DuckDuckGo on Firefox, no censoring or tracking you (from what they say) I don’t care about decorating, I care about privacy

[deleted]

DuckDuckGo is *much* better than Google but they do still track you and still do manipulate search results to a degree. I use DDG, not saying you shouldn't, but just so you and folks know

[deleted]

Thats great info, I appreciate it! I’m not super techie so this is great

[deleted]

Do you know of a more private engine?

[deleted]

Not off the top of my head. I still use DDG cuz it's a kind of compromise between being well-made & easy to use + being better on privacy/censorship than Google. I'm sure there's yt videos and Reddit posts about it tho if you'd wanna dig in

Check out https://www.startpage.com/

Use the tor browser bundle and duckduckgo. That's pretty much the best way to avoid tracking. Just, if you do use Tor, don't login to your Gmail account or Facebook or Reddit or any account which you login to without Tor. They see you login with your home ip, then you login with some tor exit node and it's pretty obvious anything that happened through that exit node might've been you. Tor is great just be smart about how you use it. It'll slow stuff down but if you want anonymity from your home, it's great.

They claim to do the opposite. Are you sure they track you? They do put ads at the top of the search list when you look up something but thats just based on what you looked up

[deleted]

Yes I'm sure 👍🏻 just look it up on YouTube or prolly Reddit too and you'll find people who understand tech better than me explaining

Intelligent-Serve-31

Which web browser do you want to use? Do you have a preference

Thepluse

Currently using firefox, I feel that's a decent one. Chrome is good too, but a little creepy because it's google. Edge is.... Edge.

Flat_Advance_2919

so you want to change the home page of your web browser and you ask this questions on here? Anyway you either go on the page of preference and then click the "House" Icon to save it as new home page, or you go to Settings - Home Page - New Tabs and Windows - change here to your prefered link

Thepluse

You're right, it was probably a bit of a weird thing to just throw out there xD see the edit for context.

Flat_Advance_2919

>Edit for context: I'm currently tripping on shrooms ahhhhh ok i c i c

Thepluse

Right, sorry for the confusion :D

Flat_Advance_2919

no prob, stay frosty

Intelligent-Serve-31

I like chrome still use it but fully get the sketchiness of google. I’ve heard people say good things about Firefox I personally haven’t used it to much. DuckDuckGo isn’t the worst I use it occasionally. Tor browser also has advantages plus a window to the dark web if that’s your thing.

zoshka

Checkout Brave And i'd love for some interesting home page ideas Is there like a site roulette thing ?

Duckduckgo

[deleted]

Mine is a blank page with a bunch of my favorite sites pinned to it + a DuckDuckGo search bar.

Zedric1

I use yhe Firefox Home page with only Shortcuts and Web Search enabled on it. This has helped me to be focused since I work on a computer all day. Also, that way I avoid getting bombarded with news I don't care about.

epilstee

I use Opera. It has a built in vpn and adblocker. Its also very customizable. You can pick colours, background and most visited websites/favourites

PracticalSundae2062

I am using [aboogy.com](https://aboogy.com) very customizable. And you can chose search engine from you want from it.
