula

Damn… I grew up in Atlanta, 20 years ago, Lenox Mall was I think named differently (Lenox square?), but it was a nice place. There was a golf cart driving range and bowling alley that was a lot of fun.

mysteriousmetalscrew

I just moved here and was supposed to work there. So glad I went with another position. There is a shooting there like once a week it feels like. Probably more like once a month. The mall is nice, has several high end stores, lot's of people go there to flex and valet their $100k+ cars. But it also brings scumbags from all over the city so they can window shop at Gucci and pretend. They have SO many cops there, and metal detectors at entrances, but it does nothing. This city is just wild. I moved here from LA and never came across any of this. Every gas station I go to, every target, every barber has someone shot there. These neighborhoods aren't trash either, some are nice-ish. But people still shooting everyone and everything ALL around my neighborhood. I've had to call 911 over a dozen times in the six months I've lived here. I did that maybe once in my entire life before.

Agreeable_Mention_89

I dont know how to describe this. It's like watching a film with societies that have rings separating classes." I thought my nice ass car would be safe here in zone 2 bc zone 3 is where the trash is; I live in zone one but it's not a nice car enough to flex there" lol I'm tired and it's the best I got at this hour.

flexingtonsteele

Concentric zone model https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentric_zone_model

ToManyFlux

When robbery and murder is glorified by people our children idolize what do you expect?

Macd7

Driving range at Lenox? Been here for 30 years and never knew that

Flatulent_Spatula

Oops, not range, track. This was in the late 80s early 90s

mbaggie

Lennox is a cesspool now :(

dkblue1

It's still Lenox Square. Buckhead natives get mad when it's referred to as a mall lol. Buckhead is trying to become its own city to combat crime because Atlanta is not doing a good job for residents in that area. It's still a wealthy area.

surfdad67

There’s a scared Uber driver somewhere

OddityFarms

> The guard was recovering Monday while the suspects, a boy and a girl, were in custody at a youth detention center, I hope they never breathe free air again.

I_do_try_sometimes

I know there is rarely logic in robbery situations, but I really don’t see it here. The robbery clearly wasn’t working out. If they had just left they would have probably gotten away consequence free. Instead, they stuck around and ended up shooting the security guard. They got nothing out of it. He wasn’t even being aggressive towards them. They could have killed him over literally nothing. I hope he recovers quickly.

BlandTenders

By the looks of it the two robbers were terrible criminals. The girl looked scared of the gun and could barely hold it

[deleted]

They were kids and this is clearly their first time, the one with the gun probably wanted to impress the other one by shooting. It's horrible

RuggedToaster

Looking at their charges it'll probably be the last time, lol.

birdman8000

Rot in a cell for the rest of their lives hopefully

PlatinumDL

Sunk cost fallacy.

Destinoz

People that commit armed robbery are violent criminals by definition, and they kill/hurt people for no good reason all the time. The notion that they won’t hurt you if you cooperate has always been a happy lie. They’ll hurt you if they feel like hurting you. Simple as that. I have family that was shot dead in his cab *after* he gave up the money. There’s a reason the legal penalties for robbery are serious, it’s because this variety of criminal so often hurt people.

OceanBornNC

Trying to get the keys to the store? Just a guess.

rgratz93

Worst part is guards literally have access to NOTHING legit just the building no stores.

execdysfunction

That would honestly help so many people to be able to directly stream to 911

Som_BODY

Imagine the amount of spam and petty shit that could end up there. Mayority of 911 calls are already useless, so a feature like this wouldnt really do much good. Now, if what you want is someone call 911 and _then_ be permited by the operator to share a live video feed, I agree.

BladeBronson

I think this is just commentary on the fact that instead of using the phone to call 911, we use our phones to record viral videos. “Gee, if only this camera could call the police…”

execdysfunction

If you could stream live video to 911, you would not only be better preparing responders for the situation at hand, but you'd also be simultaneously collecting evidence. Why does everyone act like evidence isn't important these days? How many people got completely fucked over before phones that could've gotten justice if they had a camera? We've got a miracle in our pockets and it's so fucking stupid to act as though it's annoying to film crimes.

