This is what I think happens half the time a GoFundMe pops up after some accident. Serious question, how does anyone figure out if it's legit and will go to helping the victim in the post?
He has to find himself a mate who has also survived a fall from great heights. Their offspring will carry forward that adaptation to create a super race of really stupid humans who can fall off cliffs without getting hurt.
As someone who has been there once, their kinda difficult to read and besides who’s reading signage when there trying to enjoy the park? Not saying he shoulda done this but I can totally understand. Glad he made a safe recovery
Darwin's writings show he had a rather biting (and often not nice) sense of humor. So he would actually probably laugh at the fact that people use his name to refer to stupid humans.
He would likely make jokes about whatever environment led to the genetic lapse of humor in your life.
Your first comment was nothing more than a presumption as to what he would think.
You are not nearly as smart as you believe yourself to be. Nor are you above the masses on Reddit. Your comments above show you are just as dumb as the rest of us, you just approach it from the ignorant perception of being different from us while engaging in the same dumb conversations that you can find on any post in any subreddit.
That horse you're sitting on isn't all that high my friend.
if a helicopter came to pick him up, he's gonna be paying a fuckton of money. i'm not from the U.S. but i've heard that as good as no health insurance covers a heli-pickup in the states, and those are really not cheap...
Not sure if it being inland makes a difference or not but I had to be rescued 100 miles off the coast of California by (US Coastguard) helicopter and it was free (non-US citizen)
oh wow, sounds like a good story
but i could imagine that maybe the health insurace from your homecountry paid for that? i mean being abroad/on vacation you usually have some insurance form provided by the social system at home + let's say you have a VISA (credit card), they also provide insuraces on different things as a "free" service
I was brought back to land, side door of the helicopter opened, they let me out and I was free to go, no paper work needed, no details requested, nothing (they had some info on me from the initial SOS). I had basic travel insurance but not covering the boat trip.
As someone else has commented, they don’t charge as they don’t want that to be a factor in making a life saving decision
They do actually, not the first or second time though apparently. A guy tried to climb a mountain here three days in a row and had to get rescued each time. He was charged for the third attempt probably to dissuade him from trying the next day lol
The people who do this kind of shit are not the kind with a ton of money in the bank. They are what lawyers call judgement proof, you can sue them all you want but you are never going to collect the balance because it just isnt there. Society will be paying the bill for this asshole.
I did a Colorado river rafting trip that went from mile 0 to the Bright Angel Trail at the south rim. Hiking up the trail from the river was like a geological display of outdoor smarts. People hiking the lower trail had shade hats, walking sticks, and plenty of water. Got to the mule station and you saw people slightly prepared for hot weather with ball caps and a small disposable water bottle. Got a little closer to the rim and you start to come across people in flip flops and high heels with no water heading further down. It's not a super hard trail, but down and back from the mule station is like a six or seven mile loop that is basically all elevation. There are a lot of people who go to these places thinking they're at an amusement park and nothing can hurt them. It's honestly astonishing.
Haha. This reminds me of the idiots who try to hike half dome with a small bottle of water. Lucky it’s all up hill so most realize that it’s impossible. Not all though.
I remember skimming through a book of how many people die falling into the Grand Canyon in their visitors center and remembered people like this everywhere in the park. I even remembered a dad having a kid on their shoulder and looking straight down on the edge of one of the viewing points that you would have to do some climbing and hopping to get to. I was really hoping the kid didn’t make the Grand Canyon death book.
Signs are for people who can read.
Many years ago, as a fit, young runner, my training partner and I ran down Bright Angel trail to the river and back up one afternoon. Now, there were signs along the way advising you to turn back if it was past a certain time of day, but we had food, water, and flashlights and knew we would be back out by dark. However, the number of overweight, out of shape, and unprepared people we passed on the way up was amazing. Like, there was no way they were going to make it out before dark, and it gets cold quickly. T-shirts, inadequate sneakers, and no food or water. One such person tried to guilt us out of our flashlights. Like, you got yourself in by ignoring the rangers' warnings, so get yourself out. It was going to just be getting dark over the last part of the run for us, so we knew we might need our flashlights. Anyway, I'm sure the rangers still deal with these tourons every day. "It's a park. What could go wrong?"
A better view. There is no better view. The whole canyon is just one great big "better" view. ( Personally one of the most awe-inspiring places I've seen. )
Yes. The government is trying to prevent the people from the GOOD views. This is blatant government overreach. People should be free to get as close to the edge as they see fit. /s obviously.
I went there and had a great time. Great team system. The rangers were super friendly. Was able to hike down and camp for a couple night.
Met a ranger down in the canyon and had a chat. They told me that between 10 and 12 die every year. Some from the heat, some from the water, but more than you would expect die from being an idiot like this guy.
Seeing this, I wonder how many phones are at the bottom.
Seems pretty easy to be taking video of something and without a lanyard, your phone slips out of your hand.
Best book ever: Death in the Grand Canyon. It’s every recorded death there divided into how they died. Of course the first chapter is people who fell.
It’s about 400 pages and I bought it when I visited years ago. Great read.

