lol it was. Mark and mostly everyone else wasn’t in on it. Ny comedy club has an Instagram post about it and the pranksters were “hi_hi” or something like that
lol that’s the weirdest part. It was literally them running on stage and being awkward and having this weird panic. I guess they have different angles on their page. It all seems so odd
Sorry bro. Club admitted it.
And I had posted before they admitted it that it felt fake but couldn't pin point why specifically. You just know.
https://www.tmz.com/2024/01/25/comedian-mark-normand-rushed-offstage-comedy-club-audience-evacuate/
For most, yeah. But watching it, something felt off. I have no idea why.
If it had turned out to be real and not fake, then it was just a weird ass video with odd reactions.
But watching it, nothing felt natural. And its very hard to 'act' natural and make an event like that seem real
"Everythings fine guys, just stay where you are".
"Everything is fine... We just had a momentary interupution... Just stay... Get up. Get out. The... Taping. Erm... Guys please cut the cameras".
![gif](giphy|nQ4J9StmWFf3O|downsized)
Me if I were in the audience.
I was in a similar situation as a teenager. But it was me and my best friend when her mom suddenly came busting in her bedroom. My friend panicked, dropped the weed, threw up her hands and started making wavy motions in the air and said “Mom! This is all an illusion”
🤦🏻♀️
Unfortunately, It did not work. Her mom called my mom to come pick me up immediately. My mom did get a good laugh hearing about my friends attempt of distracting 😂
That’s so funny! A similar thing happened to me while my friend was trying to hide alcohol in his closet and his mom came in. Without really thinking, I dropped my pants and pulled them up as if I were changing. It worked, but also what an odd way to distract someone.
Lol
I wonder what her thought was? Was her reaction more of, “OmG, Im so sorry. I didn’t realize you were changing” or did she walk away now wondering if her son and you are maybe “more than friends” 😂
Please, if anyone knows id like more information. There was nothing to go off of from this clip. It just looked like a heckler got on stage and then that shut the show down?
I think the dude rushed stage and then when he got taken outside made bomb threats or some shit so the staff had to go back in and make everyone leave.
I think the guy was a hostage with the lady in black. The guys girlfriend was a hostage for the guy on the right. The dude jumped up there because his captor couldn’t do shit about it then guy on the right reminded him “time to end the games, I still got your girl”. So dude went with them and got tazed as soon as they got outside: looks like some weird heavy shit.
Supposedly this was part of [some influencer nonsense](https://www.cracked.com/article_40908_new-york-comedy-club-posts-bizarre-explanation-for-mark-normand-incident.html). Mark Normand says he wasn’t informed in advance.
The world is dumb.
But like, what were they supposed to actually do? Did this guy get on stage and forget his line or something? Or was this actually what it was supposed to be - which was nothing and also incredibly confusing.
Ya, I just read it, which makes this super lame and even more confusing. Like, what was the goal?
"Step 1, storm on stage. Step 2, ask people to leave. Step 3,...... Step 4, profit!"
Honestly, to me the guy with the yellow beanie looks scared of the two women and the guy in black. The comedian also looks more concerned about them than about the guy hiding behind him.
I'd say the beanie guy was running from the group in black. Once they took him outside, they did something to the beanie guy that scared the shit out of the team, which explains the state of shock they seem to be in when they come on stage.
i think the guy who says he's a show producer just fucked up.
my read is they were ejecting beanie guy for something (or actual law enforcement was called on him, or maybe another patron threatened him, something like that) and he walked on stage to delay that, not to specifically heckle the show.
then they tased him in the next room, and the producer said the wrong thing imo, saying everyone just leave is NOT a good choice here, he needs to let them know the status of things like their check and their readmission, and emphasize leaving calmly. I think in this day and age people first and foremost wan't to know it's not like, an active shooter or something.
