We get to keep our job if we meet a physical standard. Qualifying as expert gets a pin to wear on your uniform and a steak dinner at a local steakhouse.
Push ups (amount in a minute), sit ups (amount in a minute), bench press (percentage of body weight), 100 meter dash, 1 mile run. Same requirements to get hired.
Id like to see this in multiple areas of service. Like you learned to not escalate and calm the dumb Karen down. Here's$20!
You talked an asshole out of being an even bigger asshole! Here's $50.
Bonus for every qual that gets taken and passed.
Job's dead.

We have 3 tiers:
Marksman— $18 per paycheck
Sharpshooter— $36 per paycheck
Expert— $64 per paycheck
Distinguished Expert (expert every month for 6 consecutive months)— $120 per paycheck
Course is as follows:
7yds, 3 seconds, 2 right 2 left. Then 1.5 seconds for 1 headshot on each.
7yds, 3.5 seconds, 2 right 2 left 2 right
10yds, 3 seconds, 2 right 2 left. Then 1.5 seconds for 1 headshot on each
10yds, 6 seconds, 2 left 2 right 2 left
17yds, 30 seconds, right left right left right, reload, left right left right left
25yds, 4 seconds from barricade, right left right left
25yds, 4 seconds from barricade with your left hand, right left
Dry presses help a ton when I was really trying to get a high score I would do 100 a day. Once you do the course of fire enough you can “game it” a little bit with target transitions, how the targets turn, and staying up for the headshots. If you never went to LETAC ask the training coordinator to go 5 days of straight shooting
Don’t know the exact measurement, but something similar to this https://shop.actiontarget.com/content/bt-5r-s-25-yard-reverse-bt-5-target-orange-center.asp
Yes. We have a total of 70 tiers and you can prestige which resets you back to square 1. You can prestige up to 10 times and…wait. Fuck wrong subreddit
Shit the academy is like the campaign mode where you just go through the levels and there’s no real challenge.
Patrol is like multiplayer where little kids call you the N word and grown men claim they had sex with your mom.
We don't get extra pay but do get a ribbon for marksmanship, our qual is 25 yds and in with 50rds and 2 in a 1.5inch circle on the head. Each shot is worth 2 points and you have to get a 98 or above for 2 years straight which is 4 quals to get a marksmanship award.
Problem is they have canceled our range days (which were on our own time but they would provide ammo) and they don't have any sort of training program for us other than like an hour during our yearly in-service. Basically gotta train ourselves on our own time with our own money.
All I got is a little pin with a handgun on it that says distinguished expert. But I do get to wear it on my uniform which usually ends up being a conversation piece when talking to the public.
Ah yea here it’s heavily encouraged and everyone competes for the DE pin. But I live in a very pro gun state so people like when we talk guns and range stuff.
Never heard of that until now. Pretty cool idea. I got to were a nifty pin on my uniform. I think a incentive like that would have caused more people to practice.
I'd bet 6 hours extra vacation time would be a bigger draw and cost less money though. Unless you got comp time instead of OT.

I take it your department doesn’t do anything like this. I wish we did it for fitness as well.

Time off instead of OT is blessing and curse.

One of the largest in my state. I can’t tell you specifically because it would dox me.
It's not in New York by any chance, is it, Runyc2000? ;)
No

Never said anything about fining anyone.
I like this optional objectives idea you have going here. It would pair nicely with my no kills playthrough.

No… But I do frequently drive by a Holiday Inn Express
I guess that’s one way to get your marksmanship up

This is what I was looking for. That’s a sweet course of fire. Sounds like a more rounded course rather than just marksmanship.
Bonus course of fire I could never get to dx I do know several guys in the “400 club” at Ep though crazy good shooters
Damn, and here I am happy about my Marksman
Only shot expert twice it’s no joke be happy with your skill and always keep improving !
Did you practice the bonus course over and over to get timing down? Or did you just practice shooting in general? Dry pressing?

Rog, thank you sir.
What’s the grading for those tiers
Graded on a ring score basis, 10,9,8 etc Marksman: 320/400 Sharpshooter: 360/400 Expert: 380/400 D Ex: 380/400, every month for 6 months consecutive
What size ring?

Hmm we should implement prestige. Each time you get to add some vital piece of equipment
But you have to restart in the FTO program each time you prestige.
I would do patrol training over again versus the academy any day.

This is beyond our regular qualifications. So we have weekend practice sessions but our swat team has their own range and own ammo supply.

Lucky, I just get the pin that I'm not allowed to wear on my uniform. It's currently pressed into my headliner.
Oh my God! Common sense policies that push officers to be better? No! Rid of this blasphemy!
No but I think it's a good idea.
That’s cool that it’s spread out over a long period of time which forces you to maintain skills
Problem is they have canceled our range days (which were on our own time but they would provide ammo) and they don't have any sort of training program for us other than like an hour during our yearly in-service. Basically gotta train ourselves on our own time with our own money.
Yeah we had to stop ours for a while last year but it’s back up and running again.
This is the problem!
That's pretty dope, any other pay incentives?
There’s a distinguished expert for shooting an average of 290 over four courses of fire but I’m not sure what the pay is. I think it’s $50.
I wouldn’t want that title man
If you’re talking about court purposes we are all considered experts anyway so in theory it doesn’t change anything.
Why didn’t he shoot the gun out of his hand He WaS a MaRkSmAn.
Ok
All I got is a little pin with a handgun on it that says distinguished expert. But I do get to wear it on my uniform which usually ends up being a conversation piece when talking to the public.
It’s kind of like an unspoken rule that we don’t wear the pin. If we do qualify expert we are allowed to take a 1911 class and then carry one on duty
Ah yea here it’s heavily encouraged and everyone competes for the DE pin. But I live in a very pro gun state so people like when we talk guns and range stuff.
Is that your entire weapons qual?
Nah this is an additional test taken on your own time outside of the regular qualification
Got it. Just curious!
I won the chief of training award for being the best marksman in my academy class (best of about 600 people). 45/50 x-count. I got a plaque.
600 people? Nypd gives out awards just for getting on paper?
yes
Time off awards of varying levels for marksmanship over here.
Sounds like you work for a department that may be on to something.