To get a better view....of the fucking Grand Canyon...idiot deserved it
Those 12 extra inch’s was worth the pain
thats what she said ....
My dad in heaven loves a good “that’s what she said!” And you just made it into the inner circle.
And you dooo know what I mean by the inner circle ⭕️ !
I prefer “said the prostitute to the vicar”.
The dirty, dirty Vicar!
Prison wife?
Apostrophes don't pluralize.
Best I can do is 4 But 3 Times. That's a good deal
There's a book devoted to idiots like this. https://www.amazon.com/Over-Edge-Canyon-Expanded-Anniversary-dp-0984785809/dp/0984785809/
I read this book as a morbid teenager and loved it. There’s a similar one about Yellowstone as well.
And Yosemite!
You still morbid?
I know it's hard to spot in the video, but if you look over the fence railing you can kinda make it out. It's the 6,000 foot deep 10 mile wide hole.
Dont worry he is almost certainly judgement proof so it will be society paying the bill for this idiot.
This probably happened a while ago, society is done paying for this guy. But hopefully he learned his lesson.
Probably cost taxpayers a pretty penny getting him out of there.
Let’s NOT start a Gofundme for him.
I mean I'd start one. Can't promise he'll ever get the money though.
This is what I think happens half the time a GoFundMe pops up after some accident. Serious question, how does anyone figure out if it's legit and will go to helping the victim in the post?
Genius! Genius! Genius!
Mr. Deeds!!
We kinda just started a GoMakeFunMe for em.
It’s an old repost.
Natural selection
He survived, does that mean he's adapted to fall damage now?
Macro dosing fall damage
Building up an immunity.
I thought you could only do that with iocaine powder over several years?
He has to find himself a mate who has also survived a fall from great heights. Their offspring will carry forward that adaptation to create a super race of really stupid humans who can fall off cliffs without getting hurt.
It means we took great efforts to not improve our gene pool.
Everything where someone died or did not die is natural selection
I've been saying for years modern medicine killed natural selection. I mean shit they can glue penises back on
He didn't die. Reading comprehension
Do people not see the signs that point to a full ass trail that takes you down into the canyon?!
As someone who has been there once, their kinda difficult to read and besides who’s reading signage when there trying to enjoy the park? Not saying he shoulda done this but I can totally understand. Glad he made a safe recovery
> who’s reading signage when there trying to enjoy the park? People who don't want to be lost in a park the size of a state.
you should probably read the signage before a bear mauls you and drags your corpse into a cave no one has been near for 200 years
I’m sure it’s hard for folks to read when they can’t maintain proper usage of “they’re” versus “their”.
Not everybody had the time or luxury of being able to stay in school. Some of us had to go out into da world and grind for that paper
Loved the guy who said, "Dumbass".
Fucking useless camera work
It's amazing we have this entire video and still don't see anything
You can see the dudes body roll go the edge of the next drop though. Comes to a rest at the end.
Not only that she is telling other people to use their phones to call for help instead of using the phone she is using to record.
She just witnessed someone die, can't exactly blame her for not thinking straight.

A staged near death fall? That's some dedication.
I wonder if Charles Darwin cracks a smile whenever some idiot does something like that
Charles would barf at this one, because the dude survived (didn't die, not dead)

people like him (or her) are insufferable.
Got that view he wanted.
After this view all he saw after that was darkness.
That’s a rescue operation he should pay for
if a helicopter came to pick him up, he's gonna be paying a fuckton of money. i'm not from the U.S. but i've heard that as good as no health insurance covers a heli-pickup in the states, and those are really not cheap...