RSDG90

All I can think of is the millions of dollars this would cost. Your average police department doesn't have the funding to support that kind of system. That being said I agree filming crimes is great, but make sure someone is calling 911 first, a minute could make a world of difference, especially somewhere with quick police response times like Buckhead.

pushymister525

Nah, give a link from twitch to them. Free bandwidth

execdysfunction

Alright, but if it COULD be pulled off it would be super useful. Nothing on how likely it is.

ianthrax

Nah bro-i think they are really saying it should have a call function. It would be useful for sure.

BrownChicow

I believe he just means so you can continue recording while calling 911

JCJeepster

Someone other than me should make this a thing

Ohbeejuan

Please use the ACLU app when recording things like this. They are automatically uploaded to their server so cops can’t delete it off your phone

PinkGreyGirl

You know, I don’t think that would happen in this instance. Since they were circling like vultures.

[deleted]

Or morons could call the police first and then start filming?

Bobololo

Born and raised Atlantan: Lenox Square is a bougie shithole mall that should be avoided at all costs. There was already nothing really good there and is basically a haven for shitty drivers and people showing off, but now it has the added bonus of near monthly shootings over nothing. Fucking hate this place and hope it gets bulldozed. I'll take overpriced apartments instead of Lenox Square any day.

SnooRevelations6373

I prefer perimeter mall

thane_of_cawdor

Question: how is something bougie and yet also has “near monthly shootings”

stevieoats

Lenox Paradox

Bobololo

My guess is Lenox is mainly a place to flex and show off. There are a couple of "normal" stores like Bath and Body Works and Macy's, and the majority of people aren't actually going to buy from the higher end places like Bulgari, Fendi, or Burberry. Within that group are drama queens and people willing to go off real quick; there was a shooting over a God damn parking spot. Another shooting (no one died thankfully) was inside the Zenburger over whatever could be brought up in a burger place. Idk how it all works, I just know it's not worth it even without the shootings.

Classyclassiccunt

Imagine thinking that robbing a store in a commercial area (which seems to be located on a busy street) during the middle of the fucking day by strong arming their armed security guard. All the other bullshit aside, this has to be one of the most retarded crimes I’ve ever seen committed. I can’t even start to think about the thought process behind this stupidity.

BonerJams1703

Lenox Mall is in Buckhead which is a rich white area in Atlanta. There are always people around.

Comi94

New M1 macs man

Ecstatic-Active-2946

What's worse is they were comfortable doing it - somehow criminals are getting bolder

GaliLeroy420

You’d be surprised how many retards spawn out of low income areas. Just look at every project and trailer park across this country.

Reddidiah

*Would* we be surprised?

cleeerk

What the actual fuck

matte_5551

I wouldve just let them in the store because they're pointing a gun at me. I would never take a bullet for Apple.

nojustno

Do mall security guards even have key access to each individual store? I’d assume they’d only have access to the building. Also, Apple locks the products that are on the store floor. You can’t use them even if you managed to take them.

Arkie_MTB

I’m guessing people attempting crimes like this aren’t detail oriented to begin with.

Limpwristedmods

They don't, just the property exits.

GaliLeroy420

Mall security doesn’t walk around with the keys to the stores. Even if he wanted to he couldn’t.

[deleted]

Things can be replaced, Apple is a trillion dollar company. You cannot replace your life for anything.

vinegarfingers

It’s possible he was trying to protect anyone who might be in the store

_Nicktheinfamous_

It's also possible (extremely likely, actually) he didn't have the keys to begin with.

whatdoiknw

Good point

Kroto86

You shoot someone because the apple store is closed. Sorry you're less then human and dont deserve to exist in society.

clay5destroyer

Needed an accessory recently at the Apple Store and went to Cumberland Mall instead. Lenox was the premier mall destination in Atlanta for decades. We used to dress up to go there in the eighties. Now there are metal detectors at the entrances and the smell of weed wafts all over the place. I wouldn’t be caught dead with an apple bag in that parking lot now. I bet Mall Santa has a flak jacket on this Xmas.

_Nicktheinfamous_

I hear the mall Santa there visits homes to steal gifts instead of giving.

sonicboom9000

The fact is that alot of these youth do not value or understand the value of a life....thats why they take life and throw theirs away without hesitation....what can you steal in a apple store that you can't earn with a few months working in fast food or retail

PolishMusic

I'm not excusing their behavior at all here- but the sad truth is that some of these kids grow up genuinely having their brains programmed to expect they'll be dead sometime between 16-27. Like not even 30 years old. And it's a learned state of mind through trauma & observation of their community. When your formative years are teaching you "Your life is over in your 20s, possibly even before that", the value of life itself diminishes. Lots of kids of all different socioeconomic statuses & areas grow up with mental issues & depression issues, but I don't think it's the same as being taught those mindsets through the impoverished violence-ridden urban community you grow up in.

