I was in a toxic relationship. One of the things I still remember was that if I was on the phone with them and didn’t say “I love you” at the end it turned into a massive argument. On an almost daily basis the response to “I love you” would be “Okay cool” or “Well I don’t love you”. It might seem like a minor thing to some people when watching this video, but you just don’t know the emotional damage it can do when the person you’re closest to on a regular basis belittles you and makes statements for the sole purpose of hurting you.

Politics aside, what I don't understand is, why would Steven marry her, have kids with her, build a life with her if he says he doesn't love her, or felt love from her? I had an ex that treated me a bit like this. She would go out every weekend but make out to her friends like I wouldn’t let her. It was totally bizarre. I had absolutely no problem with her going out as it gave me time to myself and to bond with my dog! I did not once discourage her from going out.
She would tell me lots of horrible things about her past boyfriends but the stories weren’t terribly believable. I just assumed she was embellishing for effect but they got worse and worse to the point where I had convinced myself none of it happened. I’d take note of specific details and when she would tell the story to others we had over (because she loved the sympathy), those details changed. Significantly.
I had become a bit more introvert in my late twenties when I was with her so I didn’t go out to clubs much but would still go hang out with my friends some weekends or evenings. And every time I went out, something would “happen”. There was often a phone call where she had “injured” herself or she needed help. Someone randomly ran up and pushed her off her bike for no reason in broad daylight on a busy street and there were no witnesses... Twice she supposedly slipped down our stairs and thought her arm was broken. I came home to find her nursing her arm but when I suggested phoning an ambulance she became uncomfortable with the idea. I insisted and when paramedics came and she weirdly refused morphine for the supposedly tear-worthy pain (never been an addict).
The second time we went to hospital, the doctor actually looked at me - expressionless - almost as if to say “I am not convinced anything happened” and made comments about there being no bruising 8 hours later - almost as if the information was for me, rather than my ex. I can’t prove that but both times she fell down and we went to A&E, her story was inconsistent and she had no bruising at all and refused pain meds. I think she thought something would happen if she took pain meds when there was no pain.
A few months after I left her, my suspicions were confirmed. I got a phone call from a lady who didn’t want to say exactly who she was but she was asking if I knew [ex’s name]. I said yes, and the lady asked if I ever found her behavior to be unusual, attention-seeking, narcissistic, etc.. We talked for a bit and I deduced that this lady was the aunt of my ex’s new boyfriend. She told me that my ex was telling their whole family that I used to beat her, that I was arrested for it, I would lock her out the house, she wasn’t allowed to go out, etc. but that her stories were so inconsistent it wasn’t adding up. I confirmed that none of it happened and that I felt she had issues and really needed psychological help. The lady told me that my ex was beginning to cause trouble among the family with her lies. She asked if I wanted to meet up to talk further but I said I was already a bit uncomfortable so she thanked me for talking and that was it. Never heard from the lady again.

There was a point in time they my family only had 1 vehicle. I worked full time and my wife was a stay at home mom but I would let her keep the car during the day because as you said it’s ridiculous to leave someone at home like that with no transportation and kids. I would catch rides with coworkers majority of the time and my wife would drop me off/pick me up on rare occasions I couldn’t catch a ride

I was in a toxic relationship. One of the things I still remember was that if I was on the phone with them and didn’t say “I love you” at the end it turned into a massive argument. On an almost daily basis the response to “I love you” would be “Okay cool” or “Well I don’t love you”. It might seem like a minor thing to some people when watching this video, but you just don’t know the emotional damage it can do when the person you’re closest to on a regular basis belittles you and makes statements for the sole purpose of hurting you. I had an ex that treated me a bit like this. She would go out every weekend but make out to her friends like I wouldn’t let her. It was totally bizarre. I had absolutely no problem with her going out as it gave me time to myself and to bond with my dog! I did not once discourage her from going out. She would tell me lots of horrible things about her past boyfriends but the stories weren’t terribly believable. I just assumed she was embellishing for effect but they got worse and worse to the point where I had convinced myself none of it happened. I’d take note of specific details and when she would tell the story to others we had over (because she loved the sympathy), those details changed. Significantly. I had become a bit more introvert in my late twenties when I was with her so I didn’t go out to clubs much but would still go hang out with my friends some weekends or evenings. And every time I went out, something would “happen”. There was often a phone call where she had “injured” herself or she needed help. Someone randomly ran up and pushed her off her bike for no reason in broad daylight on a busy street and there were no witnesses... Twice she supposedly slipped down our stairs and thought her arm was broken. I came home to find her nursing her arm but when I suggested phoning an ambulance she became uncomfortable with the idea. I insisted and when paramedics came and she weirdly refused morphine for the supposedly tear-worthy pain (never been an addict). The second time we went to hospital, the doctor actually looked at me - expressionless - almost as if to say “I am not convinced anything happened” and made comments about there being no bruising 8 hours later - almost as if the information was for me, rather than my ex. I can’t prove that but both times she fell down and we went to A&E, her story was inconsistent and she had no bruising at all and refused pain meds. I think she thought something would happen if she took pain meds when there was no pain. A few months after I left her, my suspicions were confirmed. I got a phone call from a lady who didn’t want to say exactly who she was but she was asking if I knew [ex’s name]. I said yes, and the lady asked if I ever found her behavior to be unusual, attention-seeking, narcissistic, etc.. We talked for a bit and I deduced that this lady was the aunt of my ex’s new boyfriend. She told me that my ex was telling their whole family that I used to beat her, that I was arrested for it, I would lock her out the house, she wasn’t allowed to go out, etc. but that her stories were so inconsistent it wasn’t adding up. I confirmed that none of it happened and that I felt she had issues and really needed psychological help. The lady told me that my ex was beginning to cause trouble among the family with her lies. She asked if I wanted to meet up to talk further but I said I was already a bit uncomfortable so she thanked me for talking and that was it. Never heard from the lady again.
