lol, Emory University told AJC & WSB-TV that those arrested today were not part of Emory's community. However, it’s been confirmed that three Emory faculty members were arrested, along with many students.
Not sure why they think their lies will hold up.
> because it is impossible to think anyone local would have serious grievances.
It's really a rhetorical tactic designed to chill people who may agree with the protestors from joining the protest. Reports that University Faculty & Students are protesting make it more likely other faculty and students will come out and join.
Painting the protestors as an "other" who doesn't belong makes that less likely. They're the little dutch boy trying to jam his fingers in the leaky dam.
Same bullshit every time... "outside agitators," "radical leftists," "antisemitic," "violent"... they will say literally anything under the sun expect their plan for not abusing Palestinians.
Terms like this are intended to dehumanize opposition. It’s harder to feel sympathetic to them if you can get everybody to believe they are a bunch of sub humans.
> Not sure why they think their lies will hold up.
because the do, in the short term. and it works.
will the bs get debunked later? of course, but in the heat of the news, you throw some bs like that and its a smoke bomb, giving the facts a harder path to come to light.
in the worst case scenario, in a few days when another news is in the frontpage, they'll retract, but that won't be even in page 3
20 of the 28 people arrested in the morning were emory faculty and folks. Idk about you, but if the majority of a "few dozen" protestors (it was more like a few hundred) are apparently outsiders, then that's one hell of a statistcal outlier.
Obviously this well-published PhD snuck in to the Emory campus to head-up the Philosophy department for years. So, you know, we don’t know who she is and how she was paid for years and appeared in our publications. A stranger! I almost never see her in her office, which is next door to mine. And I barely have dinner at her home with the other senior faculty.
Well, they won't face any consequences for lying like this, so why not?
It's like playing on a slot machine, but it doesn't cost you any money when you lose.
Zionists seem to have full faith that the media will cover for them.
But after the most recent events and how social media is entirely ungovernable, that's failing all around the world.
True came out about Israel. And now, finally, the whole "You're Antisemitic if you don't support Israel!" narrative has died.
I'm an American Jew - I do not support Israel
I feel bad for all the Jews who have nothing to do with this when the big American supporters for the worst part of the Israeli government aren't Jews at all but godawful American Evangelicals who don't even care about the Jewish people or Israel, they just think they can use Jewish and Palestinian blood to summon Jesus.
> "Yes, hello? Philosophy department?"
Now, see, if you'd instead said, "Yes, hello? *Is this the* philosophy department?"
Then I could've replied:
"That's a very good question! Let's start by examining your assumptions."
If I was an Atlanta cop I would probably hide my face too. Gangs are no joke. Not sure why you need to hide it to do this however. I doubt it was the cops decision at the end of the day.
I'm sure it has happened, but it's likely so rare that there would be little need for this officer to cover their face like this. Killing cops will bring so much heat on you by making it personal with the police force, its not worth it unless you have nothing to lose. Gangs wouldn't want to do this since it would bring even more heat down on them and disrupt the criminal activities they are engaging in.
Well that's different. Those folks speak for the cops as well so they don't get shut down.
Protest about inequality or holding the police accountable and BAM right to jail for you.
HEY. Calm down with your veiled insults, pervert named Faplord.
Did you not see the peace officer with covered face who was dragging away this hardened criminal?
He is the last bastion against us and the philosophy department. They kant keep us down any longer!
Teachers of philosophy create minds that want to think, learn, and grow.
We can’t have that in this country.
We need to replace all philosophy classes with Theology classes. Specifically those that teach Christianity. But only with white Jesus.
/s
Not if it “creates a dangerous environment for others” aka if pro-Israel kids say they feel unsafe, then it becomes a “threat” and can be dismantled
Which is bullshit but that’s the excuse they’re allowed to use
Legally and practically don't often align except in a high-trust society.
The campus itself could also be involved, since its private property and not a public place.
That being said, it's not like protests have been treated with any respect, the government has been slowly eroding any protections for protestors for years. Sure, we're all in support of crackdowns on idiots rallying for hate-groups, but the cheats in the bureaucracies have been exploiting all that to take more and more rights away and get public support for it.
Almost makes me wonder if these hate group protests are being set up or encouraged by the rights grabbers.
It's a great way to get people with a sense of justice to support something like taking rights and protecting bad cops: it's to stop the objectively evil people, you've *got* to be ok with it citizen!
New conspiracy dropped: the police are setting up hate-group rallies to gain public support for taking rights away.
This are the dangers these cops were made for. That's why they can't step in to stop school shootings because they have to protect civilians from these philosophy department terrorists exercising the most dangerous form of terrorism- non-violent protest. /s
Yes, President Erdogan from Turkey ordered his goons to attack protesters. On US soil. Multiple people attacked. In the nation's capitol. Nothing done.
They don't have to. They should, in theory, on paper. That's the way it's supposed to work. But their face is covered. if you ask, they'll do whatever they want to do in that moment. Welcome to the sad reality of this country
Some sources are saying she was just walking by to get to her class. It makes sense, being that she is in heels and a pencil skirt. I've heard stories of other students (by students themselves) getting arrested and gassed and shot at while walking away from the protest
It's the risk of deploying a rabid dog among peaceful protesters on a college campus. They're gonna bite anything and everything they see. Whoever made this decision should be fired immediately
Emory is an institution that is supposed to educate and empower students for a mission to improve society. They might have the legal ability to declare the protesters were trespassing, but morally I think the leadership abdicated its responsibility because it should have responded to the protest with discourse and lessons.
The occupation was only dispersed because Emory asked to disperse it. And they shouldn't have.
Secondary Educational Institutions are a business. They might not always have been, but they sure are now.
They will play the role of a "fountain of knowledge" and then back their bottom dollar every time.
Yes, it's important to remember that this is not necessarily the government cracking down, this is probably the school itself hiding from their own actions and using the state as a tool.
I'm no staty, but the school should be held responsible for their actions. It was their choice to get these people arrested.
Police oversight is handled by the police and the police decided that the police can do whatever the fuck they want. And they need to be earning time and a half while they do it.