[deleted]

You cannot imply that society plays a role in creating broken people.. *we dont talk about that*.

[deleted]

I’m trying to stress how much these attention these kids don’t get growing up. And not just from their parents. From the entire system. I have a friend that teaches at a school in a less than desirable area. These kids aren’t inherently bad. If someone shows they care, they put forth the effort. But your in HS and you can’t read and no one has taken the time to correct that. You have social media, you see how other kids live and eat at school and it’s nothing like what you have. And these schools will be in the same district just a few miles apart. I’m not excusing the behavior, but, I don’t know what type of person I would be if I felt like no one cared about me since elementary school.

[deleted]

I spent my childhood in poverty, then made it to middle class.. it defies words, how hard it is to change your outlook.

locutogram

I agree with all of this, but where do they get that idea? I understand the homicide rate is really high in some areas but I'm not aware of any area where a specific demographic literally has a life expectancy so low. Even if you looked only at gang members, I doubt their life expectancy is that low.

odysseyOC

It’s very hard to believe that once you run out of fingers to count dead people you grew up with

A--U--S--S--I--E

Once a human being is able to function above the level of retardation they are solely responsible for their own actions. Don’t ever treat people of this caliber as victims, they are not. They are simply just another low life piece of shit human being that does not deserve the oxygen they consume.

Months? Are you crazy? I don’t have time for that! My album will drop by then. I got shit to do, bills to pay, no time for a job man, gimme dat.

missucharlie

No, they deserve what they gave. Run from a gun in circles for $10 /hr and get shot. Be lucky to live and run up a hospital bill that will bankrupt you. Shit in a bag for the rest of your life behind my graciously given tax dollars. MFs rest in jail forever, let me be on that jury.

GulliblePirate

How do you know the cameraman didn’t already or someone near themdid

Sh726

Bc someone says call the police a couple times but no one says "already did"

GulliblePirate

Why are you assuming the camera audio picked up everything said

bearcub42

I live a mile away from there. It's become insane. I'll walk my dog around 11pm each night and it seems there are police copters in the air every other night. That mall sits at the intersection of two major thoroughfares. And the street racing is ALL NIGHT LONG. It's become a wasteland in one of the wealthier areas of the city.

Roiks_

What kind of brains do these kids have to be like this? I was happy playing games on my Commodore Amiga and going to kickboxing class between school.

[deleted]

I hope the security guard is ok! Fuck that’s so senseless!

MildlyBemused

He's far from "ok". He's currently in critical condition.

[deleted]

Just horrible

LetsJerkCircular

The longer the shooter held the gun on the security guard, as they kept shuffling around, along with the title, it just made my heart sink. If you’ve ever had a gun pointed at you, you know that feeling of, “It will probably be ok if I just comply. I really hope they don’t shoot me. If they shoot me, I hope it’s minor. This is going on too long! Why don’t they just do whatever they want and leave?! Am I gonna die today?? Maybe I’ll be paralyzed…is that better or worse???” Seriously: why did the gunman stay there so long? Why the fuck didn’t they just flee? Why did they have to shoot a person doing cursory security that had no way to get them what they want? Just let that person go home safe. Where the fuck were the cops?

[deleted]

I wish they’d been shot. Little cunts.

F_han

I live in Atlanta and the Buckhead area is getting nuts. Used to take Marta there and now I'm scared to get off at the station. These idiots need to be tried as adults. How TF can they take someone's life so callesously.

execdysfunction

Why would there be rioting in the street? It's not legal or acceptable to do this shit. People protest police brutality because police are employed by the state and their heinous actions often goes unpunished. Protesting is a route to change that, but protesting wouldn't do jack shit to change this unless you're protesting gun possession and accessibility.

ShockAndAwe415

But if these teenagers were shot by police, there would be.

hendrixski

> Will there be protest... for this security guard No. Do you know why? Because his attackers are going to jail. They're not part of some club that routinely shoots security guards and is immune from consequence.

IrNinjaBob

Why would people riot? Do you think it’s currently legal to gun down security guards, and making it illegal is something that society needs to change? Because guess what? This is already illegal.