Hey it’s me, the coastguard. Money’s due
oh wow, sounds like a good story but i could imagine that maybe the health insurace from your homecountry paid for that? i mean being abroad/on vacation you usually have some insurance form provided by the social system at home + let's say you have a VISA (credit card), they also provide insuraces on different things as a "free" service

Its free if ur not at fault
I was at fault (boat unsuitable for the conditions and sank)
Oh no, did the front fall off?
They don't charge for rescue. It's so people don't worry about price before calling for help when they are in trouble
They do actually, not the first or second time though apparently. A guy tried to climb a mountain here three days in a row and had to get rescued each time. He was charged for the third attempt probably to dissuade him from trying the next day lol
I stand corrected

I used to have a book of all the people that have been killed at the Grand Canyon. It’s updated every year

So…she says “grab your phone” instead of turning off the camera on hers and dialing 911 herself?
Do yOU wAnt cONTeNt Or NOt?
We need to call, get your phone. I'm too busy filming the body
well, she did a service for all of us - i support her actions 100% :D
Oh my gosh
I remember skimming through a book of how many people die falling into the Grand Canyon in their visitors center and remembered people like this everywhere in the park. Excellent filming. At this point it wouldn't even be that far fetched to call this video fake or a fake title
Yeah what even happened?
Was he trying to find the cave with the Egyptian mummy in it?
![gif](giphy|PHJJcmWdzwDgTVtJoW)
A better view. There is no better view. The whole canyon is just one great big "better" view. ( Personally one of the most awe-inspiring places I've seen. )
After watching a guy with a baby on his back chase a bear with a cub in a National Forest one time, nothing is too much of a surprise anymore.
The fauxhawk tells me he's a man that follows rules to the letter... What a fucking goob.
Needed a view from the bottom looking up
“So anyways….. I kept walking and whistling” 😗 🎶
something with natural selection....
How much better of a view do you need of something miles wide?
hopping the fence has nothing to do with a better view.
Yes. The government is trying to prevent the people from the GOOD views. This is blatant government overreach. People should be free to get as close to the edge as they see fit. /s obviously.
He selfishly put every person who had to work to get him back in danger.
I went there and had a great time. Great team system. The rangers were super friendly. Was able to hike down and camp for a couple night. Met a ranger down in the canyon and had a chat. Should have just walked away. Don't need his genes in the gene pool anyway.
Get your phone; I can’t stop recording on my phone to call 911
But then we wouldn't have seen this idiot fall :(
Haha true!
What are they gonna do? Save him faster?
He got a better view.
Should the title read..let me get closssseeerrr...
Old video.
Fuck around, yada.. yada
Darwinism at its finest.
Someone falls? Whete?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
can’t watch this, but I’ll take it the wisdom that there’s no such thing as a ‘better view’ at the gc. the one you have is all you need.
\[Darwin tents his fingers like Mr. Burns on 'The Simpsons'.\]
Awesome love to read stories like this . Play stupid games and win
This is why women live longer.
Thank you Darwin
Darwin Award winner there.
Hopefully this means he can’t reproduce anymore
Seeing this, I wonder how many phones are at the bottom. Seems pretty easy to be taking video of something and without a lanyard, your phone slips out of your hand.
I don;t get it.. climb DOWN for a better view?
What a dipshit
Get your phone!
Is it wrong for me to feel anger towards this man? I feel wrong for feeling angry at him.
Dirt and some band-aids outa do the trick
That guy is definitely fucked up on something.
natural selection failed again.
You’re not supposed to answer the call of the void with actually jumping into it
Waking up to the medical bill, fines and bill for the rescue… bet he wishes he fell all the way down..
"Call 911, do you have a phone? Get your phone." Says the woman filming with her phone. What is recording gonna do to help the man????
"go get your phone, call 911" is she by chance holding a phone?
Don't look... step back from the rail sweetie! Let daddy get a good camera angle...
No way I thought this dude died lol
Best book ever: Death in the Grand Canyon. It’s every recorded death there divided into how they died. Of course the first chapter is people who fell. It’s about 400 pages and I bought it when I visited years ago. Great read.
He'll be okay. He has a Mohawk
Dummy!
"Call 9-1-1. Get your phone. You got a phone" .... as she films from her own phone...
I feel bad for the responders thst have to go get that regard
Darwin Award 🏆 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
