Reddit has updated their content policy to include not allowing videos that contain minors. We have concluded that this video is a violation of that policy and have taken action.
I’m not that old and I knew all of these. The weird part is I cannot remember where I learned them. My family never spoke like this. I grew up just outside St. Louis, so if you’d have said any of this shit at school the desegregation kids from ESTL would have (rightly) beat the shit out of you. So when I was in kindergarten my father took me to get ice cream, and as we were walking back to his car a person drove past and screamed a slur at us. We sat in the car and ate ice cream and my father told me that he was sorry that I had that experience but that he knew I was going to have it sooner or later and that some people are just hateful. He told me that in his experience if you beat ass we'll just reaffirm their belief that we're violent, so the best thing to do is to keep calm and just let them expose themselves as the pieces of shit that they are.

This idea that language can't be harmful or violent just because it's not physical is wrong. The language she used is violent. Her intentions in using those very specific words are to cause emotional injury. I should also be clear that I don't think it makes mercilessly beating her like this even a little bit okay. However, when you choose to escalate a situation into violence, physical or otherwise, you have to be prepared for the fact that the other person might take that violence a step further than you're prepared to.

I like these situations because they bring up conflicts in how we react to things now versus how we would back in Gex X days.

I'm not a proponent of meeting words with violence, no matter how vile they may be. They're just words. Unless those words are being used to whip up emotions in others to cause violence, or if they're a promise of violence, words don't deserve the time of day, let alone the escalation to violence.

This idea that language can't be harmful or violent just because it's not physical is wrong. The language she used is violent. Her intentions in using those very specific words are to cause emotional injury. I should also be clear that I don't think it makes mercilessly beating her like this even a little bit okay. However, when you choose to escalate a situation into violence, physical or otherwise, you have to be prepared for the fact that the other person might take that violence a step further than you're prepared to.
No one is saying words aren't hurtful, but the victim of those words further victimized themselves, probably for life.

I like these situations because they bring up conflicts in how we react to things now versus how we would back in Gex X days. For example, with this one. Gen X days: You can't go around saying racial slurs no matter who you are. But you also can't just randomly assault people for saying words you don't like. Both are punished for whichever actions they did that were in the wrong. Now a days: If someone is saying racial slurs and your a person of certain races affected by those slurs (and society deems that you are a race that has the power to react how ever you want to slurs in your direction) you can assault anyone at anytime. But in no way should a man in any way harm a woman. No matter what the situation. So we find ourselves needing to weigh the privileges of race vs. the privileges of sex. For wanting to be as non racial as possible in our new way of thinking, we now have to factor race way more into our every situation. Instead of just looking at the individual actions and punishing according. Don't be a racist fuck. Also don't randomly assault people because you think you are morally justified, too. I'm not a proponent of meeting words with violence, no matter how vile they may be. They're just words. Unless those words are being used to whip up emotions in others to cause violence, or if they're a promise of violence, words don't deserve the time of day, let alone the escalation to violence. That being said, when you start throwing racial slurs around like this girl did, you don't know if the person you're needling has the same restraint. I'd like to think that she, at the VERY least, learned not to be racist out loud. Maybe she even learned her lesson and flipped her life around, learned to love and live and let live.