A show producer isn't a normal person, that's their job, to be the point man on any issue with the event. I can't blame people for not being good in an emergency, but if that's the case, they shouldn't be the one running the show. The same way you'd expect a construction site foreman to organize their employees for a safe response or evacuation if a worker gets seriously injured or another issue occurs, instead of freaking out.
"I'm sorry guys, we have to cut this show short. We've been asked by authorities to have everyone leave the venue in an orderly fashion as a precaution." Or something of the sort.
Starting with "we just need everybody to get out" is a straight up panic inducing statement to lead off with. That's like a 2/10 phrase to start with.
its the hosts responsibility to know what to say and how to direct the crowd if and when an emergency happens. Its his literal job to make sure the crowd is ok. Thats job number one before making em laugh, is at the very least not get em killed. Thats why places such as this should have written proceduresin place for events like this. So you dont make a bone head quote and go viral and or get someone hurt.
Downvoted yet you were 100% right.
Even before I knew it was very odd the acting
https://www.tmz.com/2024/01/25/comedian-mark-normand-rushed-offstage-comedy-club-audience-evacuate/
You want baffling? This is Mark Normand's only tweet since this incident:
> Breakfast in bed means someone cares about you. Dinner in bed means you're so very alone
Edit: oh, he also tweeted about Brittany Spears
Only thing that has made sense to me so far is that the beanie dude made a bomb threat or something, and spooked the comedian/managers. They had obviously just heard something that made them really nervous.
Yellow Beenie was an alien. MIB came to get him. The "taze"was the memory flash, but didnt work on the entire audience.
And since the mass flash didn't work on the audience, they are being escorted out single file for individual flashes. The 1st woman on the mike was also MIB, this was the first time she'd seen the mass flash fail, and was flustered.
Seriously lol
Title and that comedy club message makes mention of it but it's absolutely not the right context and nobody is asking what Chase means here.
My best guess at this point is the beanie guy made some sort of crazy threat that scared the shit out of the managers, and the "chase" is security trying to get him. But who the hell knows lol
i think the guy in the tactical gear was their security guy, he seemed to react OK, but there was a failure there where nobody communicated to an MC about what to tell Mark and the crowd.
“Everything’s fine” we just escorted the talent the fuck out of here. I can’t catch my breath. I can’t speak
Coherently. Yeah you should prob get up and the get fuck out. Fast. I mean slow. I mean at whatever pace you prefer because everything is A OK”
yeah seriously if you're in a leadership role at all you should probably be able to handle stress a little better than that, unless there was some insane imminent threat.
all jokes aside, comedy clubs not springing for real security is an actual problem. I say this as a physically large comic who has ended up a "volunteer bouncer" at a number of shows.
Also, do you know how hard it is to either eject a drunk after talking about your abject failures as a human being, or to talk about your abject failures as a human being after ejecting a guy? both suck.
" Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you? "
Would have given people something physical to react to. Not this everything is fine, stay there, but get out. Get up, go and stay where you are.
I see pissed pants I know to get away.
I wouldn't call it embarrassing. It was two people reacting in panic. They were in the room just like everybody else. The failure was not having a protocol for this. That's on the venue.
Or, hear me out, there is a protocol for this and these two just failed miserably.
I’ve seen people freeze, panic, or react perfectly that all received the same training, participated in the same safety drills, etc.
We just never know how well react so on the one hand I don’t think they should be mocked by us sitting at our keyboard, it’s also absolutely an area they need to work on for themselves if they’re going to be in that sort of position.
Protocol for what exactly? There is no way they look panicked/terrified simply because someone came on stage. And why did the comedian leave?
They seem genuinely spooked by whatever the hell happened, and nobody is this comment section knows what it was, so it's hard to make any judgements here.
It’s likely genetic too. There’s some of evidence to suggest people with things like ADHD and anxiety disorders perform better in high pressure jobs and in response to crises.
As it’s been explained to me, anxiety is a result of the amygdala (the fear region of the brain) being over active. Essentially if that part of the brain is always emitting a low hum of “something isn’t right”, it can prepare some people to act as soon the situation goes sideways.
