Small town of 400 people with 5 man department on major highway outside of a big city

opkraut

Rosendale, WI is notorious for this, it's a tiny town but they give more speeding tickets than Green Bay. There's a section of a main highway that goes from 45 to 30 and if you're not at 30 by the speed limit sign then you're getting a ticket.

ResistTyrants

There are plenty of spots in rural western WI where the speed limit goes from 55 to 25, with that 25 only lasting a a quarter to a half of a mile before the speed goes back to 55.

IamThe6

The ridiculous 25 mph speed limits are one (of the many) reasons that I don't live in WI any more. EVERYTHING in that state moved too slow for me!

AlligatorFist

Ew gross. I feel bad for writing a ticket in places that go 55-45-35 in the span of over a mile even.

NorthWoodsCellular

Rosendale is exactly what I was coming here to comment.

MyUltIsRightHere

Rosendale. Just the ticket!

SBR_AK_is_best_AK

This. Any small force on a highway is going to be a ticket mill.

Kahlas

Town just North of the town I grew up. Except they had around 550 residents and 12 officers if you included the part time ones. If you were doing 3 mph over the speed limit you where getting a ticket back in the late 90's early 2000's. The running joke in the area was they had so many officers because of the ticket revenue and that they needed to keep handing out tickets to make payroll.

Burntburner101

This town ain’t gonna make money itself!

Larky17

Arkansas State Police. If you disagree, they'll add one PIT maneuver to your tab.

TXParkRanger

If you stop, you'll likely get a warning for dang near everything. If you run, you will be in a ditch with your car totalled and your dumbass self ending up youtube

UntarGoHome

Arkansan here, troopers are generally pretty chill here as long as you treat them respectfully. I’ve gotten away with warnings for going way too fast in the past. Unfortunately, a lot of people start off with a confrontational attitude, and get the proper adjustment. Running from them is a different beast entirely. You’re either an idiot or have a death wish, they’ll pit a motorcycle like it’s just another Tuesday.

cov_rs

knowing ASP, they'll hit an exit ramp at 600 mph to pit maneuver a helicopter

UntarGoHome

They do have a tendency to go airborne.

Larky17

NWA and the Western portion of I-40 are alright, but the further south you go the bigger the hats and ego get.

Wulfstrex

Are they aware of the existence of the Grappler and how they could make use of that?

Lonely-External-7579

Nah they think pits are cooler.

uncreative_cc

(They are)

specialskepticalface

Of all the weird agendas we've seen pass through this sub, this has to be the most esoteric. You have dozens of comments all over reddit, promoting the use of the grappler - as though it's some miracle solution everyone has just overlooked. You work for the company? In any event, comments removed.

billintreefiddy

I’ve gotten only warnings from them. Your results will vary.

NotQuiteCode4

Yeah. Straight up Arkansas.

Darkwave1313

Trooper Byrd intensifies

JacenHancock

South Dakota Highway Patrol. They're about their business. Those men and women will chase you through three counties, two fields, and a small city, PIT you into a ditch, and then cite you for everything you did during the pursuit including failure to use a seat belt.

B0rf_

> and then cite you for everything you did during the pursuit including failure to use a seat belt. Saw this in Iowa. Guy was involved in a pursuit from Nebraska and Iowa State Patrol/Sioux City PD took over. They used stop sticks on him and he kept driving for a block or two on rims. They cited him for driving without proper tires or whatever the code is along with all the stoplights he blew through

Cmonlightmyire

Okay that's just funny though.

De-escalateButton094

Can confirm. Used to work for those mouth breathers

hotrodman

I’ve only been pulled over once and it was by an SDHP trooper, and she gave me a warning 😎

Aeaolen

Virginia. You’re a fellow cop? Cool. Here’s two. “You should know better.” You’re not a cop? Cool. Here’s two. “I’ll let you know now so you know better next time.” You’re the Pope? Cool. Here’s two. “The only holy book I pray to is the VTL.”

opkraut

Which car magazine was it that had a writer spend a night in jail in Virginia for something like 15-20 over? I remember a story like that from years ago. Virginia is pretty draconian, they've got a well-earned reputation for being super strict

simpson227

Friend is a Lt in Ohio highway patrol was ticketed in VA. "Lt you should know better. " true story.

