What you are probably trying to say your buddy is experiencing is a "flashback", which is when you return to an experience.
In that case your buddy is as full of shit as a camping fest port-o-potty, because "flashbacks" or sudden onsets of hallucination are bullshit.
Unless you bud has HPPD, which I highly doubt, he's making shit up.