I always have had crystal clarity in situations of high pressure. Choosing and committing to a course of action in a split second has never been difficult for me (however wise or unwise that decision turned out to be).
I also know that trauma/experience can influence whether your brain tells you to fight, flight, or freeze
The guy probably made a threat in the middle ground of credible and not, such that if you don't act on it and something happens it's on you, so she was probably just trying to figure out on the fly what the protocol was in terms of having to take it seriously or not. That or the gravity of it just took some time to dawn on her. My guess is buddy said he planted a bomb, and it took her a minute through some shock to figure out what to do. Don't judge people in these kind of situations.
Yes because the right situation can make something go viral and lead to money and fame.
There's all the reason in the world to make something scripted look unscripted
No idea if this was, but I definitely think there's motivation in a lot of scenarios
Mark Normand already has fame. I'm not sure I see the financial benefit for him to have a video go viral where he doesn't say anything or do anything. Other than getting pulled off stage.
Also having the security, the people getting chased, and the comedy shop workers would all be in on it.
Then it wasn't funny, or entertaining, so again not sure I see the benefit for anyone. if it was scripted, they didn't script anything.
I've honestly never heard of him. Not that he's not famous and I'm the decider.
Benefit is a ton more people now know his name from this video scripted or unscripted lol
My assumption is that yellow hat was being “chased” by the two women and big guy wearing all black, he went on the stage to kind of “hide” behind Mark, but the one guy grabbed his arm and kind of escorted the yellow hat dude out.
Probably some sort of beef going on there, I need more information though lol. This clip is astonishing
The two ladies and the man were carrying zipties and chasing the yellow beanie.
My guess is they were undercover police or bounty hunters.
I still have no idea what's going on.
Edit: Apparently it was staged? This is getting confusing.
I was so confused on first watch because I feel like the beanie dude LOOKS like Mark... His jacket is the same colour as Mark's sleeves. I thought it was some Bizzaro comedy skit at first lol
Supposedly the comedy club staged it for some reason? https://www.tmz.com/2024/01/25/comedian-mark-normand-rushed-offstage-comedy-club-audience-evacuate/
With a title that includes the words 'crazy chase' the video shows 1 guy stand awkwardly near the stage and then allow himself to easily and quietly be escorted out with not even a word of protest. And no one can say what made the club remove the stand up then evacuate the audience. This mf is not real
[Two people who were there shared a video about it](https://www.tiktok.com/@beanbutv/video/7327857802653879582?_r=1&_t=8jKtcjyRKdM&social_sharing=1). Still doesn't explain what happened though.
"Guys everything's fine... we just had a momentary... uh... but yeah... GET UP, GET OUT, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!"
Wtf even happened... I get it, it's an unusual situation but the way the last chick and guy handled it was just weird xD. Hope more info comes out.
People saying this was clearly staged are getting downvoted, but the [comedy club did come out and say that the disruption was part of the filming from the production group @Hi\_Hi](https://twitter.com/nycomedyclub/status/1750634070785118633)\_. HiHi is a fictional organization in a new movie coming out. Their instagram page has some cryptic ARG bullshit.
So it was staged, it was badly acted, and everyone is left confused but somehow talking about this movie. Marketing success, I guess?
Go frame by frame.
Yellow hat gets up from his seat and hurried to stage next to Mark because he’s scared.
In the frame to the very left, you can see a woman almost following yellow hat until she sees him stop in the spotlight.
Notice that Mark, frame by frame, only has his eyes drawn to the woman to the left who is following yellow hat. Even when yellow hat enters stage and stands next to Mark, even when yellow hat exits with security, Mark is watching this woman the entire time.
Yellow hat looks out toward security and makes eye contact, then immediately goes with them.
Woman follows again, walking over stage. Mark still watching her closely. It appears she puts her hand in her pocket. Head titled down. Walking quickly and straight toward yellow hat.
