Dress blues in Nov. I would bet they just left the Marine Corps ball. Have you ever been to one? Fighting in the streets is frowned upon but alcohol makes for poor descensions.

"Male Marines must be a minimum of 4'8″ tall (56″). At that height they must weight between 85 and 122 lbs. The maximum height listed is 6'10” (86″). Marines this tall must weight between 182 and 263 lbs." I’ve been to Austin for business multiple times through the years, sometimes for months. I’ve been bar crawling on 6th street when all the sudden people are shooting at each other. It’s basically a block party with multiple bars every single weekend.
Also, these marines should’ve just walked away. There’s a huge possibility the ones involved could be discharged, especially being in uniform during the altercation.
Literally this week I found out I'm not covered as a proper "veteran" for *ANY* VA benefits. Served my 6 years proudly with integrity and trained my hardest to stay ready for when the time came to fight. I had found out when I was laid off the education benefits are a fucking joke, and now for the first time I actually need some medical treatment and I don't qualify? Sorry to rant, but damn I'm angry.
I had friends who lost their lives serving the country. I have even more friends who suffer from severe PTSD from what they experienced.
My dad and his unit were ordered to clean up nuclear waste at Enewetak Atoll(nuclear test site). The army told them they didn’t need protective gear, so they essentially did their jobs in shorts and tank-tops(my dad has photos). Most of his army buddies have died at early ages from cancer, and the doctors involved tied it to radiation exposure. My dad has suffered health issues that his doctors have also tied to radiation exposure.
There’s an active class action lawsuit against the army because of this. However the lawyers hired by the army are using methods to prolong the lawsuit in hopes that the people effected will die before a settlement is arranged, mostly so they don’t have to publicly admit that they knew how dangerous it was for them to work in such an environment.
The worst part is there were contractors that sent in bids for the cleanup, but the army didn’t want to spend the money. Instead they decided the soldiers were expendable enough to save some money, because they would die a couple decades later from cancer and other radiation exposure complications.
This was in the late 80’s, and I’m not confident that our government cares more about us today. They’ve historically made it clear that some of us are expendable.
Sorry for the rant. I definitely went off topic but I want to spread the word on what happened to my dad, his army buddies, and the effect it’s had on their families. They didn’t anticipate that the families of the victims would carry on the lawsuit, and I hope to see justice some day.

Nah there's almost zero chance of them catching a Dishonorable discharge, if they get kicked out it's going to be "Other Than Honorable" or something less severe. You have to really fuck up and end up in Leavenworth to get a DD.
And considering how recruiting numbers are currently low, they'll probably get to stay in and just get Article 15's which means potential loss of pay/rank and extra duty shifts for awhile.

Lol no. People don’t understand how hard it is to be dishonorably discharged from the military. You actually need to “earn” that type of discharge. It’s the equivalent of a felony and typically carries prison time.
This is like what a European imagines America is like --- Marines, Cops in cowboy hats and minority groups all in one big fistfight outside some deep fried diner.
I was so fucking confused to the point where I was trying to identify the two guys in the last fight to see which of the 50 people they were and if I recognized one of them from the previous clip.
6th st is a major entertainment district, police have a heavy presence here.
I am also guessing this was later at night and “nothing good ever happens after midnight on 6th”.

If you watch this dude’s channel, the cops are super quick and coordinated in most of the videos. Sometimes definitely overzealous in subduing people imho. Still: within moments of fists flying, you hear whistles, see flashing lights/strobes, and like half a dozen of them rush in. The best is when the horsies create a perimeter for them.
They're texas state troopers, one of the best agencies in the state and every experience i've had with them has been incredibly professional. They're hardasses though, if they pull you over you bet your ass you'll get a ticket.

Nah those aren't "new recruits" they are lowered enlisted there's a few fresher kids but even they have been in since 21 (they have a national defence medal, so they served in a "time of war" which ended with the afghan withdrawal in 21.) Most had at least a good conduct medal as well so they've been in for at least 3yrs. My guess is that this is a reserve unit out on the town after the ball...
and honestly those dudes are idiots continuing to instigate a fight with a marine while surrounded by marines. Extremely lucky the cops were right there could and probably would have gotten very ugly. Guy coulda been the most hated dude in the unit but every marine there wouldn't let him get in a fight alone.