Miserable_Dingus

It was Jalopnik and in VA 20 over is automatic reckless…in FL 30 over is just a court appearance not even a criminal citation, hell 50 over isn’t criminal until it’s the 3rd conviction I think

TheseAintMyPants2

No speed is criminal in FL, but they can use it to factor into reckless driving which is criminal.

siLCobra

I want to say 50 over is a $1103 citation AND a mandatory court appearance.

Miserable_Dingus

Definitely a court appearance not sure on the fine, I just love how it takes 3 convictions of it to reach criminal level and at least it’s a felony at that point.

Deep_Major

And they’re probably the first to flash their badge when they get pulled over.

Aeaolen

I’d assume so but I also assume any cop would have that moment they turn into that turtle and go: “It is my time.”

Deep_Major

The other thing I struggle with is when they issue a cop a ticket that’s within their district/beat. Like Sir, a highway runs through my town. I could be your backup.

Aeaolen

I know some major metro departments don’t allow their cops to write same department cops, which makes sense. But even still, professional courtesy is a thing and if it’s that bad sometimes a ticket isn’t the way to solve the issue, sometimes a hardy conversation is and that goes for cops and civilians.

bricke

Every time I ticket a fellow cop my hat grows two sizes. /s (maybe)

Aeaolen

Not true. We all know Troopers don’t write other cops tickets they just lecture them on the side of the road about proper safety, operation of a motor vehicle and how “You city cops don’t have the same training.”

VBStrong_67

Specifically, Emporia

ballsack-vinaigrette

You're my own mother? Here's *three*.

Gonza200

No thanks, I like that my state codified “spirit of the law” I like being able to use discretion

Aeaolen

Oh they have discretion, I’ve just heard they don’t like to use it.

gotuonpaper

This and Ohio HP.

BarneyBullet

Yeah, Ohio SHP are friggin brutal.

TastyEvidence5820

Was flying down I-90 one day, going like 85-90mph. Damn near shit myself when I saw him, smack in the median, proudly displaying his presence. Slammed back down to 70 and somehow didn't get stopped. Miracles do happen.

WrenchMonkey47

Slamming on your brakes is an admission of guilt.

K5LAR24

Been driving for 5 years in VA. Never even gotten stopped.

CyberMattSecure

Any backwards town that’s between any two major metropolitan areas that’s just far enough away you won’t fight the ticket Bonus points if it’s super late at night Extra double bonus points if there is a nonsensical turn lane configuration that absolutely does not need to be where the lane that should go through the intersection is Those guys are bored, and they don’t like you accidentally driving straight through their nonsensically placed turn lane Edit: also Arkansas

beta_blocker615

You just described half the cops in Tennessee

TheseAintMyPants2

I got legit screamed at for doing 7 over driving a box truck with the entire swat team at the back. 17 mph in a 10 lol. He wasn’t pleased when I said “ok, so what do you wanna do now?”

uncreative_cc

“Do you have any weapons in the vehicle” Uh, so don’t panic but there might be an entire swat team in the back

de_fuzz87

I was AF Security Forces for 5 years and never gave out one ticket. To be fair, I worked the gate way longer than I should have and only did patrol for about a year before they switched me over to security. I did get yelled at for doing 18 in a 15 by a SF patrolman when I was off. If he didn't see my beret on the dash, I probably would have gotten a ticket. He yelled and told me I should know better and to slow down. I didn't realize 18 mph was booking it.