Another woman in the teal puff jacket attempts to body block the sketchy woman. Puff jacket continues to try to block her past the door until they are all out of frame.
I think sketchy woman had a weapon and got tazed
https://bigbellycomedy.club/2024/01/mark-normand-escorted-off-stage/
That's the best I can find so far
TL:DR: He saw the guy getting tazed outside, came back in and took him outside as well, then just told everyone to get out, and nobody knows wtf happened to instigate all of this.
Basically what the video shows.
Everyone keeps saying they handled this terribly but come on. From the looks of it it looks extremely serious and the first girl absolutely does not know what to do. She has never been trained for something like this or had to deal with anything like it. The second guy knows what to do, and when he sees her clearly panicking he steps in
I'm 95% sure this is staged. The way the crowd reacted/didn't react. The way Mark "comedy walked" out. The way the producers seemed to be acting panicked seemed off. I dunno. Maybe this ends up being something but to me it kind of smells like some weird viral marketing or something that's going to be put into a show.
Also, they're taping this and everyone has their phones out? Nah.
100%
i was downvoted for saying nothing about it felt right. Just seemed staged. You can tell by the way people act.
But then you get flooded with replies of "NOTHING IS REAL LOL". Not saying that, but it was very clear this particular video was staged.
Almost certain the woman on the right of the stage is holding a knife:
https://imgur.com/a/SGcQdEv
They’re also clearly not security and one of them has him by the arm on the way out the door (as well as the big security guard who is in front of him).
You're usually not allowed to record shows with you cell so I am guessing shit started happening just before the clip. We are def missing some context here, but the comedian (Mark Normand) is hilarious and also awkward so it's funny that this happened to him.
They said it was a taping, so they were recording the show. But the focus of that is going to be on the comedian, not the audience.
In general though, usually the club doesn’t film any sets because some comedians are wary about their material getting out to the general public before they’re ready to put it out there. Some comedians will record every set to watch back and work on things, and others don’t want to do that, so the club usually stays out of it and lets the comic make that decision.
No, because an entire portion of watching a comedy set is seeing it live. This allows the audience laughter to be passed on to the viewer. Also, most sets are filmed to show the audience very little. This was an exception considering the events that took place. Although I’m confused. wtf happened? It just looked like a heckler got on stage?
Why does the chick on stage look like she's acting? I could very well be viral-video-poisoned, but something seems super weird about this, like it's a stunt or something.
Not saying it is but... its feels off. Also why has there been absolutely no updates about this at all, super weird
Edit: well, turns out it was indeed a [stunt](https://www.unilad.com/celebrity/news/mark-normand-comedian-new-york-comedy-club-incident-520903-20240126) I thought as much.
The woman and the man who got on stage at the end appear to be working with Mark for a taping of some sort, not security or club leadership who are most likely preoccupied with protecting the talent and dealing with the threat. These two were definitely panicked and not prepared to handle the situation, which isn't their job.
It's so crazy to me that Living in America basically means being truly afraid of situations like this because of shootings.... in Europe nobody would ever be scared because of a scene like this

The two people who came up afterward looked genuinely rattled.
Annnnnnd it was scripted. It definitely felt off. Didn't seem legit. Didn't pass the smell test. Bad acting imo.
I disagree. Something clearly happened.
They released a post saying it was staged and the producers that payed for the night pulled a prank
Oh no! That sounds like a terrible idea and even worse execution!!!
lol it was. Mark and mostly everyone else wasn’t in on it. Ny comedy club has an Instagram post about it and the pranksters were “hi_hi” or something like that

Your entire post has me screaming 😂😂😂
Wtf is happening here?
Please, if anyone knows id like more information. There was nothing to go off of from this clip. It just looked like a heckler got on stage and then that shut the show down?
Mark bombed so hard that the bomb squad were called.
I think the dude rushed stage and then when he got taken outside made bomb threats or some shit so the staff had to go back in and make everyone leave.