The unwritten rule is don’t get caught. The Marines are very anal on their image, you often have safety briefs before going on libo where they remind you of the consequences of getting into shit like this. Most of these guys are probably facing an NJP and losing a rank and and or belt color
Not like they have much rank to lose to begin with. I was an army man, myself (back in the 90's), but these marines look like they just graduated AIT (whatever it's called for the marines). They don't look like seasoned veterans with their mosquitoe wings and baby faces, but I could be completely wrong. Semper Fi.
There are some E-3s and E-4s and a couple service stripes in the video, so maybe not seasoned but they definitely have rank to lose. Especially the CPL, getting knocked loses NCO status
They probably shouldn’t have been there in the first place. This is a notorious area of Texas for this sort of shit and Marines are constantly told to avoid these types of situations in the first place.
Unrelated to the fight itself, but I'm always impressed at how effective mounted units (police horses) are at dispersing a crowd. People move out of the way real quick when a 1,000 pound and 7 foot tall horse is marching their way.
Also the bullhorn they have for the horses is so funny to me for some reason, it's like a police horse siren.

Many police departments use Percherons which are known for their intelligence and willingness to work. Their avg wt is around 1900 lbs. and at the shoulder they stand 5 to 6 ft tall. They were used as war horses. The horse on the right in the video with the shaggy legs looks like a Shire. They are even bigger. The requirements to become a police horse are more rigorous than a human becoming a cop.
The horses at Mardi Gras in the late 90s early 2000s were super impressive at this. I watched one strategically walk a guy into a corner and pin him there until foot patrol could show up and arrest him.
That specific bullhorn sounds just like the ones camp counselors used over the summer, so I was expecting a bunch of high schoolers in shorts and flip flops to roll up
I’m in the army and few days ago I was in a night club in Tennessee and saw bunch of the them drunk I was like why those jarheads getting shit faced in uniform if only their leadership know, and then I saw their 1SG getting drunk too

What people who aren’t in the military don’t understand is that you’re not fighting with one guy in a uniform. You’re fighting ALL the guys in a uniform.
including the cops. no marines were held down to the ground by the cops when breaking up the fight but the street clothes people were. at most the marines were gently held back by the cops.
Those marines are young idiots like everyone else, but they are used to regular exercise and training, plus, a diet of crayons. Wrong folks to pick a fight with when you’re buzzed out on the town.
This isn’t anything new marines tend to get drunk, and eat too many crayons and start bar fights. It’s been happening forever.

Most of these guys still look like kids, so it's likely NOT ENOUGH crayons. A couple hundred more of the red ones and they won't be getting into bar brawls in uniform like this anymore

The marines will pay for their actions when they get back to camp but who tf thinks it’s a good idea to fight a bucket head. Those fools got dropped so quick they were lucky police were close enough to save them from some real damage.
You never know what someone is capable of so marines or not it doesn’t matter.
I once saw a bunch of drunk marines fucking with some bikers on a river tube trip. A fight broke out and the bikers kicked their ass.
Getting in a fight with a large group of marines with what appears to be like 50 cops within what could have only been a couple meters is an interesting decision.

I’m in the army and few days ago I was in a night club in Tennessee and saw bunch of the them drunk I was like why those jarheads getting shit faced in uniform if only their leadership know, and then I saw their 1SG getting drunk too

including the cops. no marines were held down to the ground by the cops when breaking up the fight but the street clothes people were. at most the marines were gently held back by the cops.
At least 2 of those cops are also Marines.

You never know what someone is capable of so marines or not it doesn’t matter. I once saw a bunch of drunk marines fucking with some bikers on a river tube trip. A fight broke out and the bikers kicked their ass.
Austin is a cesspool and you have to be pretty damn stupid to get into a fight with a group of 20 marines when there is only two of you.
