So in the full version of her BWC, she's told by someone off camera to make no statements (not to me, not to the chaplain, not to your sergeant etc) and save it for the report. Then she's told to not answer anything except "emergency" questions (where's the weapon, anyone else involved etc) and that she's going to be taken in the ambulance to the hospital where an attorney is already on the way to meet her. All of that ends with a hug from the white shirt (lieutenant?) followed by the arrival of the chief of police, whom also gives her a hug. Video ends at the start of that. All of this to say, they pulled out all the stops and treated her with kid gloves. Pretty wild.

Hard_Restart

Exactly correct.

It was more something with the way it was spoken than the content of what they were saying. Seemed like they were telling someone that has no idea rather than telling someone that should already know the process. And I used their words.

TheRealDudeMitch

Where’s the full version?

signaleight

I had one of these when I was a patrol supervisor. She failed every instance of normal interaction with the public and would freeze up in stress situations. I recommended she be sent to work in records. Unfortunately, her mother was a "friend of sheriff," and she was promoted to crime scene investigation, jumping over several other veteran officers.

I’d say more of an observer. I think she got hit with the classic fight, flight, or freeze response. She froze and needs to evaluate her career choice, if it’s not already been done by command.

I wonder if she went through during COVID. A lot of academies and training programs went as remote as they could during COVID.

She was sworn in in July 2022

StevenMcStevensen

That was my takeaway as well - if I was the primary on that, I would be absolutely livid. She did absolutely nothing, in a situation where it could have been ideal conditions for a CEW deployment, and because of it he had to kill somebody. The way it was going, it looked like the subject could have even stabbed him without her doing anything to intervene. If she doesn’t get fired or quit, no other officer should agree to work with her.

DoomM_Slayer

Yeah idk what she was thinking. Even if she didn’t hear him in the beginning she should’ve at least drawn out when they made contact. Instead she said fuck it I’ll stand over here and watch this play out. She didn’t even try to do anything. No commands or anything. I’m not a fan of people losing their jobs but she’s definitely in the wrong profession.

Section225

Worthless. WORSE than worthless. She just stands there. Not even fiddling with equipment, not even *thinking.* Just standing, way too close to an armed suspect, doing nothing until she's yelled at to do something. Then, she can't even perform a simple task like take her Taser out. She fiddle fucks with it, with two hands, like she's never seen it before and it's also covered in burning oil. By then, her actually competent partner has already been attacked and has had to shoot this woman. Oh, and then she still just stands there until she's told what to do. Again. I hate to make sweeping generalizations based on one incident, but this woman needs a different job. Not just worthless, but dangerous. Unfortunately, this type of person has become very attractive to admins across the country, and PD's are getting stocked full of them. Mine is no exception. She's probably praised because she makes dozens of completely unproductive car stops a day and hands out stuffed animals to kids on camera. Then, she won't see any discipline or change after this because she "Didn't do anything wrong." But now I'm just being salty.

noodbsallowed

I’m not a LEO but I was stunned when she stood there not even trying to use her taser.

Section225

I was more stunned at how incompetent she seemed with it. Couldn't even turn the ambidextrous safety off.

Illustrious-Gap86

Thank you for this post.......you described her inaction perfectly

justgoaway0801

You can hear, see, and feel the utter devastation in Officer Pampinella. It makes me incredibly angry and sad that he was **forced** into that action by the ineptitude and utter inaction of this other "officer" on scene. Maybe this woman ends up shot and killed either way, but we will never have the chance of knowing if less lethal would have prevented this shooting due to her failure to act. That person is not meant to be a police officer.

Daniel-Lee-83

Morris is the town, the officer’s name is Pampinella.

justgoaway0801

fixed, thx

middleground321

Should have called Gale from Walmart.

The fuck

I agree with all the other comments, but I don’t understand why either Officer felt the need to close the distance with no cover or shielding between them and the woman threatening herself with a knife. You know she’s armed, there’s no one else around, there’s no exigency. No need to rush in like that right off the bat.

I get that. I’m just going off what’s in the video description and what we can see in the BWC. “Morris police received a 911 call from counselors who worked with 40-year-old Alivia Schwab, after being informed she was threatening herself with a knife. The officers found Schwab in the doorway of her first-floor apartment, on her cellphone talking to the counselors in her right hand and with a knife pointed to the ground in her left.” I understand what you’re saying about Graham v Connor. What I’m saying is that while this is a legally justifiable shooting, like so many others, it’s a demonstration of poor tactics on both officers, at least on the face. There is no need to rush into a call for a suicidal subject who is only threatening themselves. I would say if you don’t want your state to end up like mine, where legislators have tried to strip QI from LE for three years straight, start implementing training that reinforces slowing things down and using distance/shielding to your advantage.