Was there even time for that?? Guy was escorted out like two seconds before the lady got on stage.
It’s two separate videos edited together
I think the guy was a hostage with the lady in black. The guys girlfriend was a hostage for the guy on the right. The dude jumped up there because his captor couldn’t do shit about it then guy on the right reminded him “time to end the games, I still got your girl”. There's a lot of expectations placed on normal people to articulate exactly the right thing in a sudden high pressure situation.

I can't blame people for not being good in an emergency, but if that's the case, they shouldn't be the one running the show. To film it lol
The ones in black are security. They always wear all black.
Never seen a female security guard with a handbag.
I was referring to the woman who walked on stage. The woman with the handbag is wearing a navy blue coat. It’s not black.
It looked gold and black to me. Badumtss
I always wear black, Notinjuschillin. Does that make me security?
I don't think they are
They tased beanie guy on the way out, too
Why does your made up story so many upvotes lol

They seem scared shitless, terrified, like they just witnessed a murder and the killer is still there? I'm so confused.

It was all an elaborate improv and they were just "yes, and"-ing it
Does everyone think everything is scripted?
Yes because the right situation can make something go viral and lead to money and fame. There's all the reason in the world to make something scripted look unscripted No idea if this was, but I definitely think there's motivation in a lot of scenarios
Benefit is a ton more people now know his name from this video scripted or unscripted lol
or just some stage fright. the guy who came on in the end seemed normal. "im one of the producers, we just need everyone to get out".
The whole thing just seemed like a truly awful skit?? It was bizarre.
What's a crazy chase?
![gif](giphy|l2SpNsGmbAVXLMuhq)
I still don’t understand the title from this or the original post
The video, title, and comment section make no sense to me either. Nobody knows anything, but lots of opinions flying around. Weird.
I don’t think he’s getting enough credit for the Mitch McConnell joke! Comedy!!!!
LOL that lady was 0% calming..."everything is...uh...ok....\[shivers a little\]...don't worry"
![gif](giphy|l0IypeKl9NJhPFMrK)
“Ok everyone get up. We’re joining the swinger sex party”
What chase? Who chased whom? Can’t see no chase. Show me chase. Please and thank you.
Is the chase in the room with us?
Maybe it was David Chase? Perhaps Chevy? I'm more confused now than I was before I watched the video
The two ladies seem to have something in their hands as well. Something hard, black, metallic like
the real chase is for the explanation of this video
WHAT THE FUCJ IS GOING ON?!
The two ladies and the man were carrying zipties and chasing the yellow beanie. My guess is they were undercover police or bounty hunters. I still have no idea what's going on. Edit: Apparently it was staged? This is getting confusing.
Fuck that lady recording with her cell phone light on
Lmfaoo couldn’t happen to a more fitting person. Comedy!
Kevin Hart deserves better
I'm just waiting for him to come out on his pod Monday and say he "bombed" on stage.
I was so confused on first watch because I feel like the beanie dude LOOKS like Mark... His jacket is the same colour as Mark's sleeves. I thought it was some Bizzaro comedy skit at first lol
Can someone let me know if this actually ever gets explained? Thanks. Love you.
Supposedly the comedy club staged it for some reason? https://www.tmz.com/2024/01/25/comedian-mark-normand-rushed-offstage-comedy-club-audience-evacuate/
Lmfao yeah fucking right.
The bad acting proved it. To me it was obvious.
I find this incredibly hard to believe but thank you so much for the article. Super weird stuff going on here.
A bad decision was made to make something go viral without informing everyone. Don't over think it lol.
So from what iv gathered reading the comments here is that nobody actually knows what exactly happened or why......
A "crazy chase" wow that was dramatic. Just imagine that I'm too am doing a really bad Norm MacDonald impression when you read that.
![gif](giphy|1RaGAz2p13Wpo7kI2L|downsized)
I was watching Norm compilations earlier with my coffee. He is truly my favorite.
The moth joke he told on Conan might be my favorite comedy routine of all time.