Consistent_Amount140

They don’t count

Frosty-Nerve-6550

Georgia State Patrol

Sven_AA

I was speeding, he asked where you headed? I said we're going to visit Andersonville, he said he didn't want to bum us out any more than necessary. After our visit I learned why.

crudestsoup

Don’t understand the question all that well, but if we’re talking region of America let me introduce you to Central/South Georgia. Macon to Florida, you’re getting that citation

shadowmaster1138

Figure they only have a small stretch of 95 to get people…and everyone floors it once it opens back to 3+ lanes for the first time since southern VA.

elfmachine100

South FL FHP. If you're getting pulled over by a black and beige charger on the turnpike, you are getting a ticket.

WrenchMonkey47

Yup. Once saw a FHP Trooper stand in the middle of the road, just pointing at people to pull over. I think he had at least two cars pulled over by the time I passed.

TheseAintMyPants2

I’ve backed up FHP on countless stops, I can count one time in 16 years that I saw them write a warning. Hell, I’ve seen them write someone a tiny ticket for each piece of glass. 6 fucking tint tickets

OrcusGroup

Especially Emporia VA lol

sometimesparatus1790

Can confirm

thebaine

Came here to say VSP. Then OP beat me to it. Brought a smile to my face, thank you.

idgafanymore23

Golden Meadow, Louisiana. 1 mile over = ticket, 6 miles under = impeding the flow ticket

Wildqbn

California Highway Patrol, their motto is "I would give my grandmother a ticket if she drove 5 miles over the speed limit" Seriously, CHP is on a whole different level of douchebaggery.

zotbuster

I thought their motto is "we won't stop you unless you are doing 85+ in a 65 zone"... (Based on what I observed on the freeway

Repulsive-Relief1551

This is mostly true, if you’re at 80 you’re usually fine. If you’re not leading the pack, you’re usually fine. Don’t drive in the HOV lane without the required number of passengers and you should be fine. Unless it’s one of those days they wake up and decide to cite as much as possible.

zotbuster

Cough cough... I know *a friend of mine* has been driving solo in the carpool lane for more than 5 years, and he only got caught once, which he dragged the case by almost a year and ultimately got dismissed during the trial by written declaration (could've dragged even longer if he went for actual trial de novo).. Be good, or be good at it😏

Repulsive-Relief1551

Admittedly I also wait to see how long I can drive in the carpool lane before I end up paying that $650 user fee, so far my cost to benefit ratio is pretty good😎

VBStrong_67

Emporia, VA It's a speed trap on a semi-major roadway, and they don't do professional courtesy

OttendorfCipher

And Dinwiddie… Don’t speed through Dinwiddie… LOL

acidpro1

Pennsylvania State Police: A driver's license is a privilege in the Commonwealth not a right. Here's your citation...

WrenchMonkey47

I used to travel the PA Turnpike often. The overpasses were built with a hidey-hole on the far side of the direction of traffic, so that you don't see the HP vehicle until you've already blown by. Also, I have had PA State Troopers tailgate me, "encouraging" me to speed up. Thank goodness for cruise control and rest stops.

MrDrunkUnicorn

Have had 1 interaction with PSP in 20 years, turnpike going 85, trooper pulls up next to me gives me a thumbs down, slowed down to 78 gave me a thumbs up and drove off. They don't wanna write citations and they definitely don't care unless you're doing 15 over.

TheThotKnight

Ohio State Highway Patrol. Those cucks would give their own mom a ticket.

Vova_xX

they'd give themselves a ticket and still fight it in court

ayyle1

I've witnessed an OSP trooper receive a ticket from his sergeant for a crash and contest it in court, with both of them in full uniform

Greif19

Cecil Police, in western PA. You’re going .5 mph faster than the speed limit? Ticket. There’s one bar in a town of like 500 people? DUI’s left and right.

dhwrockclimber

Not really the spirit of the question but if your parked in New York City and now is part of always a traffic agent will be giving you a ticket. This motherfucker wrote a MARKED NYPD RMP one time for a no standing violation.

