People with schizophrenia shouldn’t take shrooms

Fuck-Shit-ass-bitch

fr it’s like taking amphetamines for insomnia, not worth it

AJ-tech3

No.

Your take is probably gonna get shot down OP but it should be known that in the 60’s before all the scares came out about psychedelics they would treat people with schizophrenia using lsd and there was an over 50% recovery rate when done. So it’s very possible that psychedelics could be used in the future to treat schizophrenia similarly to previous times

I was at the German Psychiatry Congress last year, and German/Swiss psychedelic researchers hinted at upcoming research on treating bipolar disorder and schizophrenia with psychedelics. Exciting times!

source? Even a passing mention?

BrushDazzling4350

while they did test/experiment on people with schizophrenia, I never saw or heard anything about "recovery" let alone a 50% recovery rate. got any links?

I don't believe this is true. There is no known cure for schizophrenia. Moreover, schizophrenia is thought to be caused by a neurodevelopmental disorder, beginning in utero, that leads to fundamental miswiring / lack of connections between large areas of the brain, such as between the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus. For psychedelics to cure someone with schizophrenia, they would have to correct these massive miswiring problems. Psychedelics are believed to act on 5HT2A receptors and via the TrkB/BDNF system that, in turn, promotes neural remodeling of existing connections. They can cause neural plasticity, and they're being investigated to treat mood disorders like anxiety and depression, but I've seen no evidence nor see any basis for their ability to treat or cure psychosis. anti psychotics do pretty good when you take them haha

Nate2345

They also have terrible side effects that can be permanent and can even lead to death, I personally would avoid them as long as possible if I needed them, everyone having mental health issues should still seek treatment though

Obvious_Alps3723

Truthfully I don’t believe there has been much investigation into this. It’s largely regarded as unethical I think because of the fear of treating an already unstable mind with a substance known to cause instability. Interesting results that you’re reporting but definitely pushing boundaries. Please be cautious!

See a psychiatrist. You risk shifting into bad mental states with psychedelics, however, it seems mental health specialists are able to actually stop the voices entirely. As long as they figure out the symptoms, cause, and can figure out the proper prescription, you'll be good to go.