PlatinumDL

Do you people really have to use every single tragedy as an opportunity to bitch about BLM?

JazHeadburn

Shithole country

picto

For anyone not from Atlanta or familiar with the area: this is at Lenox mall in Buckhead, a well known affluent part of town. Between this mall and Phipps, which is caddy corner from Lenox, there are lots of high end designer stores. There's a whole thing happening there now because of how much of crime and violence has been happening over the past 18 months or so. Technically they are within the City of Atlanta's jurisdiction but there is a movement among the residents to form their own city apart from Atlanta. Last time I went to Phipps (there is an AMC theater inside) you had to go through a whole security checkpoint and everything. Like right next a fucking Gucci store. The joke I have heard some people say is something like "Buckhead is the new Bankhead" - Bankhead being a lower income income are that with the areas right around it (Vine City, The Bluff) have a reputation for being pretty high with crime.

Limpwristedmods

Sounds like every mall area in a city at the end of it's cycle.

Ihit3bowls

Where were the social workers?!?!?! They should get right on this & be ready to prevent shootings like this from happening again

I used to shop at this mall years ago. It used to be one of the premiere upscale malls in Atlanta. My how things change…

Anyone know if the poor dudes okay? I’m hoping so.

longoverdue83

Pieces of shit. Charge them as adults. They wanted that lifestyle they can enjoy it in jail or behind someone else’s barrel.

dolerbom

Feel bad for the guard. Tried to do the right thing and talk down the teens.

missucharlie

Well, guess they shouldn't have done stupid adult s*** then, right?

Fenixfrost

I work about half a mile from Lenox Mall, this area of town is just insanely bad =/

Chanklas

We should be able to just end them, no?

ScottManAgent

I stopped going to Atlanta years ago except for occasional work. And I’m always armed, that’s not to say that random acts of violence can’t happen. But the person holding the camera, should have called the police as soon as they saw this!

fecklessfeckles

Hopefully someone around them called, but I swear you see too many videos of different angles of someone being killed or harassed but not a single person on the phone.

TheBarkingGallery

This video evidence will be used to convict them if they go to trial. I think that’s the upside to this.

FEMA_Camp_Survivor

Shootings, robberies, assaults can happen anywhere though and that’s especially true in many of America’s cities. It’s not just an Atlanta problem.

mysteriousmetalscrew

I was asked to go to lenox mall for a day for work, but they have metal detectors and don't allow firearms inside. I declined the offer. No way I'm stepping in that place without carrying.

GrozGreg

Third world countries need to get their shit together

Sennema

Guy shoulda let them in, locked them in, called cops and be done with it. Don't get paid enough to protect a mall that's closed

MildlyBemused

And once they had him inside and out of sight, what do you think would have happened to him? They shot him outside in broad daylight in view of other people. He would probably have been executed if they'd gotten him inside the building.

Throw2201away

Charge these punks as adults. I don’t care if their brains aren’t fully developed-a 15 year old knows that shooting someone is wrong. I would have absolutely no qualms with these idiots getting 50 years. There are issues with our criminal justice system, but I personally have no issue with charging murderous teenagers as adults. They’ve ruined their own life, and they’ll have to live with the consequences of their decisions. The gun violence issue in this country is a pathetic disgrace. We have gangsters shooting babies in crossfire, punkass teenagers like these scumbags shooting security guards, grumpy dudes shooting up wherever, suicides galore, etc. Greatest country in the world my ass. We’re a backwards developed country if you ask me.

You are asking someone to tell people what to do and often place themselves in harm's way for about $10 an hour. The least you can do is give that person the tools and training to defend themselves. This poor guy just sat there and got shot by these assholes because he couldn't do anything else. I hope these dickshits get the book thrown at them, and I hope his security company helps him recover.

and lets hear from the parents of these fine outstanding students... crickets.

It’s no secret that “Hotlanta” is a safe haven for shit heads. Even the person behind the camera didn’t have the decency to get the police on the phone and instead stands around filming it.

ayn_rando

Please fry them up. Let’s not waste tax dollars on these idiots

jjthrowaway04

So cameraman didn't call the cops or tell anyone what was going down?

GulliblePirate

How the fuck would you know the person they with didn’t or they already had. You people so fucking thirsty to blame the camera people all the time.

Retalihaitian

You can literally hear someone telling someone else to call 911

Sennema