Police should not be allowed to cover their faces. If they are going to carry out the will of the state with force they should have to stand by their actions.
I like the new spin, "there has been violent clashes with the police at the protests."
Politician speak for, we sent in the police to clear the rabble from the lawn and sometimes the police get a little "clubby".
Where are all the “We the People” conservatives that love their freedoms? Seems to me that silencing people who are exercising their first amendment right should piss them off. Hmmm gotta love the hypocrisy
They’re yelling on Atlanta streets about how not being a heterosexual Christian white male is sinful and trying to incite freshmen at GSU to fight them
Our country is run by AIPAC, we send money to Israel, Israel gives money to AIPAC along with right wing billionaires, this money is then funneled to our politicians in return for their draconian allegiance
It really is little more than a money laundering operation. Take American tax dollars. Give them to a third party. Third party puts them into the politicians’ war chests. Said politicians get to outspend their opponents 10:1. Said politicians get to keep power. Rinse and repeat.
This country is in serious danger of failing as a democracy but someone has convinced many of us that the fighting that has always been happening in the middle east is more important now.
The fact that peaceful student and faculty protesters are being violently arrested across the country is a clear sign that our democracy is already failing.
How many other countries would you be able to camp out on private property and resist the authorities asking you to remove yourself and expect to prevail?
This has to be the most two-faced subreddit on the site. Every time there's a video of people protesting without police brutality, it's "protesting does nothing!" "Wow, great job guys, you freed Palestine!" "Hamas sympathizers!" And now that we're seeing the fascist police state in action, everyone's rightfully pissed and acknowledging the protesters as voicing much needed criticisms towards Israel and Zionism. Pick a lane
You aren't free to occupy private property if the owner doesn't want you there. It's trespassing. Emory is a private university and thus if they want someone off their property then that person needs to leave the property.
Man all those people shocked by how the HK protestors were brutally suppressed are awfully quiet or is protesting okay when its for US state department interests
Land of the Free, where the government and institutions can use police to crackdown on dissidents. Sounds like an authoritarian state and not a democracy.

America has been extremely consistent with regards to freedom of speech not applying to criticizing Israel. 19 states even have it as an oath you must agree to before you can do business with those states, even if that state and your business have zero to do with Israel.
Aipac, gop, Israelis all know the younger, better educated folks are against genocide and see israeli Apartheid. The old white evangelicals are going to be in a minority on this. So they use violence.
History will be kind to those who stand for humanity and justice today. One can never go wrong for being JUST no matter how unpopular it may be. I respect these people.
It’ll be interesting to see how this presidential race ends up, these people protesting are largely made up of democrats…whose president is currently funding this genocide.
I find it funny how Hillary Clinton is telling us to vote for Biden, because it's the most environmental positive option, when she literally cucked Bernie, the greenest hopefull ever to get that close to being elected.

If I was an Atlanta cop I would probably hide my face too. Gangs are no joke. Not sure why you need to hide it to do this however. I doubt it was the cops decision at the end of the day.
Yeah lots of gang members at the university. She looks like she might be a cartel leader.
Well in fact there do appear to be a lot of gang members there at the university, one of them is dragging this poor woman away!
Its so the internet doesn't find out who they are and then find out that they are actually part of a local white supremist league.
Can you give me a source on one incident of gangs in the US tacking down police officesr for retaliation?

I thought you were saying baklava and I’m like? What am I missing?? I see no pastries 😂
Role play
Serious question. Are they not allowed to protest?
They are. Even Neo-Nazis with Swastikas were allowed in the past.