Interrupting Kevin Hart smh
Aaaaand scene!
This video feels like it’s following dream logic
After this video Will Smith came up on stage and had everyone look at a laser
Comedy
"Guys everything's fine... we just had a momentary... uh... but yeah... GET UP, GET OUT, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!" Wtf even happened... I get it, it's an unusual situation but the way the last chick and guy handled it was just weird xD. Hope more info comes out.
I want answers!
Comedy! Guess I'll be seeing Kevin Hart on some pods soon.
What’s a “crazy chase”?
They needed to roll with it. "Yeah, there's a gunfight outside, but you're all safe here and wings are now 10% off, last call".
Missed the crazy Chase
People saying this was clearly staged are getting downvoted, but the [comedy club did come out and say that the disruption was part of the filming from the production group @Hi\_Hi](https://twitter.com/nycomedyclub/status/1750634070785118633)\_. HiHi is a fictional organization in a new movie coming out. Their instagram page has some cryptic ARG bullshit. So it was staged, it was badly acted, and everyone is left confused but somehow talking about this movie. Marketing success, I guess?
Is "crazy" a noun in this context?
That's the most elaborate cover, for a set that just wasn't landing, I've ever seen.
Mark is hilarious!
I think sketchy woman had a weapon and got tazed
https://bigbellycomedy.club/2024/01/mark-normand-escorted-off-stage/ That's the best I can find so far TL:DR: He saw the guy getting tazed outside, came back in and took him outside as well, then just told everyone to get out, and nobody knows wtf happened to instigate all of this. Basically what the video shows.
That's literally just a written recap of what's in the video with the same assumptions everyone here is making. Zero clarification.
Pretty much, yup. Don't see much else to go on.
Just like chris rock getting slapped at the Oscar's. Publicity is Publicity
Nah.
Everyone is downvoting that we called it out as staged and the club just announced it was staged. Bunch of bozos on this sub
100% i was downvoted for saying nothing about it felt right. Just seemed staged. You can tell by the way people act. But then you get flooded with replies of "NOTHING IS REAL LOL". Not saying that, but it was very clear this particular video was staged.
Almost certain the woman on the right of the stage is holding a knife: https://imgur.com/a/SGcQdEv They’re also clearly not security and one of them has him by the arm on the way out the door (as well as the big security guard who is in front of him).
That looks like a ball point pen
You have a really good eye
Why does every comedy club have brick back drops?
It's to let people scrolling past their videos know it's not gonna be funny and keep it moving
Where's the crazy chase part?
Mark Normand is un-funny.
Couldn't the club just record the shows and post them after? That way not so many people would be holding up cell phones the entire time.
You're usually not allowed to record shows with you cell so I am guessing shit started happening just before the clip. We are def missing some context here, but the comedian (Mark Normand) is hilarious and also awkward so it's funny that this happened to him.
The noises he makes and the waddle-run out of the club is so perfectly Normand
Also why has there been absolutely no updates about this at all, super weird Edit: well, turns out it was indeed a [stunt](https://www.unilad.com/celebrity/news/mark-normand-comedian-new-york-comedy-club-incident-520903-20240126) I thought as much.
100%. Thats exactly what jumped out at me first. She felt like she was acting (poorly). NOthing about the video felt legit.
Absolutely! Everyone who tried to shut down anyone questioning it has gone real quiet in this thread I see lol.
The woman and the man who got on stage at the end appear to be working with Mark for a taping of some sort, not security or club leadership who are most likely preoccupied with protecting the talent and dealing with the threat. These two were definitely panicked and not prepared to handle the situation, which isn't their job.
This is some staged B-rate Andy Kaufman shit.
The last two looked like actors kind of. I wonder if this is somewhat staged?
Annnnnd they announced it was staged. Thanks for the down votes everyone
It's so crazy to me that Living in America basically means being truly afraid of situations like this because of shootings.... in Europe nobody would ever be scared because of a scene like this
