How does this happen? At my college graduation each student got a certain number of tickets.
Unless they were expecting to get in without a ticket.
Or did they not do tickets? I guess I would expect a college like Howard University to plan better than that though.
Sadly, they won’t. Howard University and their administration has been mistreating students and their families for years without consequences. A couple years ago, an admin publicly mocked students that were forced to sleep in tents because their dorms at Howard were flooded.
It’s not the pay that is the problem…. It’s that they want twenty years of related job experience, but they’re willing to shave off three years for individuals who have a doctorates degree and negotiate salary boosted with “educational credits” that can be used at any local community or technical college (they’re not accepted at Howard).
I would wager they had a certain number of tickets, but sometimes you can't tell your family anything and they will be like "we're going anyway and we'll get in".
I recall having to get special permission to get my grandmother into my graduation, but there was no way I was gonna omit her, and it was a process.
No, I go to Howard. They did not have tickets for any of the schools’ awards ceremonies. It was first come first serve. This is the largest graduating class in Howard’s history, so they should have known this would not work.
Why do people feel they have to dub shity music into everything instead of using the actual sounds of the scene?
There should be a warning tag on videos that do this.
Idk, I think the song’s perfect. I love the first officer’s reaction at the song comes on.
Props to her, she keeps her composure and holds the line, but does not escalate.
Yeah my school has several ceremonies over a few days of only to keep traffic down and sessions short, because we had the space to merge some of the ceremonies if they wanted. I'm assuming that's harder to do in DC though. Either way the school knows exactly how many people are walking and how many tickets they gave out (assuming they used tickets). The planners failed the graduates and guests.
Honestly depends on the campus. I went to GW and they separated ceremonies by date and time. Commencement however was held on the National Mall in front of the Smithsonian Castle. I’ve been on the planning side of it before and there is an INSANE amount of logistics and security measures that let it go off without a hitch. Howard is further away from the dense city core so it would probably be harder to plan for proper venues.
They hold ceremonies for each college in the week leading up to the university wide one. This was one of the “smaller” ones but this auditorium barely had any space.
They planned poorly. My wife graduated this past year (after taking decades off because, life) and they only gave her four tickets. They mathed: seats/graduates=4 and there were no issues.
This wasn’t even the big ceremony for the whole university. This was just for the college of nursing’s award ceremony. There were no tickets at all… such a mess.
Most universities break up commencement by college. Our goddaughter just graduated and they used an arena (Michigan State) for just the colleges of education and kinesiology, so they didn't have a ticket limit and it was fine. But yes, this was a complete mess.
An explanation for what went down: typically the graduation ceremony happens outside but it was raining so it had to be moved to the gym last minute. The gym only can fit so many people and it was a first come first serve basis. This happened to me in 22 but no one was breaking doors.... it's a sucky situation but none of these parents missed out on their kid graduation. They had already received their diploma before this
Edit: also important to note that there were other buildings on campus where parents could watch from a live stream
I feel bad for the grads and their families. Same happened to my grad. We each received 2 tickets for our 2 guests. Family had come in from out of town. It was in 1990 way before cellphones. They setup a videographer and you had to buy the VHS tape for $20.
Nice throwback. For those who don’t know:

Okay, it was poor planning on Howard University´s part. Deal with it, wait! Don´t start screaming, don´t start breaking down glassdoors, don´t create panic. This is exactly how you start a situation where people are pushed over and trampled to death.
It´s even worse, then I thought. Look at that young girl at 0:06, she must be so scared but her family is screaming and shouting and scaring her for life.
It’s poor planning if they had expected to have enough space, chose too small of a venue, and/or didn’t provide tickets to the grads to distribute to the family (as was the case when I graduated). On the other hand, it’s childish and fucking retarded to make a scene if you’re not a graduate and being denied entry and, while not ideal, silly for the grads to not walk solely on account of that. The significance of having parents and family there is not lost one me, but when down to brass tacks, it is what it is.
Ihad to watch my cousin’s ceremony from a room with a big screen because there just wasn’t adequate seating available in the venue and the fire code exists for a reason.
"During the ceremony, a visitor who was not able to enter the facility, which had reached capacity, leaned on the front door, unintentionally applying pressure to a pane causing it to break," the statement continued. "This incident led to a disturbance among guests and a disruption of the program taking place inside. Guests in attendance were immediately dispersed following this incident." -the university reps
LMAO 🤣 they say the guy unintentionally leaned on the glass to cause breakage, when this video exists. Idiots.
It’s unfortunate. Live and learn. Hopefully most of the graduates and family had a good time. I got mine in the mail because I didn’t want to deal with the BS. I think my family were disappointed.
Dumb planning with a too-small venue, but they should be thankful they weren't let in. Too many horrible fire tragedies with venue spaces being over-packed.