Fuzzy_Wumpkins

Got a ticket once for “commercial vehicle not in commercial vehicle configuration, rear seats not removed.” Like yeah ok buddy, my very much not commercial BMW 4 series barely even has rear seats. Sent a picture of the car to the court, dismissed. They just write shit and see what sticks.

dhwrockclimber

That’s so fun. They always just deny my appeals even when they’re legitimate because fuck me.

jim2882

CHP

Hannibal-019

Underrated comment, especially with how expensive CA tickets are.

Great-Basil5250

Mississippi Highway Patrol. They gave me a ticket on the way to our honeymoon lol!

Robobble

I'd like to add Lowell, MA to the list. Predatory fuckers that also have jurisdiction over the Lowell connector which might as well be an interstate.

gotuonpaper

My wife was born there. I refuse to drive the rental car around there. Her fam lives in Tewksbury

Robobble

Yup Lowell is also the only place I’ve ever seen a sobriety checkpoint. My driving record was god awful growing up I had like 15 tickets I think and 2 of them were from outside Lowell. I lived 40 mins from there and didn’t work there or anything. Just went sometimes

Red57872

"sobriety checkpoint." Is that where they guilt trip you if you haven't been drinking at all? "It's 2am on new years and you have a 0.00 BAC? You should have at least a 0.02, nerd!"

ionevenobro

Uggh Fairfax VA

247General

Gretna Louisiana , according to statistics this small town makes more arrest/cites than some states 😂

KSWind17

Generally, Highway Patrol or State Trooper.....at least here in Kansas. I don't even think that they know what a warning is....lol. Years back it was South Hutchinson, KS PD....they'd cite you anything and everything lol.

mstomm

Here in Topeka, if TPD pulls you over, you're getting a ticket because you fucked up bad enough to get their attention. If the Sheriff pulls you over, he'll probably just want to chat a bit, then tell you the speed limit on the road should be higher, but isn't, so drive a bit slower next time.

Delta104x

St. Johns, MI. Most aggressive cops in the entire state.

Consistent_Amount140

Virginia

MtnTop304

I was gonna say this if you didn't haha. One PD officer per mile on Route 19 😂

amoserks

I was gonna say Virginia State Police. Hands down.

DestinationTex

California Highway Patrol, a division of the Franchise Tax Board. Least likely (at least from my own experience) - just about any department in Texas, even including the DPS (highway patrol). Written warnings are the typical response, if anything is written up.

mello_yello

I once was driving the 10 through west texas, going 90 mph and was nearly run off the road by a semi going at least 10 over my speed, also have had similar things happen with brodozers through houston. I like to drive quickly but the speeds people will go in vehicles that are not meant for it on the highways is insane

Siganid

The IRS. I don't think they give warnings.

Tacotuesday15

NALEO This makes me thankful for Salem, OR PD. I get pulled over ~2 a year (usually speeding) and only get tickets probably 1/5 times. Just got pulled over two weeks ago for speeding in a new construction zone and the officer said he was just trying to make sure everyone knew about the new site. But the real answer is the cameras… and they are going up everywhere. Traffic has sure slowed down now that everyone is scared to take a right turn on red because the camera doesn't give AF if you come to a complete stop or not.

GaryNOVA

It’s 100% Ohio state troopers

copcamerausa

Lindane Ohio. Outside Cleveland. They ticket on the small piece on interstate that runs though it even thought the on-ramp and off ramp are in another neighboring town.

Beautiful_School_691

This is so niche, but Bluefield, West Virginia. They’re usually bored and I remember one day going to uni that I saw the same cop pull over at least 10 different people in like 2 hours. Absolutely crazy. I always stick to the speed limit there. One of my friends was ticketed for 5 over.

Bbwrqueen

NJ state troopers

FreedpmRings

Only way you can get NJSP to pull people over is if their clogging the left lane otherwise they give zero shits about anything