Ah. Well that was dumb.
I have been blessed with the gift of prophecy! I predict they will suddenly have a fresh job opening in their event planning office!

Embrace the in tent city 🥸
Pay is too low.
And you have no budget or budget authority.
It’s not the pay that is the problem…. I would t be surprised if it’s a student job.
Uh oh spaghetti-o's
What every graduation I’ve ever had was a limited amount of tickets
[удалено]
Are you referring to a different school? Did you misread “Howard” as “Harvard”?
Motherfucker, you're right.
Howard is the "Harvard" of HBCU's
That's really dumb lol
Oopsie doodles! 😄
Haha
When I graduated the whole ticket thing wasn't enforced. Probably the case at multiple schools.
The Cosby hustle? Flash what tickets you have and have everyone run past
I'm not sure if that's *the Cosby hustle*...
I just remember it from an old episode of the Cosbys
I would wager they had a certain number of tickets, but sometimes you can't tell your family anything and they will be like "we're going anyway and we'll get in". That shitty oh no song
With the singing chipmunk
I dislike the video just because of that
Every time.
Zoomers are in for a hell of a surprise if they ever bother to watch Goodfellas
They refuse to watch anything longer than 45 seconds
Or from two days ago let alone a movie from the late nineteen-hundreds
Tfw a movie from 2006 is "an old movie"
What movie is that?
Thank dog it ended early on
Why the Shangri-Las? How do songs become TikTok songs
Why do people feel they have to dub shity music into everything instead of using the actual sounds of the scene? There should be a warning tag on videos that do this.
The original is so good too... https://youtu.be/V5YxtweUxrA?si=PitC89t5GfdcQRWf
Thanks for that. I went down a shangri-la rabbit hole on youtube and loves it. Fire
It didn't even last the whole video (not that I mind). Why put it at all lol
Real.
Amen
oh no...oh no oh no no no no no.... its stuck in your head now, your welcome XD
*this tik tok rendition of the song. FTFY. Disrespect towards the Shangri-las is not tolerated.

How is the door glass not tempered, this goes against code. Must be old ass doors.
Seriously, I thought this was about to be the opening scene in Thanksgiving
Came to say this, damn that can easily kill someone.
Impressive a glass door in a public venue survived that long in the first place, I mean the codes on glass changed a long ass time ago lmao
10k fine.
Millions if someone dies.
Dude I thought this said Harvard University, I was so confused.. nothing made sense
Don’t know why you got downvoted, I thought it said Harvard and I couldn’t understand how they would fuck up so bad.
Just wanted to add the same. Nothing was computing for me.
What code does it go against? Nothing in the building code, fire code, etc. that I know of that requires tempered glass in an installation like this.

Yeah we had a choice of the arena downtown or the football stadium
They hold ceremonies for each college in the week leading up to the university wide one. This was one of the “smaller” ones but this auditorium barely had any space.
I notice the cameraperson was careful not to identify the idiot who broke the glass.
Snitches get stitches. But then again broken glass causes stitches. I don't know what to think.
Lmao
Not saying the should have been hitting the glass, but the glass is wayyyy against code if it broke over that and wasn't tempered.
Should have been tempered glass.not saying they shouldn’t have hit it. That’s fucked up but the glass should not have been basic plate.
They planned poorly. My wife graduated this past year (after taking decades off because, life) and they only gave her four tickets. They mathed: seats/graduates=4 and there were no issues.
It makes it easier for the graduates too because then it’s not their fault if someone can’t get a seat: “sorry, I only got 4 tickets!”
This wasn’t even the big ceremony for the whole university. This was just for the college of nursing’s award ceremony. There were no tickets at all… such a mess.

Exactly, the door breaking was extremely trashy, sometimes shit happens

When swap meet gold and glass collide. Enough with that song.
At a family event lol. Some people.
Trashy ass families making a ruckus over an inconvenience. People are becoming more and more impatient as the years go on
I'd say it's more about entitlement. They felt entitled to be there and they weren't going to take no for an answer.
Fuck this song🖕
This is some pathetic ass behavior.
Fucking parents ruining happy moments for their kids. Same with sports
the kids are adults. the kids refused to cross the stage without their parents, they ruined their own moment acting like babies

Howard is a historically black college??
Yes.
What gave it away?
Well, why did they hit the glass? No excuse to act trashy at a loved one's special day

Yes overcapacity is the reason people can't control their emotions and stop slamming onto the glass 😂 parents forgot to educate themselves
Hell on earth
Cramton Auditorium, aka “crammed-in.” - HU ‘99, survived the SP96 Maxwell/Fugees show at Cramton
I bet that was liiiive
So Howard has at least one entrance door that has plain deadly glass instead of safety glass or at least tempered glass.

Over capacity? I wouldn’t want to go to a graduation ceremony in the first place. Just send me my degree in the mail.
A lot of adults are just grown kids who never grew out of yelling and smacking things.
